It was Thursday and the girls had school. They got up and dressed before starting to pack their bag. Lucy noticed that she had PE and sighed. She might be able to convince her mum to write her a letter. She stumbled down the stairs.
"Mum, my knee is really sore" Lucy said technically she wasn't lying her knee was hurting but just not that badly.
"Let me have a look" Zoe said as she sat Lucy down on the stairs. She examined Lucy's leg.
"It's fine sweetie, just be careful and wear a support doing sports until Saturday" Zoe said and Lucy nodded.
"Do I have to do PE today? I don't want to hurt it anymore" Lucy said.
"Nice try but no you are doing PE" Zoe said and Lucy stormed up the stairs.
"What's wrong with her?" Eryn asked as she walked in.
"I don't know, she just made a massive fuss about doing PE" Zoe said.
"Oh, that's weird. Lucy loves PE" Eryn said and Zoe nodded.
"Maybe that knee really is giving her bother" Zoe said.
"Mum, don't give in. She doesn't even have to do anything in PE if she doesn't want to. Most girls just sit about anyway" Eryn explained.
"Okay, I'll just leave it" Zoe said.
They then got ready for school and soon the three of them were in the car driving off to school. They arrived at the school and both girls got out.
"Come on, Luc try not to give mum hassle in the morning" Eryn said and Lucy nodded.
"Sorry" Lucy said.
"It's okay" Eryn said pulling Lucy into a hug.
They soon split up and went to their separate classes. Soon Lucy had PE, she walked into the changing room and decided to get changed behind the curtain. She really didn't want people seeing her scar. She walked out and of course everyone had to say something.
"Why did you get changed behind there?" One asked and Lucy shrugged.
"She is probably on her period" Another said.
"No, I'm not. I haven't even started yet" Lucy said.
"What? You are so late but it's kind of obvious I suppose as you have absolutely no chest" Another said laughing. Lucy just turned around and walked out. Malia ran after her.
"Don't worry Lucy. I haven't started my periods either" Malia said " And I am 2 months older than you"
Lucy nodded but was still really embarrassed. They did PE and then had to get changed after. Lucy didn't want to anyone to say anything so she just got changed facing the wall praying no one noticed her scar.
They rest of the school day went quickly and soon Eryn and Lucy were walking to the hospital. Their mum was on late shift and Zoe wasn't keen on leaving the girls all night alone but Nick, Yvonne and Sophie had gone away to Spain. Zoe wished the girls weren't at school so she could just whizz them off like that. It was so much cheaper.
The girls arrived at the hospital and started to do their homework. They watched the TV for a bit and then Zoe came in.
"Girls in a bit go and have a shower. I'm away out on a call" Zoe said and the girls nodded before giving each other a look. Their mum never went out on call now.
They continued watching the TV and soon there was a rumour going around that their mum was stuck in a helicopter. Eryn went out to investigate.
"Rita, is it true about my mum" Eryn said and Rita nodded.
"Is she okay?" Eryn asked.
"I don't know sweetie" Rita said and Eryn nearly burst into tears.
"Sweetie, its okay" Rita said pulling Eryn into a hug "She's brave your mum but she loves you so wouldn't leave you"
Eryn nodded before pulling away from Rita.
She walked back to the staff room but Lucy wasn't there. Eryn wondered where her sister had gotten too. Soon Lucy came back, she had her school bag in her hand.
"What were you doing?" Eryn asked.
"I um went to the toilet and then got a sweet so I needed my purse" Lucy said.
"Why didn't you just take the purse" Eryn asked and Lucy shrugged her shoulder.
"I'm going to go and have a shower" Lucy said and Eryn nodded. Lucy took her school bag and her bag her mum brought them. She went to the shower room which was just next to the changing room. Lucy walked into the shower room. She pulled her shirt up and got the bottle out her bag. She grabbed a towel and drenched the towel in the liquid. She placed it on her stomach and it instantly started to burn. Tears slipped down her face.
Meanwhile, Eryn had noticed that her mum had put Lucy's jammie top in her bag so walked to the shower room and could hear moaning.
"Lucy, Lucy open the door" Eryn shouted.
"I can't it's too sore" Lucy cried.
"Lucy unlock the door" Eryn shouted getting worried. Lucy stepped forward and unlocked the door and still holding the towel on her stomach.
"What the hell" Eryn shouted. "Connie, Lily please help"
Connie and Lily came running into the room. Connie instantly pulled the towel from Lucy's hand and pulled her into the shower. She pulled the little girl onto her knee and made sure the water was hitting her stomach. Lucy was scrambling and screaming in pain.
"What is it?" Lily asked as she put her hand on Lucy's leg supportively.
"I think it's bleach or something" Connie said.
"Can you go and see if Zoe is back" Connie asked Eryn who nodded. She walked out the room and instantly noticed her mum. She ran up to her mum.
"Mum, quick it's Lucy" Eryn shouted. Zoe and Eryn both went running to the shower room.
"Oh Lucy" Zoe shouted as she flung herself onto the ground. Connie passed Lucy over to Zoe.
"What is it" Zoe asked.
"I think it's bleach" Connie said.
"You silly girl" Zoe said stroking Lucy's wet hair. Zoe started to take off Lucy's shirt as it was just getting in the way.
"Mum, no" Lucy said.
"Lucy, I need to get it off. It's just getting in the way and if we don't get it off you are going to damage your skin even more" Zoe said and Lucy relaxed a bit. Once they were sure it was all off Zoe carried Lucy into cubicles. She picked her up and Connie placed Lucy's shirt over her shoulder to cover up the girl a bit more. Connie and Lily then got on to work and Zoe carried Lucy into a cubicle.
"Oh Lucy Lou, what have you done?" Rita asked. Lucy didn't say anything.
Soon Connie came back into check on Lucy. Zoe had to get back to work so it just left Connie, Lucy and Eryn.
"So why did you do it?" Connie asked as she examined Lucy.
"I needed to get it away" Lucy said.
"You do now using bleach is just going to make it worse" Connie said.
"I thought it would make it disappear" Lucy said.
"Oh sweetie, it's tiny the scar" Connie said as she checked Lucy's stomach.
"Everyone at school knows about it though" Lucy said.
"So, it's something to be proud of. It must have been a tough operation if it's left a scar like that" Connie said.
"I was shot in the stomach" Lucy said quietly. "At school"
"You should be proud of yourself for surviving that" Connie said and Lucy just nodded.
"Well, you don't seem to have any problems so I'm just going to discharge you but I think you should speak to your mum" Connie said and Lucy nodded. Eryn sat feeling so helpless, why didn't her sister say anything to her earlier. She could have helped. Connie left and the girls went back to the staff room. They cuddled up on the sofa.
"Baby, why didn't you say anything to me" Eryn asked and Lucy just shrugged.
"I thought I could just get rid of it myself quickly" Lucy said.
"Oh baby" Eryn said pulling Lucy into her arms.
They heard the door open and both pulled away. They both stared at their mum.
"Girls, I have decided to step down as clinical lead and just be a consultant" Zoe said.
"Why?" Eryn said.
"Because I feel that everything is just getting too much and I don't want things to go back to how they used to be" Zoe said and both girls nodded. Zoe snuggled down between the two girls.
"Eryn, do you mind if I have a quick chat with Lucy" Zoe asked and Eryn shrugged before climbing off the sofa and going into the nurse's bay.
"Sweetie, why did you do it?" Zoe asked.
"They were just being mean to me" Lucy said tears slipping down her face.
"Baby, why didn't you say something?" Zoe asked.
"I just didn't. I thought I would just get rid of it myself" Lucy said.
"If you said it was bothering you I could get some cream to try to hid it more" Zoe said and Lucy just shrugged.
"Luc, please don't hid things like that again" Zoe said and Lucy just nodded her head. Zoe was scared that Lucy was just going to keep everything to herself and next time it might have bigger consequences.
"Right baby, come on let's get you home. Guy said I can leave now and I think we all need sleep" Zoe said and Lucy nodded.
They found Eryn and quickly drove home.
"Right sweetie, bed" Zoe said to the pair of them. They all clambered up the stairs and got changed into their jammies.
Zoe was just getting her jammies when there was a knock at the door.
"Come in" Zoe shouted and the door opened. Lucy just stood there.
"What's up baby?" Zoe asked.
"Can I sleep with you" Lucy asked.
"Okay, but just this once" Zoe said and Lucy nodded. They both clambered into bed and quickly cuddled up and drifted off to sleep.
