After The Last Glitter Falls
Chapter 20
Author's Note: I am sorry for my absences from writing, I have moved house and I have no stabile internet yet. Blasted BT who keep putting my install date back due to the wrong kind of ladder. Rolls eyes. I will be in and out on public computers as I can.
Opening night Kurt hadn't shown for the final sound check, he was more then likely still sleeping off the skin full he had drunk over the weekend. Tommy's base playing was mediocre at best, shades and coffee the only thing keeping him going. Adam was distracted missing several of his musical cues. He ended up calling the rehearsals early giving up on getting it right. He had to hope that a bad rehearsal meant a good show! Otherwise this tour would be over before it had even started. He couldn't afford any bad press or a bad show. He gave the band a warning that everything had to go perfectly tonight or else before going to fetch a couple of strong coffees and head back to the bus to look for Kurt.
He found him passed out on the bed wearing only his black boxer shorts. Adam sat on the bed next to him putting the tray of coffee on the floor, so he could gently shake him awake. The boy groaning, rolling over in his sleep. "Come on little Kurtie, rise and shine it's all of five in the evening." He pressed.
"No." Kurt mumbled drowsily.
"Come on baby." He said nudging him again, waving the coffee close enough it could be smelt.
"Yum coffee." The boy mumbled reaching for it.
"Sit up and show me you are awake and it's yours." Adam promised.
Kurt sat up hissing at the bright light level in the room. "Ouch." He complained, grabbing some shades to dull the world down a tad.
"Are you sober?" Adam asked, handing over the hot drink.
"Maybe." Kurt answered pretty unsure yet as he sipped at the wonderful drink. He took a fistful of the offered aspirin, "Do I ask what time or what day it is?"
"It's a few hours before our opening night, you need to get your head together fast you already missed sound check. We can't start the tour with a bad show, we have to be perfect other wise there might as well not be a second night. I've told Tommy to stow his shit, I need you to do the same. Can you do that for me? Keep it together in front of all those people? Whatever Thomas does?" he asked.
Kurt nodded tearfully over the coffee, "I won't let you down Sir."
Adam sighed, "Don't do that, we are a family. We need to start acting like one. Go grab a shower and eat something, I don't want you fainting on stage." He gave his friend a brief hug and left him to get ready.
Kurt showered, dressed and drank more coffee then he had in his whole life. Even so he still felt slightly tipsy by the time he got to the venue. Changing into his costume to put himself through his paces before the long evening. Slamming through each routine in turn trying to ignore the sick feeling in his stomach as he worked.
"Too fast on the third turn." Adam commented as he sprinkle more glitter into his hair gel before it dried. "Go eat something." He insisted, "You look green."
Chinese cartons were everywhere as Kurt came out back, Tommy looked at him and strode off towards the dressing rooms. Sighing Kurt grabbed a box of noodles trying to force them down. Watching Adam follow Thomas, harsh words travelling back up the corridor towards them. Kurt wanted a drink so badly right now to make this evening survivable. Adam would never forgive him if he was drunk on stage. He needed this job, he couldn't fail on the first night. In his pocket a text alert went off. Pulling the phone out he read 'Break a leg tonight, Puck'
'thank you babe." He replied realising that this was the first time he had replied to someone from Lima since he left.
'Burt's watching the live stream, made us show him how to set it up on the big screen. The whole gang is here watching you, so SMILE!' Puck urged.
Wow now that was some kinda pressure on Kurt's hung over head. He rushed to find someones make up to totally redo everything. An amused Adam finding him digging through his make up case. "Can I help you?" he asked with a chuckle.
Kurt blushed, "Sorry I left mine and my dad's watching back home."
"Then we better make my boy look fabulous." Adam promised, coming to help out.
