One Year Later
Serena stumbled around her apartment as she searched for her car keys. She was 6 months into her new job as a secretary at one of the large companies in the centre of the city. This time, she'd checked the place out first, making sure she didn't get abducted by mutants like the last time.
Like the last time.
The thought was so vague: nonchalant even, as if what happened held no significance at all. As if it hadn't changed her life. Serena tried not to think about it, or about him. Although, that was difficult since she was constantly surrounded by people she'd met through him. After what happened, Raven had wished Erik the best but parted from him, getting a teaching position at Charles's school along with Riptide and Azazel. Emma and Damian had decided to leave together, as Emma wanted to find her sister and Damian had nothing better to do. Plus his dislike of Erik wasn't exactly encouraging him to stick around.
Azazel worked closely with Kurt to help him master teleportation. Serena couldn't help but notice that Azazel and Raven had been spending a lot of time together. Raven sometimes helped him guide Kurt with his training. When they were all together, Serena reckoned that they looked like a little family. Especially since Kurt looked so much like Azazel and Raven.
Eventually Serena had a hunch, but she didn't actually put two and two together until she'd forced it out of Raven.
"Serena please leave it." Raven had snapped through gritted teeth, when Serena had mentioned it one morning.
"I am sorry but its so strange I-
Serena's words died in her throat as she caught the distraught expression that flashed across Raven's face.
"Raven?" Serena asked, concerned.
A tear trickled down Raven's face, while Serena just stood there, stricken. She'd never seen Raven cry before.
"Raven what is it?" Serena pleaded as she clutched her friends arm.
There was a pause before, Raven said the words that surprised Serena to her core.
"Serena, Kurt is my son."
Shock cursed through Serena's body, her brain wondering if she'd heard correctly.
"Wha-how?!" Serena demanded.
Raven looked down, bowing her head in shame.
"I was 15 when I met Azazel at a party. Charles was out and I just wanted to feel normal for once. He walked in on me in the bathroom, where I was in my true form. I panicked, but when I saw him I was overwhelmed. I'd never met another mutant other than Charles before. He told me I was beautiful. One thing led to another and that was it." Raven explained sadly.
"Who else knows?"
"Charles. He helped deliver the baby and found a nice mutant family to take him in. When I left Charles, I told him to find Kurt and bring him up to the school. He kept his promise."
Serena's head spun at the new information. However, she had a feeling that there was more to the story. Some bits just didn't add up.
"But Raven, you can't be more than in your late 20's, which means that Kurt should be under 10 years old. Why does he look like a 17 year old?" She asked
"The combination of mine and Azazel's DNA caused him to grow at an exponential rate. So even through her under 10 years old, he has the body and mind of a 17 year old." Raven explained.
Serena pulled her friend into a hug, unable to imagine the pain she went through. After a few moments, Serena released Raven and looked at her sadly.
"So are you going to tell quart?" She questioned.
"Eventually. Azazel and I have to decided to build a relationship with him first." Raven sighed.
Serena nodded, sensing that was all she wished to say on the matter. Raven got up then and tried to help Serena look for her car keys. On her way to work, Serena normally gave Raven a lift up to Charles's school. They found they keys 10 minutes later, and just as they were about to walk out the door, a knock on the door halted them.
Both of them froze, wondering who it could be.
Serena opened the door and gasped in shock.
Standing there, his hair in disarray, but his expression calm and open, was Erik.
Her body reacted instantly to seeing him, as her heartbeat quickened and she felt the urge to wrap her arms around him. It felt as if she'd been electrocuted; her whole body tingled with anticipation. It had been so long and yet he looked exactly the same, and completely different at the same time.
His expression was kinder: his demeanour more open and his gaze was fixed directly on Serena.
"Raven." He acknowledged, without looking away from Serena.
"Erik." Raven said warily.
She couldn't help but wonder whether Erik's return would be good or bad for her friend. Erik was volatile. But judging from the way he was looking at Serena, maybe none of that mattered anymore.
Raven tapped Serena on her shoulder.
"I'll be waiting in the car." She told her.
Serena nodded, unable to speak as Raven closed the door, leaving her and Erik alone.
"Erik." Serena breathed. "I-
Erik held a hand up to cut her off. Serena swallowed her annoyance and crossed her arms, waiting for him to justify his actions.
"Please. Let me go first. Serena, this past year not a day has gone by where I haven't thought about you. And because of this, I've tried to be a better man. I have been finding young mutants and teaching them how to protect themselves. Not in the same way as Charles, but I help them the only way I can." Erik confessed.
Serena was speechless, not knowing what to say to that. But as it turns out, She didn't have to because Erik wasn't finished.
"So what I am trying to say is that I've done better. For you. I hav not changed myself, only my actions. I am sorry for everything I out you through and I ask you now, will you come with me? And stay. Will you stay with me?" Erik asked, his tone gentle with a hint of nerves breaking through.
Serena honestly felt as if she were stuck in a dream. One of those perfect, consuming dreams that made you forget everything. But, Erik was everything. And she wasn't about to let that go, For the first time in a year, her body was alive with elation.
"Yes, Erik I never stopped loving you. I will stay with you." Serena smiled.
The smile that spread across Erik's face at her words was one she'd never seen before. It was pure unadulterated joy.
Erik pulled her into him, his arms wound tightly around her torso as he pressed her into his body. They fit together perfectly.
It was then that they both knew they were exactly where they were supposed to be. Erik suddenly realised how stupid he was for wanting to kill humans. How could he kill a race that had produced Serena? For once in his life, he silently thanked the humans for bringing Serena into his life, and making everything fall into place.
Just another note. I do not own the plot for Kurt being Azazel and Raven's son. That is actually in the comics. But I did make up how she got pregnant with him and blah blah blah.
Anyway goodbye everyone :P
