My godness,
I'm back with a new chapter. A longer one. I really wanted to try and write some more Skye/Simmons moments together but then I wanted to include Fury and Charlie and then, I ended with this. Hope you'll love it!
Then, my mom yelled at me, like really, because I still hadn't booked my flight for Paris and I shoud have done it for weeks already. My bad. I think I've been developing some kind of fear of flying since what happened with Maylaisia Airlines. That fear of crashing is petrifying.
I love you all my people. Thanks for reading, favoriting, reviewing. It means a lot!
And I'm still sorry for any mistakes. They're all mine. I'm french. One day, I'll go to some english-speaking country and I'll learn to speak and write it right. Till then, bear with me, peps!
Disclaimer : Nothing belongs to me. Except Charlie.

14 - To the SHIELD headquarters and beyond.
While sitting on the couch of the sort of living room, Skye was looking at some photos that she put on her computer a few days ago. They weren't all good. Some were blurred, others were off-centre but most of them had a very tiny and very smiling Charlie. With the team or simply with Skye, the toddler was happy, really happy. The kind of happiness that made you want to dance away forever.
Skye let out a shaky breath.
"Are you okay?" Simmons asked from behind.
Skye, who hadn't heard her coming, jumped with fright. "Jesus fucking christ, Jemma. You need to stop doing this ninja-walk-thing. Make some noise when you walk, will you?"
Her voice was a bit harsh, so unlike Skye but Jemma wouldn't hold it against her. Because she knew the past few days has been hard for Skye—she hadn't slept much. The black shadows under her eyes were one of the evidence, besides her constant irritation.
Jemma, trying to light up the atmosphere, held up her hands, mocking a surrending gesture and sat down in the nearest couch. "How are you doing?" she tried again.
"Fantastic! Never been better," Skye replied with a tone full of sarcasm as she closed her computer, putting it away. "I haven't slept for nearly four days but appart from that I'm wonderful."
Jemma didn't think she could feel even worse for Skye but she did. The girl in front of her merely looked miserable. "Skye—"
"This sucks so much, you know," Skye started, staring straight into Jemma's eyes. "Back there, at the orphanage, when some new kids arrived, sometimes I had to share my room—even my bed until they got their own bedrooms and I hated it. I really hated sharing my bed. Because at that time, it felt like it was all I got and I refused to share it," Jemma couldn't see the point of all this babbling until now. "Then Charlie came into my life with her adorable smile and her eyes full of hope. And she got used to sleep in my bed—mine. But I didn't mind because Charlie felt like home and I didn't care about sharing my bed or not, as long as she felt safe—Charlie was my home and now... and now..."
Glistening tears were dancing in Skye's eyes.
"You feel like you've lost your home," Jemma finished, grabbing Skye hand and gently squeezed it.
Skye nodded, uncapable to say anything. Seeing her friend in such a state made Jemma's heart break. She needed to do something. Anything.
Then something stupid, really stupid crossed her mind.
"We're getting her back," Jemma told Skye with a lot of confidence, too much confidence for someone like Jemma. Because it was the kind of confidence which generally got you straight into trouble. And Jemma never got into trouble.
"Jemma, you know I like your optimism, but we don't know when Charlie is coming back if she ever comes back, of course."
Simmons let out a heavy sight, looking at Skye. This girl never understood anything. "I'm telling you, Skye that we are getting her back...now."
Skye frowned.
Jemma raised an eyebrow.
Skye's jaw dropped.
Jemma smiled.
Jemma took one of the car keys. Skye could just not believe what was about to happen.
"What did you tell Coulson?" Jemma asked as Skye got into the SUV.
"I told him I ran out of girls' stuff, you know, the kind of stuff that made any man uncomfortable," Skye explained with a kinky attitude. "And I added that some shopping time with you could help me to keep my mind busy. So, we won't be back till tonight. I'm so good at lying, I scare myself sometimes."
Jemma agreed. If someone had some skills at lying between the two of them, it was Skye because Jemma could not just lie. She needed to think about everything, about every single thing that could go wrong, about every possibilyty that could make the lie even more real. It would have taken Jemma one good hour to create a credible lie whereas Skye managed to do it in five minutes.
"Great! Buckle up. You're ready?" Jemma asked and Skye nodded. "But we can't just go there like that. I mean, I worked there, sure, but we can't just go there, asking to get Charlie back—"
"Jemma, shut up and drive," Skye cut her off and Jemma looked at her, surprised. "Please," she added with a smile, looking more like a grimace.
"I didn't know you were into Rihanna's song," Jemma pointed out. Shut up and drive was one of the singer's song.
"I didn't know you knew this song either," Skye said back, smiling a bit. "I knew you liked bad girls."
And Jemma rolled her eyes and then started the car, en-route to SHIELD principal headquarters.
Getting there wasn't much a problem. After two long hours, they were finally in front of the very impressive SHIELD building. However, getting into the building was going to be a problem—especially for Skye.
Jemma, making sure her Agent of SHIELD card was well-pinned on her white blouse, quickly made her way into the main entrance, closely following by Skye.
But then, the alarms went off. Jemma froze and Skye cursed under her breath. Fucking bracelet. She really needed to have Coulson take this off.
"You can come in," one of the security guards, who looked like he has never smiled once in his life, said to Jemma. "You," pointing at Skye. "You stay with me until she's done."
Skye was outraged. Who the hell did he think he was? "I need to see Director Fury. I'm not here for some funny business. This is serious."
"Not my problem," He replied. "You stay here."
Skye felt like punching him. "Listen, you son of a b—"
"Wooh wooh wooh," Jemma placed herself between the two, trying to be a sort of wall—wall that both could easily break, Jemma was sure of that. "Let's just be civilized people, shall we?" Jemma turned to Skye. "Wait for me, I'll talk to Fury, I'm sure he will let you in then."
Jemma waited for Skye to agree which took at least five minutes since the hacktivist was too busy to win the staring contest that her and the security guard had started. Then she turned back to the security guard and Jemma finally realized that he was quite big. Nothing daunted, she told him with a serious tone. "And you, try to not piss her off. She hit the Calvary, and I'm sure she won't hesitate to hit a simple security guard like you."
And then, Jemma ran off to the nearest elevator.
Fury's office was situated in one of the hightest floors of the building.
Jemma politely smiled at any agent passing by and then, walked straight to the secretary office where—Janet—Jemma read it on the weird lady's card, stared at her blankly. Jemma had almost forgotten that people never smiled here. "Hello!"
"Hello," The secretary answered, out of mere politeness. "How can I help you?"
Jemma didn't lose her smile though. That was one of the best qualities. She was always smiling. Fitz thought it was scary. "I'm Agent Jemma Simmons. I'm here to see Director Fury. It's quite important. It's about the little girl he brought here."
"Oh thanks lord, you're here to take that kid back?" Janet asked with a relief expression on her face. Anybody could tell she wasn't really fond of Charlie. She must be some kind of awful women who couldn't just stand being around any children. Because everybody loved Charlie. They simply couldn't not love her. "This kid could drive anybody crazy. I hope you're taking her back. We don't do baby-sitting. I don't do baby-sitting," Janet kept talking but Jemma wasn't really interested. She clearly didn't like Janet, even if she's only known the woman for five minutes. "You can go ahead, I'll inform Director Fury you're coming."
Jemma didn't even thank her and made her way to Fury's office.
The door flew open and Jemma was welcome by two tiny arms holding onto the legs very tightly.
"Jemmaaaa," Charlie screamed, smiling as Jemma picked her up and put a huge peck on her cheek.
"Oh my godness, I missed you so much," The biochemist told her, kissing her on the cheek over and over. "Did you miss me?"
Charlie eagerly nodded and hugged her Jemma with all the strength a four-year-old girl got and then hid her face into her neck. Jemma smiled, happy to have Charlie in her arms and then, turned her gaze to her boss. "Hello, Director Fury."
"Hello Agent Simmons," Fury said with such a gentle tone, trying not to scare off the Agent. "Have a seat, please."
And Jemma sat in front of him.
She softly smiled at him, because she really admired him and was certainly scared of him. She didn't let go of Charlie though who didn't mind to be hold. She comfortably sat on Jemma's laps, putting her thumb in her mouth. "I'm sorry to bother you, sir, but we really needed to talk with you about Charlie—"
"Who is "we"?"
Jemma had almost forgotten that Skye was still waiting for her in the hall, unless she had yielded to temptation to hit the security guard and she was now in some kind of SHIELD cell.
"I came with Skye, sir. She's waiting in the hall, sir. She couldn't come in because of the bracelet, sir. I'm sure you know what kind of bracelet I'm refering to, sir, since it's been made by SHIELD, sir."
"One more sir, and I'll kick you out."
"Yes, s—Director Fury," Jemma quickly corrected, sinking even more in her chair.
Fury was actually well aware of what kind of bracelet Agent Simmons was talking about. He was also well aware of who Skye was and he was quite surprised to hear that she hadn't found how to take off the bracelet yet.
"Skye is here?" Charlie asked softly, looking up to see Jemma's eyes.
"Yes, she is. And she really wants to see you. She missed you a lot, you know. A lot more than you can imagine." Jemma explained, knowing the last conversation she had with Skye didn't go well. "Do you want to see her?"
"I dunno," Charlie said and then, freed herself from Jemma's arms. With her tiny legs, she waked around Fury's desk and then crawled onto his laps. The toddler was awkwardly standing up on Fury's laps while hugging him. Although Jemma looked asthonished by this action, she remained silent.
Fury gently patted Charlie's back, waiting for her to explain why she was so upset. "She comed," she whispered into his ears.
"She came," Fury corrected, whispering back. "And she did. I knew she was going to come. I'm surprised it took her that long to get here though. If she wanted you, she had to fight for you. So here she is, fighting the guards and all. She came for you. Aren't you happy?" Of course she was but then she held him even tighter. "Then, why are you upset?"
"I don't wanna leave you," she murmured. "You told me I gotta watch your back while you're working in your office."
And Jemma heard that and smiled. This kid was adorable.
Fury strocked her soft hair. "Don't worry about me, I'm a big guy and I still got Maria to watch my back, remember?"
Charlie nodded, pulling away to look at Fury. "Maria is kind with me. And with you too. She likes you. She don't—doesn't pretend like Janet."
"I know she doesn't, sweetheart," Fury admitted and then, glared at Jemma who just smiled. She won't say anything to anyone. She didn't want to lose her job. "She's like the kindest person ever, here, right?"
Charlie quickly nodded because it was true. Maria was the kindest. "Yep, 'cause Janet is so mean. She's not even funny!"
Fury smiled. A real smile. Because any agent working here could tell that Charlie had already made him go soft. "You're right. Let's stop gossiping about others, though, okay? So, shall we let Skye come up or not, Agent Charlie?"
This made the toddler go trough a series of giggling. She loved when he called her like this. He made her feel special.
"Yes, let her come up, Jack!"

I hope I'll get some more time to write from now on, but I'm not promising anything. Anyway, what did you guys think about this chapter? About the last episode? About Captain America 2? You can even tell me about your lives. I'll write you asap, I promise.
Love.
xoxo
