Chapter 14: Sairen no nageki
(The Siren's Lament)

When club finally ended, I had finished the background and most of the peach tree. I put my paints away and turned on the fan to make the paint dry faster so I could transport it without the paint smudging. I stepped out from behind my curtain to see the guys and Haruhi sitting on the couches that faced the corner. I grimaced.

"So, care to introduce us, Gwen?" asked Tamaki, smiling a little wryly.

I sighed, lifting the corner of my mouth into a half-smile. "Of course, Tamaki-senpai," I said. "But keep in mind, guys, that they don't speak Japanese," I added, being serious. "They only speaks English. Liona and Jaycee know a little Japanese, but even then, they don't know that much."

"That being said," I continued, speaking English, "I will introduce them to you so that they can understand me. Got it?"

They nodded, and I smiled brighter. I turned to Alaina and the girls and gestured for them to come over. They stood next to me, and Jaycee stood in front of me. I wrapped my arms around her and rested my chin on her head.

"Okay, this lil cutie is my unofficial daughter, Jaycee," I said. "Then, going down the line, there's Ashley, Ty, Gabby, Amy, and Liona. Guys," I said to the aforementioned group, "this is Tamaki-senpai, Kyouya-senpai, Hikaru, Kaoru, Haruhi, Mitsukuni-senpai, and Takashi-senpai."

"Hi~!" said Jaycee, smiling cutely. She then looked up at me. "And who you callin' 'cute'? I'm a rage-filled demon!"

"That's why you're cute, dear," I said, patting her head. She grumbled a little and crossed her arms, her cheeks puffing out.

"Welcome to the Host Club, ladies!" said Tamaki, going full-on "Prince Mode." I was impressed with his English, which had a faint French accent.

"Whoa, wait man, you French?" asked Liona.

He looked taken aback and looked at me. "How do they know?" he asked.

I facepalmed and shook my head. "Tamaki-senpai, your English has a French accent, and you ACT FRENCH," I said. "It makes it kind of obvious."

"Oh," he said, looking surprised. The girls giggled, and Liona looked at me.

"Man, gurl, you really know how to find 'em," she said. I stuck my tongue out at her.

"Oh mleh; they're all pretty damn awesome in their own ways," I said. Alaina nodded in agreement.

Then, all of a sudden, my phone started playing "Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride" and vibrating in my pocket. I blushed a little in embarrassment. "Yeah, that's mum," I said sheepishly when everyone looked at me. "I'm just gonna . . . yeah, I'll get that . . ."

I let Jaycee go and ran out the door and stood outside it as I answered. "Hey, ma, what's up?" I asked.

"Did the girls get there okay?" she asked. "They stopped off at the house before I left for work and dropped off their stuff. Are they there?"

"Mum . . . you knew they were coming, and you didn't text me?!" I asked. "That would've saved me form the heart attack Jaycee gave me when she glomped me."

"Sorry, dear," she said, giggling. "They wanted to surprise you!"

"Yes, I got that . . . . *sigh* Next time, warn me anyways?" I said pleadingly. "I'm gonna let you go; I left them alone with Alaina and the others . . . that's dangerous for many reasons."

She was quiet for a moment, before saying, "Point taken . . . and yeah, I'll text you the next time they decide to 'surprise' you. I better let you go; don't kill them, Moonbeam . . . ."

"Of course I won't," I said, giggling. "See you when we get home!" With that, I hung up. I went back into the room and saw that the girls and the club were mingling and chattering with each other. I sighed in relief. Then, Jaycee came up to me and grinned.

"Mommy~! We brought you something~!" she said, digging around in her purse. Then, she pulled out . . . the economy sized . . . tub of Nutella!

"EEEEEE~!" I squealed, taking it form her. I twirled around, cradling it to my chest and humming in happiness. "YOU GUYS BROUGHT ME FRIGGIN' NUTELLA~!"

I giggled and grinned widely, going to the utensil drawer and grabbing a spoon. I opened the container and sat down and started eating spoonfuls of it.

I watched Gwenivere sit on one of the couches and start eating spoonfuls of the strange spread. I raised a brow and fought a smile. Mitsukuni looked at the one called Jaycee, a slight blush on his cheeks.

"Ne, Jay-chan, is Gwen-chan always like that with that stuff?"

Jaycee nodded at him, giggling. "Yep~! She loves Nutella," she said. "She goes crazy for anything sweet, really, but Nutella is her favorite. Have any of you ever had it?" she added in question, looking between the two of us.

We both shook our heads, and she gasped in horror, her mouth falling open. "Oh my god, you guys have never had Nutella?!"

With that, Gwenivere appeared next to me, her expression intense. "WHAT?! You guys have never had Nutella?! You poor, poor souls . . . ." Her eyes became teary, and for some reason, I actually felt like I had missed out.

"No," I said. She gasped, then dunked the spoon into the spread, then held it out to me.

"You. MUST. Try it!" she said, her eyes boring into mine. I felt my own eyes widen at her intensity, and a faint blush coat my cheeks.

"Okay . . ." I said, taking the spoon. I sniffed it, and found that it smelled like chocolate. Tilting my head, I licked a little bit of it off the spoon, and then my eyes widened.

"Wow," I said. "It isn't that bad . . ." I looked down at Mitsukuni and handed the spoon to him, since he was looking at me pleadingly for it.

He smiled and put the whole spoon in his mouth. Then, his eyes widened and they seemed to sparkle. I smiled, and saw that Gwenivere was smiling as well.

"So, you like it, Mitsukuni-senpai?" she asked, giggling.

He nodded emphatically. "This is soooooo GOOD~!" he said, smiling up at her. She laughed.

"Well, the lot of you can bond or whatever at my place," she said. "Hell, I might just break out the big Rock Band set and my American Clan and I can wow you lot with our mad skills. And yes, Senpai," she added, chuckling, "you can still keep eating some of the Nutella. Just save some for me, okay?"

He jumped up and down in excitement, handing her back the spoon. She chuckled and continued eating the delicious spread, her mouth starting to become covered in it.

"Okay, guys, let's get this party started!" I said, grinning as I finished setting up the larger Rock Band set. As I plugged in the last instrument, Tamaki came over to me.

"With us coming over, will you still be able to finish the painting?" he asked.

"Oh yeah, with no problems. I don't go to sleep until midnight anyways, and it won't take me long to finish it up," I said, waving his question off. "Don't you worry your pretty little head, Tamaki-senpai."

That made him smile, and I chuckled before turning to my large group of friends. "Alright!" I called out, clapping my hands together. "The set is all put up, and now it's time for the fun to begin!"

They all whooped and fist-pumped the air in excitement except Haruhi, Takashi, and Kyouya. They all sat on one of the random chairs/beanbag chairs I'd set out. I stood before them and grinned, turning on the game.

"Alright, who wants to go first?" I asked, grinning.

Not to my surprise, Liona, Gabby, Jaycee, and Amy raised their hands. "Gurl, you know what song we want, right?" asked Liona, raising a brow.

I giggled and scrolled through the song list quickly as they went to the various mics I'd set out; in total, I had about 6. They each settled at one, then looked at me and Alaina.

"You guys gonna do your parts, too?" asked Amy. We nodded, then stood in front of our mics. I hit play, and listened to Liona sing the opening to Block B's "Nillili Mambo."

We each sang a different band member's parts; I always had U-Kwon's part, since it was my absolute favorite. When the song was over, everyone clapped and we all bowed ostentatiously.

"Uh thank ya, thank ya vurry much," said Jaycee in a terribly high-pitched Elvis impersonator. Mitsukuni giggled, and she grinned at him. He clammed up and blushed, looking to the side. I grinned evilly and got an amazing idea.

"Ne, Jaycee, my beloved daughter," I said sweetly. "Would you care to sing your favorite song for us?"

She looked at me, confused for a second. After a moment, she got a look of realization on her face. "Of course, Mommy!" she giggled deviously. "But then YOU have to sing YOUR favorite one after!"

"Oh, alright, alright," I said, chuckling and ruffling her hair. She scowled cutely at me as she fixed her hair and scrolled through the songs till she got to her absolute favorite. The instrumental played, and then she sang.

"On the night when the cold sound of rain
Echoes outside of the window, being alone is scary
So that we don't become apart
I hug you firmly . . ."

As she sang the rest of Miku Hatsune's 'Dark Alice,' her entire being went into the song and she swayed to the music. The song suited her, for she had a bit of a dark past as well, and a darkness inside her that only I could really understand, since I housed a similar one in my own heart. The song ended and she smiled as everyone clapped; I couldn't help but notice that Mitsukuni seemed to look thoughtful, intrigued, and compassionate all at once.

Oh boy . . . he's in total 'adult' mode now, I thought to myself with a mental chuckle.

"That's mah bebeh!" I said, hugging her. I let her go, then pursed my lips in thought. "I think I'm going to tone it down now," I said, grabbing the mic and rifling through the song list. "I'm in a mellow mood and I wanna sing somethin' chill and emotional."

When Gabby saw the song I was doing, she grabbed the electric guitar and joined me. "You know I love this song, too," she said, giving me a small smile.

"Mmm. I know," I said, giving her a small smile in return. The song started, and Gabby did the intro. Then, I sang.

"I see nothing in your eyes;
And the more I see the less I like.
Is it over yet
In my head~ . . . ?"

"I know nothing of your kind;
And I won't reveal your evil mind.
Is it over yet?
I can't win~ . . ."

"So sacrifice yourself
And let me have what's left!
I know that I can find
The fire in your eyes.
I'm going all the way,
Get away, please . . ."

"You take the breath right out of me~!
You left a hole where my heart should be . . .
You gotta fight just to make it through;
'Cause I will be the death of you~ . . ."

"This will be all over soon.
Pour salt into the open wound.
Is it over yet?
Let me in~ . . ."

"So sacrifice yourself
And let me have what's left!
I know that I can find
The fire in your eyes.
I'm going all the way,
Get away, please~ . . ."

"You take the breath right out of me!
You left a hole where my heart should be . . .
You gotta fight just to make it through;
'Cause I will be the death of you~!"

"I'm waiting, I'm praying~
Realize, start hiding!"

"You take the breath right out of me~!
You left a hole where my heart should be~ . . .
You gotta fight just to make it through;
'Cause I will be the death of you~ . . ."

~ a few minutes earlier, Takashi P.o.V ~

"I think I'm going to tone it down now," said Gwenivere, grabbing the mic and rifling through the song list. "I'm in a mellow mood and I wanna sing somethin' chill and emotional."

This piqued my interest; so far, she'd only been singing songs that were, uh . . . erm, well . . . Risque . . .

I banished the memory and saw that one of the short ones, Gabby, had grabbed the electric guitar.

"You know I love this song, too," she said, a small smile on her face as she looked at Gwen. It seemed almost bittersweet.

"Mmm. Yeah, I know," said Gwenivere, giving her a smile of her own; her's was bittersweet as well, and I became concerned. From what I'd gathered about the red-head, she communicated her unspoken feelings through singing, aside from her artwork.

She began singing after Gabby played the first introductory chords. Already, she was getting into the song immensely, her whole body flowing with the sound. Her voice was filled with emotion . . . Anger, sadness, vengeance, and even fear. When she got into the chorus the second time, I'd noticed that a few tears were falling down her face. By the time she had finished, more had fallen. She opened her eyes, having closed them on the last note, and touched her face in surprise.

"O-oh . . . oh geez," she said, turning pink. "This isn't embarrassing, not at all . . ."

I frowned a bit and handed her a tissue when she sat next to me on her giant couch. She gave me a slightly shaky smile in thanks as she took it. I watched her dab her eyes and then she just looked off into space. Now, I wasn't one to interrupt someone when they're thinking, but I just had to this one time.

". . . Are you alright?" I asked quietly.

She jumped a bit at the sound of my voice, but then gave me a smile as Tamaki went up to sing. "Y-yeah, totally."

"Gwenivere."

". . . Okay, I'm not," she admitted. She looked at the door, then back to me. "Come with me," she murmured.

She stood and I followed her. She led me to her room and sat down on her bed. "You can close the door if you wanna."

I closed it, but left it open just a tiny bit. I sat next to her and she folded her hands in her lap, looking down at them. We were silent for a bit, but then she spoke.

"That song . . ."

"Yes?" I asked gently.

". . . It suits me so well . . . you have no idea . . ."

More tears came out of her eyes, sparkling slightly in the dim light from the nearly full moon outside. I frowned and wiped them away without even realizing I was doing so until my hand was on her cheek. I vaguely marveled at how soft her skin was as she looked up at me.

"I . . . I used to have a boyfriend," she began, her voice quiet. "We were together for around 8 months; he was the first significant other I'd ever had. One day, he and I were getting pretty, uh, cozy, and I wasn't really ready for that yet, so I asked him to not go further. He asked why, and because I felt I could trust him, I told him the gist of what happened. Not everything, exactly, but enough for him to be able to guess."

"And you wanna know what he said?" she asked in a whisper.

I didn't dare to ask, but I felt I had to. "What happened?"

She let out a bitter laugh. "He fucking said the worst thing to say to anyone who went through what I did: he said it was my own damn fault."

I gripped the comforter on her bed till my knuckles were white, and I tried to focus on keeping calm. How DARE he say that to her?! I thought to myself. He is so lucky he is in America, or else I'd teach him some manners . . .

Gwenivere continued. "And then I slapped him, of course, because who wouldn't? I told him that he had no right to say that, and that it was that fuckass, dickwaffle's fault, not mine. Then . . ." she trailed off, her tone bitter and resentful. She took a deep breath, then went on. "Then he blew up at me, saying that it was my fault because I left myself open to his advances, and that I was a weak, powerless girl. And then he also called me a whore, because another male had touched me; he sad he didn't want 'damaged goods', as if I was some sort of fucking car or something!"

She shuddered, standing up and pacing. "That asshole . . . I don't know how i ever fell for any of his fake promises and all that shit . . . All he wanted was to get into my pants, then leave me laying on the cold, hard ground. Well," she said, stopping and standing proud, a chilling smile on her face, "I wasn't going to put up with that, of course. So, I dumped his bitch ass, took up kendo, and then after some very vigorous and heavy training, I decided to pay him a little visit~ . . ."

I felt myself smirk, but I couldn't deny that her anger was as scary as Mitsukuni's. "I'm guessing you leveled him?" I asked.

She grinned like a devilish cat. "Oh, sweetheart, you don't even want to know what I did to him~ . . . But I'll tell you anyways," she said, giggling. "Okay, so, I gave him this little typed up note saying that it was from a 'secret admirer,' and being the egotistical bitch he is, he fell for it and met me in the football field right out back of the school. Now, a lot of the school's windows face the football field, so keep that in mind."

"So, I met him in the middle, and he gave me this disgusted look and asked me what the hell I was doing here, and I just laughed. 'Now now, Raphael, no need to get pissy,' I said. 'I just came to give you your last gift from me.' And then he actually looked interested and asked what it was, and then I totally grinned, took out my shinai, and started beating the shit out of him."

"Now, before this all started, I sent out a mass e-mail to everyone in school, explaining that he'd been an ass to me and said it was my own fault I got abused and shit; I also put in it to look out the back windows during break. So everyone in that school was looking out the windows, seeing him being beaten up by a girl a foot shorter than him, and less physically intimidating."

She flopped down on her back on her bed, taking her spot next to me again. She gave a happy sigh and smiled. "That was a good day . . . Got my ass in trouble BIG TIME by the principle, but she only gave me a week of out of school suspension, since she loved me so much. After school, though, she waved me over from her car and showed me that she'd taken pics of me kicking his ass and totally got a good laugh out of it."

I chuckled. "So, the song is pretty much how you felt about the situation?"

She sighed once more, her face growing thoughtful. "Yes, in a way. He seemed like he'd left a hole where my heart used to be when he said what he said, and he took my breath away from me with his insults. I waited and prayed that he would get what he deserved, and I certainly seemed like I was the death of him. I beat him until he was unconscious. Then I drew on his face with a Sharpie; made him look like he had a unibrow, a Hitler 'stache, and I wrote 'I have Bieber Fever' on his forehead."

"Wow." I was surprised; she must be a strong fighter to be able to beat someone unconscious . . . "And wait . . . 'Bieber Fever'?" I felt my lips curl into a grin.

She laughed, covering her mouth to muffle the sound. "Fuck yeah! That's the worst thing anyone in America can do to someone: accuse them of having Bieber Fever. He was so pissed~! I loved it~!"

She then sat up and grinned at me, her wide green eyes boring into me. "You know," she said, "you're really easy to talk to, Takashi-senpai. It seems like I knew you before I knew you; sounds weird, yeah, but it's true. You're pretty damn awesome; Mitsukuni-senpai is lucky to have you."

Before I could respond, she gave me a tight hug, her breasts pressing against my arm. I felt my thighs twitch and I tried to focus on breathing. She let me go, then stood quickly.

"Weeell, I dunno about you, but it's gettin' late," she said, opening her door. She glanced back at me with a grin. "I think y'all might want to head home and get homework done and all that. And . . . thank you. For listening to me vent and work out all of my feels."

And with a light swing in her hips, she walked out, me following her seconds later. And as hard as I tried not to, I couldn't help watching the way her hips swayed with every step she took.

God dammit, get a hold of yourself, I scolded internally. Don't think about it don't think about it don't think about it . . . Shit. I'm thinking about it . . .

I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. I really need to stop being a pervert . . .
