Chapter 20: Tails' Guilt
The Ifrit flew through the air, looking over the destroyed sand filled cities and the clear skies for and an orange two tailed fox. It soon saw him in the Evil Foundry and went inside. "What are you doing here?" It asked.
Tails looked at him and then looked away again. "Can't I just be left alone in peace for just awhile?" His ears bent back as tears appeared in his eyes once more.
The Ifrit sighed. "Tails, you can still be with Sonic, you just can't see him."
"I miss him though. I know I can still be with him, but..." Tails looked at the Ifrit and it saw Tails' tears. "...I want to actually see Sonic again, feel his hugs, bro-fists and even his noogies!"
The Ifrit looked at him and narrowed its optics. "That's not going to happen, Tails," it told him. "Sonic is trapped in his lamp forever and nothing, not even the World Rings, can let him out. It's because of Mephiles' wish."
"HOW CAN ONE WISH DO THAT?" Tails cried as tears streamed down his face and then he his face in his knees, continuing to cry.
"If a wish is made on the genie itself, they cannot undo it."
"THAT'S UNFAIR, ESPECIALLY ON SONIC!"
"Life isn't fair," the Ifrit Golem said. It stood up and looked at Tails. "Get used to it."
Tails looked at the mechanical Golem and glared at it. "You're still the same old Shadow even if you are in a different form."
The Ifrit Golem nodded. "Come on," it said. "Let's go back to the others."
Tails turned his head away from it, "I...don't want to right now."
"Alright. I'll stay with you until you do."
Tails glared at it and shook his head. "No. I want to be alone."
The Ifrit Golem looked at him. "Okay," it said. "I won't be far."
Tails watched it leave as it headed deeper into the Foundry. Tails shook and cried into his knees, wondering why...this had happened to them...especially Sonic. He yawned and fell asleep. When he woke up, it was night. Hours had passed, and the Ifrit Golem had gone deep into the Foundry. He hesitated and stood up, wondering where it was.
"Shadow?" He got no answer and he felt a sliver of fear squirm its way down his spine and he shuddered, thinking it was just the wind or cold and wrapped his arms around himself. "Shadow!" He called for the Ifrit.
He hesitated and walked deeper into the Evil Foundry, searching for the Ifrit Golem. He called out for it and eventually saw it was sitting near a pool of magma. It looked at Tails as he came forwards.
"S...Shadow? Why are you down here?" Tails asked, his tails wrapping around his body in fear.
The Ifrit Golem looked at him. "I'm exploring the Foundry," it said, focusing its optics on him. "I'm thinking about living here."
Tails froze as those words left him. "You want to live...here?"
It nodded. "The previous Ifrit did so...it makes since that I do as well now that I'm the Ifrit Golem."
"Oh, okay." Tails shuddered as he felt another sliver of fear worm its way up his spine. "How do I get back?"
The Ifrit scanned the room. It then looked at Tails. "I've sent Mephiles to come and get you," it said. "Don't worry. He is under my command and will not hurt you."
Tails froze and backed away from the Ifrit, shaking his head. "No. Even if you say he's under your control...I will not go near him." The fox clenched his fists by his sides and looked up at Shadow, instantly seeing the now sudden rage overwhelming the fox's ocean blue eyes. "IT'S HIS FAULT SONIC'S TRAPPED IN HIS LAMP!"
The Ifrit frowned. "Alright," it said, and gave Tails directions to the way back to the city. Tails gulped and looked in the direction of the way out and then back at Shadow. His eyes holding fear in them once more. "You're not coming?"
The Ifrit hesitated. "I'll come with you, then come back here after dropping you off."
Tails nodded, and they went back to Sandopolis. After dropping Tails off, the Ifrit Golem looked at Mephiles, who gulped and followed it back to the Evil Foundry. Tails watched them leave, his eyes narrowing when they landed on Mephiles. Once the Ifrit got to the Foundry, its optics landed on the giant scorpion.
"Mephiles," it said. "We have to talk."
The scorpion looked to the Ifrit and nodded, slightly and there was slight confusion in his eyes also. What about?
"About Sonic. Why did you wish for him to be trapped inside his lamp forever?"
I did it so he wouldn't stop me from destroying the Arabian Nights, but it looks like that failed.
The Ifrit Golem glared at him. "Well, thanks to you, his best friend Tails hates you and is really upset you did that," it told him.
Mephiles looked at it. I'd rather that than have that annoying rat in the way, the scorpion replied, blankly.
"You serve me now, Mephiles. Remember that. If you do anything to harm them again, I will not hesitate to kill you."
Mephiles' eyes held no emotion as they scanned the Ifrit's optics and then growled. He then, scuttled away. The Ifrit watched him leave. Then it nodded and walked to the center of the Foundry. Once there, it sat down and began to think about everything that happened.
