Summoner 101: Lesson 20
Demons who are left without a master can remain in the human world while searching for a new master until their reserves of demon power last. A new master means a new contract. But there are demons who look for demon gates that can be naturally found in the human environment, like in hidden caves or abandoned houses. There are also some demons who only connect to the demon gates of magicians or summoners to have an access to the demon power that they need, even without forming a contract with the summoner or magician.
"I brought them here," Nijimura-sensei said. Following him were five students: a brown-haired female followed by a tall red-haired male, a bespectacled boy, a dark-haired boy with an irritated look on his face and a gray-eyed boy.
Mayuzumi ran his blank stare on the humans and a familiar. "Five demon gates, huh?"
"What d'you need, demon?" the tall red-haired one asked. "If you're going to hurt my master, Aida-sama, then...!"
The brown-haired female suddenly nudged him on the stomach.
"Relax, Kagami-kun," she said. She turned back to Mayuzumi, all too aware that the famous multicolored-haired familiars of the genius student council president surrounded them. "Mayuzumi Chihiro-kun, right? Nijimura-sensei told us that we'll transfer this cloud of darkness into the demon world, but he hadn't really explained us what we're going to do."
"I will gather the demon power and tone its strength down. And then I will pass this toned down power to the familiars for them to absorb. The summoners and magicians will let then let the demon power absorbed by the familiars to pass through their demon gates, and then to the demon world," Mayuzumi said. "It's just like passing demon power to a familiar, but the process will be reversed. The most important thing is to manipulate the demon power so as not to lose control."
"It's too dangerous—" the one called Kagami started saying, but the female near him — who presumably is his master — reached up to put her hand on his mouth, effectively silencing that large familiar.
"I'm in. Of course, Kagami-kun is in, too," Aida said, smiling. Kagami had no other choice but to sigh in resignation, only sighing slightly as the hand of his master remained on his mouth.
The bespectacled male raised a hand. "I'm only a magician. How can I have a familiar to pass me the demon power?"
Midorima pushed his glasses up, looking at the other male. "We familiars can connect to your demon gate temporarily."
"Where is your master?" the boy with the glasses asked the demon with glasses.
Midorima frowned. "He's inside that cloud of demon power. A co-familiar of mine is inside to save the master."
The boy with glasses chuckled. "Aren't you betraying your master by connecting to the demon gate of another human?"
The boy with an irritated look on his face hit the bespectacled one at the back of his head. "Isn't there more important matters than that, Hyuuga?"
Hyuuga fixed his glasses up his nose. "I get it, Kasamatsu!"
"I'm just a magician too, so one of you guys will be connecting to me." The silver-eyed male approached Midorima, offering a hand. "My name's Takao."
The green-haired boy accepted the hand. "I'm Midorima."
"I know, Shin-chan," Takao said brightly, much to the irritation of the tall familiar at the nickname. "You, your co-familiars and your master are pretty popular, after all."
"Then, I'll connect this guy," Kasamatsu said as he hit Kise on his shoulder.
Hyuuga approached the purple-haired demon but Murasakibara moved towards Nijimura, trying to hide despite him being taller than the sensei.
"I'm scared of the glasses human," the tall but childish demon said. "His voice is so loud."
Aomine chuckled, moving towards the bespectacled human. "Looks like you're left to connect me, glasses human."
"Leave my glasses alone!" Hyuuga yelled. He turned to Murasakibara while pointing at Kasamatsu. "He's noisy too!"
Kasamatsu made an indignant sound as Murasakibara nodded.
Mayuzumi looked at them one more time: Aida - Kagami, Takao - Midorima, Kasamatsu - Kise, Nijimura - Murasakibara and Hyuuga - Aomine. For a while, the summoners and magicians were busy fixing their demon gates to their respective demon familiars.
"Are your connections secured?" Mayuzumi asked. When he received nods and sounds of affirmation, he stretched a hand towards the cloud of demon power. The darkness gathered on his palm, turning into something like liquid tar and crackling with strong energy. "Then let's go through with this plan."
