Vulcan was sleeping soundly as he could until something slammed on his chest.
"Melinda, let me rest." Vulcan groans as he kept his eyes closed. The next thing he heard was a very loud screech that was heard by the entire room. "Ow." Vulcan says opening his eyes to see Hanzo. "Yes?" He asks sitting up.
Hanzo puts a letter in his face.
Vulcan smiles and takes it from his talons and holds it with his hands and looks it over. "Thanks boy. You can go now."
Hanzo takes off and flies out the window as Vulcan started to get up.
"What is it?" Melinda asks yawning.
"Let's see…it's the schedule for classes." Vulcan says opening the letter and looking over the contents.
"And what do you have?" Melinda asks getting up and stretching.
"Let's see. Every core class. Then there's an ancient rune class. And that is first thing after breakfast." Vulcan says having gotten to his chest.
"Better get going. I'll see if I can find some free points for you…if you pay up." Melinda said smirking.
"Who knows Melinda? They may stop serving us beef stew if we don't start getting points." Rogers says now awake with most of the boys of Ravenclaw from Hanzo's screech.
"No! I will join and eat the last of it!" Melinda declares.
"Then you best help us." Roger says.
Vulcan smirks. "You hear him. Get moving you lazy lizard."
"I will survey the land." Melinda says.
Vulcan picks her up and holds her to an open window. "Get flying lazy lizard."
"Fire one!" She declares before zooming off.
Vulcan groans and rubs his head. "I had to get stuck with her."
"Ok. So we have our schedules. Do we know who we will be taking the classes with?" Roger asks.
"Not yet." A prefect says.
"Then let's hope for the best." Vulcan said stretching as everyone was eating until a few banners unfurled down the walls. "I will go check it out." Vulcan says getting up and goes to one of the banner and it changes, showing him the Ravenclaw schedule. "Hum, let's see." Vulcan says looking for Ancient Runes. "Ah. There you are and you're with Gryffindor.
Everyone starts to move toward the banners of their own and sees the schedules. "Well this is new. It's like we have three new houses." Cho said looking for her own classes.
"So what do you have first?" Vulcan asks.
"I got double charms with Hufflepuff." Cho says.
"I see." Vulcan said looking to his own.
"And you?" Cho asks looking to him.
"Ancient Runes with Gryffindor." Vulcan says.
"Oh. Good luck." Cho said trying to see his schedule.
"After that, double potions with Mahoutokoro." Vulcan continues looking to the banner.
"Think you can do all this?" Cho asks smiling.
"Easy, after that, lunch, then a four hour break…I think I will explore one of the temples we saw walking in." Vulcan says thinking
"Well don't get lost. We might need you." Roger informs.
"Don't worry about me." Vulcan says before heading out before checking the banners on last time to see he had Care of Magical Creatures at the end with Gryffindor.
Vulcan walked, following the signs on the walls. Leading him to a large classroom that was half full and recognized Hermione there. "Hey. See you are here too." Vulcan says.
Hermione looks over and smiles. "Hi there. Guess you are interested too."
"Never know when learning this will come in handy." Vulcan says not recognizing many Runes on the blackboards.
"Well it could help with the island. I never expected this place to be real." Hermione said shrugging.
"With such a legendary island, I am wondering how they got permission to have school." Vulcan question before two adults walked in. One of them wearing a full face silver mask and hooded robes.
"Everyone take your seats. For those who is their first time here. I am professor Babbling. I will be in charge of this class. If you are from Hogwarts, you may recognize me." The female professor says.
"I think I would remember someone named Babbling." Vulcan said to himself.
"And I am professor Haruka. I will be acting as assistant or acting professor in case professor Babbling doesn't make it." Haruka introduces in a male voice and Vulcan looked at them weirdly as he heard it in both english and Japanese at the same time.
"So…welcome to Ancient Runes class…how many runes have you seen in your life?" Babbling asks flatly at the end. Some were about to answer when Babbling continued. "Well forget it. We are starting anew. You see these on the blackboards? Well they are Atlantian. That will be one of your main parts of your curriculum this year."
"Well that explains a lot." Vulcan said trying to copy the runes.
"Now, as all of you should have noticed, Haruka is from Mahoutokoro and only speaks japanese. The island has a translation charm placed on it so the language barrier wouldn't be a issue . Now professor Haruka, would you like to begin?" Babbling asks.
Haruka nods as he picks up a book. "We will be starting with the basic alphabet."
Vulcan groans as he rubs his head. "So bored."
"I am back." Melinda says flying around him as she carried a makeshift bag of cloth.
"What did you find?" Vulcan asks.
"Some odds and ends I can't make sense of." Melinda says.
"Take them to my trunk in the house. I will examine them later." Vulcan instructs.
Melinda gives a mock salute and flies off carrying the bag.
"Please tell me Melinda didn't raid the kitchen." A voice says behind him.
"No…at least I hope not." He said turning around and looks to see Luna behind him. "Luna, been exploring yet?"
"Not yet. So I will wager you are heading for potion from the signs you are following." Luna says.
"Yes I am. Where are you headed?" Vulcan asks.
"Transfiguration class." Luna said smiling.
"I see. By any chance, do you have Ancient Runes on your schedule?" Vulcan asks.
Luna shakes her head. "Not really. Why me?"
"Well they are starting to teach us the Atlantean runes." Vulcan says.
"Wish I had that. Might be fun to see all the strange new things like the backstabbers." Luna said smiling.
"Still going to try and find the creatures your father writes about?" Vulcan asks smirking.
"Very much so." Luna said chuckling.
"Well Atlantis is an ideal place to search. Also, if you come across Haruka, don't try and remove his mask or ask to show you what is under it." Vulcan says.
"I'll try." Luna said smiling as she walks away.
"Trust me, you don't want to know." Vulcan calls before continue walking.
Vulcan took his seat as he readied his books, ingredients, caudron, scales, and his utensils. Soon the doors opened and in came Snape with one male wizard wearing a viking like Durmstrang red uniform, a female witch wearing Mahoutokoro silver teaching robes, and one male goblin wearing light blue silk robes.
"Certainly new." He said to himself.
"Please remain standing. We will be assigning partners for this class." The female says.
Vulcan sighs as he stands up and keeps setting his desk.
The four professor made their way to the front of the class before turning to face the students. "Professor Snape, why don't you start off the introductions." The goblin asks climbing up a stool.
"Yes. I am professor Snape. As you can see, this will be not be a regular potions class that is Hogwarts students are used to. Us four professors will be helping along as these are dangerous potions and you should fear them. Now we will split you up into groups of two. I will not have messing around, pranks, lateness, or using the potions we make for your own needs unless we say so. You do, I will take away points." Snape said frowning to them all.
"I am professor Fujimura Yoi. I am the potion professor of Mahoutokoro. I will not tolerate intentional sabotage of another student. If you try it, you will receive detention and points taken off." The witch says sternly.
"I am professor Dneks. On top of that, redmiel potion lessons will also be given and I will tell you, they are boring to death. So no pressure." The goblin said cheerfully.
"And I am professor Thorhall Refsson. I will abide no funny business either. You are here to learn. Not waste all our times." Refsson says sounding the least likely to cut any slack and when compared to Snape, that was an impressive feat.
'I fear a lot now.' Vulcan thinks sweating a little.
"Now then." Professor Yoi says before calling the students names, assigning partners.
Vulcan sits down on his seat as he heard his name. "Vulcan Watanabe and Kotoro Gorou." Yoi says catching Vulcan by surprise.
'I didn't think Kotoro was here.' Vulcan says as a wizard in a blue robe and black under robes walk over to him.
Vulcan looks over to man sitting next to him who seems to be very happy. "Hello Vulcan." He said cheerfully.
"Hello Kotoro." Vulcan greets.
"Ready to bake potions?" Kotoro asks cheerfully.
"Brew." Vulcan corrects.
"Whatever." Kotoro said waving him off.
"Alright, now that everyone has a partner, we are giving you your first assignment. You are having a closed book test. You must brew Antidote to Uncommon Poisons. That should wake you up from your summer vacation." Snape says.
Kotoro was already heating up the pot by the time Vulcan looked over. "Okay then." He said putting the book away and grabs a few ingredients. "Kotoro, no second guessing me or going against my instructions." Vulcan says pointing to him as he counted out the fire seeds.
"Yeah, sure, whatever." Kotoro said snickering as he looks at the flames.
'Five hundred and fifty degrees, no higher no lower.' Vulcan writes on a parchment for him as he got out a Graphorn's horn.
Kotoro chuckles as he grabs the horn and drops it into the pot only for it to hover in place and a mad looking Vulcan levitating it out of the caudron and into a bowl and started grinding it up into powder.
"And no throwing stuff in willy nilly." Vulcan adds.
Kotoro just smiles as he grabs the fire seeds that were counted out and throws them in.
"At last, brewing properly." Vulcan says while writing so no one could copy. 'Go get a bucket of water and start on the Chizpurfle carapaces. Grinding this to powder will take a bit.'
Kotoro smiles. "Next bit."
Vulcan tapped the paper as he kept grinding.
After nearly half an hour, the two had finished their potion, a royal purple color rather than the other shades of purple those who had managed to remember how to brew the potion made.
"Can we drink it?" Kotoro asks peering in.
"That is our grade." Vulcan reminds holding the ladle.
Kotoro whimpers as he shrinks down.
Soon all four professors started making their rounds, examining the potions and giving them grades.
Vulcan waited for a professor and smacks Kotoro on the head with the ladle as he tried to reach for the pot.
As each professor finished, they had wrote down the grade on the parchments they are holding as they go back up to their desks up front. "Clean up appropriately and collect your things and your grade." Yoi said before everyone started to dump and clean the pots as Vulcan grabs a flask bottle and starts to pour the pot's content into it.
"Before you leave, know this." Professor Snape started before Refsson pulled out a piece of paper from under his metal helmet and hands it to Snape. Snape cleared his throat before unfolding the parchment and reads. "House points awarded per passing grade you have received. For a O you earn forty points, E, thirty, and A, twenty."
Vulcan raises an eyebrow as he grabs the bottle and packs it away and carries the Cauldron and his bag..
"Return in ten minutes for the second half of your potions class." Refsson instructs.
'Let's see.' Vulcan thinks taking a look at his grade and Kotoro's grade. 'O, O, O, and an E. That is one hundred and fifty points. ' Vulcan thinks walking out.
"Oh. I'm glad I got paired up with you." Kotoro said counting his grade.
"I can retrieve the ladle if need be." Vulcan says getting out of the classroom and taking a seat on a bench as many students did not want to try and explore with only ten minutes to and risk getting lost and not making it back.
"No need!" Kotoro said holding his hands up in surrender.
"And that is the properties of the Griffon Claw for potions." Dneks finished lecturing.
Some of the class were nearly keeping their eyes open as Vulcan was prepared to plug his ears for something bad.
"That is the end of class for today. Off with you." Snape says.
Almost everyone immediately packed up and started to leave at that as Vulcan calmly packed up as he waits for everyone to leave, before pulling out a griffon claw and looks it over. 'Look into getting more.' Vulcan thinks before packing it back up.
As Vulcan exited the classroom, something shot forward him and wrapped about him.
"Oh Melinda." Vulcan said looking down at her.
Melinda smiles as she hugged him, nearly starting to choke him.
"Melinda." Vulcan chokes trying to pull her off.
"I'm back." Melinda says letting him pull her off.
"Yes. Now let's go exploring." Vulcan says.
"Yippie!" Melinda cheers as she was carried away.
"Melinda, please stop making faces at the statues." Vulcan says looking around the huge ruin.
Melinda playfully glares at him. "What can they do? Hit me? Now if you'll excuse me." She said before going back to making faces.
Vulcan keeps looking around as the light shining in reflected off something and hits him in the eyes.
"Wear sunglasses." Melinda advises snickering.
"Melina, fly up there and see what is reflecting the light on the statue." Vulcan instructs.
Melinda sighs and limps herself as she flies over to the statue and looks around it. "Blinding, it is." She mocks as she tries to feel around the statue. Once reaching the top, she found a mirror on the top. A very shiny and clean mirror as the centerpiece of the statue's headdress.
"Find anything?" Vulcan asks trying to see past the shining light.
"A mirror…is my tail really that big?!" Melina calls.
Vulcan taps his foot as he crosses his arms.
"My nose isn't that big, is it?" Melina asks.
Vulcan shakes his head as he sighs. "Tell me details on the mirror." Vulcan instructs.
"Looks old. Shiny too." Melinda said looking to herself as she picks her teeth.
"Anything else, oh fountain of wisdom?" Vulcan calls.
"Jewels." Melinda said flying to him as she kept picking her teeth.
"Ok, back down here." Vulcan says.
"Wait. There is something here…three things." Melinda calls.
Vulcan hums as she looks over something. "And that is?"
"Some sort of rune is on the front ends of the mirror. There is also a key and an amulet." Melinda says,
Vulcan smiles. "Seems they are connecting treasures."
"Yeah. Should I take them?" Melinda asks.
"Yeah. Pack it all up and we can figure it out back in the dorm." Vulcan said looking around for any other clues.
"Can't with the mirror secured to the statue." Melinda calls.
"Let think of one spell to do it delicately." He said taking out his wand and looking up to her before stopping. "On second thought, grab the key and amulet. Only the mirror is probably important." Vulcan calls.
Melinda looks confused before grabbing them and flies down to him and holds them up to him. "So what do we do with the mirror?"
"It's not going anywhere and there is something about it. I can feel it." Vulcan says.
Melinda hums as she looks back to the mirror. "So…puzzle?"
"Yeah, most likely." Vulcan says before he starts looking through the temple with her more thoroughly, only to stop to eat lunch before leaving on the third hour to head to his care for magical creatures class.
"So care for magical creatures." Melinda says not happy.
"Aw. Are you sad that you are not included in the list of animals to be cared for you lazy dragon?" Vulcan asks smirking.
"No, they are boring." Melinda complains as more gryffindors arrive, most not looking like they got a good night sleep.
"Rough night?" Vulcan asks spotting Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
"What do you think?" They all ask cracking their backs.
"Incentive for us to succeed; I would think." Vulcan says as a woman with long black hair and raven like wings wearing witch like robes walk out of one of the huts and checks the cages.
"What…who…?" Ron asks confused.
"Oh, that is professor Chun Tupo. She is a Tengu." Vulcan explains.
"A tengu?" Harry asks now also confused.
"She is a yokai. I don't have time to explain it in detail before the class." Vulcan says.
"Does this mean we are going to the library after this?" Ron asks groaning as Hagrid emerges from one of the huts with a centaur wearing a blue suit top and stylish hat.
"Maybe…or maybe to the infirmary." Vulcan said chuckling.
"We ready professor Chun?" Hagrid asks.
"Yes we are. The creatures are also ready just in case." Chun said coming back from the creature cages.
Melinda head rose suddenly. "I sense cuteness."
"Oh crap." Vulcan said to himself.
"Gather around all of you. Today, you are in for a special treat. We have a creature all the way from Japan." Hagrid calls trying to get them all to move in closer.
Vulcan rubs his forehead as he tries to follow. "I have a bad feeling about this."
"Have any of you heard of the sunekosuri?" The centaur asks.
"YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Melinda squealed and makes everyone cover their ears and lands on the ground waiting excitedly.
"Ok, let them out." Chun instructs.
Both the centaur and Hagrid goes to a cage before they lift up the lid and steps to the side before they hear rumbling and then…
"Come to me!" Melinda yells excited as the cage cover was suddenly filled with mammal like animals that runs out and towards and covers her up as they run over her. "A river! A river! It's a river! I'm dying of cuteness!" Melinda screams as she hugs a few before the creatures spread out to the students.
"The Sunekosuri are basically harmless. The worse they can do is make you trip." Chun informs.
They hear a few screams as some fell over and Vulcan plants his feet as he pinches the bridge of his eyes. "Why? Why one of the most harmless and cutest yokai of Japan?" He asks himself before bending down to look at them so they didn't throw him off balance and cause him to fall.
The many creatures running through the area seem to look up at the many people staring down at them and even a few picking them up. "Come on. Give them a kiss." Melinda says holding one up to him.
The Sunekosuri licks their noses as many realized they were all wearing a small black and white striped kimono top.
"Aw. They are cute." Hermione coos as she tickles the stomach of one.
"Sunekosuri. So these are the ones that caused the children to be marked as clumsy." Luna said sitting down.
"Ah. Someone has come across them in their studies, but no. Some were caused by them, but mostly it's the child." Chan says as the Sunekosuri settled down and were not running around anymore, enjoying being out of the crate.
"Well? Let's continue with today's lesson." Vulcan says holding up the Monster Book of Monsters and it growls and scares away some of the Sunekosuri around him.
"Don't scare them like that!" Melinda scolds flying up to him and holding a few protectively.
"You won't find them in there. Everyone, please gather around. We are handing out new books for you. One's that you wouldn't get at your bookstores." Hagrid says as the centaur opens another crate filled with many hard back books with Japanese kanjis on them.
"Just wanted to do this." Vulcan says putting his book on the ground as the Sunekosuri gather around it as it seems to growl at them.
The book kept growling before the Sunekosuri formed a line and started marching while doing a cute little chant and soon the book followed, bringing up the rear.
"Now that's a good way to return a book." Vulcan said getting up and getting his new book.
"Fear the power of the cuteness." Melinda says joining the line.
"I am." Luna says letting her book join the line.
"Professor Sletotus, would you like to start us off?" Chan asks.
"Once you receive your new books, turn to page eighty-seven in them. Do not worry. They have a translation spell on them so you will be able to read them." Sletotus informs, starting to hand the books out.
The class started with that and before any of them realized it, class was over. "And that is the end of your lesson. Now your homework will be an ongoing assignment all year. Each of you will take one of the Sunekosuri with you and care for them all year. Your grade will be determined by periodic check-ups on them." Sletotus informs.
Vulcan goes wide-eyes before plugging his ears. "I'll take ten!" Melinda yells behind him.
"Only one. So everyone may have one." Sletotus instructs.
"Aw!" Melinda whines dropping the ones she had.
"You must choose one Melinda." Vulcan says.
Melinda quickly looks around for one to take, but they were too cute for her choose and she screams in despair. "I can't choose!"
"Close your eyes and let one choose you." Vulcan instructs.
Melinda covers her eyes with a hand and then reaches out with another.
"How long will this take?" Luna asks, one of the Sunekosuri on her head.
"Usually one second." Vulcan said as one of them crawls up Melinda's arm and crawls onto her head.
"Got it." Melinda calls.
Vulcan rolls his eyes as one crawls onto his leg. "Behave." He says pointing at it.
"With that, class is over. I would remind you all that dinner starts soon. Just take them with you to the feast." Chan instructs.
Vulcan hangs his head as he stands up and takes the one Sunekosuri on his leg and carries it. "Don't bother me and we won't have a problem."
"Come on ball of fluff. Let's ride on him." Melinda says before setting her's on Vulcan before shrinking down to her normal size.
"I'm not feeding both of you." Vulcan says rolling his eyes.
"Beef stew is going to be served. Move it!" Melinda orders.
Vulcan groans as he rubs his head and walks away as he grabs his book from the marching line who then complains and growls to him. "Shut up. Not in the mood."
"So what do they eat?" Ron asks as Hermione reads their section in the book.
"I'm looking and…basically we can feed them at the feasts." Hermione says after pausing.
"Good enough for me." Ron says happy he wouldn't have to spend money to raise it.
"Can we just get going?" Vulcan asks walking away.
