A/N: Okay, my mom still has the computer, and I am apparently incapable of being productive over summer vacation. Go figure.
Thank you to Poison1234, The Cretin, and JAH for reviewing. It's good to know that there are still a few people who haven't lost their patience with me. :)
Disclaimer: I don't own them.
Aqualad tried to steady his breathing as he walked down the hall to the control room, where he would (hopefully) find Bumblebee filling out police reports on the computer. (Why they had a separate room for the computer instead of just having it in the main room like the original Titans was beyond him)
Garth sighed in mild relief at the glow coming through the slightly opened door of the room, then a frown crossed his face as he heard the low muttering that signified that Bee was indeed inside, and was very stressed out.
If Garth had been anyone else, he would have jumped on this fact as an excuse to put off having to go through with the plan. However, he was not anyone else, and thus he remembered that Raven would be waiting for him to check back in and let her know that the plan was good to go, and that she would not be impressed with this excuse.
So he sighed in resignation and tapped tentatively on the door.
"Hey Bee?"
"Oh there you are." She said, glancing up briefly before returning her attention to the computer screen. "Good timing, I was about to go looking for you. How long did it take us to get the twins into the TE-Ship last time we went to Jump City?"
Garth blinked, caught off guard by the unusual question.
"About an hour, why?"
"Remember after we took down the Brotherhood of Evil, when Robin was talking to everyone right before we all headed home?"
"...Not exactly." He answered slowly, hoping he wouldn't have to admit that he had tuned him out along with the rest of the team.
"He said that we would be regrouping in another month or two so we could readress the issue with the communicators, along with other things, like seeing how the new team has been doing and finalizing their roster?" She prompted.
"Oh, right. That. What about it?"
"He just called, it's scheduled in three days."
Garth took a moment to think over this tidbit of information.
"So...we'll be going there in three days?"
"Yep. Oh, could you also do me a favor and ask Terra what she'll want to do during all this?"
"Of course." He said, backing out of the room, grinning with relief that at least he didn't have to deal with convincing Bumblebee to let the team suddenly pack up and go pay the Titans a visit. "On my way."
Two days later, Terra stood on the metal platform that served as the Titans East's "front lawn", looking out to sea, trying to come up with a last-minute excuse to stay behind, and having absolutely no luck.
"Nervous?"
Terra looked up at the familiar voice and mustered up a small grin.
"A little. Mostly I'm just relieved that I'm finally going to be able to stop tiptoeing around the Titans and start going somewhere with my life again." She sighed and turned back to the sea view, leaning forward to rest against the railing. "So, what about you? looking forward to seeing some of your old friends again?"
"Huh?"
"Robin, Kid Flash, and Wonder Girl? You said a few days ago that you knew them before you all became Teen Titans." Terra reminded him. "Looking forward to seeing them?"
Garth blinked, surprised that she remembered that "Oh, yeah, I guess." He shrugged, frowning to himself as he remembered that he would have to talk to Kid Flash before he happened to catch sight of Terra.
Speaking of which, there was something else he had to do.
He moved forward a few steps to lean against the railing with her, taking a deep breath to try to calm his already jittery nerves.
"Why did all this have to get so complicated?" He thought to himself as he searched for the right words to say what he wanted to say.
"Terra?"
She turned slightly to face him.
"Yes?"
The worried frown was fleeting, gone so fast that he could've just imagined it, but he knew he had seen it, and that was all it took to send all thoughts of telling her anything flying out the window.
She had enough to worry about without his help.
Instead, he sighed, reached into the pocket of his pants (he'd already learned his lesson about trying to survive a 24 hour-long cross-country trip wearing a skin tight wetsuit), and pulled out an odd, pendant-like stone object, handing it to her.
"Here."
She took it slowly, turning it over in her hands as she studied it.
It was a simple disk of what looked like polished gray marble, about three times the size of the cap to a water bottle and strung on a plain white string. All in all, it didn't look very impressive.
"Uh, thanks… it's very… pretty?" Terra said slowly, unsure of what he expected her to say.
Her ocean-themed friend couldn't help cracking a grin at her confusion.
"Not really." He replied, pulling out an identical pendant from under his T-shirt. "It's charmed. If you're ever in trouble or need help, it'll let me know."
At this, surprise and gratitude shone in Terra's face as she began studying the little trinket with new eyes.
"Does it work both ways?If you were the one in trouble, would it let me know?"
"Yes, but only if you wanted it to."
"HEY, are you two coming or what?" The two teens looked up at the sound of Speedy's unfortunately-timed shout from the garage.
"Keep your hair on, Ginger, we're coming!" Terra shouted back, her good mood immediately souring a little at the thought of spending all day riding in the same -very small- car as the team's resident archer.
Garth sighed a little.
"Well, better go before the Twins get away again."
Terra nodded, then, on an impulse, she hugged him.
"Thanks." She said, her voice soft. "For everything."
After a moment, she felt him wistfully return the gesture.
"Anytime."
