These next few chapters will be sub-plot.
I said I wouldn't update but… It's Memorial Day. Why not?
A few days earlier
Wendy stood in front of the double door to the throne room. The guards on the sides were about to open the doors but a voice called for them to stop. They turned and saw a dark green haired man. "You must be Ms. Marvel. Please come with me, His Highness does not wish to meet with you in such a formal setting. I hope you can understand." The man said. She just nods and follows him, with her guard following close behind her.
They made it to an office, it looked like the man's. "Forgive me, where are my manners. I am Belserion, the Sage Dragon." He smiled at her and she bowed her head respectfully. "Lord Belserion. Thank you, and to the King and Queen as well, for your hospitality." He laughed at the words but nods all the same.
"No need for such formalities with me, Miss Marvel. However I do need to speak to you about the King and your role with this years' Tournament." Belserion sat down in the chair that was behind the desk, facing the door. Wendy sat in the chair opposite of him, her back to the door. She was nervous to compete, the girl had heard stories about the different Trials and the Tournament itself from the other Dragon Slayers in her guild. He started explaining and apologizing.
"Ms. Marvel, I apologize with how the King needed to retrieve you. He wished to speak to you about the upcoming Trials and Tournament. You will be partaking this year." Wendy's head was deep in thought, but she nods and he is about to explain but a knock sounded.
The green haired man waved his hand and the door unlocked. In walked a man with light blue, black and silver hair blending together, with blue markings on his arms. Wendy was terrified of the man, she sunk down low to the ground and whispered, "Your Highness." Her head and eyes were down.
"Lord Belserion, I hear the Queen is looking for you." Lord Belserion bowed to his King and left the man and girl alone. "I'm sorry for scaring you when I took you away from that misplaced world." The King almost sounded regretful. Wendy still remained on the floor, he bent down to her level so he wouldn't be towering over the poor girl.
Wendy gasped as she felt her chin lightly turn upward to face the King. "Your Hi –" His finger brushed her lips and silenced her. She was beyond confused. "Please, I just want to see you, I want to talk with you without any formalities. Let me have that." His green eyes were kind, but to see the dragon behind Tenrou Island's attack be kind to her was concerning.
A short knock went through the room and Acnologia turned to the door, his eyes flashing red for a moment. "What?" He asked sharply. Wendy whimpered and shrunk back but with his hand still gripping her chin she couldn't move. He let her go and watched as she bolted to the other side of the room, in the darkest corner. He sighed at his missed chance but knew he would have to work very hard to get through to her.
"Yes?" He stood and a maid entered, she was nervous to interrupt the King and the Lady but she needed to deliver this message. "Your Highness, the Celestial Queen and the Zodiac King are here to witness the Trials and Tournament. The Celestial Queen wishes a word with you when you are finished with your current business." He nods at the young girl, watching her as she spots Wendy hiding. "I will take my leave." The maid had told him softly.
He pinched the bridge of his nose and looked to the small girl in the corner again. "Please escort Lady Wendy to the gardens, she might be more comfortable down there. Lady Wendy I hope to see you at dinner later. Goodbye."
He left without a glance back, so he missed the shocked expression on her face. She had no idea what her King was thinking but she uttered a small, "Thank you," as the large man went out of the office.
After Lord Belserion left the Slayers and the other Mages of Fiore they left together to try and figure out a way home and a way around the prophecy that was directed towards Wendy. Gajeel, Levy and Juvia had left soon after but Levy wanted to take Pantherlily with them, so he would get a chance to help his Slayer.
Natsu and Lucy also went around the school and courtyard. They had to have a much needed discussion. "Natsu, I need to know. What happened back there, you were like a different person." She was concerned about the man she had fallen in love with, even if he was completely clueless. "Wendy… She is with Acnologia in the Dragon Capital. The only reason she is there is to compete in the Trials and Tournament but that isn't all there is to it. She has been there since Umbridge forced her to go to the Ministry."
"Why is Acnologia in the middle of all this? Why is Wendy?" She asked him, wanting to know everything. "You know I am the Son of Igneel." She nods but she doesn't get to ask questions, as he continues with his explanation. "As you know he is the Fire Dragon King, and with me being his first son, that means I am also his heir. I am Dragon Royalty. That means there are things that are expected of me, even if I don't like them. I still need to follow them, as does my Mate. She and I, when we come of age, will have to be Mated or at least married in the human sense."
She gaped at him. "Acnologia is our King, as much as I despise him, as much as all of the Slayers despise him we cannot do anything against him. He can and will kill us if we retaliate. That is why Gajeel and I couldn't do anything when Umbridge told us about him taking Wendy. What we can do is follow Lord Belserion's advice, to watch the Trials and Tournament. Wendy and Draco are both competing, as are four Champions from each of the Elemental Kingdoms. I had already sent the four names of the Fire Kingdom to the King and Queen before the Games started."
"Natsu you are skipping around. What does Acnologia have to do with you being Dragon Royalty and what about your Mate that you are talking about. How she and you had to… Mate or marry when you and she come of age?" Lucy didn't understand what he was saying but one thing she caught on to was that Natsu was telling her something very important about himself and what he was.
"You are my Mate, Lucy. Just as Levy is Gajeel's." He looked into her face, taking in every small expression running through her eyes and face. Shocked didn't begin to explain how Lucy felt, she was shaking. Natsu saw this and went to comfort his Mate but she slapped his hand away and looked at him with anger and hate in her eyes. "My father tried and tried to sell me off when I was younger. You will not do the same, Natsu Dragneel. I am a human being, a living thing, not some doll to be tossed around!" She ran away from his calls, ignoring all of them and searching for a friend.
Lucy ran through the halls of Hogwarts and ended up with Cana. Her partner for the S-Class Trials listened to her as she explained what Natsu wanted her to do. "He will become just like my father! I don't want a husband who just wishes to flaunt me to other Royals. I don't want that life and Natsu knows that, but that's just what will happen. I can't refuse him, if he really is Igneel's first born then his Mate will become the Queen Consort of the Fire King. I can't be that person." She cried into the brunette.
"Shh, Lucy I doubt Natsu would do that against your will, more than that… Do you really think that Loke or the other Zodiacs would ever let you be taken to a place you hate by force? We both know that that perverted Lion would go to the ends of Earth-land to make sure you were safe." She smiled as the blonde cracked a grateful smile herself.
"Th- Thanks Cana. I really needed that. I know Natsu would never do that but with all that's happening it's all too much. We have no idea how to get home, why Acnologia wants Wendy or Draco beside that they need to compete in a Tournament. Natsu and Gajeel are hiding so much from us that it feels like we barely know them." "That's because we do barely know them. They keep their power and heritage to themselves for a reason. None of the Dragon Slayers I've met have ever been fully open with what they can do. Not even Wendy, who is the youngest of them."
"How about we go to the library to see what the other girls have come up with for that prophecy of Wendy's, hmm?" She asked gently. Lucy took her hand and got up from the bed, she and Cana had sat on moments ago. "Yeah, let's go help them."
They made their way to the large library and heard the other mages discuss another line of the prophecy. "A choice that will break three mothers and Kings shall give in to their instincts." "That's the next part of the prophecy. Let's try with this." Yukino told the assembled group. "This has to be referring to the two daughters and two sons' line. Maybe those four have three mothers that will have to sacrifice or have to leave their children." Erza said. "And what about Kings shall give in to their instincts? That doesn't sound good. If this does have to do with Wendy then maybe that means Dragons. Maybe the kings of each Kingdom will become monsters or something close to it." Gray thought.
"Mind if we join you?" Cana asked the assembled group. They took notice of the puffiness of Lucy's eyes but didn't say anything. Mira got to extra chairs and they began again. Telling the two women about all that they had found. "I have a feeling that has to do with Acnologia. Think about it, it makes sense. He is both a human and a dragon. We found that out beneath the arena and the castle." Lucy told the others, she didn't know how many of them knew of the Dragon Burial Ground that was under the Royal Palace.
"Wait, wait, wait. There is a dragon graveyard under the stadium? How did you find that out, Lucy?" Yukino asked her blonde friend. "Gajeel, he had found it when Natsu went on to fight the Twin Dragons by himself. Wendy, Natsu, Gajeel, Gray, the exceeds and myself found out about the true nature of Dragon Slayers." Her mind was thinking back to the moment she looked between all three Dragon Slayers of Fairy Tail in horror.
"What did you find out about the Dragon Slayers?" She didn't get to say since a hand was clamped firmly onto her mouth, with a hot breath in her ear. "Say anything and you will die by the King and Queen of the Dragon Kingdom. You already know who the King is, do you really want to anger him further?" Natsu asked his Mate. He knew he was scaring her and everyone else that he was close with but it was necessary to make sure they would not die for treason.
"Let her go. Now Natsu." Mira was furious that Natsu would lay a harmful hand on Lucy, she was his partner. The pink haired young man looked to the eyes of his friends and those he considered family. "If you will not speak of my people and my Kingdom, then I will leave you all in peace. But I must say this. No one is allowed to speak of the Dragon Kingdom or who they are beside a Slayer, their Mate or their Kin. Do not make the same mistake as others. For they all have died brutal deaths."
Natsu left quickly after issuing the warning. They were all fearful that they stayed in silence for a good few minutes. "Do any of you know what just happened?" Gray asked. No one answered. "Okay, so no one talk about Dragons please. I don't want a repeat of that." Lucy muttered.
As they spent the next few days in the library piecing together the prophecy they didn't see that the Golden Trio was hanging onto every word they said. Hermione was copying everything they had said, like a script.
