Chapter 14: Hybrid Forms

Faron and the others stared at Link in shock before Dark stepped forward hesitantly. "L..Link? The green dragon's eyes flew open and he stared down at Dark.

He growled and nodded.

"You can't speak?" Oni cocked his head.

The dragon shook his head.

Oni sighed. "Alright." A thought crossed Oni's mind, and he looked back at Link. "What about telepathy? Maybe we can still speak that way?"

Link's eyes widened and he nodded. He closed his eyes and concentrated. Can you hear me?

Oni smiled when he heard Link, out of the corner of his eye, he saw Dark stiffen as he stared at Link. I don't think I'm the only one.

Dark smiled, as did Oni and Link. The dragon nodded. So, Dark? You can hear me too? What about the others?

Dark looked at the others and saw no reaction from them. I think it's just us.

Oni's eyes widened. "That's pretty cool," he said. "I wonder why that is. Anyway, how did you come to be a dragon, Link?"

Link shook his head. I don't really know...why don't we ask Faron?

They nodded, and looked at the female dragon. Faron thought about it.

"I believe it is a side-effect of the energy I gave Link," she said.

Link smiled sheepishly. I guess I shouldn't of brushed off what happened with that transfer earlier.

Dark rolled his eyes. I guess not.

"Is it permanent?" Oni asked.

Faron thought about it. "I'm not sure."

Link sighed. We'll have to wait and see.

Dark, Oni and Faron nodded. Zelda spoke up. "Maybe Link can practice for a bit and get used to this new form."

Link looked down at her and nodded yes. Zelda smiled and nodded back.

"That is a good idea," Faron said, and looked at Link.

I guess I could try flying.

Faron nodded. Link opened his wings, flapped them, and took off into the air. The feeling was incredible. Faron took off beside him.

This feels amazing!

Faron smiled. "I'm glad you enjoy it, Link. How about trying to breathe fire?"

How do I do that?

"Focus on creating fire, and then expel it from your lungs."

Link nodded and did so. A few minutes later, he opened his mouth, took a breath, and exhaled a giant ball of flame. He grinned. Cool! Can you do that?

"I can breathe ice and water," Faron said. She did the same as Link but instead of fire, water and ice shot out of her mouth. "Dragons have many powerful abilities. They are also immortal."

Link's eyes widened. Really? Do you think that I will be immortal?

Faron nodded. "It is highly possible."

Link sighed. Well, that's a surprise...I guess we should return to the others now.

The two dragons descended and landed in front of the group.

"So, how was your flight?" Oni asked.

Faron voiced Link's answer. "It was nice."

Oni smiled and he and Dark looked at Link.

"So, you had fun?" Dark asked.

Yes, Link nodded.

The dragon smiled and lay down, yawning, and went to sleep. The others all realized how tired they were and laid down as well.

The next day, Link woke up and looked at himself. He was back to normal...somewhat. Oni and Dark heard him moving around and woke up, shock crossing their faces when they saw him.

"Link?" Zelda asked. "You look like...a hybrid of a human and a dragon."

"I...I noticed that." Link stammered.

"What do you think caused that?"

"I don't know..."

They thought about it. Link's hybrid form and full dragon form were interesting.

"Uh...has Faron woken up yet? Maybe she'll know something."

Dark and Oni shook their heads. Link sighed and nodded. A few minutes later, Faron woke and looked at Link in surprise.

"What happened?" She asked.

"I don't know, I woke up like this."

"That is interesting. Some of your dragon form may have transferred to your human for as well, resulting in a hybrid transformation."

Link sighed. "I guess that's a good enough explanation...I just hope I don't get mistaken for a monster whenever we enter a town. That used to happen when I would enter a town in wolf form."

Faron nodded.

"Faron, will you teach me Farore's Wind soon?"

"Sure, I can do that. The other dragons will teach you their powers as well," Faron said.

Link nodded. "When do you want to start?"

Faron thought about it. "How about later today?"

Link nodded again. "Alright."

Faron smiled and looked at the others.

"What shall we do in the meantime?" Zelda said. "Look for the other dragons?"

Link nodded. "We have to lift the Twilight as soon as possible." Link looked down at himself. "And I'll figure this out as we go."

Zelda and the others nodded.

"We better head out, then," Oni said.

Link nodded.

"Where shall we go next?" Midna asked him.

"Death Mountain, it's closest. Eldin will most likely be there, since he's said to live in a volcano."

Midna nodded, as did the others. "Where is that?"

"Just past Kakariko Village."

"Alright, then. Let's go," Zelda said.

Link nodded. "Right."

They set out, heading towards Kakariko Village.
