Hey, guys! I'm back! Sooner that you thought, huh? Well, I was bored and I thought I'd get off my lazy butt and write for you guys! So now you have a whole new chapter! Yay! Ok, on to it.
No
Coral's POV
Max snapped her fingers in front of my face, but I didn't care. She meant nothing to me. I knew who she was. I knew what we had been through. I knew what she used to mean to me. I hadn't forgotten. I just didn't care. It didn't seem distant or fuzzy or off. I was perfectly conscious and functioning. My mind was sharp and my senses were tuned. But Max, the flock, my friends... Seemed unimportant to me. The events insignificant. Meaningless. Just another pointless endeavor. I turned to her and shook my head.
"Stop trying. I'm not being mind controlled. I am perfectly happy in this state. In fact, it's not all that different from before, just without being bound by you and the others. It was all insignificant anyways. None of it mattered."
She grumbled angrily. "This isn't you. This is some Itex robot girl I don't know."
"I'm perfectly okay with that assumption."
Max pulled against her chains, testing the strength. I knew she could not break them. I could. I could call for someone to get us, and they would unlock the chains and lead us to the lab for exercise. We could escape then. But I couldn't be bothered. I honestly did not want to run. Actually, I liked it here. It was warm and cozy and if I want anything, the whitecoats give it to me. I know exactly what to expect all the time and its easy. They like me. I cooperate, I get what I want. Simple.
Max's POV
Coral is driving me crazy. She is all focused on one word. To me, all she has been saying is no.
"We need to escape."
"No."
"Lets figure out a plan."
"No."
"Do you even want to escape?"
"No."
Its insane. Its like she's a whole different person. I know we'll get out eventually. I'll figure it out... but, jeez, its hard to the concentrate with that emotionless rock sitting next to me. I really wish she would snap out of it and help me figure something out already.
The door creaked open and a woman in a white coat stepped in. Her eyes were chocolate brown and she had a certain air of grace about her. Her hair fell in perfect ringlets down her back in a cascade of red. Yeah. Red. Have I ever mentioned that I dont particularly like attractive girls with red hair?
"Hello, girls. Coral has taken well to her new home I see. You, Miss Maximum, I can see will be a problem. Its a shame. You're the guest of honor. I dont suppose you'd like some fresh air?"
I snarled at her. "Whats the catch, Red?"
'Cause I just know there's going to be one.
"No catch. Just you, me, and your friend here out take a walk. No chains, no erasers, no tests. As long as you dont try to escape. Mind you, we do take precaitions. The whole area is surrounded by a special wire dome. I advise yoy not to touch it. Now, would you take me up on my offer?"
I was going to refuse, but I wanted to get a look at the area. "Fine."
Coral looked up. "I think I'll stay here."
"Alright then, its just you and me, Max."
She pulled a key from her pocket and unlocked my chains. I stood up and followed her out the door. The first thing I noticed was the rows and rows of sheds, each looking much like the one we came out of, but with a different label on the door. Ours said "Maximum and Coral: considered dangerous. Enter with caution."
Heck yeah, I'm dangerous.
"So, Max. I assume you are curious about your friend's behavior, right?"
"Right..." I answer cautiously.
"Well, you see, we are testing a new drug. It causes the subject to loose connection or feeling toward any particular thing. It is helpful, I admit, but it does have some kinks to be worked out. Fortunately, though, in this case it works to our advantage."
"And?"
"When the drug wears off," she begins, "The subject has highly unusual behavior. They typically don't remember much, and they experience dramatic mood swings. From violent anger to severe depression, mostly. It isn't pretty. But if we keep the subject on a steady supply of the drug, they function just fine. So that means, if you decide to take your friend and try anything funny, I can see you having a difficult time with her in the future. She is happy with the drug. Without... Well you get the picture."
I grumbled angrily. This was not going as planned. Maybe she was just trying to keep me here. I don't know. I just really hope she is, because I was getting us out of here regardless. And I think I already had a plan.
Hope you enjoyed it! Review please!
