Chapter Fourteen: Apollo's Fate

After picking straws, Steve was the unlucky one who picked the short one. The irony was that he was the one holding them all in his hand. Now, he was the unlucky one who had to pull Thor out his moment with Jane and his child. Lucky for Steve, Thor looked up at him when he was approaching.

"We need to tell you something," Steve says softly.

Immediately, Thor nods. He hands Apollo over to Jane before stepping aside with Steve.

"We asked Amora about her intentions with Apollo and she kept on going on about Fate and The Gods," Steve explains. "She surrendered because Fate demanded that she not fight."

"That's unlike her but Fate makes us all do crazy things," Thor says. "If you reject your prophecy, your mind rejects you."

The two men approach the remaining Avengers so that Thor could see what their discussion was about.

"What else have we learned?" Thor asks them.

"That anger is always the shortest distance to making a mistake," Bruce states, "and this time, I'm not talking about myself."

Thor sighs before nodding. He crosses his arms as he looks at Amora who continues to sit on a tree stump with her legs crossed. She fiddles with her golden hair as if she had nothing better to do.

"I have a simple question," Tony asks, breaking the silence. "Is Apollo human?"

"What?" Thor scoffs, thinking that Tony was joking but he wasn't. Thor's smile suddenly vanishes. "Of course he isn't. He's my son. He's a demigod at most considering that Jane is his mother but in this day and age, god and demigod are used interchangeably."

"So can he summon lightning?" Clint asks a bit excitedly. "Can he lift your hammer? Or does he get his own?"

"No!" Thor exclaims. "No...or at least, I do not think he can. I just met him a few moments ago."

"You don't sound so sure."

"Because I still do not understand that!" Thor points directly at Amora who ignores him. "I don't know how all this could have happened. She managed to take Jane early enough to not know about her pregnancy and yet - "

"Which led us to wonder when it happened," Natasha says to him. "We were discussing this while you and Jane were reconnecting. We didn't want to interrupt."

"When what happened?" Thor asks her.

The other Avengers all do their best to hide their laughter as Natasha sighs in frustration. She picked the second shortest straw which meant that she was stuck asking this question. It didn't help that the others, especially Tony and Clint, are currently being totally immature about this.

"I'm trying to be delicate," Natasha says. If she knew this conversation would be happening, she would've stayed home and make Clint handle this. She takes a short breath before starting again. "When did Apollo...begin?"

Thor stares at Natasha blankly, still trying to process what Natasha's asking. In response, Natasha winces.

"When was Apollo conceived?!" Natasha finally asks.

Thor finally understands what the question is...and the reddening of his cheeks was beyond his control. And for some reason, the other Avengers were curious about the answer and even Amora started grinning to herself.

"Well, how would I know?" Thor questions. "That is all private stuff. It just sort of happens. You do not host a celebration when it does happen!"

"But we have to narrow it down," Bruce says, "Apollo is already four months old so that would mean that he was born in November. Under the assumption that Jane was pregnant for nine months - which Amora says yes to - that would mean..."

Bruce pauses for a moment to count back the months and see when Thor has his real Jane with him. He lands on February and his eyes widen when he, Thor, and the others realize what happened in February. Finding the answer makes them all speechless at first. Tony and Clint's laughter squeak out of their mouths once they managed to put two and two together.

"Our wedding night..." Thor concludes, nodding his head. It only makes sense that way.

"Those vows must have been one hell of a kick-start," Tony mutters, smirking to himself. "Actually, they were. I remember them. Maybe it was that line about Asgard and Midgard being united now more than ever. It brought tears to my eyes."

Thor doesn't react. He just looks at Tony as he reminisces back to Thor's wedding. It was one of the grandest celebrations to happen before they all gave birth to their children. Now knowing that he conceived his the night of, it just makes the event all the more exciting yet terrifying.

"And Amora gave in so easily..." Steve adds. "Why would Fate tell her to do that?"

"She'll have something to gain," Natasha says.

"What would my son give her?" Thor asks, looking directly at Amora.

"Power," Amora responds.

"So he can summon lightning!" Clint exclaims. He looks at Amora. "He can, right?"

"I assume that he can but no," Amora says, shaking her head. "That is not the reason why. I need him to get power."

"So Apollo is your weapon," Tony states sourly. Amora nods.

Thor begins to simmer. "Why would Fate make my son a weapon?"

Amora rolls her eyes at him being oblivious. "They know you. Everyone knows you. Thor, future King of Asgard and protector of Midgard, an ally of a powerful Midgardian team of heroes, marries a Midgardian woman with eyes in the stars. On the night of their uniting, they conceive a son who comes from both Realms. Now, Asgard and Midgard finally have a bond keeping them together. Who better to protect the two Realms than one with blood from both?"

Thor eases up and steps back. Those last few words echo in his mind and he turns around and looks at Jane who cradles their son in her arms. All of this and what is to come was because of him...

Thor and Jane's wedding will be in one of the other revamped stories in this series.
