Chapter 20 Part 1
Carlisle's POV
Esme and I sat downstairs checking our emails and giving Edward and Bella some privacy. I knew we would have to talk soon; he needed to know what happened, the reasons why they happened and what he did wrong. I sighed and glanced up to the ceiling wondering what was going on, they were awfully quiet.
As I stretched out on the sofa, I suddenly heard Bella shouting at Edward 'You what?!' she yelled. I immediately jumped out of my seat and was about to go upstairs when Esme grasped my arm.
'Leave them Carlisle, they'll work it out themselves' Esme whispered to me.
Reluctantly, I pulled away from the stairs and retook my seat with a sigh. After about five more minutes of awkward silence, I heard Bella scream Edward's name and I jumped up and walked cautiously towards the stairs, wondering if I should interfere. As I reached the top, I could no longer smell Edward's scent and I burst through the door to find Bella having a panic attack...

Chapter 20 Part 2
Carlisle's POV
As I burst into the room I saw Bella lying rigid in bed. She was shaking quite severely and beads of sweat were apparent on her forehead. She had a terrified look on her face and her breathing was fast and shallow, like she was struggling for breath. She didn't seem to notice me enter the room and she seemed fixated by the open window.
I looked around for Edward but couldn't see him anywhere, the pieces finally fell into place and I realised what had happened. Edward had run away. Immediately I went into doctor mode and flitted to the side of the bed. I picked Bella up effortlessly and carried her to mine and Esme's room. Bella started to scream and writhe around in my arms, terrified by the sudden movement. I managed to hold down her arms to prevent her from hurting herself on my marble skin. Walking out of Edward's room, I saw Esme standing in the hall; as she saw Bella she gasped and put her hands up to her face. Grimacing, I strode into our bedroom and laid Bella on our large bed. She continued to scream but she wasn't struggling as violently anymore.
I tried to sit near Bella to comfort her until the panic passed but it did no good, she just started screaming even louder and kicking out at me.
'Bella! Bella calm down. It's me, Carlisle.' I tried desperately.
Bella didn't respond, she just couldn't snap out of her trance and I knew I had to calm her down with medicine.
'Esme' I called 'Please could you come in here and hold Bella still?'.
Esme flitted into the room and took Bella in her lap, holding her arms down by her sides as I pulled my doctors bag out of the wardrobe. I retrieved a syringe and a small vile of a medicine that would make her calm and drowsy. As I filled the syringe and turned to face Bella, she immediately started to get worse and was fighting against Esme with every ounce of strength she could muster. I moved quickly and grabbed her wrist, steadying her arm before injecting the fluid into her vein.
Bella froze for about 10 seconds before starting to calm down and in about a minute she was almost unconscious. I took her from Esme, whispering words of comfort as I lowered her into the bed and pulled the covers over her. I stroked back some hair from her face and Esme planted a motherly kiss on her forehead. We then both exited the room leaving our drowsy human daughter to sleep.
I would most definitely need words with Edward, more now than ever...
