**** Chapter Twenty ****

Emily opened her eyes, she'd had a good sleep. A glance at the wall clock told her she'd slept until lunchtime. Her mom was walking in the room with fresh clothes, which she laid on Emily's bed.

"How are you feeling?"

Emily nodded, "Better."

"You really scared me, Emily."

She held out her hand, which Pam accepted.

"I'm sorry, mom."

A nurse came in the room and looked at the chart at the foot of the bed, "Looking good, Emily. You can go home today. I just need to complete some forms, maybe your mom can help?"

Pam nodded at the nurse, then turned to her daughter. "I won't be long."

Leaning over to the bedside table, Emily grabbed her phone, which Hanna had brought to her the previous day.

She texted Spencer, Hanna and Paige to tell them she was going home, and started to change into the new clothes her mom had brought for her. It was a bit of a struggle since her hand was bandaged but she was determined to do things herself without help.

Once she was changed into her clothes, she lifted the magazines and grapes her mom had brought and sat on the bed, waiting for Pam to return so that they could go home.

Her phone beeped and she picked it up; it was a text from Hanna. She was working but would call over later.

To pass the time, Emily browsed to the photo gallery on her phone and smiled as she flicked through the photos. She let out a small laugh when she reached the one of Paige in the tuxedo.

Emily always used to think she would never be as happy as her friends seemed to be. With Paige, she finally realised what love was. She felt so lucky to have found someone who made her feel the way that Paige did. She had found her soul-mate. And almost lost her.

Emily thought of all the obstacles they had faced together; but they still found their way back to each other every time. Emily couldn't imagine her life without Paige now. She brushed her finger lightly down the photo on the screen, smiling.

Just then, a text message arrived. From Spencer. She was working on some paperwork for a case but was pleased that Emily was getting home and she would visit as soon as she could.

Just as Emily finished reading the text message, her mom returned to the room.

"Okay Emmy, all the paperwork has been filled in so you're ready to go anytime."

She smiled at her mother. "I'm good to go" she answered, getting up from the bed and linking her arm through her mothers, as they both walked from the hospital room and towards home.

Her mom took her in the house and sat her down on the kitchen table, preparing and then putting a huge plate of food in front of her.

"Mom?"

Her mom looked at her, "I don't want to hear it, Emily. I want to see you eat."

She rolled her eyes, but started tucking into the food. It tasted amazing, she hadn't ate for days but her appetite was truly back now. As it was her first proper meal of the day, she was even more appreciative of it.

She watched her mom smiling as she ate. She had some trouble eating with only her left hand but she took her time and managed reasonably well because the food wasn't messy. She wasn't looking forward to eating more complex dishes while her wrist healed, but she figured she'd get better with her left hand and it would stop bothering her pretty soon.

"Did you learn this in your cookery course?"

Her mom laughed, "Emily I could cook before the course, you know that."

Emily smiled, "Was it fun?"

Her mom made a face, "It was okay, a lot of the stuff I knew already but I did bring home some recipes I wouldn't mind trying out. And the teacher was quite a dish."

Emily opened her mouth, shocked. "Mom!"

Her mom smiled at her, "It's nice to see you smiling again."

Emily laughed. "What happened to dad, you said he might come home but what happened?"

Her mom shook her head, "He ended up getting placed somewhere, he couldn't get out of it."

Emily nodded, she looked at her plate shyly. "Does he know?"

Her mom noticed and figured what Emily was asking. "About Paige?"

Emily nodded, "Paige, the accident, everything."

"He does. I managed to get hold of him a few days ago, to tell him about what happened and that you were okay. I told him about Paige then."

Emily gulped, "And?"

"He just wants you to be safe and happy, Emily. Just like me" her mom replied giving her a smile.

Emily smiled back, finishing her food before taking the dishes to the sink.

"I'll wash up, you go sit on the couch and relax. Oh, and I spoke to Zack. He says to take time to recover. Don't rush back to work, they'll manage without you until your wrist gets better."

Emily nodded as she walked towards the couch, reaching for the remote control before sitting down.

Just as Emily relaxed in front of the TV, her phone lit up. Paige had texted saying she had been busy, but was on her way over. Emily smiled, just as the doorbell went.

"You're popular right now. Stay there, i'll get the door."

Emily grinned, "Thanks, mom."

"Look at you, lady of leisure."

Emily looked up to see Spencer enter the room and walk over to the couch, taking a seat beside her.

"Well if it isn't Miss Marple."

Spencer laughed and hit Emily playfully on the side, then apologised.

"Spencer, i'm fine. I'm not a glass vase you know. I just have a sprained wrist."

"Are we good? I know I was a bit of a bitch when I first came back, but we're cool now right?"

Emily frowned, "Of course. I forgive you for all that stuff before, you were just looking out for me. You were shocked, I don't blame you. Your heart was in the right place, it always is. I owe you one now though."

Spencer frowned and shook her head.

"For Paige. You found her. I'll forever owe you for that."

"Don't be daft, Em. It was the least I could do. And you know how much I love detective shows."

Emily laughed, "How did you find her so fast though?"

"It wasn't so hard. You figured out where the hut was, you knew it was in the forest. I just drove over there like a mad woman. I'm just glad I got there in time." Spencer looked at the carpet, and let out a sigh.

The doorbell went for a second time. Spencer patted Emily on the hand, before getting up to answer the door. Pam was sitting on the chair beside them, engrossed in a cooking programme which was on TV.

Emily looked up as Paige walked into the room, followed by Spencer.

"Hi" said Paige, giving a shy wave to Emily.

"Hi" replied Emily, patting the couch beside her indicating where she wanted Paige to sit. Paige grinned and sat down next to Emily, Spencer at the opposite side.

Pam looked over. "Paige, would you like a drink?"

"No thanks, Miss Fields, i'm fine."

Emily smiled, "We might just head upstairs mom, leave you to your cooking show."

Pam glared at Emily, who smirked at her. She stood up and Spencer followed, with Paige behind.

Just as they entered Emily's room, the doorbell went again. Emily laughed, "That'll be Hanna." She glanced at Paige, who was looking around the room awkwardly. It was the first real time they had all been together in a room where nobody was fighting and Emily could sense that Paige was a bit unsure of what to do.

Emily sat on her bed, motioning for Paige to sit beside her. As she walked to the bed and sat down, Emily took her hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze, making Paige give her a grateful smile. "I'm glad you're here."

Paige smiled at Emily, her eyes brightening.

"Me too."

They turned to Spencer, who had spoken.

"What? I'm glad Paige is here too."

Emily smiled, and looked at Paige who turned to Spencer, "Thanks."

Spencer nodded. "I hope we can become friends, if you'd like."

Paige nodded, "I'd like that." Spencer smiled, just as Hanna walked into the room.

Hanna walked over to Emily, a huge grin on her face. She wrapped her arms around her friend, "It's great to see you outside that hospital. I hate hospitals, they always smell funny, and there's so many old people."

Emily hugged Hanna back, "Hanna, there's not that many old people. And what's wrong with old people?"

Hanna pulled away, "Oh, nothing, but they just smell sometimes you know?"

Emily frowned and shook her head, "Ok, Han."

Hanna laughed, and looked at Paige. She walked to the other side of the bed and gave Paige a hug, surprising her. "I'm glad you're back, Paige."

"Thanks."

Hanna walked over to the window seat and sat down next to Spencer.

"Paige, I hope Spencer is being nice to you."

Spencer hit Hanna on the leg, "Hey, i'm always nice."

Hanna made a face, and the others laughed.

"Yeah, she's being nice. I owe her a lot. I might not..." Paige stopped speaking, pausing. "I owe her." She looked at Spencer, giving her a half smile.

Spencer waved at her dismissively. "Nobody owes me anything."

The four girls chatted for a while, before they all gradually went home for the night, promising to visit Emily again soon.

Emily went to bed shortly afterwards, tired from the long day.

Emily smiled before she fell asleep, as she reflected on the day. Spencer was back to her old caring, friendly self. Hanna was as amusing as ever. Paige was back. She was surrounded by people who loved her, and after everything, they were still standing by her.
