Chapter 18
Thorin had just arrived into Bree after traveling several days and nights without must rest or nourishment. He entered the Prancing Pony and sat at a table, keeping his bag and sword close to his person. A barmaid approached him and asked what he wanted to order. He placed his order and she walked off. Once the maid was gone, Thorin looked around and noticed a couple of men staring at him across the room. Not liking the looks they were giving him, Thorin gripped his sword's hilt and kept a straight face. The men were about to get up when a certain Gray Wizard decided to join Thorin.
Gandalf began to talk to the exiled Dwarf King, and then dropped the bombshell of the bounty for the dwarf's head. That's when Gandalf mentioned that it was time to return to Erebor and they began to plan. Just as Thorin was about to go turn in for the night, the Wizard stopped him.
"Just want to let you know now, Thorin, that I will be acquiring some help from a powerful kind. They may or may not bring companions of their own, but they can be trusted. Castiel is one of the few of her surviving race and is known to be feared when angered or sadden."
Thorin glares at him. "You wish to bring someone or something as dangerous as this Castiel on this journey? She could be a danger to us all!"
Gandalf smiled. "Only if Castiel wanted to be enemies with you or you with her, but I have been keeping an eye on our recruit and I deemed Castiel worthy."
I awoke with a start. I just had a dream of the intro of the Desolation of Smaug, but with a slight twist at the end. How long did Gandalf know about me? Shaking my head to clear it, I looked around to notice we were in a formation of rocks, not the Carrock where we landed with the eagles. I also noticed I was tied to Thorin's back for some reason, and then I remembered that I had fallen asleep. I guess they couldn't wake me up. There was a scuffling sound and I looked up to one of the rocks to see Bilbo trying to peer over it.
Feeling slightly uncomfortable, I began to squirm slightly and tapping Thorin's shoulder. He jumped slightly, probably thought I was still sleeping, and looked back to see my sleepy smile.
"I would ask when we have arrived here, but I have a feeling everyone will make fun of my heavy sleeping." I squirmed again. "Can you release me please? As much as I enjoy being close to you, I rather not be tied up to your back."
Thorin nodded and began to untie the knots holding me to him. Once done I got off his back and shook off the remaining rope. Once I was completely free, Thorin had me in his arm and I gave a small squeal at being caught off guard.
"You had me worrying that something has happened to you at the Carrock." He muttered into my ears and he held me tighter. "If your friends hadn't told me about how you recover from using much of your powers, then I would be in a state of distress."
"Which you were!" We looked up to see Jackie smiling at us, but it disappeared when she caught my glare. She hid behind Fili, who laughed along with Kili and Colleen, who were snuggled closely to each other.
The other dwarves looked relieved to see me awake and healthy. Oin came up to me and began to check me over once Thorin had reluctantly let me go. Gandalf came over and told me that we had move since Jackie had smelt the odor of an Orc amongst the wind while in dragon form. The Company had left Carrock in hopes of getting a head start, but they manage to get a few miles before having to take refuge her in the rock formation. They tied me to Thorin because I somehow wouldn't allow myself to be separated from as I slept. I turned deep red in embarrassment for I didn't know my instincts took over like that.
There was scurrying and we turned to see Bilbo rushing towards us. I noticed he had Terra, my shield, attached to his back. Everyone held their swords at him, but lowered them when they realized it was only him. Bilbo looks towards me and sees that I was standing before running over and hugging me. I returned the hug and stepped back so Bilbo could report what he saw during his scouting.
As he gave his report, I checked myself over: my Assassin hoodie was fine, but had some blood splatter on the white and blue fabric. Gauntlets were still fastened under the sleeves and secure on my wrists. Still had some smoke pellets left in the pouches that are in my hidden hoodie pockets. Sword still fastened in its sheath attached to my waist, but my pack wasn't on me. I would've gone into panic mode if Bifur didn't walk up to me and gave my pack to me. Apparently he and Bofur took turns carrying it and making sure my violin was safe. I signed my thanks to him and turned back to the conversation just as Bilbo mentions that he saw something other than Orcs.
"What did you see?" Gandalf asked, eyes growing worried and…hope?
"It was big!" Bilbo explained, trying to get every detail that he could remember out. "Not only was it big, but pretty fast. It managed to go after and take out a couple of Orcs already! Not to mention very, very strong."
Gandalf, after hearing all of this, asked "Was it a bear?"
"Yes, but it's a giant bear!"
Gandalf turned away for a moment to think things through. Jackie decided to open her mouth and reveal some knowledge on the situation. Which I say is a bad idea if you weren't born is this reality.
"Wait, isn't there a man who supposed to live nearby here?" she blurted out. Colleen and I widen our eyes, but slightly relaxed at how our friend covers up her slip up. "I heard rumors about these parts about a man, who is a skin changer like me, but a different animal. Can't we ask him for some help?"
Gandalf turned back and looked at her. "Yes, my dear, there is another skin changer who lives in these lands. His name is Beorn and quite likes his solitary. Although I think I can persuade him to help us." Then he turned serious as he looked at the rest of us. "We must be quick so we would not be caught by anything."
