Abe's POV

From the moment I had been told Dimitri and Adrian had been taken I started jumping into action. No matter how much I picked on them, and gave them a ton of work to do, I cared deeply for those two young men. They were both dedicated, strong, and had hearts that would make anyone fall for them. Not only that I knew both their fathers were not what they should have been. Even though one of them was engaged to my daughter, and about have a baby with her, I felt the need to be a father figure.

I struggled a lot with everything I had missed in my daughters life, but I was intent on making it up to her. And if I lost her Dimitri I knew I would lose her. Those two had a bond like nothing I had ever seen before. I knew without each other they would be lost. A love like that did not happen very often, and I was so beyond happy that my Kizm had been able to get that out of life.

That was why when I was told they had been taken I had sent my best men after them. I would not lose them, and especially not to that man Victor. I now knew who he was, and nothing was going to stop me from finding him. That evil man had been the reason I had lost my Janine, I had been broken when news of her death had found me. But I kept quiet trying to live on, though it was hard to do.

Janine had truly disappeared off the face of the planet. I had spent years looking for her, but to no avail. She had been through so much, and as the man who said he loved her, I hated myself. I had let her get raped, taken, and used. All because I had let my job come first. Though she had done the same thing, I had been the one to give her the OK. She had gone with Victor to protect her kids, kids that even though two were from people she hated, she loved. Mason, Rose, and even little Eddie were everything to Janine.

When she had finally showed up again after about four years I was ecstatic. I thought her return would mean another chance for us. But instead she refused to see me, and I had to learn of her illness from Mason. Though Mason hated me at first for what had happened, he soon took me on as his father. He knew who his father was, but wanted nothing to do with him. I happily took his place, the boy had always been a hard worker, and he had spent a lot of his own time and effort raising my daughter and his small brother.

My heart broke into a million pieces when I raced out of the guardian building and saw my daughter being taken. I fought with all my might, but it was not enough. NO matter how hard I tried I was never able to find Adrian, Christian, Rose, or Dimitri. They all but disappeared into thin air. The harder I tried to find them, the less I found. I spent months looking, researching. I let myself go, but I did not care. That man could not and would not keep those kids.

I had begun to lose hope when I received a package one night. Looking down at it I could no longer hold back the tears. It was the only thing I would have of my daughter and the man she loved so much. Thankfully Mason had stepped in and made me see that I could not give up. He grew up before my eyes and again started another effort to find the missing four. He knew he had been wanted, but it seemed as if Victor had given up on getting him.

Everything changed again when I was woken up by someone stroking my cheek six months later. At first I thought I had been dreaming. Her red curly hair was bright and halo like. Her green eyes shining as she looked down upon me. I sat up quickly and took in the sight of Janine before me. A small sad smile graced her lips before she threw herself at me wrapping her small arms around me like I was the air she breathed.

My poor Janine had been through so much. It turns out she had faked her illness. Those four years away she had been with Victor. He had captured her, tortured her. And for a while there made her forget everything about her past. She had lived almost like a slave to him. Whatever he needed she gave him. Whenever he sent her out to complete a task she did it. But one day she had woken up with the thought of her children.

Instead of telling Victor, Janine stopped taking her medication. One day it all came crashing back to her. She made a run for it, but she knew she could only get away for so long. She knew the only way now she could keep everyone safe was to fake her death. So that was exactly what she did, and she had done a very good job of it. The only problem that came with that was Victor's obsession with Janine he cared not about staying away from her kids anymore.

He had become obsessed with Rose. Rose and anyone that meant anything to her. Rose was the child he could not have with Janine, the daughter he so much longed for. It was a crazy thought, and idea. But he hated Janine for willingly having Rose with me. Janine though scared had loved me, had given into the temptation of us. But fear was what took her from me.

But Janine was back now, and I had her. It was hard to be happy with her when we both longed to get back what he had taken from us. From the close nit family we had formed with those who lived and worked around us. Now it was not just us affected.

The Dragomirs had lost Lissa a year after the four had been taken. They had made the mistake of letting her leave on a trip to New York. She had been broken, and quiet since her best friend and boyfriend had been ripped away from her life. They thought the trip would help, but instead it ended with her being captured. She too like the others disappeared without a trace.

Then Sydney was taken. No one knew why at first until it was found out that she had been in love with Adrian. She had tried with all her might to hide it, since her father would have never allowed it. But it had become too much. She left to find him and instead ended up captured as well. All six were now gone without a trace. Well that was until recently.

My Janine and Eddie had been taken, and I about nearly lost it. I had no idea how to make this all stop. Until I watched the security tapes and saw who had taken them. Clear as day I saw Adrian, Christian, Rose and Dimitri break in and out with both of them. They looked so much like they use to but so different. Each was determined, lethal. And it was clear as day none of them knew who they were or who they use to be.

Once again Mason came through. He refused this time, especially after seeing them to give up. I awoke with a re found determination. There was no way I was going to continue to let Victor take things from us, from me. Enough was enough.

"Mr. Mazur, may I have a word." I looked up and spotted Sydney's mother in my doorframe.

She had been coming in a lot more often now. She too was determined to get her daughter back. Only problem was she blamed me for what had happened. After all I had been the one to assign Adrian to Sydney. I had laughed at her accusation. I was not to blame for love. I had done nothing to push those two together. Fate had done that all on its own.

"Yes, of course come in." She looked around skeptical at first but closed the door behind her before sitting in the seat before my desk.

"Have you found anything?" She looked at me pleadingly and I almost felt bad disappointing her.

"No, I have not. I don't know if we can find anymore." I sighed deeply, I was just so tired.

"So what you mean is you have given up. You just do not care anymore." She stood up quickly the chair falling, reminding me of the time Rose had been in here mad at me too.

"I did not say that, I care but..." She cut me off and pointed a finger in my direction.

"Do not mess with me Abe. I know you have not been trying, I know you don't care. You have just been using all of us. Trying to get something out of all this." I stood now angry at her, how dare she?

"You think I'm so manipulative and scheming. Miss Sage? It's all for them. For my loved ones first. My people second. And yes, I suppose I'm in the mix there too but don't think for an instant I wouldn't sacrifice myself if it could save someone I love. And don't think for an instant that I wouldn't do terrible, unspeakable things if it could save someone I love." My chest was heaving when I was done. But I was not finished.

"I would and still will do anything to find those kids. Though they be adults now, they do not belong wherever they are. I will die trying to get them back if it is the last thing I do!" She took a step back and tears fell from her eyes.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I just... I just want my daughter back." I stepped forward and put a hand on her shoulder.

"I know we all want them back. I am trying, its just not easy." She nodded and smiled.

"I know, I just feel sometimes as if I am going crazy. I want her back, I don't even care about her loving that Adrian. If it makes her happy. I just want her back."

"Go home Miss Sage. Please get some rest. I swear I am working to get them. I just, its not easy." She nodded again but soon left. I fell to my chair once again overwhelmed.

"Abe!" I was startled out of my thoughts as Mason walked in looking paler than usual. His freckles standing out even more so than normal.

"Is everything OK?" He shook his head no and took in a deep breath.

"Rose! Rose was outside. Her and the boys! They rode off though, I couldn't keep up!" I stood up quickly and his hand my shoulder stopped me. "They are long gone by now Abe. But Rose gave me an address to a hotel and a room number, she wanted me to go there. She also said they had something they needed to do, something before they could come back."

I grabbed my gun and said nothing as I headed out to my SUV. Mason was hot on my heels along with a few other guardians. I had to see what was there. I feared it being a trap but I was too worked up to not go. I doubted it was something from Victor. No he was a smart man, and so far had kept the four as far away as possible from Montana. The reason they came was to take something Victor had wanted.

Guns drawn we worked our way closer to the room door. With a count to three the door was kicked open and a female scream filled the room. I rushed in and the sight nearly made me weep. There on the bed was a rumpled looking Janine, with Eddie laying with his head on her lap. I dropped my gun and rushed towards her, tears filling both our eyes.

"My Janine." I held her closer and she hugged me tightly.

"Oh god Abe, Abe." She grabbed my face as if not believing I was before. My eyes drifted to Eddie as a groan left his lips.

"Did he hurt you?" She shook her head no but I knew better.

"Really Abe he just kept us in a room drugged up. He was busy with something else. But we got out just in time." She looked around confused. "Where are we?"

"They brought you here." Mason stepped forward looking over his mother.

"Who?" Mason gave her a small smile and looked around the room. There lay a few bottles of soda cans. A sweater forgotten, and cartons of food.

"Adrian. Christian. Dimitri." She sighed loudly closing his eyes. "Rose."

Janine looked around and burst into tears as if she was remembering something. I picked her frail body up and went to the car. She needed rest, and love. Nothing was going to make her feel better now. It was as if we had finally found them, but they were unreachable. I lay Janine in our bed thirty minutes later. Eddie went into this own room as I went to seek out Mason.

"Why would they give them back to us?" I had entered the living room where Mason sat on the couch head in his hands, he was good enough to sense me without even looking back.

"Memories." I sat down next to him and he looked up.

"What?" I sighed and sat back leaning my head against the couch.

"Remember how your mother said she eventually got her memory back?" I waited for him to nod before I continued. "It may be happening with them. I saw them in those tapes Yes, they had no idea who we were, but they hesitated. I saw the way they looked at certain people. They are remembering. But something tells me they are not coming back like how your mother did."

"And why the fuck not." Mason stood quickly and started pacing before me. I just took him in and closed my eyes.

"They lost too much Mason. You think they are going to let Victor go without making him pay." He gasped and walked closer to me.

"Revenge? No, that would be cruel, deadly."

"They aren't the same people they use to be Mason. You said it yourself, Rose told you they had something to do before they could come back." Realization hit him and he sat down next to me again.

"So we have to wait even longer." I sighed but nodded. I hated the thought of stopping, but they had to do what they had to do now.

We now knew they were alive. Probably not so well, but alive. And in all honesty for now that was good enough for me. They had shown what side they were gravitating to by giving us Janine and Eddie back. Now it was just a matter of waiting. Something I was not very good at. I laughed looking at Mason, he was the same way. He got that from his mother.

"Someone was in the cabin." Olena walked in wide eyed. She stood before me a look of fear in her brown eyes.

Just like everyone else she had not taken it well when her only son, soon to be daughter in law and baby had been taken. If I thought I had been bad, she had been worse. To this day she went over to their small cabin and cleaned it. Nothing had been moved, but she made sure it stayed the same. She like me hoped they would come back, and that they would be able to resume the lives they deserved.

"It was them." I sat up quickly.

"What do you mean them?" She looked to Mason but he again put his head in his hands. "Answer me. They did not touch anything, but they took one thing Abe."

"What did they take?" I looked at her interest now peaking in me.

"They took a picture that was in the baby's room. The picture of them, right before, right before." She could not finish the sentence. But I knew what picture she was talking about, it was the same one that sat upon my desk at work.

My mind remembered the day it was taken. It was a few weeks before they had been taken. We had a Bbq at the Dragomirs place. They had been so happy. I smiled remembering how Lissa had insisted on the picture. She had positioned them and all and snapped away happily. A week later I had been gifted with the picture, it was gorgeous and made me so very happy.

It was then that I knew why they would take that picture. It truly held everything they had lost. It broke my heart. I wished more than ever that I could be there for them. To show them that they were going to be fine. That not everything had been lost. They knew, and they were now on a rampage for revenge, I could not help but smile. I now knew Victor was going to get what was coming to him.

"Babushka!" A high pitched voice echoed through the house as a small boy threw himself into Olena's arms.

"Oh my little boy. How have you been?" Olena's face shifted to love and adoration for the small boy, he had been our light at the end of the tunnel for so long.

"Good, but I no gets candy." He lisped just a little as his tongue got caught where he was missing a tooth.

"Candy is bad for you little boy." He scowled at me but extended his arms so I could hold him.

"Baba-baba. But you promised." His brown eyes met mine and I had to hold back the tears that threatened to spill over.

He looked so much like them. The perfect combination of all their greatest features. His eyes matched his father's to perfection, eyes that matched that entire side of the family. His hair like hers, and her side of the family. His father's personality, with his mother's mischef. He was absolutely gorgeous, and the main reason I needed them to come back.

Flashback

"Leave me alone." Another one of the guardians had tried to come into my room to give me food, but I did not want it.

I wanted my daughter back. I needed those four back. I refused to admit defeat, but it was starting to look like I would never be able to find them. No matter how hard I tried, it was always the same ending. They were gone and it seemed as if they were never going to come back. I had lost them, and it was all my fault.

"Sir?" I looked up rage filling me as another person entered my room.

"I said get the fuck out, leave me alone!" He flinched a bit but stepped closer, determination in his eyes.

"But sir, there's something here you need to see." His eyes pleaded with me and I finally broke. If he was brave enough to face me at my worse I would go see what he wanted.

He took me to my office and cautiously opened the door. Inside was another guardian with a bundle of blankets in his arms. I would have laughed at the large man cooing whatever was in his arms, but I was too curious. Too confused.

"What is that?" He looked up from the bundle a sad smile on his lips.

The other man handed me a letter and I snatched it quickly. I knew the handwriting and feared what it would say. I was not at all prepared for its contents. I was happy, but yet so incredibly angry and sad.

Ibrahim,

You may be curious as to why I would even send you this. Let it be known I had plans for it, but I decided to show just a smudge of mercy. After 16 long hours your daughter gave birth to this thing. She pleaded with me to save it, to let it go. I normally do not let anyone convince me of anything other than what I want, but she made me a deal I could not resist.

You may have your daughter's baby, but be sure you will never have its mother or father. In order for it to remain alive, I must remain in control of them. They more than willingly gave themselves up for the life of that thing. Keep it close Ibrahim, some day I may come after it too.

Ivan. They wanted it to be called Ivan. And be happy I even let you know that.

Sincerely,

Victor Dashkov.
