I'm startled awake at three in the morning by the vibration of my phone. My heart is immediately in my throat because I think of Bella, but I'm surprised to hear a voice I don't recognize.
"Hello? Who is this?" They ask.
"Who the hell this?! Why are you calling me right now?"
"My name is Natalie, I'm –I'm Rosalie's mom."
"Is everything alright?"
"No, Rosie is in the hospital. She told me in the ambulance that she wanted me to call you."
I'm up and out the door in two minutes.
I've never met her, but I see Rosalie's mom as soon as I enter the ER. Bright blue eyes just like Rose. They look like sisters and from what Rose has told Bella and I , her mom wanting to be her sister is what their main issue is.
"You're Edward, right?!"
"Yes, what's going on?"
"She won't tell me."
"Are you fucking kidding me?!"
I draw the disapproving stares of a couple of nurses when I kick the trashcan next to my foot.
When I enter the room I fall to my knees because my best friend is nothing but black and blue.
BPOV
It's very strange leaving the facility. Because of what happened I was permitted to leave and go see about Rose. Not that they could have stopped me anyway.
Rose made a point to take care of me for a long time, it's my turn to be there for her.
When I get to Rose's hospital room, I choose to stand in the doorway. I see that Edward has fallen asleep.
As soon as I see Rose I turn around and trip into the hallway. I press my back against the wall.
"Bella, " I hear Edwards raspy voice say. I guess my fumbling woke him up.
I can feel my eyes burning and Edward brings his hands up to the sides of my face.
"It's okay, sweetheart."
"What happened?!"
"Royce beat her up."
"Jesus! What are you talking about!? "
"They were at his place and Rose told him that she was done and he wouldn't let her leave."
"I told you that you needed to talk to her, Edward!"
"I know, I'm sorry. I've just been all over the place and trying to make sure you're okay-"
"oh god." I feel nauseous and I have to bend over to keep from puking.
"I'm not blaming this on you, Bella. This isn't about us. This is about Rose. She needs us right now."
When Rose comes to again, she starts crying. And then we're all crying.
They're my family.
I'm sorry I wasn't able to update on Thursday! It's important to me that these are quality, so I took some more time to work on this. Regarding Rose, she became a more central character than I anticipated, but I'm cool with that. What's awesome about writing a story is that it kind of starts to write itself…if that makes sense. Like, characters develop identities and it's not hard to write about their lives because you know the choices that they would make.
It broke my heart in the books when Rose told her story about Royce and unfortunately living in an abusive relationship is the reality for millions of women and men. No one should have to live in fear. If you are in an abusive relationship here are some resources:
