"He gave you a ring? Like an engagement ring?" Caroline asked while hooking up her red bra with no straps.
"No… it's not like that… I mean, I don't know if it is…" Lexi was confused.
Caroline laughed and looked over to the bed where her phone was.
"It's all very complicated, he wants to court me but really, who courts someone in the year 2014?"
"Elijah." she replied with a smile and picked up her beautiful long satin red gown.
"Let me rephrase it, who courts someone during the day but then has her repeating his name at night with all of his Original moves?"
"Elijah." Caroline said with a louder laughter.
She tried to reach the zipper in the back of her gown but two strong hands caught it before she had to carry out that stunt, Caroline smiled when she felt his body in her back.
Slowly Klaus pulled that zipper up and she had to catch her breath, not because the dress was too tight but because he messed that much with her.
"I rather be taking this off instead of helping you get into it." he whispered in her ear and then placed a soft kiss on her bare shoulder.
Caroline closed her eyes for a moment. "Patience Nik… the night is still beginning for us…" she turned her head to look at him with a smile.
His hands caressed her shoulders while he leaned in for a kiss.
"As soon as I start listening to strange panting sounds, I'm hanging up."
Klaus smiled. "Hello Lexi."
"Hey Klaus… how's Rome?"
"We are going to the Opera tonight." Klaus said while stepping away from Caroline and grabbing his suit jacket.
"Sounds… boring."
Klaus chuckled. "I find it quite entertaining."
"So do I." Caroline judged her sister. "How's mom?"
"She's all right… she's busy making pancakes and keeping an eye on E, making sure that Damon doesn't turn her. Rose is still around annoying everyone and making Elena jealous, she says that she's sticking around for the next 500 years because she doesn't have anything better to do, if you ask me that's as lame as someone can get. Oh, and Kat called from San Francisco last week, she's trying Stefan's new diet… but she's going mental about the bunnies and whatnot…"
Caroline used Klaus' arm to support herself as she stepped into her high platform sandals. "Have you heard from dad?"
"No… and I think that Elijah is planing on taking the Mayor vacancy soon." Lexi grumbled upset.
"Why are you grumpy? You will be the First Lady." Caroline teased her.
"You are spending way too much time with Kol."
"And you're starting to sound a bit like Elijah." Klaus chuckled.
"You guys are not funny at all."
"I really miss you Lexi…" Caroline sighed. "I'll try to swing by Mystic Falls before we go over to Dubai."
"I miss you too Care… uh, I need to go, Elijah is in the kitchen with mom and I'm scared that he will ask for her to chaperon our dates."
"Bye Lexi, I love you." Caroline said before ending the call.
"Elijah is asking for Lexi's hand tonight." Klaus said amused.
"I know." Caroline laughed. "He told me yesterday."
"I'm happy that he eased up towards Kol and I…" Klaus said with a sad smile.
Caroline knew the name of the gloom behind his smile. "It's been two years already Nik… Rebekah will show up at our doorstep soon…"
He looked at the stunning woman in front of him. "She won't but I love you for saying it."
Caroline had a small step to bring herself closer to him and kissed him, although it was only a peck because she didn't want to ruin the makeup and the look that took her an hour to perfect.
Klaus didn't want to upset her so he restrained from messing up her bouncy curls.
She glided her hand across his white classical shirt. "You look dashing Nik…"
He stroked her chin. "And you look beautiful."
She gave him that smile that was self-conscious but elated that he still found her beautiful and that he said it every day. "Are you ready?" she asked him while picking up her expensive long coat.
"You seem to be missing something sweetheart."
She frowned. "I am?" She looked down on herself and then at her wrist, she had everything, even her bracelet.
Klaus smiled and took a picture from inside of his jacket.
She wasn't expecting much when he handed her the picture but her reaction came instantly when she saw her dad and Tyler holding a huge fish in their hands and she smiled emotional.
They had left Mystic Falls together for almost a year now, they left decided on building a son and father relationship and no one really knew anything from them after that, the last that Carol heard was that they were planing on climbing K2 together and live in China for a few years.
"In his letter Tyler mentioned that whenever there was a full moon he and my dad went to one of the mountains where he was free to shift without worrying about hurting someone." Caroline moved her thumb over their faces with a lump in her throat.
"I found them in a village in Kazakhstan where they have a small cottage and where they intend to stay. Tyler says that he found his peace there, in the middle of literally nothing."
"I bet he found himself a beautiful girl from the village who doesn't know how lucky she is to have him." Caroline crumbled her lips to stop the sting in her eyes.
"He says that he misses his fearless blonde keeper during the full moon." Klaus softly transmitted the message.
Caroline laughed affected by it and she held back her tears for now.
Sweetly Klaus left a long kiss on her cheek. "That's from your father." He whispered, remaining as he was.
Caroline clutched his arm and silently cried leaning against him. "Thank you…" she whispered gaining her control back and pushing away the tears.
He helped her clean them and smiled. "That's what was missing, that amazing sparkle in your eyes."
Caroline laced one hand around his neck and kissed him deeply, not caring about her lipstick now she kissed him stroking his stubble and thankful to have him in her life.
"We are going to be late." Kol grunted from the door.
Caroline smiled breaking the kiss, she looked at Klaus with love and before she pulled away she ran her thumb over his lower lip cleaning the red mark left from her lipstick.
Klaus returned the look of love and squeezed her hand gently before she went to the bathroom to fix her makeup.
"Are they ready?" Bonnie asked from the hallway while closing her clutch.
"They are busy pre-making out." Kol replied with a sigh.
Bonnie squinted at him.
"You know… doing that thing we do as soon as we get home and you decide to walk around the bedroom in your steamy underwear..." his eyes seemed to drift as much as his thoughts.
She slapped his shoulder. "Well maybe you are going to sleep on the guest room tonight."
"Uh, a change of scenery, I love it." he said excited.
Bonnie couldn't help the laughter. "You know that I meant alone."
Klaus helped Caroline with her long coat and stepped outside of his bedroom with her. "Do you ever think about anything else but sex Kol?"
"We've been travelling and living together for two years now… do you need an answer for that one?"
"No!" the girls answered at the same time.
Kol shrugged and offered his arm to Bonnie.
She took it with a smile and loved when he kissed her cheek and said how stunning she looked tonight in her green dress.
Klaus offered his arm to Caroline as well and the four of them made their way down the staircase.
Caroline was happy, even beaming, they all looked dashing on their way to attend one of her favorite things, an opera show and they were all as close as ever, they had found a sense of family and normality together and although they were all very different from each other, their personalities were a perfect balance for the small group.
"Are you humming… Mission Impossible Kol?" Caroline asked when they reached the front door.
Kol winked at her. "It's the black suit and the tie." he said fixing his inspiring attire.
Everyone laughed except Klaus, he was checking his buzzing phone instead.
Caroline stayed behind with him. "What is it Nik?"
Klaus smiled finally with peace. "Rebekah…"
Caroline felt her chest warm with joy for him, his stubborn baby sister was finally reaching out. "See… I was right."
"I love you Caroline…" he said serious now.
Caroline smiled at him happy. "And I love you so much, my sweet sweet devil."
He smiled back at her. "For that is what I am, a devil forever trapped in your paradise."
