Chapter twenty
It was then that ling realised what Lan Fans last words of this world were. She mouthed the words in Amestris because no one besides her and himself would know what she was saying as they were the only people in the room who could speak the language. The message was just for him to hearv alone, to be there last secret with what she sad brought tears to his eyes as his heart was racing in fear. He last words were simple but meant the world.
'I love you'
And they hit like a knife. "I order stop!" he cried out in a loud and clear voice, the words were strong and carried power.
The blade stopped just before slicing her neck, cutting her hair shorter so that it was a boy cut. And a small trickle of blood trickled down her neck. Ling pushed his way through the barrier and approached Lan Fan. All signs of his tears gone and a formal persona that seemed strange even to Lan Fan. "You kill her and you're breaking the law" he declared.
"w-what?" the man stuttered with shock "and what law exactly would I be breaking?"
Lan Fan hadn't moved the entire time, her face now facing the floor and completely still and silent. Just like is she was dead.
"killing an empress"
the room burst into whispers and shuffles. It came alive again.
"what?" the man and the Yao daughter gasped in shock at the same time as a response at the same time. She was now pushing her way towards Ling.
"I am now linking the Xing empire with the country of Amestris" He started in a formal voice, turning to the crowed of guests. "As an emperor to the Xing kingdom I am to marry all fifty of the eldest daughters of the chief to each clan to give each clan and heir – to prevent war, unrest and keep peace for all the clans. This means that because I am connecting this country to Amestris I should marry someone from Amestris as well, to give their views on how Xing can help them and vice versa. However, I cannot marry someone from that country as they have different laws and rules – marrying more than one person is one of them – Even! For an emperor. So instead I need to marry a women who has been to Amestris, experienced its hardships and lived there for a while. As well as speak the language to talk to the government and military powers over there." Then ling turned back around to the man, blade still in hand, and walked towards him. "The only women, who fits that description in the entire kingdom. Is this woman here" And he pointed down at Lan Fan.
"You kill her and you break the peace" he added in a calm and smug voice.
"b-b-but today is our wedding" Mis Yao proclaimed.
Ling turned to face her and held her hand in both of his "I'm afraid not. To make a good impression on Amestris it would be the best thing to do to marry there reprehensive first. And I also will be choosing my empresses from each clan. Someone who is kind and caring as well and with the skill of a leader who I think will help befit each clan in some way" he added "but we can be friends" and he turned to help up Lan Fan as she stormed out of the room.
As he got down on the floor, his heart was beating. Why hadn't she moved the whole time? Why had she stayed still?
As he sat her up he could see that she was fine but her eyes were distant. Emotionless. Dead.
"Lan fan are you ok?" he whispered soothingly into her ear. "Lan fan?" worry building in his voice "Lan Fan!"
"Why did you do that?" she asked back shocked and mumbled. She was just in her own world of thought.
Ling hugged her and whispered in her ear in Amestris "because I didn't want you to die. Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because I never wanted to tell you"
"so why did you? Because you thought you were going to die?"
"Yeah. That. And I know you like me back"
"how?" his voice bringing her back to reality and feeling safe.
"The kiss"
and a small moments silence " I thought you were out"
"I was, but I was up by then"
"so you just said it because I kissed you" sorrow tinted his voice, it was more of a statement than a question
"no, because I knew you liked me back. You know, I've liked you from the moment we met" her voice was barely audible, even to herself and her face was a bright red.
Ling pulled away from his hug for a moment and kissed her gently on her lips making her heart race. His lips were warm and somehow comforting, where hers were still cold from the fear of death. It was like bliss and she could feel herself melting into it.
"what's happened?!" Ed announced walking into the room as it was still practically silent With Alphonse, May (and Xiao Mai) and Winry behind him. Ling pulled away from Lan Fan with his hands still on her shoulders.
"the wedding" Ling shouted over the crowd "the ceremony is about to start" he added in a cheery voice
"b-but I have nothing I can wear or a ring for you and I never even ha-"
"you look perfect" he added in a calming trustworthy voice.
"you ready?" he added in a his happy tone as he stood up and offered Lan Fan a hand.
And with a nod of her head, she accepted his hand and stood up.
LOBnote: Tadaaa! Finished after eight months ^.^ however I'm going to do a epilogue and an alternative ending that aren't to important so I this is it. I can't express my gratitude to you for reading (sorry this chapter is short, that seemed the most effective ending)
i was origionaly going to make Lan Fan marry Len and have Len die about half way between 10 -20 but your comments changed my mind about that. They also made me change it to a more positive ending. I will post the original as the alternative ending soon :)
