Chapter Nineteen

Liam's body crumpled to the ground with an echoing thud. Killian looked at his brother lying unconscious a chorus of "you saved him, you saved him, you saved him.." ringing in his ears. Then why did he feel so awful?

Emma reached for Liam and flipped him on his back. She placed her warm, sweaty hands onto his ice cold head. A shiver travelled down her spine.

Everything was silent. Even Hope and Jones, too young to understand half of the things that just happened, knew not to speak.

Silence hung through the air like carbon monoxide threatening to end Killians very existence. Regina walked toward the body her heels the only noise.

Emma's breath was caught on her throat.

Regina moved to touch the body, but stopped herself. She asked for permission to help.

"What could you do?" Emma whispered "He's dead."

Killian's sob vibrated throughout the mausoleum.

"You know what magic can transcend death?" Regina asked reaching for her daughters hands, but Emma pulled back, she couldn't feel anything, let alone for her mother. The hurt was evident on Regina's face. "Light magic."

Emma's irritation grew. She didn't have light magic, she was a rotten apple.

"Where the hell am I supposed to get light magic?" Emma snapped. She clenched her eyes together fearing that she may cry.

Killian stared at his hands in shock, someone died. Someone is dead because of Killian. The aching pit of despair in his stomach would belong to somebody else, it would be because of him.

"You're son," Regina smiled at her beautiful daughter, the daughter that stood by her when she didn't deserve it and she threw it away for revenge. Regina wanted her daughter to accept her. She wanted her daughter to love her again. "He has light magic, he is the product of the lightest magic of all,"

True Love.

Emma pressed her lips together and held in a sob. She stood up from Liams lifeless body and ambled towards her son. She crouched down to his size and held his hands in hers. Henry was stunned, witnessing murder and love and acceptance over this man the he didn't know. Emma pressed her forehead to her darling innocent boy that she knew would come out of life scarred and battered and torn, but Emma wanted to protect him. She would not be her mother, but she was going to find out how to help her son without ruining him. To let him fight his battles, without throwing him into war.

Emma needed to protect her children. It was her duty. It was her purpose. She would die before anything happened to them. Emma would destroy whatever threatens her children.

"Henry," Emma whispered into her son's forehead planting a light kiss on him. Henry stood unmoving. "Please, help Liam,"

Henry shook his head. He pressed their heads together harder, what if he failed?

"I don't know how," Henry said pouring every ounce of truth he had in him to make her understand.

"Henry, you are the smartest boy I know," Emma smiled and kissed her sons nose. She traced a heart around his with her fingers. "Magic is based on belief, just believe in yourself my love,"

Henry nodded. He looked at his Dad who was sitting with Jones in his lap not paying attention to what was going on. He looked lost. Henry's heart ached for him. Henry looked at his Grandmother, and saw nothing but love and regret in her eyes.

Henry knew what he had to do. He crouched down near the cold lifeless body and held the man's hands, it felt like rocks. Henry hesitated and he looked at the man. Henry wanted to help him. He wanted to help his Dad, he wanted to help his Mom. He wanted to use his magic. Henry didn't want to hurt anyone, he just wanted to be a hero.

Henry shut his eyes and clenched the mans hand as if he was the one dying, and he thought of the times when he felt most alive. When his dad would spin him around the living room, watching his parents have petty fights about how to clean a diaper when Hope was born, going to school for the first time, when his mom kisses his forehead before he goes to sleep, his Dads smile.

Heat spread from Henry's hand to the man and it enveloped the man's entire body until his eyelids spread open gasping for air. Hand through his hands upwards in a surrendering motion. Henry took a step back from the man that his mom ran and hugged. Emma wrapped her arms around his neck and squished him into her, Liam was taller than her so her head slammed into his shoulder.

"Liam I am so happy that you are back-" Emma said breaking the hug but was interrupted by a confused Liam.

"Who are you?" Liam asked eyebrows squishing into his forehead. "Who's Liam?"

"Liam, are you serious? Thats you?" Emma said taking a step forward towards her good friend.

"My name is Archie," Liam said and Emma couldn't understand why he was pretending that he couldn't remember who he was. We found him! Emma wanted to shout, why was he pretending he didn't know us! Dread washed over Emma's entire body. "I've never met a Liam,"

Everybody was looking at Regina, waiting for her to figure it out.

Regina shook her head.

"We may have broken the curse incorrectly," Regina said feebly, but all Killian could hear was betrayal.
