Livewire

Chapter One: Lightning Bug

The sky was a dark grey, showing that it was not only twilight but a thunderstorm was approaching. The air was charged with static electricity. On the lot of Number 4, Privet Drive, a small seven-year-old girl was playing in the garden.

"Allie!" her aunt called from the house. "Allie, get in here before you're struck by lightning."

"Coming, Aunt Petunia." the black-haired child responded. Her aunt was the only person who seemed to care for her at all. Morosely, the little girl gathered her toys into a bucket and began to trudge towards the back door. As she did so, the sky began to rain buckets. Just as she was about to make it to the safety of the back porch, a bolt of lightning was unleashed from the sky, streaking towards her. Petunia Dursley watched in horror as her niece was struck by the lightning, the toy bucket falling from her limp fingers. There was no way she could survive something that strong. The outline of the girl could be seen through the sizzling electricity.

Alexandria was struck dumb as the lightning struck. All she could feel was pain, a sizzling, burning sort. She wanted to live, honest she did. But she couldn't could she? She thought of her aunt who loved her and would miss her. She was probably watching now, horrified. But something awoke in little Alexandria Potter, something completely unrelated to Magic. SHE felt the energy which was flowing into her and let it fill her entire body, every cell, every molecule. She absorbed it, letting it energise her like nothing had ever energised her before.

Meanwhile, her aunt watched on in stunned awe. HER niece stayed standing under the onslot and the electricity seemed to be absorbed by her. Finally, the light died down and Allie was revealed. She was clad in nothing but her birthday suit, her bucket of toys a charred lump on the ground beside her. She simply oozed with electricity, sparks crackling off of her. Her unruly hair was messier than ever, the tips emitting little sparks as well.

"ALLIE!" she cried, rushing towards her niece. Allie was horrified. She was a litteral livewire now, couldn't her aunt see that? She didn't want to hurt her aunt so focused hard on containing as much of the electrical energy as she could. As she rushed towards Allie, her arms outstretched, Petunia suddenly felt a strange wobbliness out of nowhere. As she had reoriented herself, Petunia was shocked to see her own arms stretched out longer than they had ever been, wrapping around her niece from almost three feet away and bringing her closer. She was equally shocked to see an ark of electricity go up or down her niece's arms or torso every couple of seconds. But Petunia couldn't feel it. It was as though she was wairing a pair of rubber gloves, but she wasn't.

"Thank God you're all right." she said softly, regaining her composure for the sake of the scared child in her embrace. "Come along, let's get in the house before we both catch cold out here." Both of them were sopping wet with their hair standing on end. But neither of them cared because they were still alive.

Meanwhile, thousands of miles away, a singularly unique computer honed in on the signal of the newly awakened mutants. Charles Xavier wheeled over to the console and slipped on Cerebro's helmet. The impressive thing about this computer was that it was able to amplify his telepathic abilities and use them to find new mutants for the school. After a few minutes, data about the mutants Cerebro had detected appeared on the screen for others to see. To the left was a list of personal data which some of the other X-men in the vecinity such as Storm, Phoenix, and Cyclopse viewed with interest. To the right, the profile pictures appeared, one after the other. The new mutants were shown, the oldest first.

Everyone in the room was surprised at the appearance of the first mutant. She was far older than most were when they got their powers, after all. True, she wasn't especially powerful, but that's not what they cared about. The gently spinning profile picture showed the head and shoulders image of a youngish woman with the slight beginnings of stress lines around her eyes and mouth. Her face was longish and thin, though not to such a degree she could be called ugly. However, it was clear that she wasn't a classic beauty either. Her eyes were slightly large for her face but a soothing shade of bluish green. Her hair, tied up into a tight ponytail in this picture, was honey blonde with faint dark red streaks running through it. Onçe he was sure the others had their fill of Petunia's profile, Professor X allowed the computer to move on to the second mutant.

Eyes all around widened in shock that such a young child had their powers awaken and that said child was already a powerful mutant. Barely anyone noticed at first that the two were related. On the right side of the screen, a profile picture of the girl could be seen. In the portrait, the girl spun slowly so all could get a good look at her. Some of the women, such as Jean, awed at the sight. The child had unruly raven curls, an elfin face, and thick-lashed, large, electric emerald eyes. But the most interesting feature of the child was the lightning scar on her forehead

Story Notes

I have no idea which X-Men universe this would take place in. I just liked the idea of a female, mutant Harry who actually is loved by Petunia who made the mistake of marrying the tub of lard Vernon, feeling stuck with him. I decided to give Petunia mutant abilities as well because, hey, why not? She's kind of a foil to Allie's own powers, the two fit well together as aunt and niece, mutants, standouts in a world which both are wary of… Hope you enjoyed!
