Not So Perfect
Savannah was bouncing on the balls of her feet, feeling she might die with anticipation as she waited at baggage claim at the airport.
It had been three weeks since Scarlett and Elijah had left for Europe. In that time, Savannah had moved back into her old place and was avoiding Klaus completely. With Scarlett gone, Savannah took to hanging out with Marcel, though she wasn't sure why; it was only as friends. She thought maybe they were ok to hang out because of how neither of them were getting along with Klaus as of now, though they still bickered with each other from time to time.
In those three weeks, Savannah had barely been able to speak to Scarlett. She knew that she was busy, but Savannah was dying to know the results of this spell. She had been asking in the days leading up to their trip back to Louisiana, but Scarlett said she would "tell her at home." What did that mean? That it worked and she wanted to celebrate, or it hadn't and she needed comforted? While she knew that Elijah and Scarlett had probably already arranged for a car from the airport, she wanted to seem them the second they landed.
"Savi?" Scarlett laughed as she and Elijah were walking hand in hand through the airport.
"Hi!" Savannah said quickly, rushing the rest of the way through the crowd to meet them. "Did it..." She trailed off as she heard a tiny heartbeat coming from Scarlett. "AHH!" she squealed excitedly, throwing her arms around her best friend.
"We're pretty excited too," Scarlett laughed, hugging Savannah back.
"Oh my God!" Savannah continued to squeal, bouncing as she pulled away from Scarlett. "This is so exciting! It's huge! It...what?" she snapped at people that stopped to stare awkwardly at her making such a scene. "My best friend is having a baby, ok?"
"Sav," Scarlett laughed at her.
"And you!" Savannah said, hugging Elijah next who awkwardly hugged her back. "I'm so glad you got her pregnant!"
"...me too," Elijah told her as he let her go and Scarlett just shrugged.
"C'mon!" Savannah continued to grin, linking arms with Scarlett. "Let's go back to the house, I want to hear about everything."
"I thought you moved out," Scarlett asked and Savannah rolled her eyes.
"Well, I'm sure you two want to unpack," Savannah said simply. "And I can be an adult about it," she tacked on as she got into her car.
"Let's hope we can say the same for Niklaus," Elijah murmured and Scarlett nudged him, though she did bite her lip and smile.
While she said that she could be around and not be uncomfortable, Savannah was glad that Klaus didn't seem to be at the house when she got there with Scarlett and Elijah. And, while impending fatherhood had Elijah wanting nothing more than to watch Scarlett at every moment and take care of her, he did leave her and Savannah alone while he had to deal with some remodeling that had been started around the house. Hayley stopped by briefly to see how things were and to congratulate him on the baby. While in Europe they even made time to meet with Rebekah and share the news with her; the only person left to see was his brother.
"Elijah," Klaus said as he and Genevieve came downstairs now. "I didn't know you were back."
"I didn't know you were home," Elijah said back.
"We were a bit busy," Klaus replied with a smirk, walking by his brother to get a drink.
"I'm glad we ran into you Elijah," Genevieve said now, stopping to talk with him. "I wanted to ask you something."
Genevieve went on to explain that since Marcel had been in charge the witches weren't allowed to celebrate any of their festivals. With the feast of the blessings coming up, she wanted to be able to celebrate it, though Elijah was hesitant. He certainly didn't trust Genevieve after everything she had done. Genevieve then explained why she wanted to have the festival.
"The witches want to use this as a way of introducing the harvest girls," Genevieve told him. "I'm sure the girls would love it." She glanced over at the stairs where Scarlett and Savannah had started to come down. "I know Davina would like it if you came," she told Scarlett now. Scarlett turned to look at Savannah.
"You ever see trash take itself out?" Scarlett asked Savannah.
"Suit yourself," Genevieve said back. "It probably is better that you rest and don't go out so much." She smiled. "You know, with the baby coming." Scarlett rolled her eyes at the fake concern. "It's good to see you too Savannah," she added on now. "I was hoping that I didn't scare you away." With that, she turned to go, saying goodbye to Klaus before exiting the house.
"I didn't realize you two were expecting," Klaus said as Scarlett and Savannah came the rest of the way downstairs to join him and his brother. "Congratulations," he smirked between the two of them. "Can I offer some advice?"
"Mmm, he knocks up one werewolf and he's an expert," Savannah couldn't help but comment.
"The witches, you know," Klaus ignored her. "Haven't been too excited about vampire babies. Making friends with them might not be the worst thing for you to do for my niece or nephew."
"Are you suggesting-"
"She said it was for the harvest girls," Scarlett interrupted now. She didn't want to say it, but Klaus was right. Hayley and her daughter were in constant danger, she didn't want that for her and Elijah's family. "Davina's been having a really hard time fitting in with them, if they want to have this party, maybe it'll help her." Elijah sighed, contemplating it.
"We're going to have to invite all of the factions," Elijah said.
"Peace treaty and all," Savannah chimed in. "Well, count me out." She hugged Scarlett quickly. "I'm gonna go, ok? Congrats," she told her again. "Call Davina, she's going to be so excited." With that, she turned to go.
"No goodbye for me?" Klaus asked her and she rolled her eyes, continuing to walk away. "Are you running off to see your new best friend, did you tell Scarlett about her replacement?"
"She has friends that aren't me Nik," Scarlett laughed, as if pointing out that she was being 'replaced' was supposed to spark this giant fight.
"That are Marcel?" Klaus inquired. Savannah stopped now, turning on a heel to look back at them. She wasn't sure what he was going for here, causing a fight between her and Scarlett, or just being nosy himself as she was hanging out with his enemy.
"Are you trying to get me into trouble?" Savannah raised her eye brows in disbelief. "Yes, we're friends. Who cares?" She looked at Scarlett. "Do you?"
"I'm staying so far out of this one," Scarlett said, though she did take a seat on a nearby couch to watch this one pan out.
"She's moved out of here and is spending most of her time on the other side of the river at his place," Klaus continued.
"Oh, is that what this is, you're jealous," Savannah crossed her arms over herself. "Well, you can tell your possessive paranoia that I'm not sleeping with him. We're just friends." She glared at him. "We have a common interest."
"Hating me?" Klaus asked with some amusement. "Maybe you're the one with a bit of a jealous streak in you sweetheart."
"I'm not jealous," Savannah snapped at him.
"Then why did you move out?" Klaus asked.
"Because I didn't need to see you parading that red-headed slut around everywhere trying to make me jealous," Savannah emphasized. "I'm not jealous, I'm pissed!" She shook her head. "Was I even on my flight to London before you started sleeping with her?"
"Oh, you mean when you left?" Klaus pointed out. "Because that's what you did, you left for Europe with my sister."
"I left because you told me to go!" Savannah shouted at him now.
"And you listened to me," Klaus snapped; the room fell silent.
"Wow," Savannah said out loud, unable to touch the issues that had just surfaced. Instead, she turned and sped away, leaving the other three in silence.
"Well, I hope you're happy with yourself," Elijah commented to his brother now. "With whatever it was that you were trying to accomplish."
It was the night of the party, with Klaus already gone and Savannah still not staying at the house. She was also refusing to attend a party that Genevieve was hosting, which Scarlett couldn't blame her. It did concern her a little that Savannah was spending so much time with Marcel, but it wasn't her place to tell her who to be friends with. And, Savannah did have an excellent point; she and Marcel did have one thing in common. As Scarlett finished getting ready for the night, her thoughts were interrupted by Elijah coming to get her so they could leave.
"You look gorgeous," Elijah told her with a smile.
"Thank you," Scarlett smiled, smoothing her hands over her black dress that had lace detailing. "I figured I'm not going to be able to fit into these kinds of clothes much longer so..." As she let her words trail off, she smiled and he planted a kiss on her lips, smiling back at her. "Oh, you have Davina's gift right?"
"I wrapped it in the paper you gave me," Elijah promised, pulling the small square box from his jacket pocket. He was careful as to which pocket he pulled from, as he had another much smaller box containing a very important gift for Scarlett that came with an even more important question. "Are you trying to tell me what you think the baby is?" he teased as she had given him light pink wrapping paper and silver ribbon.
"I just have a feeling," Scarlett grinned. "And I'm always right."
"Oh, of course," Elijah nodded in agreement, smiling at her. "How did I forget that?"
"Do you think she'll like it?" Scarlett asked him now. It was traditional at the Feast of the Blessings for people to bring gifts for the witches. She had gotten Davina a bracelet with several delicate charms. In her coven, it had been a tradition to give a gift like that when asking someone to be the godmother to their child; it was her way of telling Davina that the spell worked. Scarlett loved Davina, and with her family bloodline coming from witches, her child was going to be a witch. She wanted someone that could mentor them through magic, which Scarlett couldn't practice anymore.
"I'm sure she'll love it," Elijah promised. "Speaking of, we're going to be late."
Scarlett was disgusted at the party. She had been hoping that this would be Davina's chance to fit back in with the witches after she had felt so excluded, but all they were doing was making a point to exclude her as they had everyone give their gifts to the other two girls. Scarlett wasn't sure who's head she wanted to take off first, Genevieve or Monique's. Davina seemed to be having enough of it too, as she got up and left while the other girls continued to receive their guests and gifts. Scarlett went to follow Davina, with Elijah following her. Even with everyone's peace agreement, he was still wary with all of the factions together, especially with Scarlett being pregnant now.
"Hey, wait up," Scarlett said, catching Davina in the hallway. She could tell Davina was upset, she would be too. "You know what, all of their presents suck compared to what we got you," she said, fully aware of how patronizing she sounded as she handed Davina the small wrapped box, but Davina gave a small smile as she took it and opened it anyway.
"Oh wow, it's so pretty," Davina said, admiring the charm bracelet. She then recognized some of the charms, what they signified in the coven. There was one for friendship, one for sisters, one for magic. "Wait," she smiled when she saw the tiny heart charm at the end with an inscription on it. "This is a..." Her mouth dropped when it hit her. "You want me to be a godmother?"
"Absolutely," Scarlett said, Elijah nodding in agreement.
"You're pregnant," Davina half-stated, half-questioned, which caused Scarlett to laugh but nod. "Oh my God, that's so great!" she hugged her tight. "Scarlett that's so exciting. Oh..." She looked at the bracelet in her hand. "And...thank you. I...are you sure?"
"We're sure," Elijah promised her, offering to take the bracelet so he could put it on for her. She grinned as he finished putting the bracelet on her, though they were all confused when they heard music coming from the main room. Walking back together, they saw several men coming down the stairs, playing drums as they went. Scarlett thought that it might be part of the festival, but when they said they were there with a message from Marcel, her stomach dropped.
"Take Davina and go," Elijah warned her.
"Elijah," Scarlett protested, but it was already too late as the lights had gone out, chaos breaking out around them as the men had all cut their hands, making the vampires present at the party go crazy with hunger. She felt Elijah grab her and take her outside, away from the danger that surrounded the party. She wanted to fight him, though she immediately felt better when she saw that he had brought Davina too.
"Take her home with you," Elijah told her.
"You're not coming?" Scarlett asked in confusion as Klaus came outside now with Hayley. "Are you ok Hayley?" Scarlett noticed her head was bleeding.
"I'll be fine," Hayley promised.
"Get them home," Elijah told his brother.
"You think I don't want answers for this?" Klaus asked.
"Just go," Elijah said now; Marcel was his to deal with.
Elijah found Marcel just where he expected, at his place on the other side of New Orleans with Thierry. He didn't bother to come in and surprise them, shouting at Marcel as he entered before flinging Thierry across the room like he was nothing. He heard them talk about their entire plan as he came up to the apartment, how this was just the start of things, a warning before the real mess started.
"Are you gonna kill me?" Marcel asked him.
"I should do worse," Elijah answered, his tone deathly serious. "Do you realize what you could have done tonight? Scarlett was there with Davina."
"And I knew Scar would get Davina out," Marcel told him, not understanding. Scarlett was a vampire, the stunt was vampires attacking humans. She might have gotten beat up a little in the process, but Scarlett was a big girl and she would obviously heal quickly. Before he said anything though, Elijah grabbed Marcel by the shirt and threw him up against a nearby wall.
"She's pregnant," Elijah told him now through his teeth; Marcel had a different look now.
"If you think I'd do something that'd hurt her or her kid you're crazy," Marcel informed him.
"You just being in the quarter is a danger to her," Elijah said back. "I guess I didn't make myself clear before."
"Do you want to do that test I did to find out about my daughter?" Hayley offered. She was like Scarlett, she hated waiting. They didn't know exactly where Elijah had gone off too, but they had a good idea of where.
"Ah, the test Sabine-slash-Natalie performed on you," Scarlett said lightly, getting a smile. "No thanks, that kinda creeps me out."
"I can tell you what it is," Davina told her now. "Whenever Elijah gets back." They all looked over when they heard someone coming into the compound, but it was Savannah stumbling in on her own.
"Oh, Hayley's here too!" Savannah smiled, hugging her once.
"Hi," Hayley laughed awkwardly, hugging her back. "You're..." She shrugged as she gave up on finding a way to say it. "Really hammered."
"Like just this much," Savannah held her fingers an inch apart, joining Scarlett on the couch. "So, is this a pregnant girl pow wow or something?" she laughed, then look around. "Where's the baby daddies?" She thought about it. "Well, yours," she pointed at Scarlett. "Not yours," she pointed at Hayley. "No offense."
"None taken," Hayley told her. "Look, Jackson's here, he's gonna take me back home. Are you sure you're ok?"
"Yeah, we're fine," Scarlett promised, getting up to hug her.
"Ok, we'll talk tomorrow," Hayley said as she left.
"Sav," Scarlett turned to her friend now.
"Yep?" Savannah drunkenly asked as she laid down on the couch.
"Did you know what Marcel was doing tonight?" Scarlett asked curiously.
"Ah, some top secret thing with Thierry," Savannah shrugged. "He really doesn't tell me anything." She rolled her eyes. "It's very big brother-y of him, doesn't want me to get into trouble or whatever." She sat up, looking at Scarlett curiously. "What happened tonight?" Elijah returned home now, exhaustion on his face; they noticed the blood on his shirt. No one said what they were thinking, but Savannah did show them when her phone lit up with Marcel's name; he was calling her, but why?
"Can I talk to you Scarlett?" Elijah asked her now and she nodded.
"Um, Sav, you wanna stay over tonight?" Scarlett offered and Savannah gave in, not in much shape to go anywhere. With Davina and Savannah going off to the guest rooms, Scarlett followed Elijah to their bedroom before he silently shut the door behind him.
"You saw Marcel tonight," she observed softly. No, she and Marcel weren't on great terms. No, she didn't want to be with him. But, she didn't want him dead.
"I did," Elijah nodded.
"But...you just fought," Scarlett said and he shook his head. "He was calling Savi-"
"It was Thierry," he stopped her and she didn't say anything. That was why Marcel was calling Savannah, he was upset over Thierry's death and needed a friend. "He wasn't supposed to come back here."
"I know," Scarlett nodded in agreement.
"He put you and our baby in danger tonight with his stunt," Elijah continued.
"I know," she agreed again.
"Then why are you looking at me like that?" he asked her curiously, unable to place her feelings judging by her face. Instead of answering she pulled the small felt box he had been carrying all night in his pocket from her bag.
"You dropped this," Scarlett told him, meaning when he took her and Davina away from the party that night.
"I..."
"Are you going to ask me?" she smiled at him as he seemed nervous now. She knew this had to do with the baby, that his traditional manner would bring them here; and she was thrilled about it. He answered her question by getting down on one knee.
"Scarlett, will you marry me?" he asked her. Instead of answer him, she nearly took him out on the floor as she tackled him and kissed him.
