It wasn't until years later that Rex and Natalie found out by chance that Rex was Clint's son from an affair with a woman named Echo DeSavoy.
And that another woman named Allison Perkins had switched babies. Roxy's real son Schuyler had died.
Echo who had been made to believe that the dead child was hers; had a mental breakdown, and was now catatonic in a hospital in Mass.

It hadn't been easy for Rex or the Buchanan family after finding out that news; but eventually they moved past it.
Rex didn't want to meet Clint; especially after how Clint reacted to the news.

Clint had called ranting and raving; saying that there was no way that Rex was his son.
When asked to come for a DNA test, he'd refused. So Asa had found another way.

Asa had hired a PI to find Clint; break into his lodging and take a DNA sample. And the man he'd hired had done just that.
The Private investigator had found Clint in Egypt. He'd snuck in while Clint was asleep; and had gotten the sample.
Once the sample was in Llanview, they ran the test. It proved that Rex was indeed Clint's son.

After finding out about the PI as well as the test, Clint had then tried to extract revenge for it.

Rex, Asa and Bo had gotten word of a call Clint had made to the hospital where Echo was. They had been informed that Clint had ordered the hospital to have Miss De Savoy ready for transport to another facility.
Thankfully the trio had countered Clint's move.

Then Viki's thought turned to how she and Ben had met Thomas and Eve McBain.

LPD annual BBQ -
LPD parking lot -
4th of July:
Viki and Ben had come to the bbq as guests of Bo, who wanted to introduce them to a new couple in town.
Viki and Ben were sitting with Rachel, when Bo walked up with a friendly looking couple.
"Viki, Ben". "I would like to introduce you to Thomas and Eve McBain". "Thomas is a retired police officer". "Eve is a well known singer", Bo said.
"Good to meet you Thomas, Eve"; Ben said. "Would you like to join us"?
"It would be a pleasure", Eve answered. They then sat their lawn chairs down and got comfortable.
"You're "The Eve McBain", Viki said finally.
"Yes, I am", Eve said; although "I don't tour or perform as often anymore".

And as it turned out, Viki and Ben had become good friends with Thomas and Eve.
Eve was someone that Viki could talk to about her concerns for Natalie; as well as just someone a friend could turn to.

And what Matthew and the twins didn't know was that Viki and Eve planned to play matchmaker as well.
Home of Michael and Marcie:
"I think my mom is plotting", Michael told his wife.
"How so", Marcie asked?
"She's planning to play matchmaker; and I think she's got Mrs. Davidson helping her", Michael said.
"Who do they plan to match", Marcie asked?
"John and Natalie", Michael said.
"Well anyone would be better than Marty", Marcie said.
"So true", Michael said; "so true". "And I think Natalie might be good for John".
Indianapolis, IN:
As Natalie was lying in bed, she went back to what happened after the girls called 9 -1-1

Cedar-Sinai Hospital -
Rm: 304
Natalie had been admitted. Her injuries we as follows:
Concussion, broken ribs, cuts and scrapes, gash on her forehead, broken wrist, broken fingers, and bruises everywhere.
"Mommy", Calleigh whispered?
"Girls", Natalie said as she saw them, as well as Lindsay and Casey?
"We're here mommy", Cayleigh said.

Then she saw Nash and Kate.
"Girls, why don't we head down to the cafeteria", Kate said before leading the girls out.
"Oh Sparky", Nash said. "How long has this been going on"?
"Since before the girls were born", Natalie admitted.
"I'll kill him", Lindsay said.
"No; we're going to do this the legal way", Nash said being the voice of reason.
'I need to hire an attorney; then file for divorce", Natalie said. "He locked the girls in their rooms".
"I have a lawyer friend", Lindsay said. 'I'll call him".

"Hello", Danie said. "Shoemaucker, Floyd and Grace LLP".
"Danie, its Lindsay Boxer". "Can I talk to Kris"?
"Yeah; he's right here", Danie said before handing Kris the phone.
"Lindsay", Kris said.
"I need a favor Kris", Lindsay said.
"What do you need Linds", Kris asked?
"Can you come down to Cedar-Sinai", Lindsay asked?
"Yeah; I can be there in an hour", Kris answered. "What room"?
"Room 304", Lindsay said then ended the call. "He's on his way".

"Casey, I need you to do me a favor", Natalie said.
"Anything Natalie", Casey said.
"I need you to go to BE; in my office taped to the back of the Golden Gate Bridge is a package". "I need it". "Tell Shelley you have my permission", Natalie said.
"I'm going now", Casey said.

1 hour later -
Knock Knock
"Come in", Natalie said.
Kris Shoemaucker walked in. "Lindsay", he said after a hug.
"Kris, I'd like you to meet Natalie Vega", Lindsay said.
"Is this the favor", Kris asked?
"Yes", Lindsay said.

"Okay Natalie, Tell me everything; leave nothing out", Kris said.

And so Natalie told him everything; he recorded it all. He was shocked by what she told him.
When she was done, he said:
"I'll take your case". "First thing I'm going to do is take today's photos to a judge and get you a restraining order", Kris said.
"Okay", Natalie said.
"Next, I am going to request a DNA test for the girls", Kris said.
"You got that too", Lindsay asked?
"Yes, and I am suspicious; especially knowing that Natalie is Asa Buchanan's granddaughter", Kris said.
"What", Natalie asked?
"You said that you and Cris had never had sex before you got married". "But yet, you were pregnant", Lindsay said. "It doesn't make sense".

3 hours later:
Kristopher had just walked back into Natalie's room.
"There is a restraining order in place as well as a warrant for his arrest", Kris stated.

"That was LAPD". "Cris is in custody". "They are taking a DNA sample as we speak", Kris said.
"Thank you Mr. Shoemaucker", Natalie said.
"You're quite welcome", Kris replied.

"Nash, I need to ask a favor of you and Kate", Natalie spoke.
"What Sparky", Nash asked?
"I need you to take the girls back to San Fran with you". "Until this is over, they are safer with you and Kate", Natalie said.
"Okay", Nash promised. "What about you"?
"I'm going to file for divorce; call in a favor, then pack up and take the girls back hoe to Llanview", Natalie said.

Kris had just finished with his side of the divorce hearing. The documented abuse had spoken volumes.
The DNA results had proven that Cris wasn't the father of the twins. But it also opened up another can of worms.
The judge had asked Cris about that; but Cris wasn't talking. The judge then asked to speak to Evangeline; who he'd asked the same question. And he had gotten the same answer, nothing.

Indianapolis:
Today was going to be a fun day. Natalie was taking the girls to The World Skating Academy.

And the girls had had a huge blast as well as getting a promise from Natalie. She had promised the girls that she would sign them up for classes when they got home to Llanview.
Llanview:
"How is the tracking coming", Bo asked as he and Tomas walked into the room?
"Slow going sir". "Wherever he is, he is using cash, and most likely a different name", Spinelli told them just as Asa walked in.
"Phone call for you sir", Nigel said.
"Thanks", Asa said before hitting the speaker button. He knew it was Clint.
"Hello", Asa said?
"Pa", Clint said. "How are you"? Like he really cared.
"I'm fine". "Busy; we're still trying to find out why we're having problems with the accounts". "Natalie told us she's looking from her end too", Asa lied.

The group waited to see what he'd tell them next.
…
"I really need access to my account". "I need the money". "I'm in trouble dad", Clint lied.
"What kind of trouble", Asa asked?
"I owe back taxes, and they have to be paid", Clint lied again.
…
"Let me see what I can do". "Call me back in an hour", Asa told Clint.
"Okay", Clint said before hanging up.
…
"He lied Mr. Buchanan". "He no more owes back taxes than Mighty Mouse does", Spinelli said.
"I thought so; he's up to something", Asa said.
"What are you going to tell him Pa", Bo asked just as the phone rang.
…
"Clint", Asa said?
"Yeah Pa", Clint said.
"Clint, it's just not possible". "The bank will not allow access to any of the accounts until we get this problem resolved". "I'm using all I have to pay our employees", Asa said.
…
"Damn it dad; but you'd make it happen for Bo, Renee or any one of the grandkids; but not for me", Clint Yelled!
"Don't you mouth of to me Clint Buchanan"! "I'm your father, and I taught you to respect your elders", Asa admonished.
"Well, I have to find another way to get the funds", Clint said. "Thanks for nothing he said hanging up".
Indianapolis:
Next day -
"Where are we going mom", the girls asked after breakfast?
"We are going to Caribbean Cafe", Natalie answered.
"COOL", both girls shouted!

They had a huge blast at Caribbean Café.
Natalie had been memorializing this trip with photos. She would do scrapbooks when they got home.
Llanview:

As John sat in his office, he was taken back to his troubled marriage to Marty.
flashback:
In the beginning everything was good. Then they got married. And within weeks, things started to be strained between the two.
Marty complained because he was gone all the time; but when he was home, she'd want to host parties with everyone else always there.
Then there was the drinking. Every Friday night she'd go and get plastered.
After a year of all that plus her cheating; John had finally had enough. He told her to choose:
Hi or the party life.
She said she chose him. But what would happen two weeks later would be the end of their marriage.

He'd come home from Boston to find her and his best friend in their bed in their home.
He'd filed for divorce the next day and then had moved out.

6 am -
The van was packed. As soon as they had breakfast, they'd hit the road.
Natalie thought they were making good time. Natalie had needed this trip as well.
"Ready", Natalie asked?
"Let's go", Calleigh said from her seat.
and off they went -

They were at the halfway point between Indianapolis and Columbus, OH when she saw something on the side of the read.
She pulled over ahead of it; and then walked back. What she found would piss her off.
In the ditch half under water was a clear plastic bin; when she pulled the bin out, she found a wet Jack Russell terrier and 3 pups.
The mama didn't have any tags; Natalie knew she couldn't leave them. So she carried the bin back to the van.

She and the girls had dried them off. Natalie then laid a blanket on the floor in the front wheel well. She then started the van to keep everyone cool while she asked her Navigation system for the nearest vet.
It said the closet one was Banfield Pet Hospital in the Dayton Mall; in Dayton, OH.
Natalie then asked for directions and headed there.
