How's it going guys and gals? Storyus Raccoonus here with chapter 20 of Unexpected feelings. Also before I start this chapter if any of you are interested a friend of mine has written two Harry Key stories of his own on Fictionpress titled Harry Key: The early days and Harry Key: The next step. For those of you who like Harry's revolver one of them even explains how he actually got it. Plus Arsene Key and Lupin Key even appear for the first time and also, see if you can guess what his mother's name is a pun of. So this chapter will be debuting my third OC that I've kept bringing up, some might call it cliche or predictable but I honestly don't care if it is.
(9:00PM)
"Sooooo. Your first heist with the guys is tonight." Sly said to Harry trying to make small talk while both raccoons were sat on either end of the couch.
"Yep. Bentley even let me think of my own way to sneak onto the train too." Harry said slightly happily but he got an unexpected reaction when Sly shot up from her slouched position with wide eyes.
"Bentley let you help plan the heist too!? That's unbelievable! Back when the three of us were just starting out and I wanted to give my two cents on one of his plans he would just shoo me out of the room without a second thought. What the heck made him decide to give you an opportunity that he'd never consider giving to his own sister?" Sly asked as she slouched back down again.
"Well I guess it's just because I've managed to make a bunch of successful plans in a career that's lasted almost ten years." Harry replied with a simple shrug at his fellow raccoon's question. Sly's curiosity then brought the conversation onto another topic.
"Also, if you don't ,mind me asking, what exactly is with the get up that you've got going on there?" Sly asked with genuine curiosity over Harry's attire of choice.
"What is something wrong with it? I just always thought a gentleman thief should try to actually dress like a gentleman is all." Harry answered her question as he looked down at his outfit. The outfit consisted of a black button up shirt with a bright yellow tie being held down to it by a small silver clip and a black jacket over it. Lower down he wore a pair of faded blue jeans and black sneakers along with a black pouch similar to Sly's strapped to his left leg. Probably one of the most questionable parts of his get up was that he was wearing a plain black fedora like the ones that were commonly assoicated with gangsters or prohibition in the 1920s. The last part of his outfit was a normal looking watch that from the looks of it was made out of solid gold. (Just think the way he was dressed in Thick As Thieves)
"Well I don't see the point of getting dolled up when you're just trying to steal something."
"Well it's because unlike a certain tomboy raccoon I know I prefer to look my best when I commit a theft." The male raccoon answered with a cocky sneer and a playful poke on his fellow thief's nose leaving Sly to make a rather annoyed huff. The little moment was interrupted when both of them heard the door open and turned around to see a familiar purple mouse stood in the door way.
"Harry, Bentley wanted me to tell you that he needs to see you in the van before we leave." Penelope relayed the message and Harry simply nodded and gave Sly a quick peck on the cheek before walking out the door. Once Penelope was sure Harry wasn't there anymore she turned to face Sly again with a look of expectation.
"Sly, is it alright if I ask you something?" Penelope asked in a tone like she wasn't sure if she should ask or not.
"Sure Penelope. You do know you don't need to ask though right?" Sly answered without hesitation. She could trust one of her only female friends to ask a sensible question couldn't she?
"OK. Well I guess what I want to say is this. When we first met you seemed to me like the kind of person that wasn't all that keen on having a relationship so what exactly is it about Harry that changes that?" Penelope asked bluntly and waited for Sly's response. The female raccoon took a few seconds to think of a suitable response but she eventually got there.
"Well I guess the reason I think differently of Harry is because he's not like some guys that I've had to put up with over the years like people that wouldn't stop following me around in high school. Sure when the two of us first met he made me want to rip his tail off but after a month or so when I had that run in with Carmelita and this happened," Sly paused for a second to point down at her cast that would have to remain there a bit longer. "Even though he seemed to find me from one of those weird strokes of luck he looked like he was genuinely concerned about helping me out so I can say he's a kind, selfless, caring person. Plus I guess it doesn't hurt to say from experience that he's actually a pretty good kisser and that he's not too bad on the eyes." Sly finished her sentence with an almost uncharacteristic giggle.
"Wow Sly, I never thought I'd be hearing this kind of sentence coming from you of all people." Penelope thought in surprise at the words coming from Sly's mouth.
"Well I guess nobody would. And Penelope?" Sly started again. "You may be my older brother's girlfriend but that doesn't mean you can't expect me to get some payback if I find out you've told anyone about this conversation."
"Don't worry Sly. I promise I won't tell anyone." Penelope reassured by doing an X shape over the spot where her heart was. After the two females were assured that their conversation would be kept confidential they heard the door open again and this time it was Bentley that made his way into the room.
"It's time for us to leave Penelope. If we go any later than we'll miss Felicia Davidson's train." Bentley explained as Penelope nodded and grabbed her RC chopper to prepare in the van.
Before leaving the room himself Bentley turned his wheelchair around to face Sly with the stern glare that she had come to expect from him over the years.
"Remember Sly, while all of us are gone we don't want you doing anything that could possibly make your injury worse when it's so close to being fully healed." Bentley ordered with narrowed eyes. (It didn't do much since his eyes couldn't exactly be seen through his thick glasses)
"Come on Bentley. Isn't there at least something that I can do to help out? I'll even be OK with it if it's just helping over binocucom-" Sly started but didn't get a chance to finish her sentence before Bentley cut her off.
"For the last time Sly, NO!" Bentley yelled the last part to reitterate his point causing Sly to wince at the volume of his voice before he continued. "And just to make sure you don't get upset about it anymore, if you keep whining about not being allowed to come even after we get back, you'll leave me with no choice but to tell Harry that your parents actually named you Sylvia Jane Cooper." Bentley threatened and got the desired reaction as Sly immediately stiffened at what he had said he would do.
"You wouldn't dare tell him that Bentley." Sly responded to the threat with narrowed eyes and Bentley just sat there with a sense of accomplishment knowing that the thought of Harry being told her real name would make her give up.
"Just try me Sly." Bentley replied with his own eyes narrowed underneath his glasses. Just from the look on Sly's face he knew that he had won this conversation easily. Before Sly could yell a few choice curse words to Bentley he quickly turned around and shut the door leaving Sly in the living room on her own.
(During the drive)
After the gang left the hide out Bentley used the time that they had until Felicia Davidson's departure from the train station to explain what exaclty was going to happen.
"Alright. As you guys already know our target for this heist is a large collection of treasures that Felicia Davidson is having transferred on one of the trains and our first priority is sneaking onto the train. Penelope and I will first sneak onto the train posing as an elderly couple and Murray, I've prepared a uniform for you which is similar to the ones worn by the people Felicia hires to move everything on and off the train." Bentley paused his briefing for a second to look over to Harry who was just casually polishing the barrel of his gun.
"As for you Harry, I want you to keep in mind that the only reason we let you think of your own infiltration plan was because I heard from some sources that you're talented when it comes to sneaking into the location of your desired item. And there's actually another reason that we want to see what you're capapble of doing in a heist." Bentley continued and Harry's curiosity was piqued by that sentence.
"Oh yeah? And what reason would that be exactly?" Harry asked back to Bentley and folded his arms for a few short seconds.
"Well as you might know during our time we've actually had a few people betray us over the years." Bentley responded grimly as he remembered those kind of moments such as when Neyla had given Sly and Murray up to the police and even framed Carmelita. "So I want you to keep in mind that if you do anything to betray us or anything on this heist we won't hesitate at all in taking back your position in the group." Bentley stated rather bluntly and Harry could see from the look on his face that if he did what Bentley had just said then the consequences were going to be pretty severe.
"Ah don't worry, you guys cun trust me or my name isn't Harold Joseph Key." The raccoon thief reassured the other three occupants that he could be trusted.
"Yeah, we'll just deal with that as it comes." Penelope finished the topic with a shrug before going back to her chopper.
"Alright. Now that that's settled I think it's time for you to get your disguise on first so we don't miss the train." Bentley suggested to Harry and they got to work on the raccoon's tactic for sneaking onto the train.
"By the way Betnley. Could I quickly ask you something?" Harry asked hesitantly wondering if this was really a good time for it.
"Sure. What is it you want to ask." Bentley's eyes left the monitor of his laptop to answer whatever question it was that was on the raccoon's mind.
"Well, when you found Felicia Davidson from your sources, did you happen to find anyone that she was related to perhaps?" Harry's reason for asking was because for a large amount of the day he couldn't help but feel that he had heard the name Davidson before. The thought hadn't stopped pestering him for hours and it was really starting to get on his nerves. Why did this question insist on bothering him so much?
"No, not that I'm aware of." Bentley replied with a simple head shake and Harry just simply sighed and decided that it would probably be best if he left it for another time.
(After the arrival at the station.)
When the gang arrived at the train station they all made sure their disguises were done properly and got started. Bentley and Penelope made their way inside one of the public cars as planned and Murray filled out his part by pushing along what looked like a regular statue on a cart towards one of the reserved cars where works of art were being placed that Felicia had bought.
The statue being pushed along at first glance looked pretty basic. It was a raccoon figure in the pose of the famous statue "The Think" with his chin placed on his fist in deep thought. What no one knew was what said statue was being used for. Murray was just by the doors and was about to leave the statue in the car until a voice called out right behind him.
"Hey! Is that one of the works Miss Davidson bought on her vacation?" The guard that Murray saw was a bulldog asked as he looked the statue over.
"Um Yeah yeah that's exactly what it is." Murray answered in a rush to be able to get the statue onto the train before it left. All hopes of the heist going by quickly were crushed when the guard looked the statue over again and shook his head.
"Well it doesn't look like something she would buy but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Just bring it to the back of the train." The guard ordered as Murray nodded and made his way over to the back car and quickly left the statue in there before heading to another part of the car to meet up with Bentley and Penelope.
After the rotund hippo left the car and the train began to depart the station something began happening to the statue. First it started to shake slightly and soon the shaking became more apparent as multiple cracks began to form in it. Within a few seconds it looked like the thing was just about ready to fall apart and pretty soon it did just that. As all the pieces of rock began to fall and smash onto the ground it left the recognisable form of who else but Harry stood in the pile of debris. Taking a few seconds to get his thoughts together the raccoon stood in the same spot and began to stretch in an attempt to get some feeling back into his slightly stiffened muscles glad to finally be free from the cramped space. Once Harry finished he quickly pressed a button on a small earpiece that Bentley had given him when they were in the van.
"Man. I'm telling you guys the artworld isn't all it's cracked up to be. Get it Bentley? Because I just cracked your statue?" Harry asked with an expecting tone and all he got as a reply from the other end was a groan.
"Great, and I thought that Sly was the only one that liked making bad jokes." The turtle's nasally voice sounded from the speaker and Harry could tell that he must have had to put up with that a lot from Sly.
"Jeez Sly was right. You can be no fun at times can't you?"
"Let's just focus! Alright. It looks like Murray wasn't able to get you into the 4th car with Felicia Davidson's belongings so you'll just have to improvise. You were pretty successful with choosing a method of getting onto the train so I guess it wouldn't hurt for you to find your own way of getting there. The rest of us will head to the front of the train by the roof to get the escape plan set up for when you're done."
"Sure. Catch you guys later." Harry agreed as he brought his hand off the earpiece and was about to make his way to the door.
The car he was in at the current moment was filled to the brim with old items such as old metal statues and large crates that seemed to have been there for quite a while without even being touched. The male raccoon's thoughts abruptly stopped when he heard the sound of an automatic door opening and looked in front of him to see a bull dog guard walk in with a flashlight to help him see in the dark windowless environment. Harry knew that he would need to take this guy out to proceed when he noticed him insert a key into a keyhole that seemed to deactivate the sensor that opened it.
Taking a moment to figure out how he would be able to get the keys from the guy without either of them getting hurt Harry had a sudden idea and pulled up his left sleeve to reveal the gold watch that he had been wearing on his wrist. With a confident grin the self procalaimed criminal mastermind aimed the watch at the key dangling from a key ring on the guards pants and began to turn one of the dials.
"Alright just twist a few diles here, press a few buttons there and, done."
The watch began to have a strange effect as the keys suddenly started to rise like they were being pulled by a strange force. Pretty soon the flimsy keyring wasn't able to withstand the pulling force anymore and it soon broke which allowed the key to come flying to the gentleman thief's watch.
"Oh good ol' magnetic watch, you never dissapoint do you?"
When most people asked how exactly he managed to get a watch that apparently had the power of magnetism he would give one simple answer. "I honestly don't recall that well. If I remember correctly I got it from some casino owner when I was sixteen." (It'll make sense if you read Harry Key: The early days)
Since the guard had locked the door behind him it was safe to say that he'd have no way of warning his colleagues about the thief's presence so said thief decided to use this to his advantage. Sneaking up behind the bull dog with little to no difficulty he then gave him a cocky tap on the shoulder to get his attention and the first thing the guard saw when he turned around was the smug grin of a thief he hadn't been expecting to show up.
"An intruder!" The guard yelled as he ran back the door with no idea that the keys had just been taken from him. The bulldog didn't realise this important little fact until he remembered the sensor and started checking all of his pockets for them.
"Looking for something big guy?" Harry asked as he dangled the keys in his right hand. Before the guard could resort to another plan of action Harry ran up behind him and applied pressure onto his neck with two fingers. Just like that the guard was then out like a light leaving Harry to open the door with no problem.
Before taking his leave the Key remembered a piece of advice his father Lupin Key was always giving him in his teenage years.
"In the life of a thief disguises are a good method to get through places easily." The male raccoon repeated the sentence in his mind and then looked back at the guard he'd just knocked out with a grin forming on his face. The thief dragged the unconcious guard into a dark corner of the car where he wouldn't be found before waking up and started the task of taking his uniform from him.
By the time he was done the male raccoon was done he was dressed in a full uniform with the cap pulled over his face in an attempt to keep it hidden. Now that he had a proper disguise on he made his way through the door and into the 13th car. Harry had a rather easy time sneaking through into the 11th car when when he came up to two guards standing on either side of a door that looked to be made of reinforced metal.
"Hey guys. Mind opening the door for me?" The raccoon requested with a gruff voice.
"Sorry pal, we've been ordered to not let anybody through here until we arrive at the next train station so you'll just have to stay in this car." The guard responded and Harry's ears drooped slightly before he walked away. Not wanting to give up just because of one little set back he quickly turned around the corner where the guards were unable to see him and pulled one of the windows all the way open. After taking a second to make sure there was nobody watching he quickly leaned out, grabbed hold of the side of the roof and pulled himself up. Before heading forward Harry closed the window to avoid suspicion and then began crawling forward along the train's roof.
With the wind blasting in his direction so hard Harry resorted to keeping his face down which brought his attention to a sky light on the roof of the 6th car. Letting his curiosity get the best of him the criminal looked down and saw two figures sat in a first class room speaking to eachother. Harry was able to recognise both of them instantly. One of them was a teenage female rabbit that Harry instantly recognised as Felicia Davidson from the photos Bentley had given him. The girl was wearing a purple cardigan and a black mini skirt with white high heeled boots that reached up to her knees and her light brown hair was done up in a braid. The person she was talking to was a German shephard that looked to be about 35 or so with a noticably unkept brown moustache. As for his clothing he was wearing what looked common for a main character in a 1930s detective movie. The outfit consisted of clothes that were completely grey such as drak grey shoes, trousers, a white button up shirt, a grey tie, a grey wide brimmed hat and a long grey trenchcoat that reached all the way down to his knees. One of the most questionable aspects about this guy however was that he could clearly be seen twirling a pair of handcuffs on his finger in an agitated manner.
"Well well well, it looks like Carter actually managed to make it after all." Harry stated with a grin as he pressed his ear against the glass so he could hear waht the two of them were saying to one another.
"So, Mr Carter, you're only coming on this train ride because you want to catch the thief that's planning to rob me?" Felicia Davidson questioned the dog, who it was fair to say must be called Carter, stopped twirling the handcuffs and placed them in his pocket.
"That's right, Miss Davidson." Carter answered with I've been chasing that stupid thief Harry Key for about eight years now and the day that I give up on putting him behind bars is the day he finally decides to stop stealing. Rest assured, as long as I'm here that thief isn't going to get a hold of any of your treasures and he'll be leaving this train in cuffs." The man continued while on the roof Harry just sighed and shook his head.
"Carter, you've said that every single time that you've tried to catch me and from the looks of it, it hasn't worked out too well for you." Harry told the German Shephard without getting any answer as he decided to leave them to it. Before he left however he decided to have one last quick listen to see if he could get any important information.
"Also, Inspector Carter, could you possibly tell me what exactly your plan for catching Harry Key is?" Felicia questioned but all she got in return was Carter shaking his head as he stood up to leave.
"Sorry, Miss Davidson. I'm afraid that bit of information is to remain confidential. Now if you'll excuse me I need to make sure your treasures are still safe. There's no talling when exactly Key will go after them. Also it would probably be best for you to head back to your room in the third car." Carter stated as he opened the door and walked off while Harry went back to crawling along the roof of the train until he found a window to swing in through.
The minute Harry made it through the window and closed it he was scared out of his wits by yelling coming from his earpiece.
"Alright, spill! Who's that Carter guy that you were just talking about?" Bentley urged and Harry decided to give him what he wanted as he sat down on one of the nearby chairs and began explaining. From what Harry stated he and Zenny Carter had quite a history together. According to Harry Carter had spent large portions of his police career chasing after him ever since he was just 15 years old and Harry himself was actually the one who usually made sure the inspector showed up because, according to said thief at least, he liked to be presented with a challenge when he stole and no one had ever managed to come closer to putting him behind bars than Carter had.
"Well there's still something bothering me. If he works in America, then how exactly did he know that you were planning on stealing Felicai Davidson's belongings from a train in Paris?" Penelope suddenly brought herself into the conversation with a rather supsicious edge to her voice knowing already that he must have had something to do with it.
"Weeeeell, actually I think I might know how he got wind of it." Harry stated while rubbing the back of his head and chuckling slightly which got the attention of the rest of the gang.
"And how exactly is that?" Bentley asked feeling that the answer was going to leave him rather annoyed.
"Well it must be because of a letter that was sent to Felicia a few days ago. Come to think of it I've actually got a copy of it here with me." Harry answered as he pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket and began to read from it. "Dear Miss Davidson. I know that you and I have never met face to face before but being the self proclaimed gentleman that I am I felt that it would be appropriate to give you a warning. On your train ride the treasures that you're haveing transported with you are going to be stolen by a thief. AKA, me! Now you might stand a chance at stopping me if you inform one Inspector Zenny Carter of my challenge seeing how he is the only one I've ever seen as a worthy opponent. I apologise in advance for any inconvinience that this may cause you..."
"Wha...? Oh you didn't." Bentley listened to Harry read out the letter and got a bad feeling that he knew who the writer of the letter was.
"...Signed Harry Key." Harry confirmed Bentley's suspicions and after that the brainy turtle could be heard face palming from his end.
"So, let me get this straight." Penelope told Harry with a hint of onvious annoyance. "You actually warned this girl that we were planning to steal from her?"
"Well not exactly. As far as all these people are concerned you guys have got nothing to do with this. They just think that this is one of my solo thefts as always." Harry contradicted Penelope and cut off contact with the gang before they could end up screaming their lungs out at him. Finally getting back up again Harry continued his walk to the 4th car while wondering what exactly Carter could have in store for him this time.
"Meh, it probably won't be any more effective than the time he tried to drop a massive cage over me."
Harry reached the 4th car just a minute later and found to his surprise that the room the treasures were being kept in didn't seem like the kind of place that a spoiled brat would want her posessions being kept. After contemplating for a second or so Harry simply shrugged it off and discarded the uniform for the time being and looked around the crate that contained what he was looking for.
It didn't take long as he finally found a large crate marked "Property of Miss Felicia Davidson." and let out a snide grin and chuckle.
"Heh Heh. Jackpot." Harry rubbed his hands together and began to open the crate. To the lawbreaker's shock however rather than seeing all the treasures that he had been expecting a hand popped out and immediately slapped a pair of handcuffs around his left wrist.
"What the!?" Harry yelled in disbelief as a familar figure stood up and out of the crate.
"So this was your plan, Carter?" Harry questioned as the familiar German shephard grinned down at him while five more officers stood up out of cardboard boxes on the left and right.
"That's right, Key. Are you surprised? HAHAHAHAH! I bet you weren't expecting the treasures to have been moved to a diffrent location were you?" Carter stood straight with an almost impossibly wide grin. "I've waited so long for this moment and now it's finally here. You've caused nothing but trouble for me since you were just a teenager and now you'll pay for it by spending your life in a prison cell." Carter laughed at his accomplishment while Harry tried to find a way out of his current situation. After looking around for anything useful the emerald green eyes happened upon a fire extinguisher behind Carter and a plan quickly made it's way through Harry's thoughts.
"Well, Carter, I guess you're right. There's clearly no way that I can get out of this one so I guess my luck's finally run out." Harry pretended to reluctantly congratulate the Inspector and flattened his ears against his skull. "Come to think of it, this is one of the biggest accomplishments of your career so I guess I owe you something. Maybe a magic trick... I've got it! I'll give you a complimentary vanishing act!" Harry yelled with a grin as he whipped his revolver out from the shoulder holster under his jacket and pulled the trigger at the extinguisher which resulted in the foam spraying from it and covering up everyone's sight. Using this distraction to his advantage Harry quickly raised his gun again and shot through the chain that was connecting both ends of the cuffs and made a dash towards a crate that he opened and closed to hide himself.
"Damn! Alright men, he couldn't have gotten far. That raccoon wouldn't be stupid enough to still try and go after the treasures when he knows we've moved them to a secret location so I want all of you to head back and search the entire train." Carter ordered as he pointed back to the door that Harry had entered through and all the guards did as they were told. Allowing himself to take a peek outside the crate he was hiding in Harry saw Carter pacing while grumbling to himself and something grabbed his attention. What Carter hadn't noticed was that during his pacing a silver key had dropped out of his pocket and onto the floor. Just a few seconds ago Harry had actually seen Carter use that same key to lock the door that the guards had left through so it would be fair to assume that the key he used would also be able to lock the door leading to the 3rd car. With this new course of action Harry quietly made his way out of the crate and waited until Carter's back was turned. Soon the German shephard sat on one of the nearby chairs and pulled a cigarette from his jacket to calm himself down and when he was sure the Inspector was distracted Harry quickly grabbed the key and made a mad dash towards the other car.
When Carter heard the sound of someone running to the other door he shot up and began running as well.
"Damnit, Key! I'm not letting you get away this time!" Carter screeched at the top of his lungs while Harry flung the door open and slammed it shut again. Not wasting any time the gentleman raccoon placed the key back inside the keyhole and turned it to lock the door once more while breathing a welcome sigh of relief, a small chuckle couldn't help but leave his mouth also as he watched the cop check all of his pockets for the key to the door.
"Looking for something, Carter?" Harry asked as he swung the key around on his finger and then dropped it into his pocket.
"Damn you, Key! I'll make sure you pay for this even it's the last thing I ever do!" Harry heard the livid Inspector yell at him while he banged his fists on the glass in an attempt to break it.
As soon as he entered the third car Harry heard the familiar beeping from the ear piece and answered.
"Yeah, Penelope?" Harry answered as he heard a giggle come from her end of the communication.
"Let me guess. The treasures weren't where you thought they would be." Penleope guessed correctly as Harry deflatedand confirmed her supsicions.
"Well it looks like deciding to be reckless with warning your victim wasn't such a good idea was it?" Bentley brought himself into the conversation as he then sighed to himself. "Alright, we've made it to the front of the train and I've planted a bomb to destrou the coupling. Now you just need to figure out where the treasures are being kept. If you need me to hack anything for you just remember that computer card that I gave you in the van." Bentley finished and broke contact while Harry tried to decide on what he would do next. Remembering that both Felicia and Carter had rooms in the third car of the train it was as if a light bulb turned on in his brain and he made his way to the room that had Carter's name on the door. After picking the lock and making his way inside Harry found a suitcase and just what he had been expecting. One of the main bits of clothing he had in it were the same type of hat and trench coat that he was wearing aminute ago.
As part of his plan Harry draped the tranchcoat over himself while using it to cover up his striped tail and pulled the hat over his face to keep it hidden. When he was sure that he was unrecognisable the third generation thief made his way over to the room of Felicia Davidson and began knocking on the door. In response Felicia opened the door to see what he wanted.
"What is it Inspector?" The rabbit demanded to know what reason he could have for coming her rather than protecting her belongings.
"Sorry to distub you Miss Davidson." Harry replied and amazingly he was actually managing to speak with the gruff voice that Carter had been using. "It's just that we had a run in with Key and I want to make sure your treasures were safe. So of it's not too much trouble I'd appreciate it if you could remind me where exactly we had the treasures moved to." Harry requested and Felcia for her part looked half confused that he could forget and half amused about it.
"Alright." Felicia complied as she reached into her pocket and pulled out a key card that she explained was the one needed to unlock the the second car where the treasures were really being kept.
"Thanks a lot." Harry thanked but unfortunately what he didn't realise during that small moment was that he'd allowed his Carter voice to slip into his own voice.
"Is something wrong Inspector? You don't quite sound like yourself." Felicia prodded with obviously mock concern showing that she just wanted to seem nice. In a quick panic Harry gave himself slap acoss the face and immediately went back into his Carter voice and assured her that nothing was wrong.
"Good. Because if you fail to protect my treasures then you should know that my dad isn't going to take it too well." The teenage rabbit reminded with a hint of venom in her words that Harry found himself actually cringing at.
"A...and why exactly would that be?" Harry asked just out of wild curiosity.
"Well if you've ever paid attention to the news then you'd know that people who haven't been able to live up to Harold Davidosn's expectations have always had to suffer the consequences." The teenager growled and slammed the door in his face. What she hadn't noticed before shutting the door however was the stunned look on Harry's face. Harold Davidson. So that was where he'd heard the teen's last name before.
"I never figured out where it is now but I heard McSweeney say when I went to see him in jail that it was sold to a man called Harold Davidson." Sly's sentence went through his mind again and he suddenly had another important realisation from the bit of info that he had just aquired. Without wasting a second the raccon discarded the cap and trencoat disguise and made his way to the second car. When he inserted the key card and opened the door he found just what it was that he'd been looking for. In the middle of the car was a pile of valuable objects ranging from gold necklaces to silver medallions which was completely surrounded by what was most likely bullet proof glass. With this little fact in mind Harry activated the earpiece once again to contact Bentley.
"Bentley. I've found the treasures but it looks like I wont be able to get through the glass without causing a ruckus. Is there anything that you'll be able to do about it from a distance?" Harry asked as he twirled his gun around on his trigger finger to keep himself occupied.
"Well there should be. Is there a key card slot of some kind?" Bentley asked and continued to inform him on what to do when the raccoon confirmed that the case had a key card slot.
"Alright. Take the key card that I gave you back at the safe house and insert it into the slot." Bentley instucted while Harry complied with a simple nod. Taking out a keycard that with one of Bentley's logos on it, Harry did as he was told and inserted the card into the slot. As the card slid in a series of beeps could be heard and within the next few seconds the top of the case gradually began to slide off.
"Wow. I guess you weren't kidding when you said that those cards of yours can work in any slot were you?" Harry admired as he picked up a large sack that was being kept in the corner of the car.
"I should hope not. After all that thing's design took a week of sleepless nights to accomplish. Now Murray's going to destroy the wall leading to the front of the train and I've planted a bomb on the coppler so you'll need to make a jump to get on." Bentley broke contact again to allow Harry time to fill up the sack. Being done in just a few seconds Harry then tied the top of the back to make sure that nothing would fall out and then slung the back over his shoulder.
"This was actually a lot easier than usual. I guess after all these years Carter's finally started to lose his-" Harry was cut short by the sound of the door being smashed open. "I stand corrected."
"Gotcha! And you're not escaping this time!" Carter's gruff voice bellowed through the small car and Harry turned around with the smug grin that he was known for.
"Well hi Carter. So you managed to get out of the car after all." Harry teased as the german shephard clutched a pair of handcuffs so hard his knuckles appeared to be turning white.
"You're in no position to joke Key! You're cornered so I advise you to give up peacefully." Carter began walking over to cuff him.
"Sorry Carter. I'm afraid the term give up isn't in my dictionary." The minute Harry said this a crashing sound was heard and debris went flying from the wall forcing Carter to duck for cover. When Harry looked at the hole left in the wall he wasn't at all surprised to see that Murray was stood there striking a pose.
"Thanks for that Murray." Harry nodded to the rotund hippo as a way of showing his gratitiude.
"Don't mention it buddy. Sly wouldn't be happy if you got caught when "The Muray" was there to smash anything in his way." Murray replied as he jumped back onto the front of the train where Penelope and Bentley were with the unconcious train driver who had a sleep dart in his neck. After the guard was thrown onto the second car rather than being taken with them Harry threw the sack to Murray and turned back around to see Carter getting up with a look that showed how angry he was.
"Well Carter, as usual this has been fun but I've gotta run." Harry bidded farewell and jumped onto the front of the train just as Bentley detonated his bomb. When that happened the rest of the train began to get left behind. Carter ran over to the hole Murray's fist had left and began one of the usual rants he gave to Harry as he got away.
"Don't think this is over Key! I'm going to see you in a prison cell if it's the last thing I ever-" Carter started his rant but stopped him self in shock when he saw the other people that were on the train with Harry. "The Cooper gang!?" The look on Carter's face was priceless when he saw that Harry wasn't doing this solo.
"Are you surprised Carter?" Harry asked the Inspector who looked like he was about to pass out.
"What on Earth are you doing with the Cooper gang!? You're bad enough on your own you menace!" Carter belloowed at the top of his lungs.
"Well it was really just a spur of the moment thing to be perfectly honest. And you seriously don't think that I can go wit ha group? I have to tell you Carter, that hurts." Harry answered back with an obviously fake hurt look.
Not wanting to give up yet Carter pulled a semi automatic pistol from his pocket and began to pull the trigger. This attempt didn't do much however becasue at that very moment while the rest of the gang were going inside to the driver's compartment Harry yanked his own gun out of his shoulder holster and fired. With his precision Harry managed to fire a bullet into the pistol's barrel leaving Carter just a second to drop it before it exploded. Finally the distance was too great for anyhting to be done and to eachother the trains were just small specks in the distance. Harry's sensitive hearing also allowed him to hear what was clearly Felicia's voice yelling to no paticular person.
"Why me!? First my mum gets put in the hospital when some raccoon girl punches her on the face and now this happens!" (You've got Anon to thank for that paticular joke.
(After the ride back to the hide out.)
By 3AM the van parked outside the hideout and every one began to pile out. Harry was honestly thankful that the ride was finally over becasue Bentley had spent almost the entire ride trying in vain to convince him that sending a letter to warn his victims in advance wasn't a very smart thing to do.
"So this Zenny Carter guy is like your version of Inspector Fox?" Murray tried to confirm while he listened to Harry's explanation.
"Yep that's pretty much it. He's been trying to catch me since I first started out and he actually has succeeded on a few occasions. I've always managed tp find a way around it of course." Harry confirmed to Murray as he opened the door and let himself in. While everyone else automatically went back to their rooms for the rest of the night Harry went into the living room and found a sight that he hadn't been expecting to find. Lying on the couch curled into a ball shape was his fellow raccoon with a blacket draped over herself. Since the TV was still on Harry came to the logical conclusion that Sly had been waiting for them to come back and ended up dozing off.
"Well I can't just leave her here." Harry decided as he gently picked Sly up bridal style and brought her to her bedroom and placed her down on the matress. After taking a moment to admire her sleeping form Harry reached into his pocket and pulled out the necklace that he'd found alongside Felicia's belongings. It was just as it seemed in the photo. It was solid gold with the symbol of the Cooper clan and inside it contained a photo of Connor and Kathryn Cooper stood in front of the statue of Liberty.
Placing the necklace back in his pocket Harry chuckled and joined his grilfriend in dreamland while looking forward to the smile that was sure to grace her features in the morning.
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow I have really been neglecting this one haven't I? Now first and foremost I am so sorry for the long wait, I don't know why but I just wasn't feeling motivated for some reason. Now that I've got that out of the way I'd like to remind you guys that my friend has written the two Harry Key stories I mentioned and on that topic I'm actually planning to do solo Harry stories on Fictionpress pretty soon so if I could get your thoughts on that in your review I'd reay appreciate it. And also Zenny Carter is my third OC so if any of you guessed that it would be a cop that wants to catch Harry then give yourself a pat on the back. There's not really much character to him right now but I'll be sure to flesh him out more next time I write him into something. Until next time guys and gals, Storyus Raccoonus out.
