Scene#3
"Why don't you ever visit me?"
"What do you call this?"
Hadrian sat perched on the edge of a tall building, legs over the edge kicking. A hot sandwich in his lap, empty potions bottle to his right. Lady sat beside him staring up at the stars. She did that a lot.
"At the house I mean."
She tilted her head, debating her answer.
That was something he noticed about her. She was one of those people who thought before she spoke. If she spoke. And then, when she did, it was as if she had the whole conversation and all of your possible responses thought out. He didn't think it was possible to catch her off guard. Of course that also meant you couldn't take her answers at face value. They'd be the truth sure, but that didn't mean it was the truth you were looking for.
"You've never invited me."
He blinked.
"You're invited. Always. Anytime. Unless the Muggles are up I suppose. Don't imagine it would go over too well. However if you should ever find yourself, I don't know, just throwing it out there, in need of a snack..."
He got a smirk in response. Lady reached into one of her many pockets and pulled out an apple. It must be her favorite food, he mused, because he had never seen her eat anything else. He did see her take potions. One was yellow and the other a dark red. He saw the yellow one maybe once a month. The other one he saw almost every time they met. She had begun taking it when he took his. To make him feel better about it probably. He knew the apple was her response to his hint about her creature status. It annoyed him.
"What are you?" He winced at his boldness. His creature history was limited to battles, society structure and government organization. He knew nothing about their social aspects. The customs and etiquette that went along with them. She'd forgive him if he was being insulting. Right?
"A secret."
Figures she would give that sort of an answer.
"You're not human. Not entirely. You're something more. I can tell."
"Nor are you."
He considered this. She had a fair point. He was the only kid he knew being taught to manipulate the atoms around him and use them to create visible change in the physical world. Or something to that effect. It had been a long discussion. He needed to go over his notes again. He wasn't the one stalking rooftops at night though. Well, actually, now he was. But that was not part of his normal routine prior to meeting Lady. He nodded curtly and let it go. For now.
Quite suddenly Lady stood and jumped off the edge of the roof.
Hadrian stared. There she was on the other building. That wouldn't have been impressive, as she and Hadrian himself had taken to jumping roof tops at night. But this was no three feet gap. It was across the bloody street. At least thirty feet away.
She cupped her hands and yelled into the night. "Beware my dangerous precipitation!"
Really?
He glared at her. "Are you insane?"
No answer, she only tilted her head.
"Really? You have to think about it?" Lady continued looking up at the sky, a smile on her face.
Later with Hadrian standing next to her, after she had finally brought him over, she managed to tear her eyes from the sky to look at him. He glanced up at her with trepidation. He had enough crazy for one night thank you very much.
"You are less than happy with my answer."
He thought that was obvious but out of self preservation he said nothing.
"Here is a riddle just for you Hadrian."
That...wasn't what he was expecting. There had to be a reason for it though, he couldn't imagine she was having a moment of whimsy.
He nodded at her to continue.
"Are we watching the stars or are the stars watching us?"
