Anna got changed and locked herself up on the gym floor as soon as she got back to the tower. Pulling her hair into a tight pony tail she turned one of the treadmills up to its highest setting. She ran. And ran. And ran until the sun had set in the distance.

"Miss Anna. You've been on the treadmill for 6 hours now." JARVIS said softly. "Perhaps it would be wise to rest?"

"Sure." Anna sighed. Stepping off of the machine she wiped her sweat covered forehead with the back of her hand. She walked to the center of the room and laid down on her back. She was sweating and painting but barely tired after her excessive work-out. "God damn it."

"What's wrong, Miss Anna?" JARVIS asked. "Your stress levels are especially high. Would you like me to notify your parents or-"

"No JARVIS. I'm fine." Anna scowled, staring up at the ceiling. "I get enough damn therapy as it is from Dr. Sanchez I don't need you 'helping' me too."

The AI was quiet after that.

Anna walked back to the treadmill and started running again, not noticing the sunrise. She kept running as her muscles ached and she was gasping for air.

"Alright, Anna that's enough." A voice said, startling her. Anna jumped off the treadmill to see Steve standing behind her.

"I could go for a couple more miles." Anna shrugged. "Easy."

"Your mother and I thought you'd locked yourself in your bedroom. That was until JARVIS called me in here." Steve frowned. "He's worried about you."

"…Traitor." Anna glared towards the ceiling.

"Anna, we're worried too. How long've you been running?"

"All night." Anna shrugged. "And a little before then."

"All night?" Steve's eyes widened. "Anna you're gonna kill yourself doing that-"

"Funny thing is. I'm not." Anna glared, grabbing her water bottle off of the ground.

"What?"

"I'm barely even tired." Anna said angrily. "I wasn't kidding. I could easily keep going. I've been running all night and I'm fine. It's not fair."

"Anna what are you-"

"Do you realize that I've never been normal?" Anna shouted. "I was this… pathetic little thing that all of you had to protect and now I'm just some sort of freak!"

"You're not a freak, Anna-" Steve said softly.

"Of course you would feel that way. You volunteered for this shit!" Anna threw the bottle at the wall.

"Anna-"

"This is all your fault." Anna murmured

"Excuse me?"

"You gave me this. You made me like this." Anna dug her nails into her palms. "I'm a target because of you. You didn't even think about that did you?"

"Of course we did! Anna we spent those years protecting you as best we could-"

"Well you failed." Anna said bitterly. "Selfish… Mr. and Mrs. Perfect wanting to have their perfect baby-"

"In what way have our lives been perfect?" Steve was losing his temper, something he almost never did with Anna. "Have you thought about how many times we almost didn't come home to you? The number of times we almost lost you during those serum attacks? You died in my arms, Anna. You will never understand how painful that was. Nothing about our lives is perfect!"

"Maybe if you'd thought about all of that happening before you had me-"

"What are you saying we should've done?" Steve said angrily. The look in Anna's eyes gave him his answer. His face fell. "Do you wish we'd aborted you? That we'd never even had you in the first place?"

"What?" Anna and Steve turned to see Natasha standing in the doorway. Clint was standing behind her, staring in shock. Anna ignored everyone around her, turning to leave through the side door.

"Anna wait." Steve hurried towards her, grabbing her shoulder. He saw a flash of blonde before landing on the ground face first with a hard thud and a harsh pain in his forehead.

"Anna!" Natasha said in shock. Steve looked up with blurry vision. Anna stood over him in a fighting stance. Her eyes widened, realizing what she'd done. Without a word she turned, sprinting out of the room.

"She really clocked me, huh?" Steve winced as Bruce pressed disinfectant to the thin cut Anna had left above his eyebrow.

"I can't believe she punched you." Bruce shook his head. "Not like her-"

"She didn't punch him." Natasha said, frowning. "She used his knee as leverage and spun to kick him in the face. Flawlessly I might add."

"What are you trying to say?" Bruce asked, sitting down.

"That kind of attack isn't one a 17 year old girl just knows. It's one you learn from professional training." Clint said as Tony, Pepper and Bucky walked into the med-bay.

"Anna lied when she said they didn't train her." Natasha frowned.

"Where is she now?" Steve sat up.

"No idea." Tony shrugged. "We searched every nook and cranny of this tower. Can't find her anywhere."

"Miss Anna is no longer in the tower, sir." JARVIS said.

"What?" Steve and Natasha both said anxiously.

"She left approximately 1 hour ago. Requested I not tell you sir."

"And you listened to her?" Tony shouted.

"We've got to find her before she does something.…" Natasha frowned.

"Something like what?" Clint asked as the team hurried out of the room.

"You remember what I was like when I got out of the Room." Natasha said grimly. Clint's eyes widened and he and Natasha broke into a run.

The Avengers, Pepper and Bucky split up into teams and searched everywhere they could think Anna would be. "How do we knew she's even in New York?" Clint said into his phone as he drove along Broadway. "She could've caught a bus or something."

"Where would she go, Clint? She's never been anywhere else other than Paris and Russia." Pepper looked around anxiously, walking through central park with Tony. She looked carefully at every blonde girl they passed.

"She still won't pick up her phone or comm." Steve said nervously. "Come on, Anna… Where are you?"

"We've checked every hospital, clinic, shelter and police station. No one's seen her." Natasha and Steve stood on a sidewalk downtown, hardly even caring if anyone recognized them.

"We need to call SHIELD. They've got satellites for this kind of stuff right?" Bruce sighed, walking with Bucky on a street in Brooklyn.

"If we call SHIELD they'll notify the council. They already think she's a liability to us, we don't want them getting involved.

"Fine then. Thor's 'all-seeing' guy should find her-"

"I thought of that but Thor's in Asgard." Natasha sighed. "We can't get a hold of him."

"What good's Heimdall if we can't ever use the guy?" Tony complained.

They for hours and hours and found no sign of Anna. It took another hour for Steve to convince Natasha to come back to the tower. "She's out there somewhere, Rogers."

"I know. And we're gonna find her." Steve wrapped his arm around Natasha as they walked through the tower doors. Everyone had gone to bed with the promise of searching again tomorrow. Without even turning the lights on to change Natasha collapsed backwards onto her bed with a loud sigh.

"Ow!" She sat up quickly at the sound of a small voice.

"Anna!" Natasha gasped. Anna sat up in her parents bed, her eyes tired. Natasha tightly wrapped herself around Anna. "Steve get in here!"

"What is- Thank god." Steve rushed into the room, joining Natasha's embrace around the young girl. Anna returned their hugs just as tightly.

"I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry." She said weakly, pushing herself away, curling into a ball. Steve took his daughter's face between his hands.

"Where have you been?" Steve's voice cracked slightly.

"I… I don't… I'm sorry Dad oh god I'm sorry." Anna's words broke sobbing and she collapsed into Steve's arms.

"Shhh. It's okay." Steve ran his hands through Anna's curls, pulling her into his lap. Her body shook as messy tears trailed down her cheeks. Steve and Natasha's comforts were barely audible over her heavy sobs. "It's okay. You're gonna be okay."

Bit of a shorter chapter but filled with enough angst to fill an ocean.
