Chapter 19: Return
"Turn the channel," Carlos demanded.
Kendall focused his mind on the old television sitting on the floor in front of them. Blinking his eyes, the channel changed. Smiling he turned to Carlos, receiving a kiss as a reward.
The Latino glanced around the room until his eyes fell on the window, "Open the window."
Raising his hand out in front of him Kendall pushed up air, the window following his movements, "How was that?" he asked his teacher receiving another reward.
"You learn fast."
"I had a great teacher," Kendall pointed out wrapping his arms the Latino's neck and pulling him in for another kiss.
"Not to mention positive motivation," Stephanie spoke up to remind them that she was still there before their make out session heated up any further.
"Right, sorry Steph," Carlos giggled sitting up before cuddling back into Kendall's side.
"Don't worry about me," Stephanie brushed it off as she stood, picking her purse up from the coffee table and throwing it over her shoulder, "I know you're probably trying to get in as much Kendall time before James come home tonight. I should probably go and check on Katie anyway before Logan gets home and make sure she hasn't killed Mercedes."
"Thanks for the Chinese!" said Kendall.
"If Lucy asks I'm still sick!" Carlos winked.
"Dude she reads mind," Stephanie laughed. "I haven't mastered lying to her yet. I can only avoid the subject."
"It's easy. Just picture me being sick in your mind. What ever is in your head is what she sees," the Latino explained. "In fact, picture something completely different. I used to picture Logan naked all the time. It used to piss her off when ever she was trying to get some information out of me. Eventually she stopped trying."
"Logan? Really?"
Carlos blushed, "What? He's hot!"
Stephanie looked to Kendall who just shrugged, "We already had this conversation."
"So what are you going to do now? Start picturing Kendall?"
"No!" Carlos shot down that idea before she could even finish as he buried his nose into the blonde's neck, "I don't like to share," he pouted. "Kendall's mine."
Kendall grinned, pulling the Latino into him tighter before kissing the top of his head.
"In that case, I'll leave you two alone then," she said opening the door and turning to leave only to find herself face to face with a chocolate eyed brunette leaning against the door jam, "Logan!" she jumped back startled before rushing towards him and helping him into the apartment.
At the sound of the name, the two boys jump apart, Carlos rushing to Stephanie's aid to help her carry Logan inside.
"Are you alright?" Stephanie asked sitting him down on the couch.
"I'm fine," he insisted. "Just a bit dizzy from the long distance teleporting."
"Where's James?" Carlos demanded looking around for his absent brother.
As if on cue, there was a faint pop and two more figures appeared. One was a blue-eyed brunette who Kendall had never seen before. He was holding up James who was pale and looked as if he were about to pass out. Carlos made to help him, but the stranger held up his hand and Carlos obeyed instantly, stepping a side as the brunette single-handedly lifted James into his arms, carried him over to the couch before laying him down beside Logan. Logan stiffened as James reached for his hand. For a second, Kendall thought he was going to take it until Stephanie spoke, startling the healer.
"Can you help him, Logan?"
Logan moved his hand out of James' reach before looking up at everyone, shaking his head, "There's nothing to heal. His energy is just drained from teleporting back and forth at such distances with both of us," he nodded his head towards the new guy. "He just needs to rest. He'll be fine."
"Should we call Mercedes?" Carlos asked.
"No!" Logan snapped venomously. He hated that name more than ever now. "I mean it's not necessary. Just let him sleep."
Carlos nodded, "Are you going to stay with him? To make sure he's alright?"
"He'll be fine," the healer repeated. "I have to go home and check on Katie," Logan insisted before turning to Stephanie. "Can you give me a ride?"
She nodded and without another word, the brunette disappeared out the door behind her. Carlos stared after him. He knew something was wrong. There was something off about Logan, but he couldn't worry about that right now.
Instead, he turned back towards the blue-eyed brunette who stood off to the side, leaning against a wall with his arms crossed. He wanted to speak, to say something, but he felt frozen under his cold blue gaze. He never expected him to be here. He never expected James to be able to find him, let alone speak to him, but here he was, starring him down. He reached for Kendall's hand, lacing their fingers together. He couldn't care less what he thought about them and James was in any state to notice. Seeing the connection made between the two seem to break the ice, as the brunette smirked, his eyes traveling down to their connected hands then back up to Carlos' eyes.
"Hey George," he nodded easing the tension that surrounded the small flat.
"Frank," Carlos replied trying to keep a straight face at their inside joke before finally loosing it and cracking up laughing the brunette joining in as well as he walked across the room and pulled Carlos into an embrace. Kendall's hand never left Carlos' as the brunette wrapped his arms around the Latino. As soon as the three of them connected, a jolt of electricity ran through them and the room began to spin. Kendall's grip on Carlos tightened. This was nothing like the tingling sensation they usually felt. This was different. He wasn't sure if it was the other man making this happen or if it was him, but he wasn't going to let Carlos go.
The next thing he knew, the three of them were in rather fancy looking loft apartment. It was huge. Bookcases lined quite a few of the walls, filled with literature. White leather furniture was position nicely throughout the rest of the open apartment. The shiny silver kitchen appliances appeared to be brand new. He looked over to Carlos who was staring around in wonder while the brunette looked fearful. Kendall opened his mouth to speak to them, but nothing came out. He and Carlos had shared visions before, but this was the first time he had actually seen 'present day' Carlos during those vision, not to mention the brunette was there as well.
There was a shuffling sound and the three turned towards a door stationed at the top of a spiral staircase. To Kendall's surprise, the brunette dressed in a long white lab coat walked out the door, followed by two more men dressed in similar attire. They each carried clipboards and were talking quietly amongst each other so that Kendall couldn't make out what they were hearing. The blond made to get a closer, but the brunette had said good-bye to his guest before he could make it over to the front door.
Kendall followed him as he crossed the loft, removing the lab coat and tossing the clipboard aside until he made it to the window. He tapped it twice, paused a second before tapping it thrice. He stepped away as the window opened and a blond head came into view.
Kendall recognized the blond instantly. It was the same kid he had seen on the fire escape in his previous visions of the younger Carlos. Sure enough the boy turned around and helped a second boy through the window. The two boys laughing as Carlos tripped and the two of them came crashing to the ground, Carlos on top of him.
"Did you get any more information, Jett?" Alex asked.
The brunette shook his head and it finally clicked as Kendall looked back and forth from the brunette in the vision to the brunette standing next to his present day Carlos, "They mentioned they've been tracking one in California, but they wouldn't tell me anything else."
"Perhaps, we can be of assistance."
Jett's reflexes were so fast, Kendall had no idea where he pulled the pistol from, but one minute it was pointed at James and the next and the next, James was behind Carlos.
"Who are you?" Jett questioned, his gun in his outstretched hand still unsure of where to point it as James kept popping in and out of view.
"Someone you are obviously interested in," James smirked suddenly behind him. "Now if you wouldn't mind putting that thing down," 'pop' "Maybe stay in one place," 'pop', "and we could talk," 'pop'.
Jett thought about it for a moment. He glanced over at Carlos and Alex who sat huddled together on the couch. They nodded their approval. Jett clicked the safety back into place before shoving his gun back into his back pocket before shouting out into the air, "Alright. Let's talk."
There was another 'pop' and James returned this time, to Kendall's amazement, with Dak. James sat down beside Carlos, Dak on his other side. He appeared smug as he looked up at the blue-eyed brunette, "I'm James. I'm a teleporter. This is my friend Dak. He's a locator."
"Jett. Mortal." James eyed him curiously before looking at Carlos who nodded. "What do you want, James, teleporter?"
"I came for my baby brother."
It was Jett's turn to stare, "Come again?"
"I've been doing some research and turns out Carlos here is my baby brother," James elaborated wrapping an arm around the Latino who looked a bit frightened.
"Wait, you're James as in James Diamond?" Jett said suddenly making Carlos sit up at this news while Jett ran over to one of the many bookcases and searched through it until he pulled out a file.
"The one and only."
"You mean it's true?" Carlos asked still not fully believing everything he was being told. "He's really my brother?"
Jett opened the file and starting shuffling through some papers until he found one that interested him. Pulling it out, he handed it over to Carlos to read, Alex reading over his shoulder.
"Does this mean Carlos is going with him?" Alex asked, wrapping his arms protectively around the Latino as he looked up at Jett, his eyes beginning to water.
"Carlos isn't going anywhere he doesn't want to go."
James saw red as he jumped to his feet, "Carlos is my brother! He's coming home with me."
"This is his home."
"Why would he want to live with a mortal? What can you do for him?" James seethed.
Jett laughed at this, "I know more about your abilities than you do. You probably don't even know where you came from or why you have these abilities in the first place."
"At least I have an ability!"
"Big deal! You can teleport! How is that going to protect him?"
"Protect him from what?"
Jett smirked, "You really do know nothing. There are people out there, James. Dangerous people who want to hurt people like you."
"Dak here can locate others like us. We've already tracked a few of them down. We're going to gather them together and start a group. We can protect each other."
"But who's going to protect you from yourselves?"
James glared at him, "I don't need this," he said turning towards the Latino still sitting on the couch reading through his personal file. The blond boy had his arms wrapped protectively around him, reading over his shoulder. James approached him and kneeled in front of him, taking him by surprised as he attempted to be as cautious as possible, "Dak and I are staying at a motel across town. We're going to be here a few days. I'll be back tomorrow to spend sometime with you. We can hang out. Get to know each other. Hopefully by the time we leave you'll see it my way. Family first," he smiled at the thirteen year old. "I'll pop back in tomorrow."
Without waiting for a response, he placed a hand on Dak's shoulder and the two disappeared with a pop.
As soon as he was gone, Carlos was in Jett's arms, "Please don't let him take me. I want to stay with you, Jett. I don't want to leave Alex. Please don't let him take me away from Alex."
A sudden crack echoed throughout the apartment, followed by a loud boom that shook the whole house. Looking out the window Kendall saw the darkening sky as storm clouds roared to life. He closed his eyes, trying to calm himself as he picture a blue sky, but the sound of Carlos' gentle voice made him open his eyes again. The young boy was standing in front of the young blond, speaking softly to him, starring deeply into his tear soaked eyes as he had done to Kendall to make the clouds go away.
Kendall closed his eyes and opened them again. This time he was back in the shabby old apartment, Carlos' hand in his and Jett's arms around the Latino. The three slowly backed away from the embrace. Carlos' reached up and touched Kendall's face, whipping away a tear that Kendall hadn't even realized was falling down his cheek.
"You're making it rain," the Latino gave him a weak smile as he glanced toward the open window at the light drizzle that had started to fall.
Kendall didn't know where the sudden overwhelming feeling of sadness had come from, but he couldn't shake it. The floodgates opened up and the tears rained down. The harder he cried, the harder it rained outside.
"Did he just bring us back in time?" Jett asked.
Carlos shook his head as he wrapped his arms around the blond trying to calm him, "We didn't exactly go anywhere. It was a vision. It happens sometimes when we touch. For some reason they've been getting stronger."
"Let me get this straight," Jett stood back ignoring the sobs coming from the blond, "He touches someone and pulls them into a vision?"
Carlos shook his head, "No. It only happens with him and me. This is the first time anyone else has ever been involved," he clarified rubbing Kendall's back shushing him. "What's wrong, Baby?" he whispered into his ear. "What happened? Did you see something we didn't?"
Kendall shook his head. He didn't know what was wrong. These visions had never affected him like this before. He never felt an emotion this strong before. He wanted to stop crying, he just couldn't.
Jett leaned back against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest as he watched the two. The scene was oddly familiar, but he couldn't put his finger on it. There was definitely something unique about this boy. He tried to search his mind for the name, but it didn't ring a bell. There was nothing in his files about a Kendall Knight. He had files on everyone the Others had kept tabs on. How could they miss Kendall Knight?
"Carlos?" a weak voice had everyone's attentions looking towards the couch where a sickling looking James was attempting to sit up. Carlos detangled himself from the sobbing Kendall and hurried for his brother, forcing him back down.
The loss of the Latino's contact made Kendall furious. He didn't know what had come over him as his sadness turned into anger. His emotions were out of control as the sky grew darker and lightning began to flash across the sky as the apartment rumbled with the sound of thunder below their feet.
Jett's blue eyes widened as he watched with heightened curiosity. James was not lying when he claimed this boy was far stronger than the boy whom he had previously known to have such an ability.
"James you need to lay down. You need to rest."
"Where's Logan?" James asked trying to sit back up as his eyes searched the apartment for the brown-eyed healer. "I need Logan."
"Logan's not here. He went home."
"What?" James' eyes were wide as he fought with Carlos to sit up, but in his weakened state there wasn't much of a fight and the smaller boy won easily. "I need Logan. Why did he leave?"
"He said you were fine, James. There was nothing he could do. He went home to check on Katie. He said you just need some rest to get your energy back."
"He left me?" James yawned, his eyes getting heavy as he fought with himself to stay awake.
"I'm sure he'll be back to check on you," Carlos smiled.
James nodded at Carlos final statement, giving in to his tiredness and allowing for sleep to overtake him.

New fic opinion?: Also was talking to friend on here who thinks there's not enough Mpregs... so would anyone be interested in reading one if i wrote one? I already have some notes for one that I typed up a while ago. I just can't decide if I want a Jarlos/Kogan or a Kames/Cargan. (or basically just tell me what pairing you want to read.) Your choice! Let me know what you think!
