A/N: Went scuba diving…scared the hell out of me…I'm still shuddering from the fish…anyhow! New chapter for you, hope you enjoy.
Casey nervously gnaws on her bottom lip as she makes her way up the stone walkway to the home. She takes a deep breath and runs everything through her mind once again before she lifts her hand and rings the doorbell. After only a few short moments of waiting, the door is opened and she is greeted with a tiny look of confusion.
"Casey?" George questions curiously as eyes the attorney with minimal confusion. "This is a surprise. What can I do for you?"
"I was wondering if I could speak with you about something." She responds with firmness in her voice and a confident nod.
"Yes of course. Please come in." George answers with a respective nod as he opens the door wide enough for the redhead to enter.
Casey proceeds into the living room area where she remains standing and turns around once George has followed her. "I apologize for dropping by unannounced like this."
George shakes his head before her holds his hand out towards the sofa. "It's really no problem at all, please, have a seat." He instructs, taking a seat on the sofa as well before folding his hands in his lap. "So what is it that you wanted to talk about?"
"I wanted to talk to you about Alex, actually…."
"About Alex? Well, alright. Is she in trouble?"
"Well, no sir…" Casey responds, biting down on her bottom lip before she looks up, barely managing to make eye contact with the man across from her. "George, were you at all aware that your brother is strung out on drugs?"
At this, George takes up kind of a defensive posture as he eyes to attorney with genuine suspicion. "What does my brother have to do with anything?" he speaks tersely before his eyes narrow slightly. "And what business is it of yours?"
"Ah, so you do know." Casey responds with a head nod as she manages to keep eye contact with George's questioning gaze. "And as an ex-police officer, I'm sure that you are quite familiar with his several run ins with the law. But he's your brother, so that means you would do anything to help him. Including cover for him and even lie about his whereabouts the night of a murder."
"I have never done such a thing." the former officer replies, though his face is beginning to turn red with slight anger and frustration. "You are very out of line Miss Novak."
"Am I?" Casey responds with a seemingly inquisitive tilt of her head; a look that she uses on so many occasions to throw off defendants whenever she's in court. "Am I out of line? I'm not the one who let my brother get away with the murder of an innocent woman. The murder of an innocent woman who gave birth to my child."
At this, George exhales heavily and leans forward to bury his face into his hands. After a moment of feeling Casey's eyes bore into him like hot coals, he sits up and sits back against the cushions of the sofa, regaining the eye contact that was lost on his part. "Have you told her?"
"I want to." Casey responds as her eyes narrow in a scrutinizing gaze. "God knows I wanted to as soon as I found out, but I don't believe it's my place to tell her. I didn't come here to make some kind of deal with you, because I feel like that's the last thing you deserve. I came here to find out why you did what you did, and why you're continuing to lie about it."
"I didn't think that things would turn out this way. I hate myself for what I did, and I pray daily that I could go back in time and take it back." George begins with sincerity in his eyes. "Erin and I were young and stupid; usually the start to all of these kinds of stories. We were in high school and mistakes just happen. I didn't have an interest of being with her and after I found out she was pregnant, I really didn't want to have anything to do with her, so I just walked away. I had a life to live you know? I was making good grades, top of my sports game, I had everything going for me and I didn't need a baby to tie me down. Well, Erin dropped out, I graduated in the top ten percent of my class and I didn't have anything to worry about. After graduating I joined the force and the rest goes from there. This next part, I don't know why I did it, God, I don't know. I ask myself every single day the same question, but I just don't know. My brother, Tommy, he was always troubled; high, strung out, drunk, anything you can imagine, that was Tommy. It was some nine years later that he asked me about 'the broad I screwed in high school'. I didn't think anything of it, so I told him about Erin. I didn't think anything was gonna happen from it and I didn't think to ask why he was asking. The next thing I know is he's stumbling in at an ungodly hour, drunk and high as usual, saying things like 'I took care of the bitch. You ain't gotta worry about it anymore Georgie.' I didn't know what he was talking about, but when I saw the news and they found Erin's body, it scared the hell out of me. I couldn't let Tommy take the fall for that; hell, he was halfway out of his mind, so I covered for him."
"That's when you found out about Alex…"
"I didn't know Erin had kept the kid. Knowing Erin I seriously thought she would get an abortion. At the time, I thought that would've been the smart thing for her to do. I wasn't gonna step up and claim to be the father; I had a life and at the time I felt like a kid would ruin what I had going. I found out they were putting the kid in foster care and even though I was gonna step up as the father, I kept tabs on her anyway. It was around six years after that, that I caught Alex shoplifting from a convenience store. Ever since then, I kept in contact with her, just to check up on her. I guess in a way it was my way of telling her that I'm sorry."
Casey is silent for a long moment as a frown plays at her face. "You basically sent your brother to kill her mother." She comments, her voice a low and deathly form of a growl. "Her mother was all she had and it's because of you, her deadbeat father, that she's dead."
By now, George actually has tears in his eyes and he leans forwards once again to bury his shameful face in his hands. "I didn't mean for anything to happen like it did, but after it happened, I felt so bad that I couldn't take it back."
"I have grounds to turn you in for conspiracy and an accessory to murder." Casey speaks firmly, letting her words sink in before she continues on. "But I'm not. Because you deserve to sit here and wallow in your guilt. Your brother however, will be charged for all of his crimes."
"How did you find him?"
"A gruesome series of rape and murder cases came across my desk. I remember at dinner you mentioned your brother 'Thomas' and the date to a specific murder on his filed dated to when Alex would have been approximately nine years old. The file stated that the charges to the murder were dropped and I had assumed that to be your doing considering you were a member of the force at the time."
George looks up in horror at his brother's crimes before he shakes his head in disbelief. "I just can't believe Tommy fell so low." He whispers. "What's gonna happen to him?"
"What should have happened to him the night he killed your daughter's mother." The redhead spits venomously as she stands up from her spot on the sofa. "I trust that our discussion today has left you with quite a bit to think about. But keep in mind, that if you ever hurt Alex in any way, I will waste no time in bringing you down from your high strung pedestal that you have built for yourself."
"We should really start doing something soon." Kim states as she attempts to get off of the couch, rolling her eyes when she is abruptly pulled back down onto the cushions right before she tilts her head back in a whine. "Serenaaa…."
This time, it's Serena who rolls her eyes as she straddles the other woman's thighs, keeping her in place. "Only you would choose to start cooking early over making out on the couch with your insanely sexy girlfriend." She tuts, smirking when she sees that Kim's gaze is now drawn to the swell of her breasts. 'I've found her weakness.'
Kim blinks rapidly before she is drawn back to reality and she leans back against the sofa. "I'm not saying I don't want to engage in…you know…but don't you think it would be appropriate if we started a little early? That way it won't take forever?"
"We're making spaghetti Kimberly, that can't possibly take too long." The blonde replies with a sigh before shifting her weight a little, causing Kim to stiffen. "Besides, that's what Alex and Casey are for. Best friends help each other cook dinner, then best friends eat the dinner, then best friends watch movies together. Plus, Alex and Casey are supposed to be bringing supplies anyway, so it's not like we can start anyway."
"I just hate doing things last minute." Kim huffs, her face briefly resembling that of a small child who was just told that she can't have her way.
"It's not last minute. Besides, I did give you an alternative to something we can do to pass the time a little."
"What's that?...Oh…you mean…oh…"
"Mhm…" Serena hums before claiming the brunette's lips in a warm kiss. Being completely honest with herself, dating Kim is a completely new experience for her; translating to, Kim is unlike anyone she's ever dated before. The brunette constantly cowers behind her icy façade and she is so literal, that she often doesn't pick up on jokes and innuendos all too well; not to mention she is extremely awkward when it comes to lovemaking, despite her…abilities and performance in the bedroom.
But fortunately for Serena, she knows exactly how to get under Kim's skin, which can often lead them to their current predicament of making out on the sofa like a couple of horny teenagers at a drive in movie. That is until the loud banging on the front door draws them apart.
"Serena?" Kim pants, blinking rapidly as a blush covers her cheeks. "There's…there's someone at the door."
"Mhm I believe there is," the blonde hums in response as her heavy lidded eyes blink slowly in response.
"I need to get up…to answer it."
"Oh…right…"
Kim clears her throat awkwardly and runs her hands through her tousled hair as she makes her way over to the front door. She pulls the door open and her heart sinks drastically at the amount of teasing that is about to take place.
Alex holds up the two grocery bags in her hands as she quirks a suspicious eyebrow. "I've been banging on the door for the past seven minutes!" she exclaims, before taking in the flustered appearance of her friend. "Was I…interrupting?"
"No…" Kim murmurs in response as she steps to the side and allows Alex into her home.
"You sure?" Alex calls back with a smirk as she steps into the living room to spot Serena perched on the couch, fixing her makeup. "Hey Serena."
"Hello Alex." The older blonde responds with a grin and a wink before turning her attention back to her compact mirror. "Is Casey not with you?"
"No, she and I came separately because she had an errand to run before she got here." The officer responds before holding up the bags. "I brought the garlic bread and stuff for the sauce. Casey should be bringing the stuff for the salad."
Serena finishes her makeup and grins as she stands from the couch. "Excellent. Here, let me gets those bags and take them into the kitchen." She chirps, sending Kim a wink before she takes the bag and saunters into the kitchen.
Alex smirks before turning to her beet red friend. "I was totally interrupting something."
Kim rolls her eyes and is about to attempt to come up with a retort when there is another haste knock at her front door. She grunts irritably all the way to the door where she pulls it open to find an expectant Casey on the other side. "Finally…"
"I'm not late, am I?" the redhead responds as she proceeds into the apartment looking at her watch.
"No, but I felt like I was outnumbered." Kim murmurs as she folds her arms across her chest, her eyes narrowing in that all too usual 'Kim' way over hers.
Casey chuckles quietly before turning to Alex and seizing her lips in a brief kiss. "Hi, Baby."
Alex grins into the kiss and places her hands on Casey's hips, pulling her closer. "Mmm, I've missed that." she hums, before returning with a series of kisses.
"Groooosssss, get a room." Serena calls out drawing the attention of the two lovebirds.
"Oh stop, I'm sure you and Kim are just as bad." Casey retorts with a glare.
"Nope, because Kim doesn't believe in PDA. You know how much of a prude she is." Serena responds with a grin.
"Sure, gang up on me in my own house why don't you…" Kim mumbles to herself. "Are we gonna start cooking or what?"
As Kim and Serena disappear into the kitchen, Casey goes to follow but she feels a small tug on her hand and she turns around to be met with curious blue eyes. "What's up?"
"Are you alright?" Alex asks curiously, analyzing her lover. "You seem a little tense."
Casey falters for a split second before she recovers and briskly shakes her head. "Tense? No, no, I'm fine. Just a little…you know. It's nothing to worry about."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah…yeah I'm sure."
