"What a beautiful day to not be in class. Who couldn't appreciate a nice, warm sun with just a hint of breeze." Moriah commented, closing her eyes and laying back in the grass, allowing the sun's ray's warm up her skin. She loved days like this, granted, she was skipping class which was something she didn't really like to do, but anything was better than sitting in a class where the teacher could care less about the students. She would exploit moments like this to escape the confine's of the academy to the nearest park with Leigha and Janice, since this was also considered their free time.
A light popping sound caught her attention. Moriah growled as she opened her eyes and turned her head slightly. Leigha was sitting on a swing with rusty chains, casually chewing and blowing bubbles with the pink gum.
"Seriously, Leigha? Do you have to bring gum every time we skip class?" Moriah sat back up and crossed her legs.
"Only when it's during my business class. So ridiculous." Leigha rolled her eyes and stood up. She walked over and sat between Moriah and Janice, and pulled out her business book. The book was highly out of date, some of the pages were missing, high lighted or drawn on. It was an expensive book not worth the money, and the teacher refuses to ask for more updated books. "Dad pays for me to learn in that class when I can teach that teacher a thing or two."
"I thought you have already?" Janice asked, sipping away at her water.
Moriah and Leigha glanced over at her, admiring their friend. Janice wore a pair of torn, dark blue denim shorts with white leggings, a hot pink tank top that was a bit tight on her, and she wore so many accessories and make up that she showed hardly any bare skin. Moriah envied her, wishing she could pull together an outfit like that and still look beautiful. With her Alaskan white husky hair loose around her shoulders, silver grey eyes and great legs, it was no wonder why all the guys drooled over her.
Moriah had relatively the same color hair, but her choice of attire was much darker than Janice's. Moriah was labeled as a 'goth' in the school. Today however, she tried to wear something with a bit more color. Instead of black tights with matching skirt, she wore dark blue skinny jeans. However, she still wore a black tank top with a dark brown vest. The one variable to her outfit that never changed was her necklace her father gave to her on their recent trip to Egypt. It was a reminder of where their family came from, and their previous destiny. Now, all that mattered in the Ishtar family, was raising Moriah and her brothers to be well educated citizens working towards their own goals.
Leigha, on the other hand, admired how talented Janice was with dancing and music. She had heard many students comment how focused she was in her moves, how she can hold a strong singing voice. If she didn't dress in such an odd attire, Janice would be just as popular as Leigha.
"Of course I have!" Leigha exclaimed, dropping the book carelessly on the ground. She shot up onto her feet, brushing the grass off her black slacks, and straightened her white blouse. Although she enjoyed skipping her dreaded business class, she would rather sit in the uncomfortable desk than on the dirty ground. "And what did she do? She put me in detention. DETENTION! I must be the only Kaiba to ever be in detention! So pathetic!"
"At least you've proved you're smarter than her." Janice mentioned, trying to be optimistic. "Think about what that can do for a college application. True, they may not exactly condone it, but it proves a point."
Leigha smirked and nodded, feeling slightly proud of herself at that possibility. "There are a few I'm looking in to, but far away places. I'm not talking about over seas or a flight and a boat ride away. I mean somewhere dad and mom won't be an hours drive away, where I can be free to study whatever I want without dad breathing down my neck."
"I feel for you, Leigha. I want the same thing." Moriah crossed her ankles and tilted her head back, allowing the sun to burn away her anger. "Well, ok, dad and maybe aunt Ishizu can visit me. But my mom and my brothers are not allowed within the city limits from me. What about you Jan?"
"I really can't say yet. I've been a little preoccupied with my sisters since my parents split." Moriah looked over at her friend with deep concern. Her parents had split about a year ago, and the pain was still fresh in Janice's heart.
"And that's why I'm thrilled to be the only sibling." Leigha whispered, knowing better to not mention it to her out loud.
"I wish I had sisters. It be so much easier to talk to another girl my mom hates."
"Shouldn't we be in class?" Janice asked, switching the topic before she became depressed. "Or at least getting back to school? Moriah, I'm not sure why you're mom treats you the way she does, but I know for certain your father cares about your future."
Moriah grinned and shook her head. "The school doesn't have his number, they have mom's. So, of course, mom's not going to say anything to dad unless it has to deal with the boys."
"They have my dad's number and he won't answer. Neither does mom and, to be technically right, she doesn't have a job. Not that it matters." Leigha mentioned, taking a drink from her water bottle.
"Look at us; we're talking like we have neglective parents."
"Are we wrong?" Leigha asked Moriah in a heated tone, her blue eyes watching her firmly. "Your mom could care less if you started calling her Rikki. My mom at least tries, I'll give her that, but she can't count shopping for prom dresses, and doing our hair every few months as quality time." Her eyes shifted over to Janice. "You, on the other hand, Jan, have not said much about your parents since they split. What kind of relationship do you have with your mother?"
Janice looked down, brought her knees up to her chest and wrapped her thin arms around them. A look of heavy dread and sadness shown in her silver eyes. "I am ashamed to say that even my mother has become somewhat estranged this past year. I, honestly, think she cares more about my sisters than she cares about me."
"See my point?" Leigha's attention shifted back to Moriah, her firmness remained like she was making a strong point against a business partner. The famous 'Kaiba stare' as it was called in the academy. "Is that why neither of you have bothered to attend your therapy sessions?"
"Yes." Janice answered, Moriah matched Leigha's stare.
"SETO!"
Seto Kaiba leaped out of his seat, startled to hear his wife's loud voice from the down stairs entry way. Ami was always the excesively loud voice, he was thrilled Leigha didn't inherit that trait. Seto, walking a slightly fast pace, headed out of his office and down the stairs. He figured Ami found something she deemed perfect for Leigha's prom dress, which he pitied his young daughter. She already had enough accessories and designs on her dress that would make Leigha feel overwhelmed.
Seto turned to the stairs and walked down a few steps before seeing the opened front door. Two police men stood in front of the door, one with a note pad, and the other acting like a guard at the door. Ami stood next to the officer with the note pad, tears pouring down her face, smearing her make up and she was breathing into a paper bag. Seto ceased, studying everyone. The cops were firm and yet caring, while Ami was absolutely distraught and filled with apprehension.
"What is the meaning of this?" Seto asked, continuing down the stairs til he was standing next to Ami. Before he came to a final stop, Ami dropped the bag and grasped his sleeves tightly. Her dark eyes showed fear, black mascara streamed like black water drops around her cheeks.
"It's Leigha, someone has taken her."
Seto's heart froze, Ami's words echoed in his head. In a way, this was nostalgic when Pegasus took Mokuba what seemed like a life time in the past. He prayed that it was Pegasus who took her, at least he would know where to go and what he needed to do to get her back. But he had also been receiving threats and suspicious emails from unknown sources that even his elite team of hackers could not find. Only one was from Pegasus regarding Leigha and the surprise package he gave to her a few years previously. Seto had to change, and even delete, some of Leigha's contacts so Pegasus would leave her alone.
He wouldn't put it past Pegasus to go so far as to abducting her like he did with Mokuba. And he wouldn't put it past Leigha to act in a typical, teenage rebel and disappear to one of her favorite spots without telling anyone.
"I want search teams to check the book store, double check the academy, every where she could be. Bring the driver in to my office at once-"
"Mr. Kaiba, we've found this." Ami held out a light blue cloth that was all too familiar to Kaiba, and his heart froze again. "It's Mokuba's bandanna."
