Chapter 20

Kagome's POV

Out of reach

10 years later…

I was pulled out the dream of Inuyasha by something hard on my stomach. I slowly opened my eyes, letting them adjust to the light. As I looked to see what was on my stomach I

noticed a pair of brown eyes looking down at me. As the haze of sleep finally cleared from my mind I noticed that Kohana was the heavy object on my stomach. "Mama, are you finally

awake?" Kohana asked. I chuckled a little. Kohana was such an early riser, she had this thing were if she was up everyone had to be up. "I think I could sleep a little longer." I said

as I shut my eyes and pretended to fall back asleep.

Kohana did not seem to like that since she decided to start to jump up and down on my stomach. "Mama, you can't go back to sleep." Kohana said as she kept jumping up and down.

I opened my eyes and looked to her. "Why?" I asked her. Kohana giggled, "It's a special day that's why!" Kohana said as she finally stopped jumping on me. "What special day?" I

asked, as I pretended not to know. Kohana's face became very series. "Mama that's not funny, you know what day it is." Kohana said very seriously. I couldn't help but smile. "Of

course mama knows what the day is; she was just playing with you." I said as I sat up in bed, causing Kohana to fall off of my stomach. "It's your birthday!" I said as I started to

tickle her stomach. "Mama, stop." Kohana pleaded in between giggles.

I stopped and drew her into a hug. "Happy birthday!" I whispered in her ear. Kohana hugged me back tight. "Thank you mama." Kohana replied back. I placed a kiss on her cheek

then let go of her. "Why don't you get your brother and sister up? I'll go start on breakfast." I told her as I lifted her off me and swung my legs over the side. "Okay mama." Kohana

said as she jumped off the bed and ran to her and her sister's room. I got up from my bed and made my way over to the bathroom. I stopped in front of the mirror placed both hands

on either side of the sink and bowed my head. "Happy birthday Kovin." I whispered. I lifted my head and looked at my reflection.

It has been ten years since that day, the day that I died. Not a moment has passed since I longed for my son Kovin, and my love Inuyasha. My eyes locked onto my chest, where the

scar was. I pulled aside my shirt and stared at it, the spot where our life was taken away from each other, the spot where I was ripped away from Inuyasha. The scar that now was

placed on my chest was a consist reminder of what happened. "Mama, I got the others up." Kohana said as she knocked on the door. I snapped out of my depressive state and

walked to the door. I opened it. "Thank you, I'll be down in a minute to start breakfast." I told her. Kohana gave me a quick hug then ran out of the room. I quickly changed out of my

pajamas and into a long sleeve and shorts. I tied my hair up in a pony tail then made my way downstairs.

I quickly looked into the living room; Kohana and Izayoi were both on the couch playing with their Barbie's. Inu was nowhere in sight, most likely still in bed. Inu was such a bed bug

that it was just a challenge trying to get him out. I made my way into the kitchen and got out the pots and pans to make their special breakfast, which consisted of almost every

breakfast item you could think of. I got to work on the pancakes first, making sure to make plan, chocolate and fruit ones. Then came the French toast, then the eggs and bacon

along with home fries. I breathed a sigh of relief once all those were done; the only thing left was the fruit salad. I just finished setting the table when the doorbell rang. "Coming." I

called.

I walked over to the door and opened it. Mama, grandpa and Souta were standing on the other side. "Morning." I said as I hugged each of them. "Good morning Kagome." Mama

said as she hugged me. I took the presents out of her hands and placed them in the closet where the rest of them were. "You came at a good time, breakfast is ready." I said as I

walked back into the kitchen. I popped my head into the living room. "Girls breakfast is ready, and there is someone here to see you." I told them. "Coming mommy." Izayoi called

back to me. I looked back into the kitchen. "I'll be right back; I have to go get Inu up." I told them then walked up stairs.

I made my way down the hall and stopped outside of Inu's door. I knocked on the door and called. "Inu it is time to get up." I listened, no response. I knocked again and counted to

30, still no response. "I'm coming in." I warned. I opened the door and walked in. I looked over to the bed where Inu was passed out. I shook my head then walked over to the side

of the bed. I shook his body, trying to wake him. "Inu, please wake up." I said. All I got from him was a grunt. "You know what happens if you don't wake up." I warned, Again I only

got a grunt. "Fine, so be it." I said as I walked from his room to the bathroom. I got the bucket out from underneath to sink and turned the cold water to full blast, making it ice cold. I

filled up the bucket and walked back to Inu's room.

I stood beside the bed and held the bucket over top of him. "Last chance or I'm dumping it." I warned. "Go away." Inu groaned. "Just remember you asked for it." I said as I dumped

the icy cold water over him. Inu's eyes flew open. "MOM!" Inu yelled. He sat up in bed, dripping wet. "I warned you." I told him. I placed the bucket down beside the bed then walked

to the door. "Get dressed then come down stairs, breakfast is ready, were waiting on you." I said then walked out the door. "Happy birthday by the way." I called back as I walked

down the stairs. I could hear Inu mumbling, I laughed as I walked down the stairs. I walked back into the kitchen, where everyone was already seated. "Inu will be down in a few." I

told them. I went over to Izayoi and gave her a hug. "Happy birthday Izayoi." I told her. Izayoi giggled, "Thank you mommy." After I walked over to the fridge and grabbed all that

we had to drink.

Once I finished filling everyone's cups, Inu finally came into the kitchen. "Morning." He mumbled then flopped down in the seat between Mama and Souta. "Happy birthday Inu." They

all said. Inu mumbled his thanks then dug into his breakfast. I sat down in my seat and looked around the table. "Enjoy!" I said. Everyone dug in grabbing what they want. I only

grabbed some fruit salad, not really hungry. Mama and the others were busy chatting with the kids; I couldn't help as my thoughts drifted off the Kovin. How was he, was he growing

up fast like his brothers and siblings? It was hard going on each day wondering if Kovin was alright. I had tried numerous times to go through the well, but no luck came. I was stuck

on my side. Midoriko was right, I could not go back to the past anymore. I was to stay on my side of the well.

The sound of the phone ringing brought me back to the present. "I'll get it." I said then got up to answer the phone. "Hello?" I answered. "Hello Kagome, its Hojo." Hojo said on the

other line. I had the urge to sigh but kept it in. "Hi Hojo, how are you?" I asked to be polite. "Busy, I know it's your day off but I need you to come in, we have this case file due

Monday and we need to get it done by tonight." Hojo said. I closed my eyes and pinched the bride of my nose. "Sure, I'll be there in about half an hour." I said then hung up. I

walked back into the kitchen. Mama looked to me, somehow knowing what I was going to say. "We'll look after them, don't worry." Mama said. I smiled at her, grateful to have a

mother like her. "Thank you." I said as I hugged her. I placed a kiss on each of the kids head. "Mama has to go to work, but when she gets back we'll open presents Okay?" I told

them. "Okay." They all said together.

I nodded then headed upstairs to change into my work attire. I came back downstairs and meet Mama at the front door. "I'm going to take them back to the shrine; I have to get

some things done there." Mama said. "Okay, I'll swing by to pick them up after I'm done." I said, and then placed a kiss on her cheek then left. Thankfully work was about a 10

minute walk from where we lived. I had moved out of the family shrine for a few reasons, it was closer to work and we had more space. Also it was hard to live there always beside

the well house, the only thing that was separating Inuyasha, Kovin and I from being together. The walk went by pretty fast; I walked into the business lobby then headed straight

for the elevator and rode it up to the 5th floor.

After everything happened, I tried to live a normal life, I went to university got my degree in law. Hojo who as well got his degree in law had opened up his own law firm and offered

me a position. The elevator stopped at my floor, I got off then walked into the office. As I suspected the whole back area was covered in papers, and Hojo along with a few other

workers were piled behind the papers. "It might help if you keep it all in order." I said as I stopped in front of the desk. Hojo looked up and his face seemed to have a look of relief.

"Thank god you showed up Kagome. We're going to need all the help we can get to have this ready." Hojo said as he looked back to the stack of papers he was looking at. I placed

my stuff on the clear desk then got to work. Thankfully the work kept me busy, so I barely noticed the time.

As I got done with my section I finally glanced at the clock. It was already 5 o'clock. I've been here for 6 hours, since 11 o'clock. I looked up from my stack of papers to Hojo; he was

still buried in papers. "Hojo, I'm done, so I'm going to leave." I told him hoping that I would make a quick escape. Hojo looked up. "We aren't done yet." He said. I sighed and ran a

hand through my hair. "I know, but today is the kids birthday, I promised them I would not be long." I said, playing the kids card. Hojo's mouth opened to an o shape. "That's why

you had to day off, oh Kagome I'm so sorry, that's okay you can leave. See you Monday." Hojo said then returned back to his papers. I nodded then grabbed my stuff then left.

I caught the bus outside of the building to the shrine. As I got off at the stop near the shrine my phone went off. I fished it out of my purse. "Hello?" I answered. "Kagome You need

to come to the shrine quick something happened to the kids." Mama said on the other line in a panicked voice. At this point I started running. "What happened?" I asked as I ran

towards the shrine. "They fell into the well, and there not at the bottom." I almost stopped running, the kids they were able to travel through the well? "I'm just done the road; I'll be

there in a few." I snapped the phone shut then ran as hard to the shrine. I ran up the stairs and to the well house. Mama, grandpa and Souta were all standing inside the well

house looking down into the well. I hurried down the stairs and looked down into the well. It was true; they weren't at the bottom waiting for me. They were gone; gone from this

era, they had travelled back to the past.
