Chapter 20: I Actually Have Plans This Year

Carol walked out of the Mansion's cafeteria, a steaming cup of coffee in her hand, as she headed to the main lounge, tired from the team's early morning mission and needing a fresh surge of caffeine-induced energy to help her get through the day. She had really expected to just sleep in late (late for her, at least) and wait for the day to roll and night to come. Every year, on this specific day, for the last few years her nights usually involved her staying in her apartment watching movies and eating her favorite flavor of pudding; having a tough love life could do that to someone. Sometimes, Jess would spend the evening with her to give her some company.

But this year it was different. This year, she somehow knew, would just be the best yet.

Arriving at the lounge, she sat on of the large comfortable chairs, taking out her iPhone and searching something as she sipped her coffee, relishing the taste of the drink.

A few minutes later, Clint Barton, codename: Hawkeye entered the room and made a beeline for her. "Hey, Carol, I need a favor to ask; I'm taking Bobbi somewhere tonight, and I need you to cover my shift on monitor duty. You know, since you're usually never doing anything this time of the year."

"True, yeah, but I can't; sorry Clint. I actually have plans this year."

"…you're serious?"

"Yep."

"Did you lose a bet? Stark made you bet, didn't he?"

"Wouldn't that make Pepper kill him? Clint, seriously, it's not that hard to figure it out."

"Oh my god," Bobbi said as she came in, having overheard the two talking; she knew. "Really, Carol, he did it?"

"Oh yeah," Carol said sheepishly as she felt her face redden ever so slightly.

"Wait…what's going on?" Clint asked, completely clueless.

"Carol, can you do me a favor?" Tony asked as he came up across Carol in the hallways, both waking to the cafeteria/kitchen.

"Sure, Stark, what's up?" Carol replied.

"Well, since it's Valentine's Day, I'm going to be giving Pepper a night to remember, so I was wondering if you could cover my-?"

"I'll tell you the same thing I told Hawkeye-I already have plans so no can do."

"Yeah…you have plans this year," Stark chuckled, amused by the notion. He turned to look at the Avenger, only to see her very serious and slightly ticked off face staring back at him. "Oh wait, you're serious? You seriously have something to do tonight?"

"Is that so hard to believe, Stark?" Carol said as she rolled her eyes. "Anyone can get a lucky night on Valentine's Day."

"But it's you. You act like you hate guys, and sometimes I think you do, and the only guys you actually can stand for more than five minutes are either married, a 200+ year old killing machine and….oh…" Stark said with an amused smile. "It appears the world really is coming to an-wait…crap…"

"What?"

"Now I owe Steve 100 bucks."

"…you BET on us?!"

"If it makes you feel any better, a lot of the team did," Stark said as he walked on, leaving Carol standing with a confused an angry look in the hallway.

"So what are you and Jessica doing tonight?" Carol asked as the two oversaw the police taking away the thugs who had tried to rob the bank.

"Well, she's always pining for this fancy restaurant over on the Upper West Side, and she barely ever gets to go, so I figure, why not surprise her and take her there?" Cage replied.

"The one on 6th and Park? Nice choice, very nice-good food; I went there once a few years back. Guy was a jackass."

"You say that about a lot of guys."

"Most of the good ones are taken or married," she smirked at him

"While I appreciate the compliment," Cage smirked in return, "I think we can make an exception-or rather, you can make an exception about a certain blabbermouth."

"I have no idea what you're talking about," Carol replied, but her slight blush gave her away.

"Really? So if I asked you to watch Danielle while Jessica and I-?"

"Sorry, have plans," Carol responded, a bit too quickly.

"Figured," Cage smiled. "Hope it goes well for you guys."

"Carol, I need a favor from you," Cap said as he walked up to where Carol was mercilessly pummeling another punching back. He walked over and held the bag in place, allowing the Avenger to land hits with more precision.

"Shoot."

"Sharon and I are doing something tonight for Valentine's Day, and I was wondering if you could cover my-?"

"Sorry, can't."

"Why?" Cap smirked. "Reruns of an old favorite?"

"Nope; because Stark owes you a hundred dollars."

That made the super soldier a tad bit confused. "Stark owes me $100?"

"Apparently, and it seems you actually agreed to it, soldier," Carol replied with a hint of accusation.

"I think I would remember if I bet $100 with Stark on…oh," Steve realized as he again looked at the woman before him. "Ok, I remember."

"And where those $100 worth it?" Carol asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Well, since it seems that Stark is now paying for tonight, then I'd say yes," Steve smiled as he left the gym.

Logan entered the room, beer in hand, and leaned against the couch that Carol was lying down on, reading a book. "Carol I need a favor."

"If it's about covering for you for something so you can enjoy Valentine's tonight with whoever it is, I can't I have plans," Carol answered without fail, keeping her eyes on her book.

Logan stared at her for a good 20 seconds. "Huh…little nuisance finally grew a pair," he mumbled with a smirk as he then left the room.

"Ok, Carol," Jess said as she sat down in front of her best friend. "Another year has come and gone, and again you're alone."

"What do you mean?" Carol asked.

"Duh, it's Valentine's Day again; remember, that one evening of the year where it's just you, your movies and your pudding?"

"Oh yeah, about that-"

"Well, fear not, Carol, because you're best friend is here to again keep you company as you remember failed loves and stuff yourself with that chocolate goodness. You better have enough for me."

"Um, yeah, Jess?"

"Yes?"

"I…actually have plans this year."

"…what?"

"I have plans for tonight with someone." Carol, once more, slightly blushed.

Jessica stared at her for a good minute before her mouth broke into an enormous grin. "He finally did it?! After both of you dancing around each other for months, he finally did it?!"

"Well…yeah, he did." Her smile was luminous.

"OH MY GOD, THAT IS BLOODY AMAZING!" Jess squealed as she embraced her best friend. "Finally, it's about time, it's been hell watching you both-wait a minute…now what am I going to do tonight?!"

"Yeah…that's what I was trying to tell you…"

"So you get to be happy at the expense of my night?" Jessica looked to the sky in thought. "Eh, it's worth it, I guess."

Carol, in full Ms. Marvel attire, stood against the wall of the outside of Avengers Mansion, waiting for him to show up. He hadn't been at the Mansion all day, but he promised to come for her around sunset. Now, Carol waited patiently for her date to arrive, watching the majestic sunset as its light bathed the Mansion grounds. She didn't know it, but it made her already beautiful figure and hair even more glowing and desirable.

Suddenly, a man in a Spider-themed suit descended in front of her via a web line, his mask pulled up to his nose, revealing his trademark nerdy grin that Carol had grown to love. She smiled even brighter upon seeing his upside down form dangle in front of her.

"Excuse me, miss, but have you see a gorgeous blonde woman who can throw people into space anywhere around here?"

Carol slightly blushed again at his calling her gorgeous. "Hmm, sorry I think you just missed her. Luckily," she said with a seductive voice as she stepped closer to him and placed her gloved finger on his lips, "I'm just standing here doing nothing if you have a nice night planned."

"Well, I think that'll work," Peter smiled as he jumped onto the ground and was enveloped by Carol's embrace, him returning it in full and with extra as his lips found hers. Upon the contact, Carol was bombarded by a passion she hadn't felt in the longest time and was slowly becoming accustomed to once more, relishing the sensations Peter's lips gave her. Peter, meanwhile was also experiencing his own passion and enjoying it as well, devouring the feeling the woman he was kissing gave him when they locked lips-like everything was better again in his world, and a deep passion unfelt since college was rekindled.

"So…where are we going tonight?" Carol said with less breath than usual as they parted lips.

"Well, I found out about this restaurant on Park you love so much-"

"Michelangelo's?"

"That's the one."

"Peter Parker, I think I'm in love with you."

"And Jessica told me about your previous Valentine's tradition."

"Dammit," Carol sighed. "You probably think it's stupid."

"Actually…after dinner, how about we do just that? I'll even bring the pudding."

Carol looked the Webhead dead in the eye before kissing him senseless.

"I take it that's a yes?"

"I like chocolate, especially milk chocolate."

"Yes, it is."
