Chapter 14

Planting Old Treasures

Nemo dashed around the grotto, hiding anything he saw outside the grotto where Ariel had once found it. Once he had placed the last thing in its original spot he smiled and swam back to the grotto. All that was left was an old brown boot and the blue ring attached to the leather strap. He hid the ring under the sand just under the small rock in the grotto. He then took the boot and swam off, soon to meet Ariel.

Chapter 15

Finding old things

Ariel reached the coral where she had met the little fish earlier that day. She waited for what seemed like hours. Just as she was about to give up the little fish popped up to greet her.

"Hello Ariel!"

Ariel placed her hand on her beating heart and breathed in deeply. "Oh Poseidon, you scared me," she said with a smile. The little fish smiled back. Ariel sighed and placed her hands on her waist fins, "right, seems to be you know my name but I don't know yours."

The little fish blushed a little, "sorry, my name's Nemo" he said.

Ariel thought for a moment, "your name sounds familiar," she said pointing a slim finger at the orange and white fish.

Nemo nodded in agreement, "yes, we knew each other from Flounder." Ariel wished to cry at her lost friend's name, but for some reason she didn't. Something was keeping her from crying but she didn't know what. "Except I had more fish guts then Flounder," Nemo smiled. "Do you remember?"

"Remember what?"

"How we used to go looking for things," Nemo smiled again.

Ariel was confused, "what kind of things?"

Nemo frowned, "you don't remember?" Ariel shook her head in dismay. Nemo sighed, "well that's sad, I'm sure Flounder would never had let you forget."

"Forget what?" Ariel asked confused, but Nemo only turn his back and told Ariel to follow him, she did. They swam over different type of coral and sand dunes until they reached the kelp forest. Ariel played with her hands nervously, "I'm not supposed to be here," she said as she watched the towering kelp say in the ocean.

"What? Are you kidding me? You and Flounder used to come here all the time," Nemo said as he turned to her.

Ariel thought for a moment, trying to remember Flounder and herself coming here in the past, she couldn't. She shook her head, "no, we didn't and if we did I would remember." There was silence between her and Nemo. Nemo mumbled something Ariel didn't quite hear. Ariel sighed, "I should go home," she said as she turned to leave. As she turned, Nemo dashed into the kelp forest. "Nemo!?" Ariel called after him. There was no reply for a long time and when he did, he sounded panicked.

"Ariel!" He shrieked. That's all it took for Ariel to dive after her terrified friend. She dodged the kelp that was lashing out at her. Her tail seemed to come alive on its own as it steered her through the kelp swiftly. She reached Nemo in no time. She was surprised she wasn't out of breath, she hadn't swum that fast since she had woken up. But she didn't worry about it. She was more worried about Nemo tangled up in some kelp. "Oh Nemo are you alright?" She asked as she pulled the little fish from the kelp's grasp. She could feel his fast tiny heart beat in her hands.

"Hey you're in the forest," Nemo noticed once he was swimming again. Ariel looked around her feeling surprised and pleased with herself.

"I am!" she cried happily. She did something she didn't know she could do. She back flipped in the water laughing she turned to Nemo wild eyed. "I didn't know I could do that!" Ariel's smile spread across her face making her cheeks saw. Front the corner of her eye she saw something she swam to it. It was brown and sort of big. Half on the strange thing was poking up from the sand. Ariel lay on the sand beside the strange thing looking at it.

"What is it?" Nemo asked as he swam beside her.

"I don't know," Ariel said as reached her hand out curiously taking the object from the sand. She sat up placing the brown thing in her lap. She lifted it up to examine it, "it's so beautiful," she said with a smile, "I wonder what it is?"

"It's a human thing Ariel! We should leave it!" Nemo said worriedly and started to swim away, but Ariel caught his tail before he could escape.

"Don't tell anyone this, but I think my father is wrong about humans," she admitted looking at the human thing in her hands.

"Your father? The king? Wrong? Pfft!" Nemo said rolling his eyes.

Ariel turned to him, "it's true Nemo, not all humans are bad." For a moment Ariel thought she said that somewhere else before. With her back turned to Nemo's she didn't see the smile spread across Nemo's face.

"Alright then, lets hide it." Nemo said.

Ariel lifted herself from the sand and hugged the object close to her chest, "but where?"

"Think of a place, somewhere far from the castle. Near the edge of the kelp forest." Nemo said giving off hints about the grotto nearby.

Ariel thought for a moment, "come on, let's swim around a bit."

They tried many places, but each place they went to neither of them agreed with the place. Finally Ariel gave up and sat in front of a huge rock resting the human object in her lap. "What are we going to do then? I can't take it back to the palace," Ariel huffed. A light flittered in Ariel's eyes. "What?" Ariel said puzzled looking up. There was something bright floating in the water. Curious, Ariel let the boot fall to the ocean floor and swam to the surface. She studied the other human thing that floated on the surface. As she reached for it something also grabbed a hold of it and raised Ariel out of the water a little. The light off the moon shone in Ariel's eyes. Using her free hand she blocked most of the light from her eyes. She heard a squawk then her name.

"Ariel?" a strange but familiar voice asked. Whatever had a hold of the object let go of it and dropped Ariel's arm. Ariel's vision cleared and she saw a white animal hovering in the air.

"What are you?" She found herself asking. The creature looked at her funny then folded its arms-thingies and floated on the water.

"Why I am a seagull dummy, what happen to ya? Don't you remember your ol' friend Scuttle?" The seagull said with a smile.

"Scuttle? . . . I can't remember" Ariel said softly with a woeful look. Scuttle slouched woefully.

"What have they done to you sweetie?" he asked her woefully.

"How do you know me?" Ariel asked she had ignored the creatures question for her own. Scuttle lifted himself a little in the water.

"Why, you were after that cup, but I got it before you. That's how we met, after that you asked me all about human things. After you left I realised I was mistaken with a lot of human things, but I guess you know that by now. Anyway, I saw your cup and I thought 'why was it here' and when I reach for it I found you with it," Scuttle smiled, "just like we met huh?"

Ariel lifted the cup out of the water looking at it. "I guess so, but I don't remember you. I wonder why that is?" There was a pause before Ariel spoke again, "I must have gotten really bad amnesia after that human killed my sister and my friends-"

"What?" Scuttle asked but Ariel didn't seem to hear his question.

"But I'm glad we met again," she looked at the golden cup, "so this is a cup." She said her eyes dazzling. She turned to Scuttle, "wait here," she said before leaving the cup floating in the ocean to retrieve the other human object she had found. She broke the water again carrying the brown object. She raised it so scuttle could see it. "What is this? I found it in the kelp forest," she asked with a smile of curiosity. Scuttle scratched his head then snapped his feathers together, making a clicking sound.

"That is a boot, humans use it to walk around on there-"

"feet," Ariel finished smiling.

"Yeah that's right!" Scuttle said happily. Ariel placed the boot underwater again.

"Do you know a place where I could put the stuff I find?" she asked hopefully. Scuttle looked at her puzzled.

"You must have bad amnesia, there's a cave right underneath you." Scuttle jumped out of the water, the wind catching his wings. "I gotta go sweetie, I'll see you soon!" He said as he flew off.

Ariel waved after him, "goodbye scuttle!" She then dove back under the waves to meet Nemo. "You should have come up Nemo, he was very nice," Ariel said as she placed the boot and cup beside each other.

"No that's alright," Nemo said as he watched her. "So what did you talk about?"

Ariel shrugged, "nothing much, I asked him if there was a place I could hide the human things, he said there was a cave underneath me," she looked around, "but I don't see any caves," she said in dismay.

"Maybe we should move that bolder there, it could be in the way of the cave," Nemo said as he swam in front of the bolder.

Ariel shrugged, "we could try," she said and heaved the bolder out of the way. She smiled at Nemo, "you were right Nemo!" She said as she peered into the now revealed cave. She grabbed the boot and cup and swam inside. "Come on Nemo, let's check it out!" she called out behind her.

Nemo smiled, "job well done Nemo," he said to himself as he followed behind her. The full moon light lit the old grotto nicely. The red head was swimming around in excitement as she placed her 'first' human objects in their place. Nemo smiled as he saw Ariel put the objects in the exact same place he had taken them from. The grotto's walls were empty now but Nemo knew in no time it will be restored to its original self.

Ariel twirled around the grotto, "it's magnificent, don't you think?" She asked Nemo blissfully.

Nemo smiled "yes it is." Ariel played with the laces of the boot.

"We should go find more human things," she said with a smile. Nemo smiled.

"Alright let's do it."

Ariel smiled, "yeah, let's hope you're not so much of a guppy like Flounder, he didn't like my adventures for human things."

Nemo's smile dropped "what?"

Ariel looked up with a blank look, "huh?-oh I should go home, meet at the grotto at noon tomorrow?"

Nemo smiled "yeah sure." Ariel smiled and pecked Nemo on the cheek.

"Thanks Nemo," she said before she left. Nemo smiled at her before he swam to the rock in the middle of the grotto where he hid the ring. He dug it up alongside with a small pearl. Nemo rubbed the pearl three times. A small bubble appeared above it growing bigger as an image of Attina stood in it.

"Hello Attina," Nemo said testing the bubbled communication. On the other end Attina jumped and reached for a pearl that was in her pocket.

"Nemo? You scared me, any good news?" she asked with a small laugh.

Nemo nodded, "yes very good. I cleared the grotto, liked you asked, and hid them where they were originally before Ariel found them. Then I took Ariel to the kelp forest where she found her first human object, the boot. After that we swam around and she met Scuttle then we found her old grotto and the best thing is to come!"

Attina smiled, "what is it Nemo?"

"She placed the objects in the exact same place I had taken them from, and she said before she left how Flounder was such a guppy when she took him on their adventures," Nemo said excitedly.

Attina smiled pleased. "I am not a guppy!" a voice thundered in the background. Attina rolled her eyes at Flounder before she turned back to Nemo.

"Did she say anything else?"

Nemo's smile dropped, "no, when I asked her what she meant she looked like she was in a dream and then left." Attina's smile tightened.

"Alright Nemo keep up the work, we are on our way. Plan B will be activated once we have landed."

Nemo nodded in understanding, "oh do you want the ring to be the last thing she finds?"

Attina nodded, "yes, hopefully by then she gets her memory back."

Nemo nodded in agreement, "alright over and out," he said as he popped the bubble.
