Guns don't kill people...
Days passed before it was soon Unity Day and the delinquents had gathered around the screen which showed Jaha giving a speech stressing the importance of Unity Day and what it symbolized.
Miller was staring at the screen with irritation and voicing his ill opinion on the subject. Euphemia was beside him rolling her eyes at his less than enthusiastic comments and she even cracked a smile when Raven told him to shut up.
"Whoo, yeah!" came Jasper's zealous screams as he emerged from the still tent. "Monty strikes again!" he declared. "Hey! Call this batch Unity Juice. Who's thirsty?" The group eagerly gathered and held out there cups to get a taste of Monty's new creation even the guards in front of the gate joined the crowd.
Octavia, seeing her opportunity, slunk behind the crowd towards the gate only to get stopped by a hand on her arm. "Be careful," Euphemia warned the girl despite not even sparing the girl a second glance.
A smile formed on the brunette's face. "Always am," she replied.
Euphemia gave a roll of her eyes and grinned despite herself as the girl moved past her. Jasper soon made his rounds before coming to her. "For my favorite redhead!" he announced as he handed her a large cup of alcohol.
She sent him a wink before taking a sip. By the time night had fell she was feeling pretty good and well into her third cup of Monty's juice paired with playing a few drinking games with the others in the camp.
A snort of laughter erupted from her as she nearly tripped over a tree root and stumbled into someone. "Sorry, sorry," she apologized with a grin on her face not bothering to even look at the person.
"You look like you're having a good time," Bellamy commented with amusement as he steadied the swaying girl.
"Bell!" she greeted as she gazed up at the familiar boy. "I'm having a great time!" she informed the boy. "I was playing a game over there with the others and I totally kicked their asses."
A smile formed on the boy's face as he looked into the girl's glazed over eyes, but his stare turned to the approaching Clarke. "Hey, the comms are still dead. They cut out during the pageant," she informed the pair not taking notice of the redhead who was trying desperately to stop herself from swaying or the sly grin the boy had on his face as he tried to help her.
"Best Unity Day ever." Bellamy remarked.
"Do you really think now is a good time to be having a party?" Clarke asked. "I mean, the Grounder is out there."
"Grounders. By now, he's made it home," Bellamy corrected. "He's probably putting together a lynch mob. Relax, I got security covered. Why don't you go get a drink? You look like you could use one."
"Yeah, Clarke!" The redhead perked up at the mention of drinks. "Let's go!"
Clarke looked at the girl with surprise finally taking note of the glazed look and goofy smile. "What's wrong with her?" she questioned with an amused expression.
The smile never left Bellamy's face as he told the blonde: "She's drunk."
"Let's go!" The redhead grabbed Clarke's hand before dragging her off yelling. "Shots! Shots! Shots!" She turned to Clarke who was laughing along with her. "You gotta catch up, Clarke! I'm already three deep!"
At some point, Euphemia had wandered off from Clarke leaving her at a table with two of the other delinquents who were playing table top drinking game that Clarke was getting very into. Euphemia had begun to drink water at the insistence of Monty who witnessed her nearly topple over a couple of tents.
"Probably a good idea," she had told him as she took a long gulp of water.
"Can't hang?" Bellamy questioned when he saw her standing off to the side sipping on the water.
"I can so hang," she argued before looking off to the side with embarrassment. "I am, however, a sloppy drunk and almost took down an entire row of tents."
Bellamy laughed as the girl's cheeks flushed red. "Here," he offered the girl an apple. "Eat something."
"Hey! I need to talk to you two," Clarke said as she came up behind the pair.
"Having fun, yet, Princess?" Bellamy asked with an entertained look on his face.
There was no trace of humor on Clarke's face which managed to sober Euphemia up quite a bit. "I'm serious," she stated.
"You always are, so talk," Bellamy said.
"Finn's set up a meeting with the Grounders," Clarke explained and Euphemia nearly spit out the piece of apple she had just taken a bite of.
"He what?" she enquired incredulously.
Clarke nodded affirming that the redhead had not heard her wrong. "I'm leaving to go talk to them."
"Because you figure that impaling people on spears is code for 'let's be friends'?" Bellamy questioned sarcastically. "Have you lost your goddamn mind?"
"Clarke," Euphemia spoke. "It's dangerous."
An unsure frown crossed her face. "I think it might be worth a shot," she acknowledged. "I mean we do have to live with these people."
"They'll probably gut you and string you up as a warning," Bellamy asserted.
"That's why I'm here," Clarke addressed. "I need you two to follow us, be our back up."
Bellamy glanced over at Euphemia who looked contemplative. "Does Finn know about this?" he asked.
"Finn doesn't need to know," Clarke stated. "And … bring guns."
As she walked away, Euphemia gazed up at Bellamy in between bites of the apple he had given her. "Y'know," she started. "When I said that whole thing about asking questions and communicating with the Grounders I didn't mean to do it in the middle of the night while the rest of our camp is drunk on Unity Day."
Bellamy gave the girl an exasperated look. "I know," he commented. "Let's go, we need to find Jasper." He ignored the questioning look the girl gave him and how she mouthed 'Jasper' with a baffled expression.
They found the boy in the ammunition tent with Raven. "Jasper, you're coming with us," Bellamy ordered.
"I am?" he asked.
"He is?" Euphemia questioned.
Bellamy pushed a gun into Jasper's hands. "You handled yourself well in the cave with the Grounder," said Bellamy before he went to grab some of the ammo from the table in front of Raven.
"I mean, I hit him in the head…" Jasper mumbled.
"If you plan on shooting anything you better think twice I haven't checked those yet," Raven warned.
"Give me some bullets that work," Bellamy demanded and Euphemia could tell by the look on Raven's face that she wasn't going to make this easy for them.
"What do you need them for?" she questioned.
Bellamy stared at the girl for a moment. "Your boyfriend's being an idiot," he stated.
Raven didn't anything as she grabbed a few clips and handed them to Bellamy. "I'm coming with you," she asserted.
"We should get Clarke," Jasper insisted and only realized his mistake too late when Euphemia gave him a look that clearly said 'shut up, you idiot'.
Raven pursed her lips. "Clarke's with Finn, isn't she?" she enquired.
Bellamy rolled his eyes at the boy's obliviousness as he made his way out of the tent and Euphemia pushed the boy ahead of her before he could do anymore damage. "Let's go, bigmouth," she ordered ignoring the boy's apologies.
The sun had begun to rise by the time they made it to the point where Clarke was supposed to be meeting with the Grounders' leader. The four of them crept through the trees at the bank beneath the bridge where they could see three figures on the bridge.
"What's Octavia doing here?" Jasper questioned when he caught sight of the brunette. Lincoln was running from the other side where he met Octavia in the middle with a tight hug. "Oh," muttered Jasper with hurt and disappointment.
Euphemia rubbed his back knowing of his affections for the pretty brunette. "I guess we know how he got away," Raven mused but the smirk on her face fell when she saw Finn take hold of Clarke's hand.
There was an unidentifiable approaching sound and Bellamy held the scope to his eye zeroing in on Lincoln who stood close to his sister. "Enough," Euphemia hissed at him knowing his intentions. "This is not the time nor the place." Bellamy pulled back from his gun with a distasteful look on his face knowing that the redhead was right.
"Look," Raven pointed out.
Euphemia's brows furrowed together as the Grounders approached riding on top of animals. "Are those … horses?" she questioned.
Raven had an amazed smile on her face. "Yeah," she breathed out.
The Grounder leader was as daunting as Euphemia thought they would be; a woman with high cheekbones and dark makeup wearing leather and fur while holding her head high as though she was royalty.
They watched as she dismounted her horse and began to stalk towards Clarke who had broken away from Octavia, Finn, and Lincoln. The two started their discussion, whatever being said was lost to Euphemia who was out of earshot and couldn't read lips, however, she could tell from the body language that the conversation was not going as Clarke had hoped.
"Grounder Princess looks pissed," Raven commented as she looked through her scope.
Bellamy snorted. "Our Princess has that effect."
"Oh, no," Jasper muttered. "No, this is bad."
His three companions turned to him with confusion. "What the hell are you talking about?" Bellamy questioned.
Jasper gazed through his scope once more. "There's Grounders in the trees," he notified.
At that the others quickly looked through their scopes trying to find the Grounders that Jasper was talking about.
"Are you sure?" Raven questioned when she didn't see anything.
Euphemia glanced around not seeing any signs of movement in the tree line. "I don't see anything," she said.
"Me neither," Bellamy stated.
"They're gonna shoot! Clarke, run!" Jasper emerged from their hiding spot opening fire on the Grounders he saw in the trees and then chaos broke out. Euphemia raised her gun aiming at the Grounders who stood guard for their leader before they could attack.
Jasper managed to take out the Grounders in the trees while the others provided enough cover for their allies on the bridge to get away. "Go, go!" Raven called out as they ran out of bullets.
Euphemia pulled Bellamy along with her as they retreated to the cover of the trees. At some point in their withdrawal they met up with Clarke, Finn, and Octavia, but they all kept running until they reached their camp stopping just outside the gate.
"You got something to say?" Bellamy asked Finn as he caught his breath.
"Yeah!" Finn exclaimed. "I told you no guns!"
Clarke jumped to Bellamy's defense. "I told you we couldn't trust the Grounders! I was right!"
"Why didn't you tell me what you were up to?" Raven interrupted.
Finn turned to her. "I tried, but you were too busy making bullets for your gun!" he maintained.
"You're lucky she brought that!" Bellamy argued. "They came there to kill you, Finn."
"You don't know that! Jasper fired the first shot!" Finn disagreed.
Euphemia was growing tired of the arguing. "That's enough," she commanded and everyone fell quiet for a few seconds.
It was Octavia who broke the silence as she glanced over at Jasper. "You ruined everything," she stated before heading into camp.
"I saved you!" Jasper shouted before scoffing. "You're welcome." He, too, disappeared behind the gates.
"Well, if we weren't at war already, we sure as hell are now," Finn asserted and he earned looks of exasperation from Clarke and Bellamy. "You didn't have to trust the Grounders. You just had to trust me." He and Raven walked passed the three leaders who watched them go.
"Like I said, best Unity Day ever," Bellamy repeated.
Euphemia sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "That could've went better," she admitted. An explosion in the distance caught their attention. "What the hell was that?" she questioned.
Bellamy pointed to the sky where a bright light was streaking across it. "The Exodus ship?" he asked. "Your mom's early."
Clarke stared up at the sky with a smile on her face, but it quickly deteriorated. "Wait," she said. "Too fast. No parachute? Something's wrong."
The ship landed in a fiery explosion and that's when Clarke's face crumpled. Euphemia caught her before she could collapse on the ground and she wrapped her arms around the blonde who was trying hard to keep her composure. "Clarke," she muttered to the girl but received no response. "It's okay, Clarke." She held the girl as they stared at the mass of fire in the distance and it wasn't long before the girl broke down in tears. Humming filled the air accompanied by muffled cries as Euphemia gripped the girl tightly.
Guess who will FINALLY be making his reappearance next chapter! It's been so long~ Get hyped guys :)
