A/N: Okay listen, before you read this I love you please dont kill the author!

Rose was able to successfully return to the Ravenclaw common room. Only to find the boy she left there earlier was not the slightest bit asleep, nor had he moved an inch. His eyes were bloodshot as if he too had just spent a majority of the night crying. It was so late she no longer knew what hour it was.

The events that occurred tonight had her feelings in a knot. She had no idea what just happened between her and Scorpius or if it was anything at all.

She had briefly wanted him to kiss her, which she would be lying if she said she never thought about.

Only this time she thought maybe he wanted it too. However these thoughts of hers were briefly subsided when he stood up and advanced on her. Unaware of what he was attempting to do she warily took half a step back.

He looked at her so sincerely as he spoke, "I know I'm not Scorpius. I know that I might not be your best mate. But tonight when you ran out… Something broke in me. God, in all my fantasies never once did I prepare myself for rejection. I always thought, since we were younger I thought that you and I, that we would end up together. It's a very feeble desire I know… The only thing I ever wanted as far back as I can remember was to be Rosie's boyfriend. I grew to be envious and I neglected you entirely and focused on this image of you I created…."

He paused and shook his head as if he was debating on what to say next. As if he had a huge rehearsed speech. However, finally looking at her and the way she looked at him with those globe like eyes. He closed his eyes and sharply took in a breath.

"I was always the only one you talked to… I was always your best friend who wasn't actually related to you… Then he came along. No one even likes him, not even his own house. The most emotion people feel for him is fear, but not you. Somehow I lost to him. Suddenly it was all Scorp and I got overcome with jealousy… I'm sorry when you first came in here I didn't notice you were so sad. After you left I was scared. I've never seen you like that. I hated it so much. That's not the little weasley I know…. My brother earlier he was talking about some bird he fancies an he said he wanted to know every side of her and that made me think… if I felt that way about you…. I-I don't. I just want to see you fun and happy all the time.. It never once occurred to me you could be anything besides those things. I wondered if that made me a bad person or if what I felt for you was unreal, but I don't think it does. It just means being with me you'll always be happy. I think."

Rose crinkled her nose at his confession. Something about how he chose to word it made her feel uneasy. Then it dawned on her what he was actually saying. He liked her. He always had. How could she have possibly been so oblivious.

"Lorcan.. I…" She stuttered out but he held his hand up to stop her.

"before you tell me you are in love with Scorpius. Just maybe think about me as an option. At least recognize that I'm also in the race and I've been running a lot longer than any of these other blokes." She sighed and looked at him and could tell on the instant that he was desperate. It must have taken him a lot of courage to finally admit this. She sympathized with her long term friend. Now she noticed little things like the way his eyes grew as he looked at her so hopeful, his dark blue eyes. His eyes so common amongst the students. How could him and Scorp both Identify with blue eyes when they were so different.

"I don't love Scorp like that, Lorcan." Was all she mustered to say the only truthful thing she could say to him in this moment. However, she was questioning whether that in fact was a lie or not.

Not backing down he already came too far he needed to know the answer right now. He either needed to be with her or get over her and this was the deciding moment. So without the slightest quiver he locked her gaze and spoke, "And what about me."

She never considered the extent to which Lorcan's feelings were for her. Perhaps she had noticed a slight fancy, but could it actually be more than that? She now questioned every instinct she ever had about any bloke's character. After what Madison had put her through, how Scorp just looked at her and now with this confession. Why was it that chaos always came all at once, never spread out. No breaks.

Without realizing her lips were moving she meekly whispered, "Perhaps… I might feel something for you."

A smile spread across his features illuminating his face with the most jovial expression she's ever seen on him.

She could hardly believe her words could effect him so much. She could hardly believe the words she just spoke. Something in her twisted she hated to lie to someone she cared so much about. It wasn't a lie she did feel something for him, but she knew what she felt and what he thought were very different things. She was just so tired of these emotions. She was exhausted with boys.

Lorcan now feeling reassured silently walked closer to her and didn't notice when she involuntarily moved slightly backward.

As Lorcan began his decent toward her lips she watched. Watched his eyes already fluttering shut. Watched as his lips slightly parted. And she was still watching when he pressed his lips to hers. His lips were full and knew precisely what to do. Not unlike Madison's she wondered if he only ever fancied her, how he was so good at this act.

She wondered why she didn't close her eyes or if that made her a bad person. Attempting to reciprocate the kiss and she was pleased when she felt him smile into the kiss.

It didn't feel right. It wasn't right, she corrected her thoughts. It was not right how scorpius could make her feel more without even placing his lips on her than this boy who admitted to being in love with her could make her feel. It was not right in the slightest of ways. He seemed to be so thoroughly unraveled in something that had her feeling so bland.

Finally after what seemed to be an eternity he pulled away with his eyes still closed he rested his forehead on hers and their noses brushed softly.

"So, Rose Weasley, will you be my girlfriend." He asked her with the innocent of looks that she knew was probably not innocent in any way at all.

He was in fact happy though. Perhaps if she wasn't so conflicted the happiness would have been contagious.

Despite her unhappy state, of which he took no notice in. She couldn't bring herself to crush him. She couldn't let herself lose one of her oldest friends. So whether it was out of exhaustion or her own selfishness on friendship she closed her eyes for the first time and put on the fakest smile she could muster.

"Well of Course. I'd love that Lorcan." he beamed at her and kissed her once more in what she assumed to represent some type of passion he kept abide. To her it only felt like a lot of pressure, bruising and slight pain.

He seemed to enjoy it and when he finally let her go he wished her goodnight and said he would see her at breakfast the next morning to which she agreed.

Climbing the staircase she couldn't help, but think that not once had he asked her what was wrong with her earlier or if she was okay. If you loved someone like he claimed to wouldn't you make sure they are okay before confessing to them?

She secretly hoped Lily would be awake so she could explain to her the events of the night, but at such an ungodly hour how could she be awake.

Her hypothesis was correct and her wish was crushed. Each person in Lily's year was sleeping so she kept walking until she reached her year's dormitory. She saw autumns bed and after he night with Scorpius she didn't cry like she thought.

She smirked knowing when she woke Madison wouldn't be in any state for her to rub her vixen like lips across. The lips that very well vomited slugs into his mouth that would later be beat senseless by her very best mate.

Her very best mate she nearly snogged senseless. Nearly, but he had rejected her leaving her longing for her best mate. But instead she received a snog from her oldest friend, which was now her boyfriend.

How would Scorp react to this? He would probably turn the other cheek. Saying he would want her to be happy and if this made her happy than that was good enough for him. Something like that only more profound or if he was in a good mood something more cocky to make her laugh.

She only hoped he didn't notice how truly unhappy she was being in a relationship with Lorcan. She wasn't going to sabotage the relationship. If he loved her then she would try as hard as she could to work it out. However, if those kisses were any indication of her future feelings for him then well…. She had little faith it would work out.

Her thought process being that if she couldn't reciprocate then he'd notice too and they could mutually agree to break it off and there would be a chance to preserve their friendship. However, if she had flat out rejected him tonight he'd never forgive her and his temper would get the better of him. An alternative could be her actually falling for him and if that happened, well it wouldn't be terrible at least she'd be happy.

So she collapsed on her bed, but her mind betrayed her as her dreams filled with images of a blonde hair boy, but not who she should be dreaming about, one with steal grey eyes. One who would never feel anything other than friendship for her. However, she was indeed lucky to have that.

It was precisely 5:00 A.M. when Rose walked out of the washrooms fully prepared for her day with her uniform on, chipper as always despite only receiving 3 hours of sleep.

She was greeted with an unlikely boy, prim and proper as always waiting for her.

"Usually you meet me in the Great hall." She smiled at him, her smile faltering slightly.

"Well I wanted to make sure you were okay a lot happened last night." Scorpius told her with a shy smile creeping his lips.

"That's not your responsibility." She told him curtly and began walking to the great hall beside the Slytherin.

Rolling his eyes he chuckled, "Well I made it my responsibility to make sure you were alright and if you aren't I want to help you fix it."

She tried to smile and seem appreciative toward him, but for some reason she felt as though she were betraying him. She desperately didn't want him to know what she had regretfully agreed to last night. Seeing his face and his concern for her well being. She knew it was only friendship, her mind knew that she did nothing wrong.

But for some reason she couldn't help, but feel it.

He sighed and looked at her scanning her, studying her movements, "What's wrong."

This was it she had to pretend to be happier than she ever was. She had to make him believe she was truly content with what had happened. Putting on her best smile she beamed at him.

She thought about last night, but the only moments where she was significantly happy were when she was with him so she focused on those memories. The way he looked at her and the close proximity they were at. The longing each of them held in their gaze. That was enough happiness to help her with her smile.

"Nothing I'm just surprisingly happy."

Scorpius confused as ever took note of the change in demeanor of her eyes. The distinct change that made her radiate with true happiness he couldn't deny.

When he said nothing she internally shivered, but kept up her act, "Well last night when I went back to the common room… Lorcan was waiting for me. He confessed to me. Then asked me to be his girlfriend."

A lump grew in his throat and he hoarsely spoke, "And you said…."

With a slight giggle she replied, "Well, yes of course."

He closed his eyes and counted backward from 5. How could he possibly ever think that perhaps he was why she was so happy. That last night meant to her what it did to him. How could he ever be so bloody stupid. He was the smartest boy in their year. Yet when it came to Rose he was clueless.

He became numb. Not allowing himself to feel anything at all in the moment. Rose saw a fog cloud over his eyes. It was as if a shield had enveloped him entirely cutting him off from her.

"Ah, yes. Of course." A smile sprayed smoothly across his features no matter how strained it was on the inside. He appeared to her completely at ease.

"to the great hall then. You're Boy… Lorcan usually is early himself. You probably would like to see him as soon as possible." He began to walk more briskly not caring if she kept up with him.

"Are you alright with this Scorp?" She asked gently and he stopped spinning around to stare at her.

"And why on earth wouldn't I be?" He advanced on her attempting to be threatening.

He however faltered slightly when she chuckled and patted his chest.

"Don't ever try to whole big bad wolf routine on me. Have you forgotten who I am?" She told him with a mere roll of her eyes.

Oh if only he could. If only he could forget every waking thing about this bloody red haired girl.

His features softened and he smiled softly at her, "Sorry, My mind's a little spaced out. I know the moment I enter the great hall headmistress McGunnagall will question me and give me a months worth of detention for knocking out the oafs teeth."

She laughed at that, "How many teeth did you punch out of the bloke?"

"Just three. He unfortunately left them behind in his questionable hurry so I merely vanished them once you left. Now at least we will know the first three teeth in his mouth are incredibly fake conjured from whatever was a lying around the hospital wing." He said smugly and awfully proud of his deed.

He did good job of evading the new information she told him from his mind. He was back to normal around her. He'd hate to fight with her so close to break next week when he was scheduled to stay at the burrow after visiting briefly with his family. It was now a regular occurrence, him staying at the burrow with her and Albus.

They entered the great hall he sat next to her and they teased each other some more until slowly the tables started to fill.

Scorpius was so caught up in Rose and so aware of his feelings for the girl he was able to forget for almost an hour that she wasn't his anymore. Well, she never officially was, but now that she clearly wasn't it sure felt like he lost something.

A light tap on his shoulder he looked up to a smug looking blonde with dark blue eyes, "I believe you are in my seat."

The identical face sat across from Rose, but no one was focused on him in the slightest not even Lily who sat next to him.

Lily watched the scene unravel in complete confusion. Lysander picked up a slice of bacon already understanding what was happening for he was woken up at an ungodly hour last night as Lorcan told him the 'riveting' tale of Rose Weasley.

Rose's face paled, "Lorcan there is a seat for you on my other side."

Scorpius shook his head, "No, Rose he's right." Scorpius tried as hard as he could to look emotionless even as he felt every bone inside of him crumble. He continued without any kind of shiver, "This is no longer my seat."

With that he stood up and shoved his shaking hands into his pockets. Avoiding all eye contact he looked forward and began his walk back.

"It never was!" He heard the antagonizing voice of the boy who stole Rose right out of his hands.

Good thing none of them could see Scorpius's face twinge with anger. Oh that boy had a lot to learn if he believed that seat never belonged to him.

It did. But he was stupid enough to practically hand it over to someone who was trying to sit there for longer than he had it.

How unfair to lose the seat before he even know he was sitting.

The only thing that kept his anger at bay was how happy she looked this morning. How heartbreakingly jovial her smile was. How he wished she was thinking of him to make that smile happen.

How could he feel so much for someone who felt nothing. How couldn't she notice his longing. She was much smarter than him how didn't she know, especially after last night.

Perhaps that was it. Perhaps she did know. Only she didn't feel the same. Perhaps she loved him, but could never be in love with him. Could never feel what he felt.

His heart shuddered as if he was just stabbed with a silver blade. No, that thought was too painful to ponder. All of this was too painful. Merlin sakes why did he ever speak to that girl on that bloody train 5 years ago?

Because she was Rose Weasley and having her in his life in any way was remarkable. Rose Weasley had this sense about her that brightened every room and for someone who only saw grey, well… She was unraveling, an enigma. With a mere smile or blink of her giant globe like crystal eyes he would spill out his entire pot of secrets without a second thought. He'd travel anywhere just to be her friend.

Because as painful as being her friend was he could never imagine being a simple stranger to her.

If he was in agony as a friend, not knowing her at all seemed unbearable.

Scorpius made it back to his table and felt the burning sensation of a pair of eyes on him.

Looking up his eyes, like a magnet found the bright blue ones instantly. They were wide with concern her lips parted slightly. She looked as though she were about to get up and walk over to him.

He offered her a reassuring smile, for he could never let her see him crying because of her. The tears were like poison welling up under his eyelids and only letting them fall would relieve him of the pain.

He wouldn't do it though. He couldn't do it. He had to be strong now. Damn it if Rose Weasley could knock down all his walls he'd just have to work harder to rebuild them.

Rose jerked up, but when a slimy Raven's hand draped over her shoulders she fell back down not breaking eye-contact with him.

He wouldn't be the one to look away. For some reason if he looked away he felt like he was backing down. Like he was letting his feelings for her go and he'd never do that because loving Rose Weasley despite the pain was the most lively thing he's ever experienced.

She bit her lips and closed her eyes for a long time before turning to her boyfriend and smiled at him with what appeared to be the purest image.

Just because he loved her didn't mean he had to wittiness this. He stood up and made his way out of the great hall. He held back his tears until he was in an empty boys laboratory.

He thought of Rose and Him doing prefect rounds. He thought of how Rose used to smile at him. He thought of all the moments he wanted nothing more than to kiss her. He thought of last night when he was so sure that in that moment she loved him back. He thought of how unfair it was that the moment he realizes how utterly in love with her he was she fell fro another bloke. How he lost her before he even realized he had her. All those wasted years.

But worst of all his happiness depended on someone who he couldn't make happy. No matter what he did he'd never be able to make her truly happy and that killed him. Not being able to make her happy killed him.

That's what started the slow decent of his tears. They dragged slowly down his face like razor blades cutting his skin burning it, but at the same time relieving tension.

Punching a wall he cursed. He didn't curse Rose Weasley, no he'd never do that. He cursed himself. He cursed whoever it was that made him fall in love with someone so impossible. He cursed because he finally understood why people wrote books about unrequited love. The pain was so much that one had to vent about it somehow in some form just to ease the pain, but even then it was still too much to manage.

Rose Weasley was too much to manage.
