Chapter 19: don't be sad
(Jack pov)
I guess the home that lily was talking about was her home. I figured this out when we showed up at the home that we were already at once before today. Lily had said nothing when we entered; in fact she said nothing the whole way here. I won't argue though, I said nothing either. I wasn't really aware of my surroundings as we stopped walking and I was standing in the middle of a room, my guess the living area because of the scattered movies, TV, couch, and few remotes. Lily let go of my hand and walked down a hall to I guess another room. Before she got far she said, "I am going to change, why don't you make some popcorn. We can watch a movie." Then I saw nothing or heard nothing of her. She didn't even look at me and make eye contact like usually.
I took a deep breath and put my staff up against the wall where couch was, then proceeded to the kitchen. It only took three minutes to find the popcorn and five minutes to figure out how to make it. After I finally figured it out I just stood waiting for it to finish. As I just stood there the memory of my sister on the ice and lily fall through the ice kept playing in my head. It was such a scary thing the first time and having to experience it the second didn't feel too good. This time though someone other than me fell through the ice. I sighed again, I am so luck that lily is immortal.
I stopped thinking about everything when I felt something lean against my back. I looked over my shoulder and slightly turned to see lily. She looked like she was burying her face in my sweatshirt and her hands tightly gripped the bottom of it. I was going to ask what was wrong when I heard a mumble. "Sorry lily, I didn't get that." she pulled her face out of my jacket so that only her forehead was touching my back. "I said that I am sorry. I probably scared you to death without meaning to." Her hands began to shake as she still held on to my sweatshirt. "I should have listened to you and have been more careful."
I soon heard sniffling and quickly turned around to face lily. She still looked down and she still gripped my sweatshirt. I brought her face up by lifting her chin. She had tears going down her face; it nearly broke my heart to see it. I quickly wrapped my arms around her and pull her in for a tight hug. "Shhh, its okay lily, its okay." I continued to calm her down and rub her head kind of like how she did with me.
We stood there for awhile until lily pulled away. She still had her grip on my sweatshirt and her face was now dry with tears. "y-you don't hate me." she said, her voice sounder hoarse from crying. When I heard her ask that I was shocked. I grabbed her by the shoulders and forced her to look at me. "Lily never in my life would I hate you." She said nothing but she didn't have to her face said it all. Her eyes sparkled again and her cheeks went back to their color. She slightly smiled, "good, I was scared that you did." I chuckled and shook my head.
We finally stopped standing around when a beeping sound was made signally the popcorn was done. Lily turned around to get a bowl while I got the popcorn, which was a mistake. I didn't know it would be hot when I grabbed the bag and I ending up dropping it on the floor. "Ow!" I said and shook my hand hoping the stinging would stop, it did. Lily was staring at me holding the bowl in her hands while she gave me a concerned and confused look. "I didn't know the bag would be hot." I explained and carefully pick the bag up setting it on the counter. Lily came up behind me and put the bowl next to the bag. "Well yeah it's going to be hot. It takes heat to make it." I rolled my eyes, "thanks for telling me now." She giggled and carefully opened the bag dumping the contents in the bowl. While she did so I finally notice that she was changed. She now wore what looked like baggy sweatpants and a striped gray and blue long sleeved shirt. I stopped looking at her when she nudged me in the stomach. "How do you like you hot chocolate?" She asked me as she turned to another cabinet looking for mugs. I though a minute, "hmm I guess kind of peppermint-y." she laughed, "ok". I then watched her struggle to reach the mugs on the high shelf. I couldn't contain myself as I busted out laughing. She looked over at me with a pouting face she always uses. I finally stopped laughing, "I'm sorry, let me help."
I got the mugs that she wanted but as I grabbed them I didn't realize that lily was in front of me. We now stood with our bodies press against each other. Our eyes met each other's and lily's face grew a little red. I imagine mine did the same because I felt my face kind of hot. Lily quickly broke her gaze by turning her head to the side. I back up and cleared my throat, "sorry, didn't see you there." She nodded her head, "its fine." She took the mugs from me, "why don't you pick a movie and I'll fix up the hot chocolate." I didn't argue with her just nodded my head and walk out of the kitchen.
I looked around the living room for a movie that seemed the least bit interesting. Until I found one with an interesting title. I smirked picking up the movie and walking over to the TV and placed it in the player. Just in time because lily walked in balancing the popcorn and mugs. I walked over to help by grabbing the popcorn. "So what movie did you pick?" She asked as we settled on the sofa. I smirked taking the cup she handed with the candy cane in it, "You will see." She looked at me suspiciously then sipped on her coco.
(Lily pov)
I am glad that jack doesn't hate me. But I regret letting him pick the movie. He wouldn't tell me which made me curious. What movie could he possible pick? I continued to think through the previews but still got nothing, until the movie finally started. "Jack why did you pick this movie." He chuckled, "what's wrong with the movie." "Have you ever seen it?" He shook his head so I continued. "This movie is sad." He looked at me confused, "how could a movie with my name on it be sad." "It's not really about you, it's about a family where the father dies and comes back as a snowman to help his son get through it." Jack seemed more confused, "then why is it called 'jack frost'." He kind of raised his voice as he said it so I raised mine a little, "because the father's name is jack frost." Jack sighed before he got up, "I'll pick out a different movie." Before he could move any further I grabbed his sleeve and pulled him back a little. "No, no it's fine. It's a great movie, just sad." He chuckled, "well I can promise you I won't cry." I sipped on my coco and mumbled 'I wouldn't be too sure.' and we continued the movie.
The first sad part of the movie I looked at jack. He didn't look too fazed by it but he looked really into the movie. We continued to watch the movie and when it got to the parts with the snowball fight and the sledding jack nearly jumped out of his seat. "See I told you, that is a 'jack frost' move." I laughed, "Ok, ok calm down." He sat back down and we continued. Towards the end I got a little tired and it got hard to keep my eyes open, but I wanted to see jack's reaction to the end. It finally got to me and I fell asleep.
(Jack pov)
Alright I give it to lily the ending was really sad and amazing. The movie was one that I definitely would be watching again. I looked over at lily prepared for her to be telling me 'I told you so', but instead she held an empty mug in her lap and her head was tilted to the side with her eyes closed, she had fallen asleep. She seemed to do this a lot, fall asleep at weird times. I kept watching her, her expression was innocent yet it held something that looked saddening. I finally decided she shouldn't be sleeping on the couch and stood up. I picked lily up placing her in my arms and walked to her room.
As I placed lily on her bed and tried to walk away I was pulled back a little. I looked down to see lily gripping the bottom of my sweatshirt again, is this a habit of hers. I tried to get her grip off but it was strong, stronger than Sophie's and that is saying something. I finally gave up and sat next to lily. She seemed pleased by this and pulled my sweatshirt closer. I grinned when she mumbled the words 'mine'. I rubbed her head thinking about the day's events again. As I did I began to get tired. The last thing I remembered was having something warm cuddle into my chest.
*time skip- around morning*
The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was another pair of eyes. Shocked by what I saw I fell off the bed and landed on the floor.
Wait, bed? That's right I put lily to bed last night. I must have fallen of sleep. "Sleep well frost?" lily said peering over the edge of the bed with a grin on her face. I sat up and rubbed my head, "yeah cause I love waking up scared." She laughed, "I'm not the one that wanted a cuddle buddy while they slept." Dang it, I knew she would use that against me. I turned my head away trying to hide how embarrassed I was. Then a pair of legs fell off the bed and lily got up stretching. I too stood up and examined the room looking for my staff. "Looking for something jack." Lily asked. I nodded my head, "yeah, where is my staff." She stopped stretching, "probably where you left it last." I thought a moment before going into the living room to retrieve my staff. A second later lily came out dress in her usual wear.
"So what do you want to do today?" She asked me. I just shrugged, "whatever we want I guess." She smiled then walked toward the exit. "Then let's go." I follow and we were off doing whatever we wanted. We continued to do this for the rest of the winter season. Whatever we did was fun, be it snowball fights, blizzards, or spending time with the kids we had fun.
Before I knew it winter was coming to an end and spring was just around the corner along with Easter. Just thinking about it made me kind of sad and I guess lily noticed. "What's wrong jack." We were currently outside of lily's home in the part where it still looked like winter but right next to it stood the spring part. That's where lily stood closet. I sighed and flew closer to lily to sit on a rock, I said nothing but lily picked up on it. "You're sad aren't you?" I said nothing she continued. "You're sad because winter is coming to an end and that means no more winter fun right." I said nothing just nodded my head. Soon lily walked over to me and bent down so we were the same level. "Winter will come again jack. Besides it's not like you have nothing to do, you and me are going to be hanging out right." I smiled a little and nodded again. Lily smiled too, "why don't you make one more snowstorm before it all ends." This got me excited and I was about to agree when I remembered. I sighed, "If I do bunny with get angry." She laughed a little, "That is why I am giving you permission. Besides Easter is only a week and a half away." I smiled and stood up happy to go, "you coming." I asked lily before going. She shook her head, "I got a lot to do here. Tell Sophie and Jamie I said hi." I nodded and flew off going to the places I want to make it blizzard. Just delivering the blizzard to the places I wanted took two day, but it made me feel better.
My last stop was burgess where I would play with Jamie until it was time for me to say goodbye. Jamie and his friends where happy to get another snow day before winter ended. We spent the snow day playing around. Building forts for snowball fights and extreme sledding which I gladly helped Jamie with.
It was at least three or four hours into playing that I saw the northern lights. I sighed, "I got to go Jaime, guardian business." He looked sad but then I patted his head. "Don't worry kid I'll be back again. Maybe this time lily will be with me." "Flower! Flower!" Sophie shouted while hopping up and down, I smiled at that. "Ooohhh. Jack has a crush on lily!" Claude shouted. "Jack and lily sitting in a tree," Caleb sang. "Alright, alright guys that's enough. I'll see ya around." I flew off to the workshop as the kids kept on singing and say 'love –dovey' things.
I finally arrived to see everyone there doing their own thing. Bunny was trying to paint and argue with north about the Easter vs. Christmas thing, tooth was naming palaces for her fairies, and sandy was sleeping. I finally walked closer to the group. "Hey guys what's with the surprise meeting." Bunny quick turned to me and jumped closer. "What's the meanin of the blizzard mate?" I held my hands up defensively, "hey don't blame me I got permission from lily." "Speaking of lily," north said butting in. "vhere is she." "She told me two days ago she was busy." North nodded his head then tapped sandy to wake him. "So why are we all here?" I asked curiously. "Yeah mate, why ya call when Easter is so close." Bunny said clearly irritated. North said nothing just stared at the globe thinking. "It's strange; pitch has not shown after last fight." Tooth then flew over, "he has a point, I think it's odd too." Sandy then floated over and pointed to the top of his head where there was a shape of the moon. "You want us to ask the moon." Tooth asked. Sandy nodded his head. "Great idea." North said with his booming voice then he turned to the skylight. "Man in moon, help us. Vhy has pitch not attacked." Nothing happened after awhile until a light shined on a spot on the globe. Then on the floor showing a danger sign. "Is pitch attacking there?" Asked tooth. "Must be," Said bunny. "But why attack there. What's important there?"
We all exchanged looks before another sign appeared. It was a figure of a girl, a familiar figure. Then it came to me, "lily! That's where lily's home is." "Ve must go now, she vill need help." We all rushed to the sleigh, it took bunny awhile to go with us but north had no patience and through him in. we were off in minutes which I was glad about. The only thing that went on in my head was the worry that I had for lily. I hope she is safe.
