Chapter 20: Cosmos

Final Fantasy Academy. It is known for the artistic students, the high scores, the luxurious dorms, and things you can't find anywhere else. And this school is about to get new, unique students for the new school year.

To Cosmos, the reincarnated goddess will again try to look for those who had fallen thousands of years ago. (1)

The war against the gods had long been over with Cosmos's victory. Though the outcome had brought peace and happiness since then up to the present, it had cost her dear warriors' lives for that peace to happen. The thought of her warrior's sacrifices caused her so much guilt… so much.

Of course, even Cosmos perished when World B collapsed. With Chaos's power of discord not there to balance her powers of harmony, it was unavoidable. However, she was eventually reincarnated.

After reaching a certain age, she stopped physically aging. She had recovered her memories as a goddess over the years and noticed then that she looked exactly as she had back in her former life before her aging stopped. Cosmos also found that she could still use her magic, but her powers as a goddess were no more. Surprisingly, she was okay with losing those powers; it brought more harm than good even though she was the Goddess of Harmony.

A few decades later Cosmos met Chaos and discovered that he had been reincarnated just like her. Like the former goddess, he too was burdened with guilt. The former God of Discord wasn't exactly as 'attached' to his warriors as Cosmos was of hers, but he was fond of them… well, some of them, at least. Like a family… a highly dysfunctional family, but still a family.

Although there were some members he could live without like Barthandelus, Ultimecia, Exdeath, Kefka, and Mateus. They rest were... okay, so to speak.

At first, the two former deities still had some animosity between each other. However, they decided that it was pointless to keep a grudge for this long over a war that had ended ages ago and made amends.

Both of them then realized that if they were reincarnated, why not their warriors?

The two of them began searching and searching all over the world, but they could never find them.

Cosmos suggested that they create an institution so they can teach the young ones to not make the same mistakes they did.

And so Final Fantasy Academy was created in the city of Crystalia.

During their travels, Cosmos and Chaos saw cultures from other worlds had come to the reformed World B. Places that specialized in magic, others in technology, literature, in raising and befriending creatures known as pokémon, and so on. (2)

The thought of war breaking out once again was enough to make Cosmos shudder. Thankfully, while the individual countries had their conflicts now and again, they more or less kept them to themselves; they didn't want surrounding nations to become involved in their business, affairs, after all.

Even though her warriors' worlds were safe and sound, this world has yet to be truly united. At least in Crystalia, people from other cultures could connect and live together. I'd bet Cosmos's warriors would have at least liked that.

Nowadays, when Cosmos walks through the city, she can see the reincarnations of those who helped her warriors like Yu Narukami who long ago could summon a being known as Izanagi.

Ieyasu Tokugawa was another of these people. He believed in forming bonds and says that the power of those bonds give him strength to fight with his two fists.

Lucy Heartfilia and Lisanna Strauss were both mages in a world full of magic. Lucy could summon spirits relating to the stars while Lissana could gain the abilities of many animals and cared for the youngest warriors; who had never received such kind affection before. (3)

However these fighters and the other people who helped both the Warriors of Cosmos and Chaos do not remember a thing about their past lives.

Though it turns out Shantotto and Gabranth who were also helpful to the war in some way had also recovered their counterparts' memories. They too wanted to help the younger generation as a way to repent for their actions.

Cosmos felt sorry for the children who will meet both the mage and judge.

Now years later, Cosmos is getting ready to teach children for the new school year.

Gabranth gave her the roster list and requested that she'd look at it immediately to see if there is a need to revise at a moment's notice.

Usually the Judge Magister would just bark orders to the terrified staff. It's kind of amusing to see that the vice principal has a soft spot for both the former Goddess of Harmony and God of Discord. The head nurse Shantotto would always tease him about that whenever the need arises.

But Cosmos didn't have time to look at it because of an urgent phone call by one of her friends, Nadia Beynard- more commonly referred to as "Marle" by her friends. She said that her son and his pokémon went to airplane without the rest of the family on accident and asked if the preschool teacher could pick him up and take care of him for a couple of days.

That made Cosmos's heart skip a few beats. She couldn't quite place why, but something about that simple description almost sounded too familiar to be true. She thought to herself, 'No it couldn't be, but just to make sure...'

When Cosmos asked for the boy and pokémon's description, the distraught mother shakily replied that he was wearing a sleeveless orange hoodie over a black shirt with a design of a dragon in front, blue jeans, and had dark brown hair that was very short but very thick with his bangs spiked to the right. With reluctance Marle described his companion as a flying pink pokémon that kind of resembled as a rat. (4)

When she finally got to the airport to meet the boy, Cosmos couldn't help but mentally squeal in joy. She finally found some of her warriors from the war!

Michael and Mew. The duo who gave amusement or ire -depending on the person- to the people the former goddess considered to be family. Their unique sense of humor and perspective gave Cosmos insight on choosing new warriors at that time. Cosmos had no idea that Michael was Marle's son.

When Cosmos drove up to her house's driveway, she turned off the ignition. She turned her head to the back seat to smile softly at the sight of the sleeping boy and pokémon who looked absolutely exhausted from the day's events.

Deciding now was the right time, Cosmos grabbed the folder that Gabranth gave her and opened it to look through the contents inside. There were forms that Cosmos had to fill out, papers that Cosmos will need to give to the students' parents for them to fill out, and finally the roster list for Miss Cosmos's with the names of the new batch of students in her care.

Cosmos gave a smile towards the unconscious duo in the back of her car before reading the paper. Immediately her smile dropped and her hands started to shake.

Tears started forming in the teacher's eyes, but she didn't have the heart to wipe them away.

The tears had started falling and had no means to stop now. Cosmos covered her mouth with her hand so the noise wouldn't wake the children in her vehicle.

At long last, after years and years of waiting, Cosmos would finally see her beloved warriors again. But first, she needed to make a phone call to Gabranth and see if Michael could be transferred over to her class.

Hello people and happy New Year! Hopefully 2014 won't disappoint a lot of people. By the way for people who actually care, my birthday is on January 7th, so if you want to give me a message on that day I'll be happy.

I bet no one saw this coming and if you did, good for you! So let me clarify a few things:

(1) Yes in this timeline the war against the gods did happen but there was no Shinryu, Cid of the Lufaine, Cosmos wasn't a copy of Cid's wife, no cycles or hidden warriors that died in a previous cycle. Plus there were extra villains like Caius Ballad, Barthandelus, and others. And I added Xion, Roxas, Tsubasa, Mike and Mew which I hope he doesn't mind.

The reincarnated warriors are born to different parents than their past selves but more or less still have the same characteristics and personality.

(2) This is World B. Since this timeline's Cosmos only gave them a signal for them to follow to World B, I figured that the warriors traveled from world to world becoming stronger by power and ideals and when they got to the battlefield, they brought some of the influences with them. I might do a story about this when I actually have time to do so.

(3) These and other fighters were considered to be Cosmos's and Chaos's warriors but for some reason, were not able to qualify so they did the next best thing; train the actual warriors both physically and emotionally.

(4) Let me first say that Marle is from Chrono Trigger and is Michael's mom in this story. I figured Marle would be very uncomfortable describing Mew in a public place like the airport using a public phone. Who knows how many times both Marle and Crono had to chase off trainers who wanted to capture the rare pokémon. The less details the better, though I think Mew would get mad for being called a rat.

(5) Firion's last name is temporary though I'm more inclined to keep it. Rosalva is in Italian origin which means "white rose."

(6) Airavata comes from India meaning "child of water."

(7) Yuna's last name is a Hawaiian name meaning "heavenly flowers."

(8) Raushann is a placeholder for Vaan's last name until I can find another name for him. It comes from Africa meaning "skylight bright."

(9) Vanitas's last name is Date, but knowing that his family could be in danger and the fact his brother's wife and middle child are making a mockery of the family name, he decided to change his last name to Aqua's maiden name when they got married.
