Quick Note: In this chapter, I'm introducing Jessica Drew. I changed her origins slightly in order for it to fit into the story better, but I think it works alright. Oh, I also don't own Marvel, the Avengers, or any of this stuff.
"Are you crazy?"
Rhodey appeared as if he was about to jump up from his wheel chair and slap Tony.
Peter flinched, and quickly sent a prayer up to God. He didn't want Tony and Rhodey to get into a fight because when they did fight, everything had to stop until their differences were resolved. All he could do was work on his project while they bickered over Jessica.
Jessica. Who the hell is Jessica?
Peter opened his notebook, and ran his finger over the series of numbers he had scrawled across the top. He flipped to the next page, which had a detailed drawing of the spine sketched with pencil. It was slightly smudged from when Peter erased errors in the picture. Every part of the spine was labeled meticulously. His brow furrowed, and he flipped back to the page with the numbers. Something wasn't adding up . . .
"Peter, are you even listening?"
Peter slammed his notebook shut, and looked at Tony and Rhodey, who were staring at him with exasperation.
"Uh, sorry. I'm just—uh—I'm a little stressed."
That was extremely true. Tony just revealed he had the ability to recreate the chain reaction that made him Spiderman, and they also had to get this Jessica girl to pretend to be him.
"So, back to what I was saying," Rhodey voiced "You can't ask Jessica to do this. It's way too dangerous!"
"Jessica is eighteen years old. She can decide for herself! And you're not her Dad!"
Rhodey rolled his eyes.
"I'm her step-dad!"
"I'm her god-father!"
"Wait," Vision cut in, looking from Tony to Rhodey "You have a daughter, Rhodes?"
Rhodey sighed.
"She's my wife's daughter that she had with her ex. I've raised her since she was eight, so she's basically mine."
"And I'm her god-father," Tony repeated, raising his hands in the air.
Natasha raised her eyebrows, and Vision stared blankly at Rhodey, as if he didn't register what Tony had said.
"Why do you think she'll be willing to do this?" Peter asked,
Rhodey and Tony glanced at each other, and then back at Peter.
"She once said that she wish she could do what Tony does," Rhodey stated reluctantly "She also says that she wants to be able to help people on the scale that the Avengers do."
"She's also a very strong supporter of the Accords," Tony chimed in.
"So, she's down to being made into a human spider?" Natasha asked.
Tony nodded enthusiastically, while Rhodey shook his head dramatically.
"Hey! You can't tell her what to do, Rhodey! She's an adult now!"
"For God's sake, Tony! This is ridiculous!"
"Okay guy!" Natasha stood up and glared at the two of them "Here's the deal. I agree with Tony. Call Jessica and let her decide for herself. You dumbasses can't come up with any other solutions, so we have to work with what we've got. Understood?"
Tony clapped his hands excitedly, while Rhodey rolled his eyes for the millionth time.
"I agree," Vision stated coolly.
"Peter?" Natasha asked.
"Okay."

Five hours later, Jessica Drew arrived at the Avengers HQ.
When she first stepped out of her Range Rover, Peter's jaw dropped. Not because she was pretty, but because she was well . . . different than what he expected. For whatever reason, he imagined her a blonde, girly girl who had no idea what she was getting into. Instead, Jessica was built like a gymnast, tall and muscular. Her curly brown hair was cut so short that it clung to the sides of her head so one could barely see the bouncy curls. She wore straight jeans, a blue and black flannel shirt, and a pair of black vans. Her tan skin indicated that she was often outside, breaking a sweat.
As soon as she stepped out of the car, her lips curled up into a big grin.
"James! Tony!"
She sprinted towards the two men, her arms open wide. They greeted her excitedly. It consisted of a whole lot of hugging and remarking how much she had grown. Peter smiled faintly; her excitement to see his bosses was touching.
"Jessica, meet Peter Parker," Rhodey finally said, pointing his stop daughter in his direction.
Peter extended his hand, and Jessica took it, shaking it soundly. Her smile turned into a business-like expression.
"I recognized you from the Tabloids. You must be the intern that everyone thinks is Spiderman."
"Yeah, that's me."
She nodded. Natasha headed over to her car to pull out her bags. Jessica turned towards Tony and Rhodey once again.
"I'm so excited you finally let me come and visit!"
"Well, we know how much you want to be a hero, so we thought we'd show you where they hang out and watch pizza," Tony exclaimed, making Jessica laugh.
"I can't wait!"

Once Jessica got a tour of the whole facility and was settled in her room, Peter headed back to his room, notebook tucked under his arm. Everyone had voted that he should be the one to tell Jessica of their plan, mainly because they thought he wouldn't be biased. Tony would try to convince his god-daughter to take the leap of faith and allow him to turn her into a human spider. Rhodey, on the other hand, would air on the cautionary side and tell her all the risks.
Peter tried to form what he would tell Jessica in his head. He knew he wouldn't be biased because he himself was sitting on the fence. Yes, he agreed to let Tony explain his idea and ask Jessica, but Rhodey still had some valid points.
He flopped down onto his bed, and opened his notebook again.
His brain started swirling, equations popping into order in his brain. Something didn't make sense though. The numbers in his head didn't add up.
Science is a mathematical thing. Everything in the human body adds up, and if it doesn't, there's something wrong.
To Peter, that was incredible. The fact that everything in existence, every physical thing was an enormous equation was incredible to him.
He snatched a pencil out from his back pocket, and set it down next to his notebook. Then, he leaned down, and looked under his bed. Under his bed were books, lots and lots of books. He grabbed two, which stuck to his palms like they were glued there. As soon as he was sitting back on his bed, they dropped of his hands and landed in front of him. He grinned. Once he learned to control his sticky hands, they were quite useful.
He flipped through the pages of the book. It was simply filled with facts about the human spine, something which he was interested in. He needed to know more. He scanned through a page explaining back pain procedures.
But what about paralysis?
He found a page about Paraplegia, and scanned it.
I've already heard all of this. I need to know more!
He slammed the book closed, a prominent frown plastered on his face. Grabbing his notebook, he flipped back to the page where he had copied all of the facts about Paraplegia from the text books. He ran his finger over them, trying to think of something he might have missed in between the words.
Someone's there.
"What're you working on?"
Peter looked up, and just as he felt, someone was at the door.
"Jessica! Hi!"
"Hey Peter."
She walked over to the bed, and jumped up next to him.
"Paraplegia, huh? That's some serious shit there."
"Uh—I—I guess."
Just tell her. Tell her now.
"Um, Jessica. Can I tell you something?"
"Sure."
"You have to promise to keep your lips sealed, okay?"
"Of course."
"I'm Spiderman."
"And now everyone knows."
'Well, we're hoping most people will think it's a stupid tabloid rumor."
"Except that this rumor makes sense."
Her eyes were piercing, and seemed to stare right into his soul.
"How many people actually know?"
"Well, all the Avengers, my girlfriend, and now you."
'What about your parents?"
"They're dead."
She didn't say anything, which was odd. Usually, when Peter told people about his parent's deaths, they were overly sympathetic and gushed on and on about how sorry they were. Jessica, however, didn't waste their time with over the top sympathies, which was something he appreciated. Something inside of him told him that he and Jessica would get along alright.
"I lived with my Aunt and Uncle, but my Uncle got shot a while back. He died, so now it's just me and my Aunt."
"But now you're Spiderman. How the hell did that happen?"
Peter chuckled.
"Well, I was on a field-trip, and there was a genetically-altered spider, which bit me. Now I'm basically a human spider."
"That sounds amazing. You know, having such an ability to help people in need. I wish I could."
"It's not easy."
"I'll bet, with all the responsibility."
"Uh—yeah. That is hard, but when it first happened, my senses got dialed to an eleven, which is so hard to get used to. It was so hard to concentrate at first. I also got—uh—migraines because of my heightened senses. It was like everything got brighter, louder, and closer. Understand?"
That statement came out a little harsher than he wanted it to, but then again, Jessica had to understand. She was a smart girl, but not even the smartest of people could process what it was like.
"Understand? W—why?"
"You will be able to control your powers pretty easily, especially since I'm here. I make the webbing, and it's easy to use. I made the gadget that launches it also—"
"Peter! Peter! Stop, okay?"
Peter clamped his mouth shut. He was almost positive that had scared her away, and that she'd never consider becoming his decoy for him.
"What the hell are you talking about?" she asked, her voice hitching a tiny bit.
Peter sighed.
"Jessica, we are having a press conference, one where I have to tell everyone I'm not Spiderman. No one's going to believe that unless they see Spiderman at the same time."
Jessica didn't move, her eyes gazing intently at him. He gulped.
"Tony was able to singularize the quality in my DNA that makes me have these abilities, and create a formula that would basically recreate Spiderman."
Jessica didn't say anything, which made Peter feel a little unhinged. She seemed like an opinionated girl, one that wouldn't hesitate to voice her opinion.
Peter was used to having strong women in his life . . . Aunt May, Natasha Romanoff, and Gwen. That was what he was used to, and that was what he admired. That was one of the things that threw him off about Mary Jane, her desire to fit in and not forge her own past.
Jessica was like that. She was the most capable person to take on this challenge of becoming a superhero. In fact, she herself said she wanted to be able to help people in the way he was able to, so she couldn't turn down his offer.
Why am I so scared?
"Jessica, you said you wanted to help people in the way us Avengers can. Tony had the formula ready, and we are willing to give it to you, so you can get my powers."
"Wow."
"It's not gonna be easy, but I can train you."
Jessica stared down at her hands, appearing to be deep in thought.
"We're low on members of the Avengers also."
"And you also need a decoy."
"Well—um—yes."
"Don't worry. I'm not mad about that."
She smiled faintly.
"I knew something was up when James invited me. Something big, something exciting," Jessica started "I believe in something bigger, Peter. I believe we have a purpose, and mine is helping people."
She paused, her fingers pulling on one of her bouncy curls.
"I have a purpose, but I have fight to get there. I have to find my own—I don't know what to call it— how's destiny?"
Peter nodded.
"In order to find it, you have to take risks. Wouldn't you agree?"
"Um, totally."
"I think I should take this risk."
She smiled broadly, and cracked her knuckles. Peter could immediately tell she was thrilled, which made his heart pound with excitement also.
"You wanna become a human spider?"
"Why not? We do have to think of a name! You're Spiderman, so how does Spiderwoman sound?"
"I think it sounds amazing!"
They both smiled brightly, and she reached out to squeeze his hand.
"We should tell the teams your decision now."
"I'm so excited!"
"Me too."
