CHAPTER 20

Draco Malfoy was not one for drama but he specifically asked his House Elves to prepare the sunroom. It had been gathering dust since Astoria kept on passing off breakfast and he kept eating inside his room alone. He really was getting miserable, wasn't he? He looked down at the windowsill where his hand was resting and recalled better days. Astoria used to sing to Scorpius and their beloved son would always sidle up between them. It was at this very sunroom years past. He didn't want to admit it but there were good times before things went sour.

He sighed and peered out into their wide and green yard. It was around this time that the place was luscious. He smiled remembering Scorpius riding his broomstick around the area. That boy was all he could have that made life worth living. His smile was slowly wiped off from his face. How would their son react when he finds out his mother was dating someone else. His friend's father no less.

A clink alerted him that the table was set and he smiled, "Thank you, Beastly," he looked at the little creature near him. "This looks divine as always," not a very Malfoy thing to do but Granger's word struck him. Their lot really were abusive of these elves. He wanted so bad to tell her it was not the case anymore.

A rapping on the window alerted him of the custard-colored owl. He frowned looking at the white sheet wrapped sweetly with a pink bow. How fast was that response? It was just last night he wrote and sent the letter and no sooner than breakfast did he get a reply. Sighing, he made himself open the window and the owl swooped in and dropped the rolled up letter unto the floral couch. He gave the owl some food before sending it off to Merlin knows where.

It was time. He slowly took the letter and stared at it intently when he heard a soft ho-hum from the doorway. Raising his head, he paused minutely before reminding himself to keep his composure. In front of him stood Granger, her face softer and her hair in a soft bun. She wore the most beautiful dress he didn't recall Astoria having. It was only until she spoke that he was woken up from that small trance. Beastly, knowing to well his master, silently disappeared into thin air.

"What do you have there?" he voice, filled with questioning as her chin nodded towards the letter in his hands. He noticed a slight blush and a little consciousness about her and he cleared her throat. The last thing he wanted was for her to be packing her things and leaving his place.

"I-it's from To—Astoria," Draco said, frowning and feeling the bile rise in his stomach. "I wrote to her last night." He tried to sound casual but knew she heard the crack in his voice.

She strode smoothly towards him and it made his heart jerk a little. "Well, open it then," her hand rose to his shoulder as support but little did she know it was more than enough for Draco.
