Wow! Chapter fourteen!

So I write a lot about medical or other stuff and it all may be inaccurate, but honestly, I don't really care.

Any who, enjoy. Please review. Thank you if you do.

Chapter Fourteen. Carnivals and Other Things

"Hey, mom." I said as I walked into my parent's room. She put whatever book that she was reading down.

"Yes, Sam?"

"I have a question, well more like a favor, that I want to ask you." I said, looked at my mom. Her face lit up at what I had said. Was this a good thing?

"What is it?" Her voice light and full of interest. There was a motherly smile on her face.

"This weekend is the 'Summer's End' carnival, and I was hoping that I could go with Danny and spend all of Saturday there. I understand if I cannot go."

My mom gave me a strange look. "Of course you can go, silly. You've been so great about all of this. Spend the day with your boyfriend. It'll be good."

"What about dad?"

"Your dad can go fuck himself." My eyes went wide at what my mom just said. I recovered quickly, closing my mouth, not realizing that it was open. "It's how I feel." She answered my unspoken question.

"Changing the subject completely," warning my mom. "what are you reading?"

She chuckled. "I'm not really readying anything. I'm looking through your old pictures."

"Can I join you?" I asked.

"Yes." She sounded so delighted by this and her expression reflected that tone in her voice. I went over to her bed, and climbed in; sitting next to her while she put the book in her lap. She pointed to a picture of a really small baby in a cute little, fuzzy outfit. "This is you at six months."

"Should I have been bigger?" I asked, staring at my six month old self. I looked tiny.

"Every baby is different." My mom answered.

"That is very true." I stated absently. I wasn't sure how else to respond as I stared at the pictures. "You guys look young, like nineteen year old young."

"We were twenty when you were born."

"Really?" I asked, the surprise not hidden in my voice.

"Yes. We were young, but we have no regrets."

"Even now?" I asked.

"Yes, even now." My mother smiled at me with an all knowing look.

When Saturday rolled around, I was ready for a day of fun. It was nothing but stress from dad and his bitching. Getting the needs of my mom settled wasn't so bad but I had the most unsettling feeling with her and the baby, like something bad was going to happen; I didn't let those thoughts and feelings control me or anything. The baby and my mom were going to be fine.

Danny said that he was going to pick me up around nine thirty, so I got up at eight thirty. I took a shower and got dressed and quickly ate some dry cereal. I wanted some extra time to help my mother out however I could, but when I went into her room, she was dead asleep. I stared at her with a soft smile. She looked so peaceful while she slept. When my mom was awake she usually looked stressed and dad wasn't helping anything. "I love you mommy." I whispered. Then I quietly slipped away and went downstairs. I went outside and saw Danny coming up to the front door. "Hey." I said with a smile.

"Hey. What's wrong?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Besides my dad, nothing. My mom was asleep and I didn't want her to be woken up." I answered.

Danny smiled sweetly at me as I came down from the stairs. We embraced each other like it was our last moment on earth. "I missed you so much. Ghost hunting is not as fun without you."

"Ghost fighting is fun?"

Danny laughed. "No, but you being there makes it better."

"Thanks Danny." I said with a smile. Danny took my hand into his and our fingers intertwined with each other. Last night's dream flashed through my mind and I could feel myself getting wet. We began walking towards the location of the Carnival, while walking we talked about school and the classes that we would be taking and the excitement of senior year. Dash and most of his friends will no longer be there, thank you graduation. Paulina's father won the lottery and they moved to Los Angeles. Star was in our class so we still had to put up with her. Kwan got held back, so they had to put up with him as well.

"Did you hear about Valerie?" Danny asked.

"I haven't contacted her since the end of last year."

"I've been keeping in touch with her and guess what?"

"What?"

"She went through summer school, graduated early, got married and moved to the town that she and her husband, by the way her husband is Nathan, want to go to."

"She's way too young to have gotten married. Unless she's pregnant. Is she?"

"Nope, she and Nathan use birth control religiously."

"Interesting. Well, I hope it lasts. Did she give up ghost hunting?" I asked.

"Yes, she did."

"Did she tell her husband about ghosts?"

"No, she did not."

"Weird but still interesting." I said.

I remained silent by this but I wasn't silent for long, we had arrived at the carnival. It was early in the day, so the crowds were small . . . for now. I squeezed Danny's hands in excitement. He squeezed back. Danny got the all day ride any ride wrist bands.

"Come on! Let's go ride some rides before the lines get freakin' huge!" I suggested excitedly as I took Danny's hand and 'dragged' him towards the nearest none kiddy ride.

"Okay, Sam." I could hear the smile in his voice. We went from ride to ride to ride, having a ball with each one. By the time it was noon, or around noon, the lines have filled, making the wait be about an hour or for each one. "Sam, how about some food?" Danny asked.

Then my stomach made a growling sound. "Sure." I said as I stuck out my tongue.

"Okay, I'll be right back. Save our spot." He said as he took off.

I chuckled as I watched him disappear into the crowd. It was about five minutes after Danny left when I heard Paulina's annoying laugh. My heart fell into my stomach. I looked around, as my heart began race in my stomach. I saw Dash's head above most of the crowd and my blood boiled. I saw him laugh at whatever it was. I wanted their heads on sticks. I felt something drip down my hands. I looked at them and my nails had pierced my skin. That was when I realized tears for free flowing down my cheeks. I wanted to hurt them. It was all I wanted. I did the mature thing and I left, to put as much distance between them and me. I kept walking and then it dawned on me. Danny! I looked around and I easily spotted him. I went up to him. "Hey." I said.

"Hey. Aren't you supposed to be saving our spot?"

"Yeah, but Paulina and crew showed up so I walked away before I got my first assault charge or murder charge."

"Dude your foods up." We both turned towards the guy who spoke. He handed Danny two disposable baskets. Danny handed one to me.

"It was the only place that I could find that had a vegetarian item that wasn't fries." I looked down and it was a salad with all the goodies that wasn't meat. I looked up at the menu and the salad was expensive.

"Thanks Danny." I said with a smile.

"No problem." He smiled back, but it was a sad smile. "So Paulina and Dash and the rest of them," said 'them' with venom in his voice. "are here?"

"Yes, apparently so."

"I thought they all disappeared into the wind." Anger in his voice. The anger and hatred rolled off of him, I could feel him.

I dropped the salad without a second thought and hugged him. I felt his ghost powers trying to escape. He was trying so hard to control his emotions . . . his powers. He hugged me back. "They are not worth it." I whispered.

"I know." He whispered after ten minutes of silence.
