Unexpected Surprises
It's Thursday evening, a slow night in the café. Sprinkles of folks dotted here and there, in for a spot of coffee or early dinner after a long day at work.
Kiba wiped off a dirty table from one of the departed customers and absentmindedly tucked the few crumbled dollars in his pocket. So many horrifying scenarios played out in his mind and none of them ended well concerning the coming weekend. He should've gotten past these stomach churning fears by now, but . . . damn it, he felt he was justified.
No one, no matter how long it's plagued them, can easily transfer from a straight life to one with someone of the same sex and not have those scary worries plowing their brain. You'll worry about ridicule, the fear of judgment and lack of acceptance from society. Who cared if society's learned to accept homosexuality a great deal better than they had years prior? The fact still remains that there are those that still linger in the more traditional fashion of man and woman belonging together.
Kiba used to believe he was one of those people until Neji. Here he believed that he, Kiba Inuzuka, was destined to be the straightest of the straight and the kind of guy who could charm any woman out of her panties if he presented a little more of his tough guy side. But now that entire equations been erupted because of Neji Hyuuga.
Kiba sighed, slowing crinkling the dishrag between his fingers. They had a good thing going for them. Besides that slight mishap with Itachi—which Kiba had no intentions of repeating for as long as he lived—there was nothing kept between them. Kiba poured out his entire life to Neji, something he'd only ever shared with Naruto.
Neji went so far as to welcome Kiba into his and his daughter's life, flaws and all. The trust defined behind that gesture spoke volumes of the trust granted Kiba. That's an honor rarely bestowed anyone. Kiba could tell that much over the couple of years they'd known one another. Neji didn't just let anyone into his bubble. Anyone granted that privilege were blessed in Kiba's opinion and he kind of felt he was.
Then there's Neji himself. He's something . . . something else. Something Kiba never expected the man to become such a rapidly growing difference in his life. In fact, while Kiba finished sweeping the last bit of crumbs off the table, he realized that he can't remembered the past when Neji hadn't been there. Whether negative, positive or neutral, he's become a constant in the few years they've known one another. They argued, they fought, they insulted one another, and during seldom moments, were there to back the other up.
Kiba slapped the rag on the table top, suddenly annoyed with all the stupid thinking he's been doing lately. It shouldn't have to be all of this, this bottled up anxiety boiling like a pot of coffee in his belly. Kiba didn't want to put all the blame on Neji, but damn it, he had a right to do. Kiba's never had to deal with this kind of junk before. It brought about a brief moment of wondering if all of this worrying was worth going through.
He slid into the booth and glared out at the beautiful day. Specks of sunlight broke through the cover of grey clouds overcasting the sky. The sky's mellow mood made him remember Neji's calm demeanor, how he always manages to keep his cool. But Kiba can admit he possesses the ability to crack that coolness with ease and it puts him in a good mood.
The temperature's perfect; not too cold, not too hot; one of the few rare days people didn't have to bundle up for, but wore a light jacket anyway. His shift ended in an hour. Customers weren't as frequent around this time. He appreciated the quiet for now.
When the weekend arrives, everyone they cared about will know the truth. It'll be in the open. Kiba had agreed to this. At the time, it didn't seem like such a big whoop, but was he ready for that step? For Naruto to see him being in a somewhat functional relationship with Neji? Kiba could give a rat's ass about Sasuke's opinion. He was just a backseat rider in this.
Kiba softly frowns at a peculiar thought. He wondered how Neji could be so fine with telling others that he was with Kiba now. Wasn't there any kind of hesitation or thought about how they would be perceived? They were practically at each other's throats. Now they were kissing each other's throats.
Or well, they hadn't quite reached that part yet. And there lies another big problem. Eventually, Kiba knew that with many relationships there will come a time when they reach a new level where certain physical affection will come to ahead. Kissing, hugging and holding hands is one thing. Doing—well, doing that, was a brand new ball field for Kiba.
For goodness sakes, how the Hell is it even done? And more importantly just who in the Hell would be on the receiving end? Because if Neji believed he'd be ramming his Johnson up Kiba's port, that pale faced dick had another thing coming. Kiba Inuzuka bends over and perks his ass cheeks for no one, thank you very much.
"Kiba, you feeling alright? Your face's all red."
Kiba started, whipping his head around to find Sakura sliding into the opposite of the booth, folding her arms across the table top. He lifts his eyebrow at her questionably and she shrugs, then motions at his cheeks. Kiba leans away from the window to make his reflection more noticeable and sure enough, he could make out the faint view him with flushed cheeks.
"What are you still doin' here," he questions while rubbing over his cheeks to quail the blush. "Your shift's over isn't it?"
"Yeah and I had every intention of going home to watch reruns and dine a bucket of ice cream," Sakura shrugged. "But then I saw you over here looking like the puppy stuck behind the window on a rainy day and so, here I am. Your shoulder to cry on."
Kiba scoffs. "I don't need a shoulder, Pink. M' no whiny chick. Go find something more productive to do other than gettin' in my business."
Sakura huffs amused. "Well, well, well, someone's touchy. OK, so I admit I'm being a little bit nosey, but I am concerned, Kiba. You haven't been yourself all day. Like you got the whole world and another on your shoulders."
"Tell me about it . . . it damn sure feels that way."
Kiba sighs, cupping a hand under his chin as he cast his gaze towards the window again. It wasn't that he didn't trust Sakura to blab his business out to the entire city. He's confided in her numerous times if just to get the disquieted pressure from consuming him whole. This time, he wasn't so sure he could do the same. How could someone like her really understand? This wasn't like all the other times. Like fixing a fight with Naruto, worrying about paying his bills or feeding Akamaru, feeling sick, or something so trivial.
This involved his gradual emotional attachment for someone who not long had he'd considered a pompous dick.
"Wow, you've really got it bad huh? It's gotta be over someone."
Kiba jolts out of his thoughts like someone smacked him and stares wide eyed at Sakura. He hadn't been thinking out loud had he?
She gestures towards him. "It's kind all over your face. Plus, I'm a chick. We kinda wear the same expression when it's someone else's fault we feel down." Sakura pushes her purse against the wall before clasping her hands on the table and motioned for Kiba to start talking.
Heaving a long sigh, Kiba resolved himself to giving in. He'd spare all vital details and keep it vague. No need to bring her neck deep in his issues.
"Right, so recently I started seein' somebody who until now I used to think low of. I mean, we couldn't go a day without arguing over the silliest bullshit. Lately though, this person hasn't been so much a dick . . . but more," Kiba's cheeks warm softly at the word that leaves his lips, "more of a sweetheart. They're attentive, a good listener, smart as a whip and . . . kind of has a sweet ass."
Sakura hums to acknowledge she's listening and fails to keep the whimsical smile off her face, much to Kiba's annoyance. He ignores it and keeps speaking.
"We're supposed to be headin' out of town this weekend with Naruto, Sasuke and the kids to, ya know, get away and chill. S' not supposed to be anything pressuring or stressful, but that's all I feel now. This person doesn't feel we should hide our relationship from the others. I don't either. We don't have anything to be ashamed of, but. . ."
"But what?" Sakura gently urges.
Kiba looks at her a moment before rubbing a hand over his eyes. "I dunno. I . . . no, I think I do know. We made a promise back when we first started this—this thing between us. That once we started, we'd see it until the very in. No backing out. When this weekend comes around, we aren't gonna keep it secret. Once Naruto knows, I guess it makes it feel more permanent.
"Does that bother you?"
"It scares me," Kiba said truthfully. "Like the hammer's gonna nail this in deep. I don't wanna make a mistake from there on. I don't wanna be the one to mess it up and cause it to break apart. You know I'm a hard person to deal with when I get a temper."
"Pfft, no kidding. You're downright impossible."
Kiba shoots her an unfriendly look. Then says, "And for the record, don't go thinkin' I have abandonment issues or anything like that!" Because he absolutely despises being pitied.
"Get real, Kiba, I swear you men couldn't be more transparent when it comes to your feelings. The hell do you think you're so scared for? That's the very reason. You do have abandonment issues, but it's to be expected . . . you didn't exactly grow up a glamorous lifestyle. It wasn't until you met Naruto that you started to believe there were people out there who cared whether you existed. Now to have someone else feel that way makes you afraid . . . because it's a bond you don't think you could lose once it's made."
And this is exactly why chicks like Sakura make him sick to his stomach. They were so perceptive and dead balls accurate on their analyzing that that kind of skill should be bottled up and made illegal. He angrily stares at the table. Being angry has always made it easier to deal with his problems. But he couldn't hold the frown for long. Because she was right. And scarily so.
"What do I do then?"
Sakura rests her cheek against the back of her knuckles while her other hand occupied itself with lazily drawing circles on the table top. "I know it sounds too simple, but it won't be for you. Don't overwhelm yourself with trying to make your relationship with this person perfect. I can't tell you how many times I've seen those plans blow up in people's faces because they never realize that the one they like prefers them the way they are. Obviously this guy thinks you're awesome just being you. So just deal and keep it that way."
"Yeah I suppose," Kiba slowly concedes. For a long, stretch of silence, he replays what's said and realizes she's so right, but too fucking observant. His dark eyes snap up, shocked. "Guy? What do you mean guy? What guy? I didn't say anything about this person bein' a dude!"
"Oh please Kiba," Sakura rolls her eyes. "That time I saw you hit Naruto's butt in the kitchen and kiss his cheek for his last birthday, I knew you were either closet or gonna be out eventually."
"But that—that's strictly platonic!"
"Whatever, not that it really matters. People don't really care whether you're with a man or woman nowadays. All that you should worry about is whether he mays you happy, right?"
Kiba nods jerkily.
"There then," she says kindly. "But now that you know how you feel, you might wanna talk to this guy and see how he's doing. Who knows? He might be feeling just as doubtful as you."
"Not a chance. Not him. . . At least, I don't think he would."
Kiba couldn't think of a guy like Neji have any insecurities. Someone like him could get whatever he asks for because he's so accustomed to it. People too. And if he does have his worries, he certainly hasn't said a word to Kiba about them. But then, who was Kiba to talk.
"Well," Sakura mumbles, gathering her purse, "I'm done playing talk show psychologist. I charge a grand per session, but consider this one amended with an associate's discount. Have five hundred deposited in my account by Monday."
Kiba snorts, flicking his wrist. "You're gonna be waiting a while then."
"If I spent most of my check on nothing but hair products and a bunch of channels, I'd be broke too."
"Bite me, Sakura. The last I heard your whole check went to ice cream and that seedy hair salon down the street."
Sakura's already near the door, cackling at Kiba uncaringly. She flips the middle finger and winks his way before exiting out the door. Kiba throws a smirk at her when she walks by the window and returns the flipped finger.
"Thanks Sakura," he mouths and she blows a kiss.
He felt better, more confident with what's to come now. Now, he actually anticipates the trip and the fun he guaranteed to be had. With a more positive outlook, Kiba grabbed his rag and began to start cleaning the lobby area with new vigor.
Neji sighs and eases on Hinata's denim overalls decorated in pink daisies. Slipping on her socks and shirt weren't much trouble. His child could sleep through a tsunami and not shift or twitch. She slept through him manipulating her lips to pull on her clothing and brushing her hair into a presentable fashion. It's grown longer and he's considered cutting it, but fancied having professional pictures done when spring arrived. She'd be a marvel to behold.
As he tied on the last ribbon to keep her pigtails off her face, Hinata's face squirmed, but she didn't awaken. Not that Neji could blame her. Being an early bird's always been more his forte since he was young. Apparently it's trait not passed down to his daughter. She won't rise until eight and with it being just half past five, he had a long while yet.
Speaking of the time, Kiba should be arriving soon. They'd agreed to meet up at the Hyuuga house in the city and drive to the park together. Neji wanted to pick the lad up, but being the ever stubborn sort, Kiba insisted on coming to Neji instead.
Neji hadn't the drive to keep arguing. He'd allowed Kiba that victory because there wasn't any real heat in their debate. It'd ended on a rather, arousing note. Anticipation warmed inside Neji at the thought of seeing Kiba soon. Being around him brought a kind of thrill Neji hasn't experienced in a long time and dare he believe, this kind of emotion is different from how he felt during his short pursuit for Naruto.
There's more to look forward to then being around Kiba. The change in their relationship and promise for advancement added more purpose to the trip. Their togetherness won't will no longer be private. They won't have to hide what they share for the sake of avoiding pudency. And while public affection isn't something frequently practiced by Neji in the past, he's never been opposed to it. Kiba's recent reaction to them kissing outside meant public kissing may be out of the question for some kind. As for holding hands, arms or other things, Neji will just need to test his limits. Subtly of course. No need to mess up the progress they've made with aggression.
When the last of Hinata's hair is brushed in place, and the wrinkles smoothed from her clothes, Neji does a quick inventory of their luggage and hygiene gear to ensure everything's set. He thinks and packs another pair of girl's panties when the doorbell rings throughout the home. A small smile comes on Neji's lips.
He waits for the bell to ring a second time to prevent seeming too anxious and when it does, Neji access his appearance in the mirror. His reflection shows him wearing a two-toned, navy blue and auburn double breasted shirt, khaki tan cargo shorts, and black sandals. The air is cool enough outside for Neji to tie his hair in a high ponytail with a few loose strands framing his brow. Overall, he felt this style gave him more of an open, carefree demeanor. Something to make him easier to approach.
He glances at Hinata, packs pillows around her, then goes to answer the door. When it's opened, Neji suffers a bit of shock. By now, he's seen Kiba numerous times, and have come to predict his favored attire. Today wasn't any different, but somehow he had thought he would be prepared for the young man's actual presence.
The color scheme was stormy like, mostly consisting of light and dark greys, like his pale grey graphic dragon t-shirt and the dark grey vest worn over it. The dark blue faded jeans add a balanced accent towards the outfit and when Neji's eyes sweep upward, he finds Kiba's spiky brown hair all tucked beneath a cotton beanie with a small bit jutting out. It was new, un-new, interesting and—rather intriguing. Neji rather liked it.
"Hey," says Kiba.
Neji steps to the side. "Hey yourself. You look nice."
"So do you." Kiba doesn't bother hiding just how much he appreciate Neji's choice of clothing when he walks by. "Not bad, I kind of like it. Except one thing."
"Which is?"
Kiba's hand reached out and closed around Neji's wrist. Neji kept his face blank of surprise at the strength used to guide him closer and he didn't mind it one bit since the skin to skin contact stirred a delightful warmth up his arm. Kiba licked his lips in time to leaning forward. His other hand cups behind Neji's neck, fingering at his nap, massaging his fingertips into the confines of his tightly bound hair.
Then there's a rapid release on his hair and all of Neji's hair falls around his shoulders. The pale lavender eyes dart open, startled, but Kiba kisses him before Neji has a chance to question his action.
Neji's eyes flutter shut and he moans. Kiba wants access to his mouth and Neji fully intends to give it to him. Kiba tilts Neji's head to the side with a slow bop and coolly runs his tongue inside and along Neji's bottom lip, while providing a hypnotic massage against Neji's scalp. Neji's hands lower and at first hover directly above Kiba's rear end, but chances it and lays them right there. And squeezes because he hadn't quite taken advantage of feeling this particular part of Kiba just yet. A mistake Neji vows to never, ever ignore again.
Kiba draws back, placing a small kiss on Neji's lips and says softly, "Whoa, babe, save some for the trip. We just got started."
Neji leans forward. "Indeed we have."
"Nah-ah-ah, no way," Kiba playfully pushes Neji away. "I'm actually lookin' forward to this trip and I'm not gonna risk Naruto bitin' my head off because we're late from you bein' a pervert."
"That's presumptuous of you to say, especially you started it." Neji touches at the hair brushing past his shoulders and frowns accusingly at Kiba. "And your reason for this would be?"
Kiba shrugs. "I like it down. Looks better that way." He winks then heads down the hall.
Neji hums at that and flicks the bit of hair from over his shoulder. That's a new fact he'll store away for later usage. Neji didn't know what it was about Kiba now, but his whole demeanor seems different, not as skittish. A kiss was the last thing Neji expected so quickly. He didn't want to look a gifted ape in the mouth, but curiosity was getting the better of him to know why the change.
"Well, well, speak of the devil," Kiba chuckles, reaching behind his back pocket to retrieve his phone. He reveals the name flashing on his screen to Neji, grinning ear to ear. "S' my fault. I talked the kid up. Yeah? Yeah, what do ya want, blondie?" He answers snappishly.
'Well, so much for my interrogation,' Neji thinks, amused. Since that's been put on hold, perhaps he should see to gathering their belongings.
"Gee, what happened to, 'I'm on my way Naruto. No need to rush.' Apparently I do since I've yet to see you at my front door. Damn you sure piss me off you big fat liar—"
Kiba kept the phone pressed into his shoulder, distantly listening to his best friend's ranting. If there was a grand prize for world's best bag, Naruto deserved it. No one can make an ear bleed from sheer screeching the way this guy could. A talent like that should be bottled and sold.
"—I know you flippin' hear me, asshole! Put the phone back to your ear so I can slush your damn brain!"
Kiba rolls his eyes, absently tossing the phone in his hand. No way in hell he's going to give Naruto the satisfaction. He liked being able to hear just fine. Kiba sends an apologetic smile at Neji as the older man passes by carrying his and Hinata's luggage outside.
"Damn it Kiba, where the fuck are you?!"
"Language, Dobe." Kiba hears Sasuke scold in the background and it causes a snicker from the brunet. "The kids are right here."
"Kiss my ass, Sasuke. You're already on my shit list for leaving Gaara's diaper bag on the kitchen counter. Who the hell does that anyway? Some father figure you are!"
Deciding it best to chime in, Kiba blows as hard as he can into the receiving, until Naruto's complaining about his ears being filled with mildew due to Kiba's hot breath.
"Are you done? Because I'm not gonna deal with this bitchy attitude of yours this whole trip, bro."
"Oh, you most certainly are. I already have a lecture ready and waiting for ya as soon as I see you!"
"Fine, whatever, just keep it short." Kiba sighs, checking over his shoulder for Neji's whereabouts before lowering his voice. "I am on my way. I'm catchin' a ride."
"A ride? You could've just asked us to come pick you up. Who are you comin' with?"
"Um, with," Kiba blushes so hard his cheeks burn, "Neji and Hinata."
The astonished silence to follow is unnerving. Kiba would have preferred more of Naruto's yelling to this because there's no telling what's going on in the blonde's head.
"You . . . and Neji. . . comin' here together? Wait, you didn't blackmail him into driving you, did you?"
"What—no, I didn't—" Kiba sucks his teeth. "Bye Naruto!" He ends the call before Naruto has a chance to ask more questions. All that stuff can wait until they arrive.
Kiba's already given himself a mental coaching and a shit ton of motivational speeches to get him through the weekend. He'd braved the waters by kissing Neji as soon as he showed him and that in itself took a feisty shift in what he'd planned. A quick kiss would have suited him just fine, but after a quick taste, Kiba couldn't stop wanting a little more.
They were going to make it through this weekend and come back home with a brand new kind of comfort. They had too. Kiba refused to let himself be the weak link in this relationship and if Neji can be fine with being with him, so could Kiba.
After Kiba pockets his cell, he hurries outside to see whether Neji needs help, but discovers the last of it is being placed in the truck of a rather sweet pearl colored Tahoe. Even his bags were stored away.
"Need any help?" Kiba calls out anyway.
"All that's left is situating Hinata. I left her sleeping in my bedroom."
"No prob, I'll grab her." Kiba turns, pauses, then spins around. "Toss the keys. I'll lock up on my way out."
Neji does after unhook the car key from the ring. Kiba goes back inside with a strange flutter in his belly. He stares at the keys in his hand with pleasant nostalgia. The way they're going about this, it's almost like they'd done this before. Like it's just one of those typical weekends where they go out as a family. The feeling's so homey it reflects plain as day on Kiba's face without him realizing it.
He finds Hinata sleeping on her belly, barricaded by half a dozen pillows and naturally shakes his head. Neji and his overprotective self. Gotta like that about the guy. Kiba's careful to scoop her up and situates her on his shoulder, and gives the bedroom a final sweep in case Neji missed grabbing something.
Nothing from the looks of it. Just in case, Kiba grabs some extra socks and panties for Hinata. It never hurts to have extras. He locks up and heads to the car. The extra clothes are stuffed in her kiddie pack.
"More undergarments?" Neji lifts an eyebrow.
Kiba chuckles. "Never hurts to have an emergency supply." She's buckled in the car seat before Kiba hops in the passenger side. He's so jittery, he can barely sit still.
"You're in a fine mood," Neji remarks once he buckles in. He looks at Kiba curiously, awaiting an explanation.
Kiba shrugs. "Ya know it's just one of those days you can't help feeling happy." He grabs Neji's hand, rubbing a thumb over his the smooth skin between his knuckles. "And I'm feelin' pretty chipper. Kinda obvious why that is, yeah?" He kisses Neji's hand and squeezes.
That will due for Neji. He returns the gesture as well, nuzzling Kiba's hand against his cheek and sends the smallest smile to the other's way. To Kiba, it couldn't have been brighter than it was if Neji had given him a full smile. He could already tell this trip was going to be much more than he anticipated and he looked forward to it.
"Why didn't you guys just come this way instead of going on ahead?!"
"What sense does it to U-turn around to that jerk's house if we're goin' to the same place?!" Kiba shouted into his phone. He wiped a tired hand over his face. Something told him to hit IGNORE, but in the midst of his happy place, he figured giving Naruto a chance to talk wouldn't dampen his mood. Boy, was he unbelievably wrong.
"Because this is a group trip, dummy. And we're supposed to arrive there as a group! Sasuke left the diaper bag so we had to come back to get it. Why not just leave all at once?"
"Come on Naruto," Kiba whined. "Keep it simple. We won't even go into the park until you guys get there. We can chill in the hotel until then."
"I already told the kids that you'd be there to say hi though. . ."
Kiba didn't budge an inch after hearing the fake sadness over the phone. "Tough nuts, bro. Better figure up some way to make it up to them. We'll see you guys there. Peace!"
"Damn it, Kiba—!"
"No Naruto and that's final dude!"
Kiba hangs up for the second time on Naruto and focuses on staring at the scenery bypassing the window. He wasn't going to let Naruto's wacky shenanigans ruin what will be an awesome outing.
"You're upset?" Neji says after a moment.
Kiba huffs. "Annoyed is more like it. I swear the kid's such a pain in the neck. If it isn't his way, it's the highway. S' my fault for spoilin' 'im so much."
"We could circle back. It's hardly trouble."
"Nah, what's the point? It's a waste of gas and time. Naruto's just mad 'cause we got a head start."
"You're not worried about retaliation?"
"From who? Naruto? I wish the kid would jump stupid." Kiba waves off wanting to talk more on the topic and turns around to check on Hinata. She's been quiet since waking an hour ago, just watching the cities and trees sweep by the window on both sides of the car. Kiba smiles softly at her before centering his focus towards the front. "If only Kyuubi and Minato would stay this quiet during road trips. I swear it's always a circus whenever the four of us went anywhere."
"That sounds like a story."
"Oh man, there's like a dozen horror stories I could tell about how I've suffered with those brats; Naruto included. Like the time Minato got sick from eating too much cotton candy and Naruto panicking. Then there's the time we found Kyuubi hiding in the women's backroom. Crap, I hate I lost the picture of Naruto's face when we rode down the water slide. It was priceless. His eyes were all wide and terrified. He swears he didn't wet himself, but I call bull. I smelled pee all the way up to the point when we left and we weren't near any port-a-johns."
Without realizing it, the majority of the drive to the amusement park was spent with Kiba reciting stories of his past mishaps with the Uzumakis. Neji spoke scarcely to question the integrity of a couple of the tales, but after adding more concrete details, Neji became convinced. Some were so funny, Neji cracked a smile or made a chuckle. It looked and sounded nice to see Neji enjoying himself even if it was at Kiba's expense, so the young man made it his mission to keep the ball rolling just to see the light brighten up Neji's face.
Somewhere in the middle of telling stories and enjoying the quiet to follow, Kiba's hand sort Neji's and held it, wiggling his fingers, tracing little circles on his palm and rubbing between his knuckles. This is the happiest Kiba has been in such a long time, he couldn't describe it. Who'd have thought that someone like Neji could bring this feeling out of him? And that of baby girl of course.
Speaking of whom, a couple of times Kiba had to dive into the backseat and figure out a way to help her use the bathroom. After sucking down two apple cartons, he half expected the potty demands to be heard. That'd turned into quite the predicament and required some expert maneuvering before Hinata loudly announced that the pee was going to come whether her father or Kiba were ready or not. A sacrifice was in order and reluctantly, Kiba had to give up the Styrofoam cup holding the coke they got on the way. It was propped beneath her bottom just in time.
"T'ank you, Kiba!" She said happily and returned to looking out the window, pointing at all the sights.
Kiba squeezed back in the passenger's seat and buckled his seatbelt before casting a half attempted smile towards the back. "Yeah, no problem kiddo. Anytime," he mumbled pitifully before it melted into a long sigh. "Anytime."
"It's your fault, you know," Neji murmured. "I told you one apple juice would be enough."
"Come on, the kid was thirsty. She's got plenty packed up. I doubt she'll drink 'em all in three days."
"You've much to learn about Hinata Marie Hyuuga, my dear Kiba. But that aside, thank you for helping her. Goodness knows I was lost as to how to keep her from wetting her clothes."
"Eh, well, I had the practice. Kyuubi knows he can drink his weight in grape juice."
"I'll have to remember to thank the children when we arrive. The practice conducted on them made it easier to help care for my daughter."
Kiba smiled, feeling a tinge of warmth in his cheeks. "S' no biggie. I'd do anything for those brats. Now, it's extended to her." Kiba looks in the rearview mirror at Hinata's round, pudgy face and just like that, wave of happy flutters took flight in his stomach when she smiled back. He tisks his lips. "Hate to say it, but baby girl's officially got me wrapped around her widdle finger. Such a bumper. I'm gonna be Hell towards boys she tries to bring home."
Neji visibly tenses.
Kiba notices, lifting an eyebrow. "Ya good?"
"It's nothing," Neji relaxes a little and the smile to come is the biggest Kiba's ever seen. "It's nothing at all."
"Yeah, sure." Kiba licks his bottom lip. So long as he lived he will never, ever forget that look. He has achieved ultimate success. Neji was smiling. A genuine smile. And damn if he didn't look amazing.
Neji reaches over to grab Kiba's hand and brings it to his lips, kissing a knuckle in turn. "You never cease to amaze me, Kiba."
"Uh, I try," Kiba says, unsure as to what he's done, but goes along with the moment. It's real nice. "You're so welcome."
Neji continues smiling and Kiba sinks into the seat's cushion, staring proudly. He was perfectly content to watch that face until they arrived.
Well, alright then.
Kiba told himself to be understanding about the design of the Uchiha amusement park because to be frank, he expected something small, quaint and mildly entertaining for small children. This place was anything, but those things. Kiba's face was plastered to the window trying to take in as much of the park as Neji drive pass.
People were everywhere; teenagers with friends, families sharing the fun with their families and happy couples. The property extended to the edge of a waterfront and the Uchiha emblem was branded everywhere Kiba could see. Dozens of roller coasters twisted, weaved and rose in intricate manners where the customers could get a view of what awaits them inside. Ferris Wheels could be seen half way over the security fence, carrying families high enough to scope out the park's entirety. This was every kid's dream come true.
It's unfortunate that's all he could see from this point. When they reached the end of it, Kiba stared longingly at the park, close to whimpering inside. He cranes his neck as far back as he can to keep the view it there forever. So close, yet so far. He saw two roller coasters begging him to ride them.
They drove down a small road leading to an upscale hotel, bearing the Uchiha insignia on the front. It's one of the most impressive, luxurious places Kiba's ever laid eyes on. The structure consists mostly of tinted glass and polished steel, and stands well over thirty stories. The parking even looked well kempt, the lawns manicured to perfection and valet keeping an organized system as they neatly parked the cars in numbered spots.
Neji's Tahoe rolls to a stop directly in front of the building where a long black carpet, also holding the Uchiha symbol, led the way to the entrance. The double glass doors opened to three men dressed in impeccable Italian suits came to open their doors and began unloading their luggage from the truck.
Kiba felt out of place being in a pompous place like this. He felt just looking at it would stain its cleanliness. His hands twitched when the gentleman held out his hand. Kiba looked the man up and down before dismissively waving his hand.
"Nah bro, I'm good. Ease back will ya? Makin' me nervous." Kiba hops out on his own and moves the other guy out of the way when he tries to unbuckle Hinata from her seat. He didn't care if the men were paid to do this. Like hell he was going to let them touch her. "Neji, you want us to go on in?"
"Just a moment," Neji comes around, stuffing the parking decal in his back pocket and comes to rest his hand on the small of Kiba's back. "Now we can go."
They enter the establishment and just like the outside, it's paradise on the inside. The lobby's a cavernous with a jet black and off white color scheme, from the black carpeting to the cream colored couches and loveseats. An enormous chandelier brilliantly glows overhead, sparkling like a diamond gala. Straight ahead is a multilayered cobblestone fountain spilling clear water that glistened just right off the overhead lightings. To the left of the lobby is a darkly lit restaurant that's name even sounds expensive: Empire. The herbal, spicy smells emanating from the joint left a yearning on Kiba's tongue to give a try.
Kiba swallowed annoyingly at the well-dressed employees smiling his way. This whole place stunk of stuck-up douches. He sighs when they reach the front desk and steps aside to let Neji handle the checking-in while he took in more of the place. In a bored fit, Hinata took it upon herself to place squishy kisses on both cheeks until they were sopping wet.
"Quit it, brat. Sheesh" he grumbled, cleaning off his face. Hinata wrapped her arms around his neck and simply nuzzles under his chin.
"Thank you," Kiba hears Neji say to the receptionist is glad to see him. "Ready?"
"Yeah, where to?"
Neji nods to the right. "We're on the thirtieth floor."
"Way up there?!" Kiba exclaims as they're guided to the elevators. "Neji, this must've cost a grip. Isn't that the pent house suite?"
Neji ushers them inside the steel elevator and presses for their floor. "It's nothing."
"Nothing? This place looks and smells like a year's worth of rent. How much is Sasuke charging us to stay in this place?"
"Nothing," Neji repeats casually. "I'm never charged to stay here."
"Why? Special best friend discount?"
"There's that," Neji says, pauses, then adds. "It does help that my family's the second leading financial support funding this and the park. I should very well hope I'm not giving trouble when I ask to come. The top two floors are strictly reserved for the families who have shares here."
Kiba blanches. The second to the Uchihas? He knew Neji had money, knew he was well off. But the magnitude of it was just hitting Kiba. He was almost afraid to know the guy's net worth. Kiba vaguely wondered if Naruto were a little intimidated by Sasuke's wealth. It made Kiba feel heavily indebted to Neji for putting up the expenses for the trip.
"Please don't do that."
Kiba snaps out of his thoughts to look at Neji. "Do what?"
"I remember you having that same expression the day you arrived at my country estate. Try not to think too much into it."
"Easier said than done."
The hand on Kiba's back slides up to cup his hip and pulls him into Neji's side. "Kiba, if you're worried about compensating me for this trip—"
"Ha, I sure hope not dude. It'll take me five lifetimes to do that—"
"—then you needn't worry about it," Neji continues and nuzzles Kiba's cheek. "I care enough about you to give you whatever you desire. I know you wouldn't take advantage of me."
"No, a'course not. It's just . . . it's so much. And now I'm just figuring out how much you're worth. That's gonna take some gettin' used to."
"Hmm."
The double doors binge and glide open to a long hallway. Kiba counted ten rooms to this floor as he followed Neji out. He thought about their conversation and asked. "You said other families fund this place? Who else besides you and Sasuke?"
Neji pulls out his key card and slides it in it's slot. He grabs the handle before answering. "There's the Uchihas, my family, the Hatakes, and the Senjus."
They filed inside the foyer and boy, Kiba tried his hardest not to gawk at the sheer size and décor of the room, but he failed miserably. It was gorgeous. Every square foot was colored pristine white and rich burgundy. The furnishing, walls, ceiling, all it complimented each other. It led into three steps dipping another living space with an embedded flat screen television in the wall. A spacious bar area, holding a variety of alcohols on the walls sat tucked in a corner. The curtains were pulled to the side with ceiling to floor windows spread open to an awesome view of the amusement park. The balcony was fenced around cast iron and possessed a small Jacuzzi fit for five people to join without crowding.
The bedroom, two bathrooms and kitchen were equally grand. Hinata squirmed to be put down and once her feet hit the floor, she took off to the center of the living room and spun in place until dizziness dropped her to the floor. Kiba blinked at her.
'Silly kid,' he thinks fondly. But why let her enjoy the splendor? Kiba wasn't about to let this chance go to waste and ambles over to stand outside. The view steals his breath away. It's captivating, seeing the distant city's terrain line the horizon. Listening to the excitement erupt from the amusement park made him twice as eager to get there. He couldn't wait to bask in the fun to come.
The sudden sensational scent of cologne coils insides Kiba's nostrils and when he turns, Neji's already behind him, his body heat sinking straight through Kiba's shirt. Neji's chin rests on the younger man's shoulder and purrs into his neck, "I think I enjoy the view here more so then the scenery."
That sinfully provocative tone shoots vibrations through Kiba's throat like a tuning fork. "Keep it up, we won't be leavin' the room."
"I'm not entirely opposed to the idea."
"Yeah, but we have a very impressible toddler who's gonna be wonderin' why her daddy's eatin' her friend."
Neji actually looks ready to renege on any naughty play until Kiba twists his torso around and plants a kiss on his jaw. But Neji doesn't let him get far and grabs his chin to angle it up for a proper kiss.
From the small distraction, neither adult hears the knock on their room door and poorly forget about the little girl inside.
"Daddy, K'ba! Door!"
Neither answers. The door is knocked on again. Hinata takes it upon herself to go answer. She tip toes up, fingertips grazing the door's handle until she grasps the end and pulls downward.
The door slides open, revealing more friends to play with.
Kyuubi springs through first, squealing, "Hinata!" He hugs her tight and spins. Minato runs inside to join in the hug, laughing and cheering after seeing their friend again.
"Hinata answered?" Naruto walks inside with Gaara holding his hand and shrugs off his bag, frowning. "Where the hell are Kiba and Neji? Hinata, babes, ya know not to answer the door without an adult around. What if someone snatched you up and ran off?"
"Then I'd have the entire country after the culprit responsible," Sasuke says closing the door behind. "I pity the idiot who dares a lay a finger on these kids."
"Oh, you're so scary." Naruto grumbles, still pissed and asks Hinata again. "Where are they?"
Hinata points towards the balcony and immediately goes back to sharing kiddie chats with the young boys. Naruto drops all of their belongings by the door before stomping off in the direction Hinata showed him. What the hell could those be possibly doing that they didn't hear the door? There's no TV, no loud music, nothing.
So what. . .
"You have got to be kidding me!"
Kiba jumps at the loud screech behind them and turns wide, shocked eyes on his best friend. He tries to back away on impulse, but Neji's arms stay firmly planted where they were; wrapped tight around Kiba's waist with one hand cupping an ass cheek.
Naruto's blue eyes expand to the size of dinner plates, looking at every single bit of what's before him.
Kiba's kissing Neji.
Neji's kissing Kiba.
Neji's got a hunk of ass in his hands.
These two are necking.
The shittest grin grows on his face. "Oh, this is gonna be good. I can't wait to hear how this started. Sasuke, say Sasuke. You won't believe what I just caught this two doing!" Naruto's already escaped into the room before Kiba has a chance to stop him.
Kiba gapes. That wasn't how he'd wanted their relationship to be found out. He'd wanted tact, delicacy, maturity . . . now that's all shot to hell. He drops his face into Neji's chest, moaning.
"Are you alright?"
Kiba's chuckle comes out muffled against Neji's chest. "I will be. S' just, ugh—damn it. Thanks Naruto for ruinin' a good moment."
"He was going to find out anyway."
"I would have preferred he found out in a quieter manner. Oh well," Kiba leans back to kiss Neji's chin. "Guess we gotta go face the music." He grabs Neji's hand and drags him inside to deal with the interrogation to come as well.
If only that were all he had to deal with. The instant Kiba step off the balcony and into the living room. Sasuke's sitting on the couch, listening to Naruto's rant. The children are all on the floor chatting it up like long lost pals.
. . . Kakashi was there. This unexpected visitor, Kiba could deal with. However, the person he was sharing a drink by the bar . . . not so much.
And Kiba felt his stomach bottom out the moment Itachi's deep black eyes turned his way.
