Author's Notes (10 March 2015):
Sooooo I suck as an author. I know. Insert awful excuse here about busy life.
I am unashamed to admit I rock out to Taylor Swift. If that's wrong I don't want to be right. As usual, I was listening to the song and had a quick 'what-if' scene hit me. I don't know how clear this one is – I'll include a snippet at the bottom with what I was going for just in case. It'll be low enough that if you, my dear readers, are not interested, you can avoid it. See you at the bottom!
(As an aside: is anybody else struggling with getting notifications from the site? My e-mails about private messages or new reviews are sporadic…)
He said, "What you heard is true, but I
Can't stop thinking about you, and I –"
I said, "I've been there too, a few times…"
'Cause you've got that "James Dean daydream" look in your eyes,
And I've got that red-lip "classic" thing that you like -
And when we go crashing down, we come back every time…
("Style", Taylor Swift)
"God, Yui, don't stop –"
"Shhh, Tetsuya's in the next room..."
"Fuck him!" A beat. "Well, not literally…"
Weak laughter, half amusement, half sob, evaporating into a soft intake of breath. Hands on skin, skin on skin, violet eyes on blue. The heat, the incredible friction was cooling, and she shook her head, pulling back.
"Subo, we can't keep meeting like this."
"I know." The sentence was said simply, a statement of fact.
"I mean it, Subo. I…Tetsuya's very dear to me –"
"But do you love him?"
She was silent, the pause pregnant before she spoke again. "Of course I do."
Shaking his head with a tiny, sad smile, Suboshi stepped back, shadows obscuring all but his eyes. "I love you too, you know."
She reached for him, and woke with a hand outstretched to the dark ceiling, a tight coil of want still settled in her belly even as his hot eyes faded from her mind's eye. On her bedside table, the bright electronic glare of a cell phone lit up:

TETSUYA
Luv u bby sleep well c u tmrw.
UNKNOWN
One day you'll have to choose one of us, you know.
((The intent above is that Yui still struggles in her heart over loving Suboshi. Even though he's gone and she's happily in love with Tetsuya, the memories of Suboshi and of emotion they shared are enough to pull her back to Suboshi each time, despite herself. They orbit each other, both unable to break free and not sure if they really want to or can. I tried to leave it semi-ambiguous as to whether Yui is really cheating on Tetsuya or if she's just having vivid dreams of Suboshi; the text from Unknown could be read as a real text or something that her sleepy brain imagined.))
