I was intending to write another hurt/comfort chapter with perhaps a tad bit of angst. It would have amused me to hit people with more sad stuff after chapter 2 of Those Left Behind. But then I got struck by a random fluffy mood and this came out instead. Not a long chapter, not a lot of plot, just some mindless fluff. Enjoy.
EDIT (20/10/13): As momoxtoshiro pointed out, there was a sentence that kinda just stopped in the middle. It has been fixed.
Title: Lazy Days
Characters: Weiss and Ruby.
Genre: Romance.
Summary: Classes are out of session for the day, and as such Ruby and Weiss are able to just spend a lazy day together.
Weiss let out a soft hum from her position seated next to Ruby. There had been no class today, and rather than stay cooped up inside they had elected to take a walk. It was actually still the middle of the week, not the weekend. There hadn't been any classes due to a system malfunction in some of the new equipment that Professor Ozpin had installed at Beacon. She was not quite sure on the specifics, but the situation was serious enough that classes were on hold until further notice. There was a time not long ago where Weiss would have been seriously annoyed at the disruption of her studies, but right now she couldn't be bothered to care much about it.
Right now, it meant that she had the time to spend with her girlfriend. Gently she leaned over slightly so that she was leaning into Ruby's side, whose arm immediately snaked it's way around her waist pulling her closer. This was nice. They were currently seated on a grassy hill overlooking the town. It was a rather scenic area, but a little hard to get to which meant that there weren't a whole lot of other people nearby.
Typically Weiss was not wholly comfortable with outward emotional displays, especially if it was accompanied with physical contact. She was moderately better about it in private compared to public, but even then it was still a little uncomfortable. It wasn't that she was ashamed or anything about her relationship with Ruby, her upbringing had just left her with little experience in such things. While her sexuality had bothered her for a time after she had first realized her preferences, Weiss had also had some time to come to terms with it. Being with Ruby had certainly helped with that. She could never be ashamed of Ruby, Ruby was the most wonderful person she had ever met, and Weiss felt lucky every day that she had the chance to be with her. If anything, she sometimes worried that perhaps Ruby would be ashamed of her.
Still though, on quiet days like this, sometimes she could just allow herself to relax. Closing her eyes Weiss allowed her head to tilt to the side, resting it atop Ruby's shoulder. She knew that her girlfriend was a much more touchy-feely person than her, and typically loved close contact between them. Even more so if Weiss were the one to initiate it. If she was being honest with herself, Weiss would have to admit that she really liked being close to Ruby like this as well.
"What are you thinking about Weiss?" asked Ruby. Her good mood was easily evident in her voice, probably due to a combination of both a day off from classes as well as a certain girl whose head of white hair took up the lower corner of her vision.
"Mmm, not much," Weiss murmured in reply. Shifting slightly she made herself more comfortable in her current position. "I was just thinking that this is rather nice, isn't it?"
Giggling slightly Ruby hummed her agreement. "This is pretty good, yeah." Wrapping her other arm around her quieter companion Ruby brought them closer together as she leaned her own head against that of her girlfriend's. "Buuut... I think this is even better!" Without further warning, Ruby still with a tight grip around Weiss's waist leaned to her other side away from her. With a small squeak Weiss was lifted off the ground temporarily until she came to a rest laying diagonally across the torso of Ruby who was now lying on her back atop the grass.
Twisting her head so that she could face upwards Weiss frowned at Ruby. She got a beaming smile in return. Sighing Weiss returned her eyes to the sky, choosing not to make an issue of this. The sun was behind a thin layer of clouds at the moment, meaning the area was still warm, but she could still look at the sky without issue. Now in a new position she took another moment to resituate herself more comfortably, laying her head on Ruby's collar. Ruby's arms wrapped themselves securely around Weiss again, left arm circling her waist and her right arm across her chest.
Perhaps Ruby was right, this was in fact better. A slight cool breeze that periodically came through the area was refreshing, and the warmth emanating from the body below her was very comfortable as well. Closing her eyes Weiss basking in the peacefulness of the situation. It was wonderful not to have anything to do or worry about, simply being able to be with the girl that she loved.
She was not quite sure how long they lay there for. Possibly a half hour or even longer. Weiss couldn't quite manage to keep track of the time as the feeling of comfort encircled in Ruby's arms almost managed to lull her to a peaceful sleep. Before she had quite managed to fall asleep though, she felt the weight of Ruby's right arm lifting itself off her chest, one blue eyes cracked itself open to look up at the hand pointing skyward.
"Hey Weiss, doesn't that cloud look kind of like a slice of pie?" Ruby asked, her voice finally breaking the previous silence.
Weiss opened her other eye as well, and though her gaze was still partially lidded she looked towards where Ruby was pointing. "It's somewhat triangular if that's what you mean," she said drily keeping her voice low. "Of course that's just like you, always thinking with your sweet tooth."
Ruby pouted slightly at that, not that Weiss was able to see from her position. Not one to give up so easily though she shifted her arm to point at a different part of the sky. "What about that cloud? Doesn't it look just like a little puppy?"
Again Weiss turned to look where her girlfriend was pointing at now. A puppy? Only in the vaguest of terms. It's bulky misshapen form reminded her more of a beowolf than any sort of puppy. "Ruby, the only puppy here is you," she said aloud with a hint of amusement in her voice.
Weiss's playful barb was immediately rewarded with a cry of indignation from her makeshift pillow. "Hey! That's not very nice Weiss. I am not a puppy!" Her cheeks puffed out in another pout, but again this went unseen by Weiss who had closed her eyes once more, drifting back towards sleep. A moment passed as she waited for Weiss to say something in return, but the other girl had already stopped paying attention to the world around her again. "Well then, if I'm a puppy, I'd rather like to play right now!" With the not quite sleeping beauty still atop her, a mischievous smile spread across Ruby's face as she rolled over.
Ruby's movement abruptly snapped Weiss out of her rather peaceful relaxation. Not a moment later she found her back against the cool and hard ground as opposed to her more comfortable bedding previously. Irritated, Weiss began opening her mouth and snapped her eyes open as she prepared to give Ruby a verbal tongue lashing, but froze upon seeing her face only inches away from her.
"Do you know what this puppy wants right now?" Ruby asked. Weiss could feel Ruby's breath warm on her face as her voice became stuck in her throat. "This puppy," she murmured leaning in closer. "Would like to give you a kiss." Without another word, she proceeded to do just that as she claimed Weiss's lips for her own.
Instantly Weiss felt her irritation melt away as everything else in the world fell away from her thoughts. Lifting up her hands she brought them to cup Ruby's cheeks, pulling her face in to deepen their tender kiss. Weiss was pinned between a body of red and black pressing against her from above, with the unyielding ground beneath her and nowhere to go. She felt very much at Ruby's mercy right now, but that didn't bother her in the slightest. She felt so warm, so happy at time like these when she could feel Ruby so very close against her, so safe, so very complete.
After a moment that felt all too short for Weiss, Ruby pulled back to allow the two of them some air. Weiss's eyes drifted downward from silver orbs looking back at her to the pair of red lips that were upon her own not too long ago. Unconsciously her tongue poked out to lick her lips. Strawberries she noted idly. Ruby had had some of those for lunch earlier.
Pushing off the ground Weiss swung herself forward, mashing her lips against her girlfriend once again. Following through with the momentum Ruby allowed herself to be pushed back. She ended up in a seated position, bent back at the knees with her arms propping her up behind her and Weiss on top of her. Arms wrapped loosely around her girlfriend's neck, Weiss took the lead for once, to which Ruby happy obliged her initiative. Unlike the darker haired girl, Weiss didn't let up on their lip lock until she absolutely needed to breathe. Breaking off, Weiss nuzzled her face into Ruby's collar as she finally took in a deep breath to satiate her lungs.
"You sure are affectionate today," teased Ruby with a pleased grin. She was hardly complaining though. It was always nice when Weiss was like this, and the relative rarity of such situations just made it all the more special. Ruby pushed herself up slightly into a better balanced position so that she was able to bring her arms off the ground freeing them up to replace them in position around Weiss again. She also carefully swung her legs back out from underneath her so that they were once more extended along the ground more comfortably.
"Well, I don't have anything better to do today," Weiss mumbled. "And you're rather comfy if nothing else."
"Ah!" Ruby gasped out with an overblown sense of dramatic flair. She lifted one of her arms up, placing the back of her hand against her forehead. "Oh woe is me. Demoted to a glorified pillow. I thought you loved me!"
With a sigh Weiss lifted up her head to peck Ruby on the lips before shifting herself back into a more comfortable position upon her lap. "Now shut up and let me sleep."
Ruby just smiled softly without retort, holding Weiss as she finally managed to fall asleep. Taking care not to disturb Weiss from her slumber, Ruby carefully removed her cloak and folded it one handed into a bundle which she placed on the ground behind her. Perhaps Weiss had the right idea was Ruby's thought as she slowly lowered herself back down to the ground with the aforementioned girl still on top of her. Resting her head upon her cloak as a makeshift pillow, Ruby closed her eyes. Snuggling Weiss closer to her she heard a soft murmur come from the sleeping girl. A simple thought floated through her mind as she drifted off to sleep herself. This is nice.
Author's Note
Well, that was pretty short. It was written pretty spur of the moment. I'm not sure if i want to go back to finishing the other chapter I started for this, or move on to a chapter of another fic. I might do Beauty and the Beast Ch.3 next if the fluffy mood persists, fell out of the mood necessary for Ch.3 of Those Left Behind.
In another news, in terms of views this story is easily my most popular for obvious reasons. Over 30k views on this story alone, almost double everything else put together. 99 favourites, and 110 alerts. For everybody who's stuck around and keeps reading, thank you so much. On the other hand, while I don't want to sound whiny, I do wish you guys would review more. Those Left Behind where I'm killing everyone has two chapters and just over 2000 views but is quickly approaching this story in reviews. Do you guys just enjoy being sad more than happy?
