I wrote this chapter while on vacation at my family's camp...it was awesome. Read and review, and hope you enjoy.
It had been a few days since Sugar had reached Angel Island and, as suggested, she'd been staying there with the guardian and his family.
"Shugar!" Fist called as he ran to the shrine, a smile on his face. He'd been enjoying all the time they'd been spending together, she'd been playing quite a bit with him.
"...Morning." Sugar yawned, sitting up in her place at the top of the shrine.
"Good mowning!" The younger hybrid smiled. "Hungwee?" He asked, tilting his head slightly.
"Not just yet." The older hybrid responded, rubbing her eyes and brushing her ears back. She gave another yawn before looking around. "Where are Miss Amy and Mr. Knuckles?" She questioned.
"Gathewing food." The pink puncher answered.
"You have all been up a while, right?" The boy merely nodded, walking up the steps and sitting beside his friend.
"Hyb." The yellow and cream flier looked down the stairs to find a certain streaked hedgehog staring up at her.
"Mach?" It was his turn to nod.
"You know that you can't just stay out here Hyb...whatever your problem is, running away from it isn't going to help any." Mach pointed out, beginning to walk up the steps.
"I am trying to sort out something rather complicated Mach." The brown eyed girl explained.
"The fact that you've fallen for K'aak?" The question caused the eyes of both hybrids to widen.
"Is it troo Shugar?" The green eyed boy asked immediately, excitement replacing shock.
"H-how do you..." Sugar whispered, now trembling.
"I figured it out a while back...I thought you'd figure it out sooner than you did, it was pretty obvious." The rider explained, finishing his stair climb before giving a sigh and running his hand through his quills. "It's about time you came back and faced him, don't you think?"
"But...but it is K'aak! He is...this was not supposed to happen this way!" The yellow and cream flier exclaimed, standing quickly. She had her fists balled and was still trembling.
"Yes, yes...he's your only friend beyond Fist and I, I know. Still...I don't see why that's such a big problem." The red eyed boy stated, merely looking at his friend as her trembling worsened and she began to bite her bottom lip.
"You do not see...why it is such a big problem..." She repeated, suddenly glaring at him. "Like you would understand with your many friends! I cannot risk this, I cannot risk losing him!" The rabbit hybrid yelled, only for the hedgehog to smirk again.
"You say that like you're certain you'll lose him."
"I am! These stupid feelings...why would he want to be around me when I cannot be what he wants?" The older hybrid looked insecure as she finished the sentence, looking down with tears in her eyes...she couldn't see her older friend's smirk widen.
"That's exactly what he wants Sugar." Her head snapped up, eyes wide again. The brown eyed girl knew that the red eyed boy wouldn't lie to her; her 'brother' wouldn't lie to her...but there was no way he was serious.
"W...what?" She squeaked.
"Honestly, do you think he'd be willing to give up his armour for just a friend? He said time and again how important it was to him...but he was willing to give it up in a heartbeat if it meant you were safe, no one would do that for a simple friend." Mach said, his smirk one of seemingly all-knowing.
"Not even yoo for Branden?" Fist probed; bringing the attention of his friends back to him...they'd forgotten that he was there.
"Not even me for Brandon." His oldest friend replied.
"What about bringing Brandon home, revealing yourself as the leader of the Chaos Wreckers?"
"Keeping that hidden didn't mean nearly as much to me as that armour does to K'aak." Was the response, the responder turning. "Let's go home, shall we? I believe you have a hedgehog to confess to." He turned back with a wide smile, similar to his father, and a wink.
"...Yes, I believe you may be right." Sugar agreed, kneeling down and hugging her young friend. "I will be back, I promise. Say goodbye to you parents for me and thank you as well." She added.
"Oonlee if yoo bring K'aak next tiim." The pink puncher stated, causing both of his friends to smile.
"It is a deal." The yellow and cream flier nodded, the older two walking away from the shrine.
"Did I say something wrong?" K'aak whispered as he lay in the bed provided to him by the Hedgehog family. He'd been repeating similar questions to himself since his friend had suddenly left a few days prior.
"I'm sure you didn't do anything wrong K'aak." Cream assured the boy as she changed his bandages, causing the red hedgehog to jump...he'd forgotten that there was someone else in the room.
"...Then why did she leave like that?" He questioned, the rabbit pulling back with an unheard sigh.
"I'm certain she'll return soon to explain herself." She responded, ears twitching slightly as she heard the door downstairs open. "Perhaps even now." Was added as she heard the familiar voice of her daughter.
"She's back?!" The red hedgehog asked in excitement, going to stand to go see his friend. He was immediately pushed back onto the bed by said friend's mother.
"She'll be up, you shouldn't push yourself."
"But..." Red eyes fell to the floor, their owner suddenly looking rather worried. "...what if she doesn't?" He murmured, biting his lip at the very thought.
"She will. I know my daughter." The brown eyed woman responded with a soft smile...she was glad that there was someone who cared for Sugar so strongly, she deserved it after the type of parents she had; after everything she'd expected of herself and failed to live up to.
"You're sure?" The armour owning boy asked, the cream and brown flier nodding.
"I'm completely certain." She stated simply, smiling at the look of hope that filled the boy's eyes.
"Mother? Could you leave K'aak and I alone?" Sugar questioned as she entered the room, the woman giving her a hug before nodding and leaving. "How are you doing?" She probed.
"Healing...slowly, like you said before, but healing." K'aak replied, looking away from his friend suddenly. "Why...did you leave so suddenly? Did I say something wrong?"
"Did my leaving like that make you worry like that? I am sorry, I never meant for that." The rabbit hybrid apologised. "I just...I panicked and ran, I apologise."
"What made you panic?" The hedgehog asked, looking at her once more.
"I...K'aak, how do you feel about me?" The sudden question caused the boy to blush.
"W-what?" He stuttered, blush worsening. "I-I..."
"Please answer honestly." The rabbit said.
"I..." He bit his lip, not wanting to admit the truth to the girl...it seemed he had little choice though. "I think I...love you Sugar..." The girl smiled.
"And I love you." She stated, walking over to the now rather shocked looking red eyed boy. She placed a soft kiss on his lips before pulling back with a blush.
"Sh...Sugar..." The armour owning boy whispered, love and a bit of lust in his eyes. "Are you sure? I don't think I can stop loving you...if you want to be together it'll be forever." He warned, eyes widening when the smile of the yellow and cream flier only widened.
"I would not have it any other way." It was his turn to smile widely, grabbing his now girlfriend's wrist and pulling her down to give her a kiss.
"K'aak..." Sugar whispered, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him back.
Not my best chapter, but I felt like Mach would be the only one to talk to Sugar about running away from a problem; especially when that problem revolves around someone she cares so much about. Mach isn't the hero type...he wouldn't have saved K'aak if he didn't already know that she'd fallen for him, so he wouldn't just let her hide from that as her 'brother'. See you all later!
