Chapter 20
I saw the list in his lap as I went back in, I took a seat on one of the single chairs.
" Are you going to show me that list then?"
"No."
" I thought you wanted help?"
" No need now."
" Oh for God's sake, snap out of Doctor mode and give me the list."
I could see him gulp,damn, I had no patience.
" Right, not much really considering there's two people."
"Yeah."
" I'll move some stuff in here yeah, and you can do the other room."
" Just don't break anything " he said sighing.
" What with these hands." I said flashing them and winking.
There wasn't much in the living room to sort, Joseph had gone to do the other rooms, so I just sat on the floor beside the wooden cabinet. I decided to look in there, see if I couldn't change anything. The first thing I saw opening the draw was a photo in its frame.
The frame was silver all the way around, it was of me and Joseph in the shared garden, when we used to live together. It was winter, Christmas I think, I was wearing one of Josephs big brown coats, and a red woolen scarf, Joseph was in his grey hoodie and tracksuit bottems, we were standing next to a snowman with a bright orange wig on, and stethoscope around it's neck, I smiled at the memory, it was before it all was mucked up, when we had fun.
I put in out on top, I couldn't bear to lock it up again, plus it would show Lori, we had known each other a long time, who was I kidding? I liked it there, it felt and looked right...
I was back on the sofa now, and Joseph came in.
" So all done?"
" Yes, you can go out if you like, don't have to stay with me"
" I don't really do much on my free time, I haven't had one off in months really..."
" Just a day off they've given you?"
"Er no a week, they owe me."
" Won't Darwin be short staffed now?"
" Connie's got two new consultants in, ones called Greg, and the other Sahira."
" Great, more people to hate."
" Oh , I'm sure you and Mrs Shah from what Iv'e heard will get on rather well." he smirked.
