Chapter 19: Wedding Problems

Denise rolled her eyes but nodded "Tell him I need his tux size like right now." She said

"I told him to come out here."

"How long is he staying?" She asked, she really didn't care much for him.

"Enough."

"Okay fine whatever. Can we go get ice cream?" She had his keys in her hand, no way in hell was he letting her drive his truck since it was a stick shift and she'd never driven one before. He ran to the car

She was getting in the driver seat. "Oh hell no Denise." He said taking the keys. "You are not driving my truck."

"Frank I'm driving!"

"No you are not Denise." He said pulling his hand back when she tried to get the keys again "You can barely drive an automatic let alone a stick shift."

She moved over. "Fine."

He hopped in the truck and started the engine, he looked over and Denise was pouting, he thought it was adorable.

"So Denise." He said trying to change the mood. "Why don't you like the leprechaun?"

"What?" She asked looking at him.

"My best friend."

"He's a pig headed little mother...nevermind." she said trying to calm herself down,she had no clue why she was so uptight.

"Been my best friend ever since my first day."

"Well he's rude." She said, Frank wasn't sure where all this hostitlity was coming from.

"Unless you insult the Irish."

Denise just shook her head. "Okay can we talk about something else?"

"Denise did something happened between you two?"

"What do you mean?" She asked.

"You clearly have a problem with him."

"No nothing happened." She said but he could tell she was lying. "He's just not my favorite person is all."

"Denise you need to spend time with him is all."

She only nodded and once again she was in tears, Frank was extremely worried by this point, since he's been home that's all she seemed to do.

"Denise honey what is it now?"

Denise shrugged, even she didn't know why she was crying now, she'd just had it with the wedding planning, her family and everything at this point and she'd hit her breaking point.

"I guess it's just you being here and mother and the wedding."

Frank understood now, she had just hit her breaking point and he felt bad for her.

"It wasn't your friend."

He stopped the car and turned around and went back toward the hacienda.

"What is it?"

"You are stressed out babe. You are going home and taking a hot bath and then we are going to lay and watch movies, I am telling your mother she and the other ladies have to handle the rest of the planning, you are exhuasted and need a break."

She smiled. "Thank you."

He smiled and kissed her head, they went back to the house and Frank led Dense inside "Okay go on and take a hot bath and I'll make you so tea." He said, Catalina and the other ladies were sitting in the living room.

"Mom did you show dad the cat outfit i got for him." Sue smirked with her arm around Beth

"Suzanne!" She scolded "Mind your manners."

"What? It was just a questimeon."

"Behave yourself." She said as Frank walked in. "Hello there Son-in-law." She said smiling

"Hey Mamas." He said to Catalina and his own mother.

He hugged and kissed them both. "Okay we have a situation and I need you all to help me." He said

"With what?"

"Okay Denise has had it with everyone and everything right now,she is stressed with the wedding planning and she is exhausted so she is to be hands off from now on unless it is about her flowers or her dress"he said "You all know the colors and her favorite floowers so you can handle the rest,can you all do that?"He paused. "I'm worried about her"

They all nodded.

"Good,now Catalina can you please show how the hell to make tea,she is taking a bath and I told her she is to do nothing but lounge around on the couch for the rest of the day but I have no idea how to make tea"he laughed

Catalina laughed. "You boil water then put a little tea bag in it."

"Oh"he said "I can do that"

All the women laughed.

Frank laughed "Thanks girls I'm glad my stupidity can amuse you all."

They laughed as he went to make the tea. He poured a cup for Denise just as she came downstairs, she had changed into one of his old shirts and pajama shorts.

He smiled and kissed her. "Don't you look cute."

She laughed. "Please I'm an old shirt." She said. She smiled. "Can we kick them out of the living room so we can watch a movie?" She asked referring to their mothers and the other ladies.

"Catalina you should go try out the outfit Sue bought you on your husband!" Frank shouted.

Everyone in the other room burst into laughter and Frank had to doge a set of car keys that came flying into the kitchen.

"What was that?" He said.

"Her car keys" Denise laughed picking them up off the floor.

"Who threw them?"

"Me." Catalina said coming into the room.

"Hey mom." Frank said smiling.

"You are about to get in trouble son." She teased "How's my girl feeling now?"she looked at Denise.

"Mom, I did nothing wrong." He teased as he held Denise.

"You are lucky you have my baby girl in your arms or I'd beat on you."

"Why Mom, I didn't do anything to you."

She laughed and shook her head "Okay you two Joe left for Dallas a few hours ago and and the girls are going to do so more wedding planning before it gets dark so you will have the house to yourselves, so behave."

"Mother don't let Sue drive you anywhere." Denise teased

"Don't plan on it." She laughed and got the other ladies and left the house.

"So what do you want to do?" Denise said as she laid on the couch

"Whatever you want ot do is fine with honey." He said sitting at her feet.

"Put a viedo in."

He nodded and got up and put her favorite move of all time in "Gone With The Wind".

"Frank how did you know!"

"I know you too well." He said and went and picked her up and put her on his lap and held her while the video started.

"How weird it is to be alone together."

"We've been alone together before." He laughed "We lived together at one point."

"Yeah, but that feels like such a long time ago."

He nodded. "Yeah I know. How are you feeling baby?"

"Amazing with just you."

He smiled and kissed her "You should try and get so sleep"he said as the movie started.

"No this is my movie!"

He laughed "Okay"he said and they watched the movie, Frank would kiss her head or play with her hair every so often just to keep her relaxed. They where at the part where Melanie was about to have her baby when the house we'd filled with women again. Denise whined and hid her face in Franks chest when they came in. ,All fighting.

Frank was about to kill them all, he'd had Denise totally relaxed and now she was getting stressed out again. "Ladies!" He shouted.

"That's everyone but you!" Said Pearl to Tara

Frank put Denise down on the couch and kissed her head. "Be right back baby." He said and went to where the women were. "Hey!" He snapped "Either shut up or leave, Denise is more important to than any of you and right now she is upset and stressed and exhausted so either calm down and act like adults or go home !"

They all mummbled before going sepret aways. Frank went back to the living room to see Denise holding her head. He was going to cuddle her when the doorbell went off.

He groaned and went to open it. It was his best man.

"Hey man!" He said smiling.

"Frank, you won't believe some cowboy tried to shot me!"

He laughed. "I believe it." He said. "Come on in."

He whisled. "Damn."

"Yeah nice right?" He laughed

"Dude. We have to go cow tipping!"

"Do a favor and don't make jokes like that around my woman. She's not in the best mood and she knows where the gun safe is."

"I was serious but okay."

"So am I." He laughed and they went to the living room, Denise was laying on the couch waiting on frank to get back so he could hold her again.

"Hello beautiful." He said surpising Denise.

Denise jumped and fell off the couch with a thump "Really Mcfinigan?"she said annoyed

"Really." He laughed giving her his hand. He helped her up and she smiled "Well what do you know you do know how to be a gentleman"

"I'm Irish not a gentleman." He said in his southern accent.

Denise rolled her eyes. "can I slap him?"she asked Frank

"What it's true." He teased.

Denise just laid back down on the couch. "You are a jackass." She said.

"Well damn. Trying to be friendly."

She laughed "So am I"

"On a more serious note-" At that Drew came down stairs with his very beautiful wife.

"Hey everyone." Sue said and then saw McFinigan "Why is he here?"

"Best man." He said.

Sue laughed and looked at Denise "and you okayed this?"she asked

"At this point I'm happy he has a best man."

Sue laughed again "Well anyway I just thought you'd like to see your invitatimeons"

"Not now Sue."

"So Sergeant. You married her didn't you." He said with a wicked smile on his face.

"Yeah I sure did"he said and put his arm around Sue.

Sue smiled. She placed her hand over her stomach and he picked up on the fact that she was pregnant. "I'll be damned. Damn I didn't know you stimell had it in you."

"Oh shoce it up your ass McFinigan"Drew said rolling his eyes.

Frank tried his best not to laughed but it was all over his face.

"You to Sherwood"Drew said laughing

At that he and his best man let out laughter.

Sue laughed "Okay boys let's act our age"she said "Frank what did you do to my sister to make her crabby?"

At the age com nt mcfininagin held in a joke.

"Dude knock it off"Frank said laughing knowing full well he had so thing to say.

"Susie! Did you take my diamond ear rings again?" Said Beth as she came downstairs.

"No why?"she asked as Sue made it to the bottom step.

Mcfinigian looked at the teenaged girl with a smile everyone notimeced.

"Hey"Beth said smiling

"Hi." He said trying so hard to only look at her eyes.

"I'm Beth"she said smiling "Have we t?"

"No...Connor McFiligian."

"Nice to meet you"she said and shook his hand.

Drew went to Connor and whispered. "Jailbait."

Connor blushed. Beth however only went into another room leaving the five alone.

"Don't even think about it Connor." Denise warned, she was still on the couch.

"Think of what?" He said finally snapping out if the daze Beth created.

"Going after my baby sister!" She said. "She's out of your league and she's also underage."

He only looked at Drew and smirked.

"What's with that creepy smirk you two?" Denise asked.

"Nothing." Connor said. You could see the drive in his eyes already.

Denise sighed. "Oh dear God."

"Connor let's go to what you Irish do best." Frank said trying to get him away.

"Where are you going?" Denise asked.

"Show him around." As soon as they where out of eye shot they heard Connor say. "Where's the whiskey?"

Denise rolled her eyes and Sue laughed. "What is with you?" She asked.

"That no good Irish bastard is... no good."

Sue laughed. "Denise you have been in a bad mood all day." She said. "What's wrong?"

"Wedding planing. Now I know why women go crazy."

Sue sat with her. "Well your hubby has taken care of you for hours so don't be mad at him for going out with his friend."

"Not mad at Frank. Just want an eye on Beth is all."

"She'll be fine. It's not like he can take her innocece, she already lost it." She laughed.

"She has a boyfriend over seas!"

"She's sixteen. She'll have a new one before he gets home."

"Sue what's that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing. Why are you being so bitchy?"

"I'm going to bed." She decided.

Everyone stared after her as she went up the stairs and cringed when the door slammed

Denise woke up at around noon with a large smile on her face.

She went downstairs. "Hey everyone!" Everyone but Frank and Connor where there. "Where is Frank?" She asked.

"In his room passed out!" Said a very angry Joe.

"What happened?" She asked.

"Some of my workers found him and his buddy cow tipping and completely wasted."

Once again Denise was mad but this time strictly at Connor, she went to the guest room and found him and everyone in the house heard "get your lazy ass up!"

The two men where thrown on the bed together. Both cringed at being woken up by her yelling.

"Okay Frank you have three seconds to get your friend out of MY house or I'll throw his no good ass out and then beat him with momma's whip!" She shouted.

"Denise we're not very drunk." Frank said as he fell onto Connor.

"Yeah I can see that." She said rolling her eyes. "get the hell up now!"

"No Frank." Connor burped. "You you are drunk." He said picking up a bottle of her uncle's tequila.

Denise snatched it away. "Either get up or I swear I will hit you both with this bottle!" She said and was not kidding.

At that Frank fell onto the floor. "Baby please don't yell."

"I'm not!" She shouted.

Connor fell onto of Frank. His head buzzing. "Denise you-you're so pretty." Frank said after throwing off Connor.

"Oh go to hell!" She said, she was so angry she was shaking.

"Shhhh! Denise its morning." Said Connor standing up.

"It's afternoon you jackass!" She said and grabbed Connot by his collar and pulled him up and shoved him toward the door.

He hit the wall. "Denise it's my fault." Frank said trying to walk over.

Denise put her hand up. "The best thing you can do is shut up!" She snapped.

Frank walker over and fell on Connor. Denise rolled her eyes and just left the room and slammed the door. Beth was in the hallway. She was laughing.

"What?" Denise asked annoyed.

"You missed when mamma yelled at them."

"Good I hope she beats the hell out of them both!"

"They where so drunk that Frank thought she was you and smacked her ass."

Denise's mouth dropped. "No he did not!"

"YES! Mamma smacked him so hard."

Denise shook her head. "He's a dead man when he is sober."

"I thought it was funny. I mean you and mamma look so much alike."

"No we don't." She said.

"Hmm you're right. She's soooooo much prettier."

Denise's mouth dropped again. "Bitch!" She laughed.

Beth smiled and tried to peck into the room.

"What are they doing?" Denise asked.

"Oh. Nothing sleeping on the floor."

Denise rolled her eyes. "I hate Frank so much."

Beth kept peeking into the room. Denise grabbed her arm and pulled her into her bedroom.

"What was that for!"

"Stay away from Connor." She said.

"What? I don't even know him." She rolled her eyes.

"You are a babbly freking wreck." She said. "I'm serious Bethany, stay away from him, he is bad news."

"Because I totally want a drinking twenty year old Irish solider."

"Seems like it." She said.

"I have a some one! And he's fighting in Korea."

"Okay." Denise said letting it go.

"Besides. I'm seventeen today. Not that you or anyone has seemed to notice."

Denise looked like she wanted to die. "Beth oh my...I am so sorry happy birthday."

"At least Tim remembered." She said walking away.

Denise sighed, this week had been hell and to top it off Frank was leaving again in three days to finish his tour. She was again feeling the pain in her stomach and for once in her life she genuinely acted like Catalina. She brushed it off and went about her business. She got on a horse and rode.

She did that until well after dark then realize she hadn't eaten anything so she went inside to get so thing, Frank was up and looking very miserable. "Well look who finally decided to show their face." She said avoiding him at every turn. She kept walking and didn't stop

"What's your problem?" He asked.

"My problem is that an entire acre of the grazing grounds is growing mushrooms and I'll soon have a lot of sick cows."

"So?" He said like it was no big deal

"Frank. Those mothers get sick and abort their calf's we lose a third of the population for next year. We won't make our yearly quota."

"Denise what's the big deal. It's not like we'll be here for much longer."

"You might not be, but I will. Unless uncle gets married and Sue changes her mind these lands are mine."

"So what about being my wife? Does that not mean anything?"

"Glad you think about being your wife now."

"What?" He asked. "Denise that is all I have thought about since I asked you to marry me!"

"Frank your little cow tipping last night and fire you and your little friend lit up last night. Then you hitting on my mom doesn't really show it."

He sighed "So what are you saying?"

"I'm mad at you."

"As always." He said getting up and getting coffee.

"You don't like it? Well then don't marry me!" Denise took off her ring and laid it on the table and went upstairs, once at the top she prayed that he'd come after her, she did not want this to happen. She had no idea why she did that.

Frank came after her, she was sitting in her room on her bed looking at her now bare hand when he came through the door.

He went to hold her. She wasn't crying but he knew she should have. "Frank the cows. What will I do with those cows?" He knew this was more then just about the cows.

"We'll figure something out baby. Now what has got my girl so upset and I know it's more than that?"

"Frank its awful." She said leaving his arms and going to sit on the chair.

He followed and sat on the arm of the chair and put his hand on her shoulder,he was going to make sure she knew he loved her and was there for her no matter what "What's awful honey?"

"This wedding. You, cows. Oh the cows."

"Denise honey calm down"he said he could see a panic attack in her near future if she kept this up "Come here."

She went into his arms. Surprised her heart wasn't raising.

"Okay now you just calm down, we'll figure something out." He said rubbing her back. "I'll get rid of the mushrooms myself if I have to."

"Thousands of them. And poor Bethany, no one remembered today was her birthday. Tim did. But her own family didn't."

He sighed. "That was my fault, I got stupid drunk and acted like an idiot and caused everyone to have to deal with me. I'm sorry."

"No one got her a present or cake. It's not your fault."

He smiled "Not yet they haven't." He said.

"Frank forget it. She already told me something and she'll know I told everyone else."

"So" He said "We'll throw her a party anyways"

"She wont care. I'm telling you."

He nodded "Then tell what I can do." He said, he wanted so bad to make all this craziness go away and just shelter her from every bad thing that might happen.

"Frank you're a saint." She said kissing him.

He laughed "I don't think so"he said "But I do love you and hate seeing you upset"

"Frank you're fine honey."

He nodded and kissed her again over and over again. When it lead to the bed Denise smirked.

"Don't look at like that"he laughed and kissed her again

"Frank tell me something."

"What honey?

"Anything."

He laughed "Well I love you"he said smiling

"Something I don't know."

"My favorite color is blue"he laughed

"I know that." She smiled.

"I think you know everything about by now"he said

"You wouldn't cheat on me?"

"Never"he said "Why would you even think that honey?"

"Would you ever hit me?"

"Absolutely not"he replied "I would never hit a woman period"

"Would you ever divorce me?"

"Not even if you wanted to" He replied getting up off the arm of her chair and kneeling in front of her and holding her hand.

"Would you tell everything?"

He nodded "Yes ma'am."

"So tell what you want for our wedding, our reception, or wedding night."

"Anything that makes you smile is what I want." He said and kissed her hands.

"I want to know what you want."

"I told you as long as you are happy I'll be happy. You are the only thing that matters so as long as I am marrying you I am fine."

"I talked to Sue about being married today."

"What did she say?"he asked

"That its all about sex at first. Then it starts getting harder."

"Only if we let it"he said and kissed her.

"She meant deployments."

"We'll get through it babe" He promised

"I wish I hadn't fallen in live with a soldier. It scares me."

"Don't be scared angel"he said pulling her up and holding her "Nothing in the world to be scared of,I'm not going anywhere"

"Scared to death that you'll die."

"I promise you I will not die"he said

She smirked.

He laughed "You are cute when you do that"

She kissed him.

He kissed her then smacked her ass "That's for earlier when I thought Catalina was you"

Her mouth dropped. "Soldier!" She smiled and smacked his add back.

"Hey that wasn't nice"he said laughing

He got up and Denise giggled. Denise clung to Frank again "What's the matter baby?" Frank asked holding her

"Just this whole day couldn't get any worst." She said getting up. She was holding Frank's hand as she walked out of the room.

"Where are we going?" He asked.

"For a walk." She said. She just wanted to be alone with Frank.

He nodded and put his arm around her and led her outside.

"Yes, the luck of the Irish." Denise heard Connor say. He was talking to Beth and threw her a golden coin. She was giggling.

"Can you please make him leave?"Denise asked.

"Frank laughed. "Why? All he did was show her a magic trick?"

"And got you drunk and topped over a bunch of cows" she said

Frank laughed and he was about to add to what they did but decided not to tell Denise.

"What?" She asked noticing the look on his face.

He smiled and shook his head. Denise was about to say so thing but she rather hear what Connor was telling Beth.

"You know your sister has a big mouth" he said and Beth giggled

"Which one?"

"Denise" he laughed

"Oh, it's always about Denise. Denise this Denise that, I don't want to hear anything else about her."

He laughed "Okay" he said "you know you're a very pretty girl"

"Thank you, you know I never get told that. Having the bombshell sisters that I have."

"Please they are nothing compared to you" he said putting his arms around her

"You're too sweet. I never knew the Irish where capable of being sweet, because they sure as hell are the worst lairs." She said with a smug look on her face. As if the comment didn't an anything but it did. He laughed ad Denise nearly fell over when he kissed her cheek. She smirked and removed his arm.

"What's the matter?" He asked

"Other then being seventeen and you almost twenty-one?"

"So your sisters twenty and her husband is forty." He laughed

"She's awful. But what I mean other then age, I have a boyfriend in Korea."

"Oh" he said and backed off.

"Besides, I'm sure you have several woman."

He laughed "No ma'am"

"Yeah I heard you and Frank used to have most of the girls at post all over you."

"Yeah but none of them were ever serious."

"Of course, but you probley have a girl you want back in Georgia."

"No I had a a girl when I first moved here but she's engaged now."

"I'm sorry." She said.

He smiled "ah it's okay I'm over her"

She smiled. "That's good." She said kissing his cheek.

"I thought you had a boyfriend" he smiled

"You kissed my cheek."

He laughed "oh so you were just returning the favor?"

She nodded.

"We'll that's very polite of you" he smirked.

"Yes."

He laughed "hey you want to go get something to eat?" He asked "as friends"

"Sure." She said with a smile.

He took her hand and she smiled and they got in his car and left.

"I'll be, looks like she's going to use him till her solider gets back." frank laughed.

"Not if I have anything to say about it" Denise said "I will not stand by and let her use Tim!"

"Denise she's using Connor."

"She's using them both!" She said starting to pace

"Denise she's here without any friends and being ignored by everyone for you."

"What's that supposed to an?" She asked crossing her arms

"She just needs a little attention is all."

"So this is my fault?" She asked

"No, you have a wedding to plan."

She sighed "everyone has been so focused on my wedding they forgot her"

"Yeah, so don't blame yourself."

"Once she gets some attention she'll drop Connor."

"How can I not" she said "I was so focused on having a perfect wedding my baby sister got forgotten!"

"Denise she'll get over it."

"No I have to fix this" she said, she always tried to fix everything and ended up hurting herself

"Denise you should lay down and sleep. You had a bad day. Tomorrow will be better."

"I'm not tired" she said "I need to something about Beth"

"Beth is fine."

She sighed and leaned on him. He walked her back to her room.
