Chapter XIX: Dani's First Day of School
The sun rose above into the sky; signaling a new day. Its warm light bathed the town of Amity Park with its light. It was almost as if the events of the day before never even took place, like it was another time. Danny, who was sleeping in his bed, tossed and turned in his bed when the bright warm light cracked through his bedroom window's blinds. Danny; also being a superhero and a father; was trying to get as much sleep as he could. However when he realized his efforts were futile and that there was no way he would get back to sleep he decided to get up. He looked towards his closet door, which held his hidden door to his Ghost Lair; and his sleeping daughter. Danny wondered what she was going to be like today; for today was her first day of school.
He remembered that The President had helped set this up to show that Humans and Ghosts could get along. Plus it would also give Dani the education she would need. As much as Danny may hate school; he can still understand the importance and need to attend it and he was going to make sure his daughter would also be given that chance for education. He wondered if she would be excited to go; or nervous; probably both. However Dani had one thing that usual people don't have. Because of their unique conditions Dani would be able to attend the same school that her parents do, so they would always be able to keep an eye on each other. Though Danny knew it would probably be a good idea to give Dani some space today; he also didn't want her to accidentally call Danny Fenton Dad, or Sam Manson Mom.
Speaking of Mom and Dad, Danny's skin paled as a disturbing thought crept into his mind. He remembered that today was also the start of a new class. Due to the frequent Ghost activity in Amity and as part of the deal he made with the President; Amity would have a new class to teach students about Ghosts. Who did they choose to lead this new class called Ghosts 101; none other than the best Ghost Hunters in the business; his very own parents. Danny groaned going to school and having your parent; or in his case parents for teachers is one of the worst things that can happen. As if he didn't have enough reasons for the A-List to pick on him; plus now he was going to have such a harder time keeping his secret; he would probably have to come up with new excuses to leave and fight ghosts. Danny decided to just leave these thoughts for now and continue his normal routine; shower, get dressed and eat.
By the time Danny got down to get something to eat; his parents had already taken over the living room. Their research and gadgets were all over the place. It looked like they were figuring out what to take with them; diagrams of ghosts, photos of ghosts or ancient text depicting a ghost sighting. There were also schematics and actual models of ghost hunting equipment; all with the word Fenton on it. It looked like they unpacked half of their Ghost Lab and were trying to fit it into two briefcases that they would take with them. His parents noticed him coming down the stairs.
"Oh hey Danny-boy; were just getting ready to teach our first class." His father said greeting him.
"Oh yeah, you guys are teachers at my school now." Danny said trying to show some enthusiasm.
"Since we have to be there early do you want a lift?" his mother asked.
"Oh no, that's fine I'll walk with Sam and Tucker."
"Okay, suit yourself; we need to get going hon."
"Right I just need to decide on which one of these to bring." Jack said holding two models of weapons he created.
Danny decided it would be best if he left his parents to their work; he went over to the kitchen to fix himself some breakfast. It was not long after that he heard the engine of the GAV rev up and pulls out onto the streets. Danny decided to turn the news on and see if the media was making a big deal out of today. He grabbed the remote and turned it on; what a shock; they were, there were already reporters on the site of Casper High. They were probably trying to be the early birds and catch Phantom bringing his daughter to school. However thanks to Danny speaking with the President, they had managed to set up perimeter around the school; only the most blood thirsty reporters would get by it.
Meanwhile in another part of Amity, Star was walking towards her friend's house. Although at this point; Star wondered why she kept hoping the day would be different. It's been almost three weeks since the concert where the huge battle between Phantom and Mayor Masters happened. Paulina has almost been driven crazy with the fact her beloved soul mate already had a family; she didn't show up to school anymore. Star walked up to the door; raised her hand and knocked. Seconds later Paulina's father opened the door, same as usual; Star was expecting the same answer she always got.
"Hey Mr. Sanchez, I take it Paulina's still not coming out today?"
"Actually; she is, I don't know how to explain it, but she starting to act like her old self; she's just getting ready now."
"Daddy; is that Star at the door?" Paulina's voice echoed from her room upstairs.
"Yes it is; do you want her to come in?"
"Yes please."
Mr. Sanchez motioned for Star to enter; which she did. Star walked up the stairs to her best friend's room. It had been a while since she's been in there. But she was glad that her friend was starting to feel better; she's probably finally accepted the fact that her love with Phantom was one-sided and never meant to be. However when Star entered her best friend's room, and saw her friend for the first time in a while; she got an uneasy feeling as she notice that sparkle of crazy in her friend's eyes.
"Hey Paulina; you okay?" she asked her friend.
"Of course Star, I'm fine; I was just going through a tough time."
"You sure; because you still look a little uneasy?"
"I'm fine; and ready to get back to school. Let's go if we hurry we might be able to see Phantom arrive at the school; besides I'm really looking forward to this new class about Ghosts; who knows what secrets we could learn about them in that."
With that Paulina picked up her backpack and started to head off to school; closely followed by a worried Star. Star was smart enough to know that despite being the most popular girl in school; Paulina wasn't always there. It got worse when she fell in love with Phantom and started to do and say anything to let people know that they were a couple; which was not true. But with the events of three weeks ago, Star had been more concerned with her friend, her obsession wasn't healthy; and she was worried about how far she was going to take this fantasy. At least Paulina was going back to her daily routine and life; and she could keep an eye on her to make sure she didn't do anything to crazy.
Danny was just finishing making Dani her breakfast when there was a knock at the door. He gave Dani her breakfast and walked over to open the door; just as he expected; Sam was on the other side. Danny greeted his girlfriend and for some reason decided to give her a quick good morning kiss on the cheek. Sam although caught unexpected by Danny's love didn't complain and returned with one of her own. They couldn't explain it but for some reason ever since yesterday they've felt more connected to each other. They both entered the kitchen to see that Dani had already wolfed her food down and an empty plate was what remained.
"Well you sure must have been hungry." Danny said.
"Well I'm excited; I've always wanted to go to school." Dani answered.
"Excited or nervous?" Sam asked.
"Okay maybe a bit of both, sure I want to go; but I'm also worried I won't like it."
"Dani, nobody really likes school; sure there are classes some people enjoy and you can see and hang out with your friends but when it comes to the work; especially doing it for years, you start to hate it; but that's normal for a kid and everybody has to go through it."
"Well if it's that bad why are you sending me there?"
"Because despite the hate most people have for it; you have to understand that it's a good thing, a necessary thing; it's like medicine; it taste's bad but you know it will help you in the long run so you take it regardless of the taste."
"Also remember unlike most kids; your parents will be there so if you feel uneasy or nervous; just come and find us."
"Okay, so should we get going then, after all we have to beat all the reporters."
"Yeah, but the reporters are forgetting one little detail."
"What's that?"
"They forgot that ghosts can turn invisible."
Danny, Sam and Danielle were floating in their Phantom forms above the mass of reporters and people gathered around Casper High. Each one of them hoping to catch site of the towns most talked about topic; The Phantom Family. Oh how disappointed they would be when they realized they forgot ghosts can turn invisible. Danny looked around for Tucker; who was supposed to meet them there; he spotted him behind a tree, just to the side of Casper and out of the view of the reporters. Danny told Sam and Danielle to stay for a moment while he went to check up with Tuck. Tucker knew his best friend was around as soon as he felt a shiver travel down his spine at the sudden drop in temperature.
"Hey Tuck, so everything going according to plan so far?" Danny said; remaining invisible.
"Yeah, The President has made sure the school as a perimeter so you can actually get in, your parents are already here, Principal Ishiyama is waiting in the offices for you to show up all you have to do now is get in; I'll see you and Sam in 1st period."
"Alright thanks Tuck, see you soon." Danny said as he took off to Sam and Danielle.
"Is everything set?" Sam asked.
"Yep, all we need to do now is meet the Principal and introduce Dani."
"You know, we should actually turn visible and enter the building?"
"What why?"
"Because if they don't see Phantom's family arrive they may just camp out until they do."
"Good point."
With that Danny turned visible and started to fall towards the ground. The gathered crowd just managed to see him and though he was just arriving and landing. Danny, landed on the ground on both his legs, the force of his sudden stop left some cracks on the pathway. The reporters and citizens started to pull out their cameras and capture and record everything that happened, seconds later two more figure which were obviously Phantom's Mate and daughter landed right next to him. The three then looked at each other before proceeding to enter the school and out of site from the reporters view.
Danny and Sam knew where the Principal's office was, since they attended this school. The halls were still empty because it was still a bit of time before classes started and everybody was probably outside waiting for them. Danny and Sam came to stop in front of the door. Danny raised his hand and gently knocked on the door. When he heard the approval to enter from the principal he looked at his family one last time before entering. He opened the door and saw Principal Ishiyama sitting at her desk, Mr. Lancer and his parents standing there. All their eyes widened with surprise; they knew that this was happening but it was still a surprise to them that it was actually happening. Danny Phantom was enrolling their daughter into their school.
"Principal Ishiyama?" Danny asks, acting as if this was the first time they've met.
"Yes, I'm very pleased to meet you Mr. Phantom and welcome to Casper High." She said reaching her hand out for a shake.
"Thank you; I've heard good things about this school." Danny said as Sam and Dani came in through the door.
"And you must be Mrs. Phantom, I've got to say it really is pleasures to meet you, I only know your husband only because of his status and gossip in the town, but since you first appeared you've actually replaced him as our most popular topic everybody wants to know everything about you; oh also I should also introduce, Mr. Lancer, who will oversee your daughter's teachings and Jack and Maddie Fenton, who are heading up our new ghost class."
"Yes we've already met the Fentons, Mr. Lancer, it's a pleasure." Sam said reaching out to shake his hand.
"Same to you Mrs." Lancer replied politely.
"I think that just leaves one more to be introduced this is…." Sam started to say before noticing that Dani had hid behind her; obviously the first day of school shyness setting in.
"Oh, Dani, it's okay there's no need to be shy, these people are going to help you hear." Sam said moving out of the way slightly.
Dani took these words as some encouragement and slightly moved her hear around her mother to take a look at the people in the room. She had the cutest shy face and the hearts of everybody in the room melted. Sam then stepped out of the way fully giving everybody a good look at the miniature Phantom. Dani took a step forward, still a little shy and nervous, but really who wasn't on their first day of school.
"Hi…I'm Danielle." She managed to say.
"Well aren't you just the cutest thing; Hello Danielle, I'm Principal Ishiyama and your parents are right there is no need to be shy; we're all here to help you have the best experience here."
"Okay."
"However before we can do that, I do have to speak with your Parents about a few things, everybody has to do this."
Danny and Sam then took seats in the two chairs that were set in front of the Principal's desk. Sam gave Dani something to do while she waited, Mr. Lancer and the Fentons also took seats as they were going to be part of the conversation, which wasn't a huge problem; after all Lancer was going to be teaching Danielle and Danny also wanted to know more about his parent's class.
"Okay so Mr. and Mrs. Phantom, we just need to go over regular school stuff, the permissions and stuff like that, I've asked Mr. Lancer to sit in because he's teaching your daughter and The Fentons because of these 'unique' circumstances, I hope that doesn't offend you."
"Nope we understand, in fact we also have some questions for them as well" Sam said.
"Okay good, okay first of all I'm getting this out of the way right away, some concerns we and other parents have is the fact that your daughter is a ghost and therefore has powers which we have seen her use thanks to the news, is there a guarantee that she won't use them here?"
"Well I can't guarantee that she won't use them; we've told her not to unless she has to and she doesn't unless she has to, but to answer what you're probably asking me, I can't guarantee you that she won't harm a student if they tick her off."
"Yes that's one problem we have, just because your daughter is a special case it doesn't mean we'll let her use her powers against those who get her angry, which is bound to happen around her because of what and who she is and because all kids are like that."
Danny gave the matter some thought, they did have a point, and he could not guarantee them a hundred percent that Dani wouldn't use her powers if someone ticked her off. Heck there were times when Danny first got his powers that he used them against and recklessly because they ticked him off. This was also going to be a serious deal breaker, as well, he had to find away to keep Dani in school but limit her power or something, just then Sam came up with an idea.
"If I recall, The Fentons have something that can limit or weaken a ghost's powers what was sit called again, the Specter Deflector or something?"
"Yeah, but it's built so ghosts can't harm humans, it seriously hurts a ghost if they wear it, I should know."
"Yes, but id The Fentons were to say, modify it so that it still weakens or limits a ghosts powers without harming the ghost." Sam said, Danny finally catching on.
"Mr. and Mrs. Fenton, would you be able to modify the Specter Deflector so it doesn't hurt ghosts?"
"I guess we could, we could have one ready in a few days." Jack said.
"How would that help our problem?" Principal Ishiyama asked.
"You see Principal Ishiyama, the Fenton's have this gadget called The Specter Deflector, if a human wears it; it protects them from ghosts because we can't touch them without be weakened or having power drained. However if a ghost was to wear it; well it would suck for the ghost, if not eventually kill them. So I'm wondering if The Fentons can modify their invention so that a ghost can wear it without being shocked and killed but still surpass the sue of its powers, that way all Danielle will have to do is put it on when she comes here and take it off when she leaves she won't be able to use her powers her or against the student body."
"If it's something she wears, what's stopping her from just taking it off?" Ishiyama asks.
"I don't know maybe The Fentons can also add a lock that only they can undo that way once it's no in the morning it can't come off until her school day is done."
"I guess that can work then, okay second thing, has your daughter had any education before?"
"Uh…not really know, if you mean has she gone to a school before, no this will be her first, there's not really any schools in The Ghost Zone because The GIW have made it almost impossible for Ghosts to have children, so what she knows if mostly what we have taught her, so almost home schooled but no she has never had proper education before this, she's a smart kid though, she likes to read, The Hobbit is her favorite book; read it all on her own." Danny said, he noticed Mr. Lancer brighten up and become even more interested with Dani at the last sentence; they should get along just fine.
"Okay so since she has not had any education we need to get her caught up, so that's why, thanks to The President; we've set up a special schedule for her, we'll get her caught up to whatever her current grade would be in about a month or so, Mr. Lancer will help her with it all Math, English, History, Drama and The Fentons will help out a bit with Science and of course the Ghost 101 class."
"Yes that's something else, we want to know a little bit more about this ghost class?" Sam asked.
"Of course, it's a new and mandatory class that everybody will be taking Danielle and Mr. Lancer's English class will always have it as their last period of the day; the goal is to teach our students about ghosts, but I'll let The Fenton's take over from here."
"Yes the government has made this a necessary class for all students to take and what we will be doing in it is teach the students about Ghosts." Maddie said.
"Yes but what about ghosts, are you teaching our history, our abilities, our biology or anatomy, how to defend yourself against them, what exactly will be covered in it?" Danny asked.
"Well for now juts the starts of what a ghost is, Ectoplasm, their powers a little biology but your history is something we going to have to save for another time, because we don't know it, we were hoping that if the peace between our species works then you and others would be able to help us learn about it like how your government works, major ghost events and stuff like that."
"However part of the job is also teaching the students how to defend themselves from ghosts as well, what weakens a ghosts, what they should do if they see a dangerous ghost stuff like that."
"What I'm concerned about is how my daughter would handle this class, especially the defend part, would you be brining any hazardous materials into school like Blood Blossom's?"
"Yes we will to show the students, but we'd make sure your daughter is nowhere near them when we show them, you don't have to worry about your daughter's safety, me and Mads have taken precautions to make sure she is safe."
Danny was a little worried about the fact that his Dad just said there will be Blood Blossom's in the classroom. Sure they said that Dani would be safe, but what about him and Sam, they would have to be human. Maybe they could work something out with Tucker and have him eat them or something. As for the Biology part, Clockwork and Frostbite had already given him a few talks about how a ghost's body works similar to and different from humans. Like a core instead of a heart, ectoplasm instead of blood, stuff like that and powers. So far everything was going okay; school was also going to be starting soon, it was about time they wrapped this up.
"Alright I think that's all we have right now; anything else to add Sam?" Danny asked.
"No I think I'm good, we've already supplied her with the essential materials, we'll work on the not using powers until that modified Specter Deflector is ready, The ghost class sounds like it should be okay for now, it is a new class after all and I'm sure you're still working out a few things, so I think we're good."
"Okay there was just one other thing, food, so can you and do you eat human food?" Principal Ishiyama asked.
"Yes we can, but don't go around changing the menu just for her sake; we'll supply her with lunch." Sam said.
"Then I think that takes care of anything except contact information, is there any way we can get in contact with you if something happens with your daughter."
"Well I hope that would never be the case, but in case of emergency, we don't really have cell phones or a phone so, we'll get back to you on that, we'll think of something."
Danny did need to think of something, he couldn't just give them his and Sam's phone numbers that would blow his secret away right away. And it's not like he and Sam would actually need it they would always be around during school because they had it too. But that seemed to be enough for Ishiyama as she nodded and got up from her desk; maybe it was because of the 'unique' conditions of their family. All they had to do now was sign some school papers, the usual parent stuff, they made sure to change their usually handwriting slightly so they wouldn't be able to match it to their human forms. After that Danielle was now officially a student at Casper High. They could hear the students start to fill the halls as they prepared to head off to classes. Danny and Sam got up and prepared to leave and go to their own classes; after changing from their Phantom forms of course. They came up to Dani, and started to reassure her.
"Okay then Danielle, that's it you're a student at Casper High." Danny said.
"You just follow and listen to Mr. Lancer, he will show you where to go and what to do, you need anything just ask him." Sam said.
"Don't worry about a thing Mr. and Mrs. Phantom, I won't let her get swarmed by fans or the students, also if she enjoys the Hobbit and reading I'm sure we'll get along just fine."
"But what if there's a ghost attack?"
"Danielle, after the past three weeks a ghost would have to be incredibly stupid in order to come after you, I'll handle ghosts like I usually do, don't worry, just go off and enjoy school, we'll be here to pick you up after."
"Okay, bye Mom, bye Dad." Dani said giving them both a hug goodbye.
"Bye Dani, we'll see you after school."
Dani then started to follow Mr. Lancer who started to show her around. Of course Dani didn't have to wait until after school in order to see her parents, but they did have to put on the act for the people present in the room. Shortly after that The Fentons went off to get ready for their first class of the new Ghost 101. Danny and Sam said goodbye to Principal Ishiyama and left, sneaking out to find a place to change into their human forms. They then met up with Tucker and headed for their first class, today was going to be a very interesting day.
Meanwhile; not too far from Amity, something even more sinister was at work. The Boss was sitting at his desk, looking over videos of the recent events that unfolded in Amity. First Phantom's daughter had gone missing, and then a giant plant ghost by the name of Undergrowth showed up and enslaved the entire town. Then a ghost dragon came and nearly burnt down a portion of the town to ash, managed to help defeat the ghost and was then defeated by Phantom's daughter. The Boss was watching all the footage of the events as he had managed to get his hands on and was wondering if there was somehow any way they could use it to their advantage. Suddenly a buzzer sounded on his intercom, The Boss reached over and pressed it.
"This is The Boss, what have you to report."
"Sir the Mole and The Bounty Hunter have arrived for your meeting, and Project: Reaper is almost near completion." The voice said from the other end.
"I'll be right there; oh and send Agents O and K there as well I want them there."
"Yes Sir, right away sir."
The Boss got up from his chair and started to head to the main GIW meeting room. So many thoughts were going through his head, so far everything was going according to plan. The Boss knew that this had to work, if they failed, if the GIW failed again, it could mean the end of the world as they knew it. Before they knew it those putrid Ectoplasmic slimes would be able to have rights, heck maybe it would be legal for a human to marry a ghost. The Boss shuddered at the trough of Ghost having the same rights as they did when they were alive. The Boss came to the meeting room, just in time to see Agents O and K enter before him. The Boss entered the room and just as the agent on the intercom said, The Bounty Hunter and the Mole were there waiting for him.
The bounty Hunter still wore his black and silver hi-tech suit, still armed from head to toe with weapons and anything he needed to get a job done, his mask was still faced down; still not letting anybody see his face. The Boss wasn't pleased with the hunter so far, first of all he was expensive and second all he's done so far was shoot at Phantom a few tries, but the Hunter made it clear that he would get Phantom and his family; but his way. The Boss couldn't do anything but be patient with him; this man was not the one you push around, especially when his hiring price is ten million alone. The hunter was standing off to the side, Agents O and K had taken seats at the table in the center, and at the end was none other than the GIW mole to the White House, actually this man was more than a mole, he was more of a partner to the GIW. The mole watched the Boss enter; his icy blue eyes were set on him. The mole then lifted his hand and removed his glasses, briefly cleaning them before putting them back on; a habit he picked up. The Boss took his seat and looked at the mole, sometimes he couldn't tell who answered to whom, did the mole answer to him, or did he answer to the mole.
"Well now that we're all here, I'd say we should begin immediately." The mole said, taking a drink from a glass of water.
"If you say so…Mr. Vice-President" The Boss responded.
Well there you go. I hope you've enjoyed the story so far, and wow that's a big revelation, and it can cause trouble. Update January 14th 2015: Hey guys, first of all I'm just going to leave this for you here; okay so my computer is having troubles and I need to have it looked at. What sucks is that I almost had the next chapter done and was planning on updating this story tomorrow in time for the 2nd anniversary of me starting this series. I almost had it done; then my computer acts weird, so I have been unable to finish it and my computer will need to be fixed and I have no idea how long that will take; it shouldn't be more than a week. So I'm sorry that I have to tell you there will be another delay in my story but I can't predict or control events like this but I promise you as soon as my computer is fixed I will finish the chapter and post it and start to work on the next. So once again so sorry. Also on a side note, and I will also say this again once the chapter is posted; I have decided on what to do with Daughter of a Phantom; when I posted the revised first chapter I wanted to know people's opinion because I was unsure. I like the story as is; but there is a lot more I could have added that I didn't, deleted scenes. So What I have decided to do is go with option 2, I will update the story by fixing spelling and grammar mistakes; making it easier for people to read. Then and I'm not decided on this; when I finish all three stories I will release a fourth that is a collection of them with the new scenes so people can choose which they want; there will be the originals and then an extended version of the trilogy. Still not decided on that but I have lots of time to think; my main concern was I didn't want to turn George Lucas by changing the original too much; and some people made that clear in their reviews; so to sum up I'm having computer problems; even at this moment I typed this up on a different computer; and I will be fixing the errors in Daughter of a Phantom; so please have patience and wait a little longer; also keep in mind that unlike some authors I'm actually good about updating and I have stated before that I will never abandon this story, so please just be patient while I try to fix these problems; hopefully the next chapter will be out in a week's time; but don't hold me to that.
Update: January 28th 2015: I am so angry and annoyed; okay so if you read my last update I told you that my computer needs to be fixed that was over two weeks ago. I have taken it in and despite them looking at it didn't fix the problem so instead of giving you the chapter today I had to take it back and show them what the problem was so I still don't have a computer as I am still using a temporary one that I don't have a lot of access to in order to type this note. So I'm so sorry that it's taking so long; I am really debating weather I should start to retype the almost completed next chapter so I could post it here; however I can't because I don't have time this week because of the Cineplex Film Festival that I will be at all week. So I'm sorry and it's ironic all those months and weeks ago where there were no updates due to writer's block; school or life and I couldn't update, now I want to write and continue and give you guys chapters weekly and I can't. So I'm sorry but I can't give you guys a date; just know that as soon as my computer is fixed and I can use it again I will get the chapter finished as soon as I can; last I worked on it was about 70% done so bear with me I'll get the next chapter out as soon as I can
Update: February 15th 2015: OMG good news guys, so as you can see almost a month after my first update I'm giving you good news, I got my computer back, it got broken, I had to take it in for repairs and it took a lot of patience with the people fixing it and all the repairs but I've managed to get my computer back and everything is still okay all my files are intact and right now I'm looking at my next chapter right where I left off, so now that I have this back in order I'm letting you know that I will finish this chapter and get it to you guys as soon as possible and get to work on the next one in order to make up with making you and me wait so long, I'm sorry but this delay was out of my hands, so anyways everything is good and you can expect the new chapter within the next 48 hours, thank you for your patience.
