Chapter 20: Brotherly love
Everybody just stared at her, like she had done something wrong. She had expected that from her parents, but they had been nothing but supportive since she had told them the news. The only people who were happy about her were her brother Hugo, her sister Rose, her cousins, her aunt Ginny and her uncle Harry, and her parents, of course. The rest just looked at her in shock, even whispering that she was way too young, or asking how they were going to manage. Her grandparents were even scolding her parents for letting that happen. Belle couldn't take it anymore. She got up and ran upstairs to her father's room and locked herself in it. She laid on the bed and started crying. There was a knock on the door. "Belle, it's me. Open up." she heard Hugo say.
"Go away, Hugh." he heard her say.
"Come on! I just want you to teach me that spell you did on your purse. Maybe we can do it to my backpack so I can take more books to school." he said. Silence. "come on, Belle! You promised!" he said. He knew very well that Belle never broke a promise she made. He heard a creek and then the door was opened. He walked in and sat on the bed, next to her. she sat up and explained to him the spell and the motions.
"It's pretty bad downstairs. I've never seen mom and dad arguing with grandma before. Mom is fighting quite a battle!" he said, smiling a little. Belle just looked at him, then down. "I don't think you're ruining your life, and I don't think you're too young either. You're definitely older than mom was when she had you." he added.
"Well, that's true." she said.
"They were barely teenagers when they had you, but they did it. And look at you! You turned up quite well in spite of having teenage parents. You're an amazing woman, Belle. That baby is quite lucky!" he said. Belle looked at him., surprised. "You're going to be an incredible mom, there's no question on that. And if anyone objects, I'll do aunt Ginny's famous Bat-Boogey hex on them. Nobody messes with my sister and my future niece or nephew." he said, proudly. Belle laughed a bit.
"You really think I'm going to be a good mom?" she asked.
"Of course! You're an amazing big sister already. You've always cared for us, and helped us, and played with us, and supported us in whatever we did, and you always taught us cool charms. You even made breakfast on weekends when mom and dad slept in. Of course you're going to be a terrific mom, Belle! Besides, you have mom as a model. Who better to teach you than her?" he said. Belle smiled and wipped her tears away. then, she hugged her brother.
"Thanks, Hugh! You're an amazing brother!" she said. Hugo hugged her back as there was a knock on the door. They looked up and it opened a little. Adam's head popped in. Hugo pulled away and gave Adam a sign to walk in. "I'll leave you three alone." he said, getting up. Then, he walked out of the room and went upstairs where everyone was still fighting.
"HEY!" he shouted. Everyone got quiet and looked at him. He gulped. "My big sister is up there feeling miserable because her family wouldn't share the joy of her good news. You should be ashamed of yourselves because she's been nothing but supportive to all of you. You should know that Belle is the most caring, responsible and amazing human being in this world. She learnt all of that from mom and dad, so there's no doubt that she'll be an incredible mother, even though she's younger than you expected her to be when she had her first child. Now, she's going to come downstairs in some minutes. If you can't congratulate her and be happy for her, then be quiet. Because she doesn't deserve to be treated like you just did, alright?" he said. Everyone looked at him, shocked. Hermione and Ron went to him and hugged him.
"That is the most incredible speech I've heard. And you were incredibly brave by standing up for your sister like you did." she said
"We're really proud of you, son." Ron said. Hugo just smiled.
Belle and Adam came downstairs a while later. Everyone just showered them in compliments and congratulations and told them how sorry they were for their reaction. Hugo smiled proudly. Nobody messed with his sister and her baby.
