Chapter 20.

It Will Rain.

Epov.

I was in the back of the store making a list of the new books that came in today and I could hear the rain falling on the roof. It has been raining for a week now which is normal for this time of the year. November means rain in Forks but we're lucky it didn't snow already.

A lot has happened during the last couple of months since Bella came home from the hospital. She quit working for Alice because she didn't want to lock herself away anymore. Alice wasn't really happy with that but she understood Bella's decision and told her she had too much talent to keep photographing food anyway. Both of them have been close friends ever since and Alice likes to kidnap Bella on one of her favorite shopping trips at least once a month, Bella always complains about those trips because she hates shopping for herself but I know that she secretly loves it.

I'm still working with Carlisle, but he's planning on retiring and giving the store to me because he wants to travel with Esme. They have been together for a few months and I was surprised when I heard the news but Bella laughed at me and said that she saw something was going on between them since they visited her in the hospital. Carlisle is almost 30 years older than Esme but age is just a number right.

Carlisle asked her to marry her in the summer and that's why he wants to stop working. I feel honored that he would choose me for this instead of selling the whole store. But he told me he wanted to give his second home to someone he loves and trust and that I was like a son to him so that meant that I couldn't say no to him.

So all of this was going to be mine in the summer.

I remember that Gandhi ones said that whatever we do in life will be insignificant but it's very important that you do it, nobody else will. I've never really understood what he was saying until now.

"Edward?" Carlisle asked from behind me making me jump, I was so deep in my thoughts that I didn't hear him enter the room.

"Yes Boss?" I said smiling and I heard him chuckling, it sort of a joke between us.

"There is a lovely lady inside asking for you." He said and I put the book I was holding back into the box before I rose to my feet.

"Well I better go then, it wouldn't be nice to keep her waiting right?" I said hitting Carlisle's shoulder. He laughed and shook his head and I walked into the store, the smell of books filling my nose.

I walked through different aisles, there was nobody here today due the bad weather so it wasn't hard to find her. She was standing in the back of the store with a little piece of paper in her hand. Her eyes were gliding over the books trying to find the one she was looking for.

Her looks had changed over the last months and it wasn't all Alice, she looked healthier, happy.

She had gained weight, giving her a much healthier look and now she had curves on all the right places making her even more beautiful. Her hair was a little shorter, falling in soft curls on her shoulder. But the most beautiful change are her eyes, they aren't dull and lifeless anymore, now they are always sparkling with happiness and love. They reminded me every day how lucky I am to have her beside me.

I slowly closed the distant between us and wrapped my arms around her waist, I could feel her body tense before she relaxed in my arms.

"How can I help you Ma'am?" I asked kissing her shoulder.

"Well I'm looking for this book." She said handing me the piece of paper. "But I can't find it."

F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Another one of my favorites.

I hope you like it my dear.

Was written on the paper and I recognized Carlisle's handwriting.

"Well let's see if I can help." I said while letting her go, I took the ladder from the back and leaned it against the bookshelf before I climbed on it.

I leaned my body to the right to grab her book.

"Careful." Bella said and I looked down to see her staring at me with a worried look on her face. That was something that didn't change, she always worried about others.

I grabbed her book and climbed back down handing her the book with a smile.

"See nothing broken." I say joking.

She rolled her eyes and took the book from my hands studying to cover, and I leaned my back against the ladder.

"Thank you." She says before she looked up.

I pulled her closer and leaned my head down. "You're welcome." I whisper before I kiss her.

She was first to break the kiss. "Hi."

"Hi." I said leaning my head against hers.

"I've got a job." She whispered with the most breathtaking smile.

Bella has been looking for a job for a while but it was hard to find something in a small town like Forks.

"Really? That's great where?"

"Well do you remember my portfolio I ones showed you?" She asked and I nodded, those pictures showed how much talent she really has.

"It's a company in Seattle, they make books with tips and tricks for photographers and they want to publish my pictures in them, they also want me to write my thoughts and meaning about pictures." I could hear her excitement in her voice, this is exactly what she wanted to do.

"I'm so proud of you." I said pulling her in for a hug.

"Yeah, I hope I don't disappoint them." She said against my neck.

"There's no way possible." She was going to be great.

Bella kissed my neck and leaned back so she could look into my eyes. She wanted to say something but Carlisle interrupted us.

"There you are Bella, did you find my book?" He asked walking to us.

"Yep, Edward helped me." She said lifting the book so he could see it.

"Good, Let me know what your thoughts are of this one, it's a pierce of art."

Bella chuckled, Carlisle called every book he read a piece of art.

They talked about Esme for a while before he spoke to me again.

"Why don't you leave a little earlier son and take your girl home, there's no one here and I don't think that's going to change. The weather is too bad."

"Are you sure?" I didn't want to leave Carlisle with all the work.

He smiled looking at Bella and winked. "He should have been dragging you to his car already.

Both of us laughed and I told Bella to wait so I could get my coat. We said goodbye to Carlisle and she promised him to give him her thoughts of the book on paper.

The rain stopped, making it easier for me to drive home. Normally the car was filled with Bella's happy chatter of her day but today she was quiet and I could feel that something was wrong.

"Okay talk to me love." I said snapping her out of her thoughts.

"What?" She asked.

"I can feel there's something wrong, talk to me." I said before I took her hand that was resting on her knee.

She sighed before she turned herself in her seat so she could see me better.

"I was thinking about my dad." She whispered and I my body filled with guilt. Bella has told me more than a hundred times that what happened wasn't my fault but I couldn't help to feel guilty every time we talked about him.

Off course she noticed that. "Edward don't."

"I know I'm sorry." I said giving her a little smile.

She sighed before she continued.

"I want you to meet him, I mean I know it isn't possible to really meet him but I want to show you his grave. I want him to see you, to see us."

"Love I-" I started but she cut me of.

"No it's okay if you don't want to, I get it but that's what I was thinking about. So forget what I said it was a stupid idea." She said and pulled her hand away.

I parked the car on the side of the empty road before I cut engine and this time it was me who turned myself so she could see my face and I grabbed her hand again.

"Bella, I want to, really. There's not a day the passes without me wishing that you could have introduced us so he could have showed me his gun and threatening to shoot me if I would hurt you." I said earning a little laugh from her.

I smiled at her and whipped a lonely tear from her cheek.

"So you want to show me his grave?"

Bella smiled and nodded her head. "Only if you want to she said."

"It would be an honor." I said while I started the car again. The rest of the drive to the cemetery was quiet but this time it was me who didn't say anything, because I was nervous. It watched her father die but seeing his grave would make it more real inside my head I think and for a brief moment I thought about James.

Bella let me to her father's grave without loosening her hold on my hand. We stopped in front of small stone with Charlie Swan, A brave man and a loving father. Written on it and I felt a lump in my throat. Bella squeezed my hand and I put my arm around her shoulder, I needed her close.

We stood there in silence for God knows how long, both thinking about different things until Bella broke the silence. "He would have loved you, you know?"

I closed my eyes at her words and leaned my head against hers.

"Yeah?" It was hard to speak with tight feeling in my throat.

I could feel her nod and that's when it started to rain again but we didn't care. We stood there for a while longer before Bella asked me if I was ready to go.

We were soaked when we arrived back at the car and again we drove in silence both too deep in our thoughts. I cut the engine when we arrived home we and walked inside.

Bella put her coat away and she looked into the mirror in the hallway.

"Jesus I look like drowned cat." She said braking the tension between us. I laughed, put my coat away and stood beside her, wrapping my arms around her waist feeling how cold she was.

"Aren't you freezing?" I asked and I rubbed my hands up and down her arm trying to warm her.

"A little." she said turning around in my arms and standing on her tiptoes so she could kiss me.

"Care to join me in the shower?" She asked biting my bottom lip.

I groaned and pulled her closer.

I took me exactly 7 seconds to get her up the stairs and into the bathroom, Bella turned the water on and both of us undressed. Bella stepped into the shower and I followed her, stepping under the hot spray. My body relaxed when I felt the hot water on my cold skin and I reached for Bella pulling her against my chest.

She leaned her head against my chest where my heart is and I ran my hand through her wet hair. We stood like that for a while, both of us just breathing each other in and I whispered a thank you into her hair. She shook her head against my chest and I grabbed her shampoo washing her hair. She did the same for me when I was done and that's when I trailed my hands over her body washing the day away.

I turned the water of when we were finished and wrapped a towel around her body before I wrapped another towel around my waist. Bella was drying her hair when I kissed a path from her bare shoulders to her neck, I nibbled and sucked at the skin leaving a small mark, earning a moan from Bella.

"Edward." She sighed, turning her head so it was resting against her shoulder.

"Hmm?" I mumbled still kissing her neck.

"Please."

I turned her around in my arms and tangled one of my hands in her still damp hair before I brought her mouth to mine. I groaned when her tongue teased my bottom lip and that's when I pulled her with me to our bedroom.

Our towels were thrown on the floor and she giggled when I pushed her down on the bed.

We kissed again and Bella buried her hands into my hair, trying to pull me closer. My hands roamed over her body taking her breast into my hand before I pinched her nipples. Bella broke the kiss and gasped giving me the change to repeat my actions with my lips earning another moan from her.

"Edward please." She moaned.

"What do you want love?" I breathed into her hear before I took her earlobe between my teeth.

She groaned and pushed her hips up making me groan this time when she brushed against my hard one.

"You." She whispered.

"You have me baby. Body." I said kissing her neck. "Mind." Kissing the top of her head. "And soul." Kissing the place where her heart was beating fast.

Bella pulled my face up again so she could kiss me, our tongues fighting for dominance.

I took both of our hands and pulled them up so they were resting beside her head and tangled my fingers with hers.

We broke the kiss and I looked into her eyes silent asking if she was alright, she smiled and nodded before I slowly entered her and I groaned when I felt her heat around me.

Bella gasped and closed her eyes, arching her back and lifting her hips up, pulling me deeper inside her.

"Fuck." I moaned laying my head on her shoulder.

Both of us were breathing fast, I lifted my head and looked back at Bella before I slowly started to move inside of her.

I would never get tired of this, feeling her around me, breathing her in. I started to move a little faster making both of us moan. Bella wiggled her arms and I loosened my grip on her hands, her hands slipped from mine and now they were buried inside my hair.

My lips found her breasts again and my hands grabbed the back of her knees bending her legs so they were wrapped around my back pulling me even deeper.

"God damn it Bella." I said before I kissed her again, she moaned into my mouth and I broke the kiss because we needed to breathe. I couldn't get enough of her.

"Harder, faster, please Edward." She whimpered and I fisted the pillow on each side of her head before I did what she wanted.

She groaned again and lifted her hips up every time I pushed down.

"You like that baby?" I breathed against her ear, making her shiver.

Fuck I was close. "I love how you feel wrapped around me."

"I'm close." She moaned and she dug her nails in my back.

"Fuck, baby that's it, come for me love."

Her whole body tightened up, her walls clenching around me, her head thrown back.

"Edward." She screamed, tightening her legs around me, I pushed harder and that's when I felt pure pleasure shooting through my body. "Bella." I moaned when I came inside her.

I collapsed on top of her and I rested my head on the place where her heart was beating fast, her hands were running through my hair and we were trying to catch our breaths.

My heartbeat was getting back to normal after a while and lifted myself up, slowly rolling on my back and pulling her body on top of mine, she wrapped her arms around me and laid her head on my chest.

"I love you." I whispered in her hair before I kissed the top of her head.
Bella lifted her body so she could look at me en pressed her lips against mine.

"I love you too." She breathed against my lips and I smiled. I pulled her closer and she took my hand and laid it against her neck.

Slowly I stroked the raised skin there and suddenly my thoughts drifted to the little box in the bedside table.

The box had been there ever since I've earned enough money to buy the little jewelry but I still needed to ask her the question.

I've bought the ring a couple of weeks after Bella came home from the hospital at the little jewelry store in Seattle when Carlisle and I drove there for a book convention. The lady behind the counter asked me if I was looking for a present for my girlfriend and I had told her that I needed a ring.

The ring is nothing expensive just a small silver band with a little diamond in it but it was perfect for Bella. The only thing I needed to do was ask her. I wanted to ask her sooner but the timing never felt right.

I looked at Bella to make sure she was asleep before I reached my hand to the bedside table at my right and took the little box from it's hiding place before I fell back against the pillows.

Bella sighed and moved and for a second I was afraid that she was awake but she mumbled my name and tightened her grip around my waist before her soft breaths filled the room again.

A sudden need to see the ring on her finger filled me and I opened the box before I took the ring in my hand. I twirled the ring between my fingers looking at the small thing that held such a big meaning.

I gently took her left hand that was resting on my chest in mine and put the ring on her ring finger.

Perfect.

I smiled and kissed her knuckles before placing her hand back on my chest and I closed my eyes, I would take the ring off before I would go to sleep I thought. Which was a stupid idea because I open my eyes and I see the room is batting in an orange glow from the lamp on the bedside table and it's dark outside. I look at the clock to see it's 2 in the morning and sigh closing my eyes again.

"Edward?" Bella says kissing my shoulder.

"Wake up."

"What's wrong Love?" I ask still half asleep.

"Well nothing's wrong but would you like to tell me what this ring is doing on my finger?"

My eyes shot open to see her looking at me and I look down at her hand where the ring is still on her finger. God I'm a fucking idiot.

"I forgot to take it off." Is the first thing that comes out of my mouth and I feel like an asshole when I see Bella's face fall.

"Oh, I'm sorry." She says before taking the ring off her finger and handing it to me.

"No Love, fuck I didn't mean it that way." This was not how I had planned this whole thing.

I sat up so my back was leaning against the headboard and pulled her up with me so she was sitting before me. Now I saw that she was dressed in one of my shirts again and I smiled a little at the sight of her.

"I wanted to surprise you while taking you out to dinner, I've had this whole speech planned but I can't seem to remember a word from it." I say while touching her cheek and she smiles at me with tears in her eyes.

"I've never thought I could love someone as much as I love you. I'll never be able to give you a house with a backyard in the city, or a car to drive you to all the places you want to see. I can't buy you the most expensive jewelry or take you to big restaurants, I can't show you the world or give you everything you deserve and more because I'll never be able to afford them. But what I can give and promise you is a man who loves and adores you, who makes sure you feel loved and beautiful every single day. I'll promise to be your shoulder to cry one when you're feeling sad, I'll be your best friend when you need someone to laugh and joke with, I'll be your pillow when you're tired or your anchor when you need me to be strong, I'll be here whenever you need me because I love you and I can't picture my life without you in it. But most important I promise to never ever leave my dirty socks or underwear on the floor because I know how much woman hate that."

Bella laughs and smile at her before I take her hand in mine. It's now or never.

"So would you do me the honor of marrying me?" I ask and pray that she will say yes.

Bella doesn't say anything for a while and the silence is killing me.

The nerves get to me and I start to ramble. "You don't have to if you don't want or if it's too soon, I mean I can wait, I'll wait until-"

Bella cuts me of by wrapping her arms around my neck and I wrap mine around her waist pulling her close, I feel her tears dripping on my shoulder and then she says the most beautiful word I've ever heard.

"Yes." She whispers into my ear.

Yes? She said yes?

I pulled her even closer to me and let out a breath I didn't even knew I was holding.

"Yes?" I ask, needing to hear her say it again.

Bella pulls back from my embrace and leans her head down so we're nose to nose, I can see her blue eyes looking at me and my heart fills with warmth when I see love in them.

"Yes." The word barley left her lips before I tangle my hand in her hair and pull her to me so I could kiss her.

"Thank you." I say when we come up for breath.

"You know the whole dirty socks and underwear thing did it for me." She says joking and I laugh.

"I should give you your ring back." I say while slipping the ring back on her finger where it belongs.

"Thank you, it's beautiful." She whispers and I pull her down with me so she's laying on my chest again.

"No, thank you Love." I kiss the top of her head on both of us close our eyes, that was the first night I held Bella as my fiancé.
