Author's note- Thank you so much for the continuous support! It means a lot that you all are still bothering to read this!
I'd like to say a huge thank you to keykeybaby6 and movies4lyf for leaving lovely reviews- it honestly made my day. As for what I asked last time, I think I will maybe be including more personal scenes but I will put a warning at the beginning of a chapter if I need to.

Chapter 20
Two of the Syfy producers had come over to show what they'd done with the episode that was due to air in two weeks on Easter. Admittedly, I'd forgotten their names, but they did make sure to introduce themselves to welcome me on board now that they knew I'd be staying with TAPS and appearing regularly on the show. Jay and Grant helped them to set up their laptops on the table in the main part of the building- where Kris usually briefed Jay and Grant on the next case.
"It's only a rough version," One of the producers said- I think his name was Mark.
"But then again, we really haven't had much time," the other producer- who I think was called Josh- said.
"I'm surprised you lot have even managed to create a rough episode," Jay muttered, "I was expecting half an episode at most."
"You'd be surprised what we can do when there's good footage like that that Syfy wants." Mark replied.
"The way we decided to structure it, is to have the opening bit done by Jason, Grant and Lucy," Josh informed us, "Then have you as individuals introduce each clip we are going to show, with your input as to the events in between." He sighed, "It's more difficult than normal, but it works." He paused, thinking, "It's different from the show, but the fact that there is no camera crew on the actual investigation just works quite well in other ways."
"Sounds great," Grant said. Mark tapped a few more things on his laptop before we all huddled around them in a group. The Syfy producer pressed the 'play' button before he and Josh moved out of the way to let us have a good view of the episode so far.
Everyone loved it- needless to say. The tension we gave in our introductions to each clip added a nice touch. The EVPs were eerie, the thermal footage was crazy and the video clips, of the white mist and the apparition, were insane. When it came to the part where Grant was getting hurled around the room, I winced, feeling pain at watching him get hurt. Grant noticed this and touched my hand before I even had thought about scratching it; he held my hand in his and shot me a warm smile- which I returned gratefully. He was good for me. And I think I was good for him. Suddenly though, Steve stopped the video.
"Did that really happen?" He looked at us with wide eyes. Steve looked sceptical, "I've never heard of something that bad happening let alone see it."
"It really did happen," I nodded before Jay or Grant had a chance to say anything. "I know it doesn't seem real but it is, and it was so scary." My voice was a whisper. "It's a shame you guys couldn't have been there because it was... crazy!"
"Yeah I have battle scars!" Grant laughed as he lifted up his long sleeves to show the stitches in his arm. Finally, he lifted up his fringe slightly for them all to get a good view of the cut on his forehead.
"Poor soldier," Kris mocked.
"As you'll see we had to go to hospital." Jay grinned.
"It's crazy," Steve muttered, laughing.
"Come on, play it," Tango shoved Steve, making his friend press play again.
We all continued to watch as Grant was knocked unconscious and taken out of the room. An interview with Jay after the clip explained how they went to hospital and that Grant had a mild concussion and needed stitches. Shortly after his interview though, we saw several pictures. Simultaneously, we burst out in fits of laughter.
They were pictures of Grant in hospital. A few were of him lying on the bed; a couple were of his injuries. The next one was one of me asleep holding Grant's hand- I blushed. And the next few were pictures of Jason's 'selfies' where he had held his phone up high to get a picture of himself with Grant and I sleeping in the background.
"I cannot believe you man," Grant groaned.
"We're keeping them in so don't even fight it!" Josh said, making us snicker.
"Yeah, Syfy loves a bit of blood," Jason grinned as Grant mock punched him.
Anyway, we finished watching the episode feeling thoroughly impressed at what the Syfy guys had managed to do over the course of a couple of days.
"Wow." Steve and Tango said.
"Well we've finished the interviews, we don't need any more, but we've just got to clean it all up and do our thing and then we should have a full episode done. Oh, and if you have a chance take a look on the Syfy Youtube channel- the trailer is already up and has several hits!" Mark said. "So we'll take our leave. But the guys at Syfy said that they'd like to start filming more cases ASAP."
"I've already found us a case," Kris piped up.
"Where abouts?" Jay asked.
"Connecticut." Kris replied, "It's at an abandoned insane asylum that treated their patients really badly. It's not going to be there much longer as they're tearing it down to use the land. But the current owner of the land has heard from the caretaker of all these stories that went on there. Other ghost hunting groups have been there and heard and seen some strange things. So as a last goodbye to the place, he wants us to investigate and see if we can document any activity and get proof of what he and others have been seeing."
"Sounds great," Jason agreed.
"Well we'll call up Syfy and send the camera and sound guys for you," Josh said. "If you can be ready for the day after tomorrow, we'll get ready to film for then."
"Sounds fine to me," Jay nodded.
The Syfy guys said goodbye and left promptly with their laptops.
"Wow." I said, running a hand through my hair. "An insane asylum huh."
"It's supposed to be pretty active," Kris told me.
"It'll hopefully be a bit less active than Spectre's manor." Grant laughed, I mumbled an agreement and watched as Kris left us to call up the owner of the asylum.
"So, first investigation as an official member of the TAPS team," Jason said, "How do you feel about that?"
"Nervous but extremely excited!" I replied.
"Good," He nodded thoughtfully, "Hey G," Jay turned to Grant, "Do you mind if I have a chat with you for a bit?"
"Sure thing," Grant stretched his arms before smiling at me and following Jason into their office. I watched him leave, my focus on them, but suddenly, Steve jumped over to me with a bag of sweets.
"I bet you can throw up two of these sweets in the air and catch them both in your mouth," Steve dared both me and Tango.
"Oh you're on!" Tango challenged.
"What are we betting?" I asked with a smirk on my face as we all brought out our money. I would definitely fit in well here.
Grant's point of view
I followed my best friend- Jason Hawes- into our decent sized office, he shut the door behind us and we both took our respective seats behind our desks, moving them out slightly to be a little closer to have a more private talk. I leaned back comfortable and exhaled with a small smile; looking at Jason I saw him watching me with a smile to mimic my own.
"So what's up?" I asked, wondering what he wished to talk about.
"I actually just wanted to see how you're doing." He shrugged. "How are things going with Lucy?"
"Its early days, but I think it's just going to go so well," I admitted. I took a deep breath and confided in him: "I actually asked her to move in with me earlier this morning." Jason had a look of surprise on his face.
"So much for taking things slowly," he grinned.
"I know, I may have rushed it and in hindsight I should have waited a little. But... I want to live with her Jay; I want to be with her." I bit my lip, "And she said yes. So she's going to give notice on her apartment and I suppose after the case she'll move in."
"You're okay with that?"Jay queried.
"Why wouldn't I be?" I furrowed my brow.
"I just want to make sure G," Jason scratched his head as he looked at me, observing my calm facial expressions. "I know how messed up you were last time- I wasn't around to witness it but even when I met you I knew you weren't right when it came to relationships. I just don't want you to rush things and get hurt."
"Aw, who's a caring big brother," I cooed mockingly with a laugh, Jason chuckled and stuck his middle finger up in retaliation. I just laughed again. Jay was like a brother to me, we may joke about it but he was family, he was there through the thick and thin, and I couldn't thank him enough. "Well as you know both Lucy and I are in the same boat when it comes to bad relationships. It will be fine, I just have this feeling." I didn't know how to explain myself but I think Jason understood.
"Anyway, we have this case the day after tomorrow. For today, I say we show Lucy around, let Steve properly show her the equipment and just let her get a feel for it all. Tomorrow, I'd like to see everyone in the afternoon to have a quick talk about the case and to brief Lucy in on what may happen etcetera." Jay decided, "Sound good?"
"Sounds like a plan." I nodded my head. We were silent for a moment. "Thanks Jay." He smiled at me, knowing what I was thanking him for. In the following moments of quiet, we were startled to hear a shriek. I looked at Jay with a funny look and he looked back at me with a frown but we were both on the verge of laughter. Bolting out of the office we were met with the sight of Lucy catching three sweets in her mouth at the same time. Her, Steve and Tango were all sitting on the floor.
"Pay up losers!" She laughed as she chewed on the sweets. With a grumble, Steve and Tango handed her over twenty dollars each.
"I can't believe you let her win," Tango pushed Steve's arm.
"At least I didn't scream like a girl," The ex cop quipped, pushing Dave with just as much force.
"Wait that was Tango that shrieked?" Jay asked incredulously.
"What a sissy," I muttered good naturedly.
"Steve threw a sweet in my mouth when I was trying to catch my own sweet in my mouth," Tango grumbled in his defence, "It caught me off guard is all."
"I'm looking forward to more bets and dares," Lucy told Steve with a grin.
"I won't let you win next time," Steve said, "I was going easy on you."
"Sure thing," Lucy laughed.
Jason quickly briefed everyone as to what the plan was over the next couple of days. Kris came in and said she'd managed to speak to the owner of the asylum and that we'd be investigating the night that the camera crew came over- so all in all it would be a bit of a rush. It would take approximately one hour and forty five minutes to get to the asylum, and we had to film a bit in the morning. We'd be able to then leave off for the hotel, then take off to the asylum, meet with the owner in the afternoon, set up, wait until night fall and then finally investigate! Then we would wrap things up, review the evidence at the hotel, then Jay and I would do the reveal- then we'd drive back. It sounded busy, but I could see the excitement in Lucy's eyes. I knew she'd do her best.
I watched her chat to Steve and Dave as they took her to the basement of the TAPS office building. They were going to show her all of the equipment and how it all worked just to make sure she had a rough idea. It seemed like everything was going to be good. Hopefully the upcoming investigation would reflect that.
Hopefully the asylum wouldn't have a spirit prepared to attack us.
Author's note- Thank you for reading. I promise I'll get on to the next investigation in the next few chapters! It's not easy to write, this, so please leave a review. Thanks again!
